aribisala0:Do you think it made any significant difference to the outcome of the match. We lost due to sloppy play and juvenile defensive errors. Didn't take our chances as well. Maradona himself was not in his A game either. Watching the Euros as we have seen so far, it is hard to tell who's performances are enhanced and how that has affected any single game. And I suppose that in teams sports athletes have to deploy multiple skillsets to achieve the success that any particular drug can offer. Soccer for instance requires stamina and endurance which goes contrary to speed and reflexes, then you need concentration and dexterity. All these require different classes of performance enhancing medications which quite often are counter active. So soccer players may and do take illegal drugs but the effects on their performances are not significant to their qualities on the pitch in any one game in my opinion. |
That is why I just do not like individual sports. The effects of cheating are just too pronounced. In teams sports enhanced performances by one, two or three participants will always be moderated by average or poor performances by other team mates but one on one contests for individual accolades, medals or titles holds very little excitement for me. |
I feel it was a rushed decision. Should have waited for Juventus or even Real Madrid.... Do not think that club can match his ambitions.. The economics around Serie A clubs is still not back to its heydays and a big coach needs A-list superstars to match. |
Governance is so easy in any nation where leadership is sensible. There is simply no need for this. Government's role in any society is one or organising people around values, period. If a collection of people can do a thing for themselves there is no need for them to be lorded over. If I were to be the President of Nigeria the only files coming across my table will concern Defence, Customs & Immigration and Macro Economics. What is my business with refineries, roads, bridges railways or rice farming. These are things ordinary citizens can handle themselves if resourced and empowered. We are just suffering from a very poorly structured entity called Nigeria. Put those infrastructure under the wheel of justice or the wheel of capitalism and see how they will work and prosper. |
aspabay:Oga, if the word restructuring is such a threat to your psyche, just settle down. It is simply a 'process' by which people sit down and negotiate solutions to intractable or long running problems that have refused to be solved. It draws responsibility closer to the people and gives the people more power to hold those with the responsibility culpable. Clearly there is an infrastructural challenge in Nigeria that the primary authorities cannot or have not handled since independence. Is it a cardinal sin to sit down and say for example, states take these roads and handle them, maintain them and we cede a percentage of Nigeria's earnings to assist you, or increase your allocations, or we give you the whole budget of the Federal Ministry of Works and then shut down that miserable Ministry for good.. Or if you cannot give them additional funds you permit them to raise capital or commercialise these facilities. This highway (and by the way Calabar is the only capital city in Nigeria served by a single lane highway even though it was long ago the defacto capital of the Niger area. Yet, it is serves the whole of the South-South, the South-East and North-Central from the ports and free trade zone, cement coming from Unicem and granite from Akamkpa. Thousands of heavy duty vehicles ply that one lane road every week all the way to Bayelsa, Onitsha, Ebonyi and beyond. If the owners of the road, the Federal government cannot recognise the huge potentials of that viability they should let it go, simple. No sentiment. I do not know the extent of Julius Bergers work since it is a year and a half since I last ventured there but at that time it was abandoned and disputed between government institutions and since I found the sea route more viable I simply fly into Uyo, motor down to Oron and sea cross to Calabar. And here you talk about Representatives as if they have budgets to fix roads or are able to speak up in a parliament that is pro Executive. |
aspabay:Who owns that road, simple. Answer that and stop running around. If the Federal government cannot fix it or be held accountable they should just give it to the state, privatise it or give it to the NDDC or whatever. That is the restructuring ambit of Nigeria's infrastructure we talk about. Let the people know who they should hold accountable, period. Ten people cannot lay claim to a property and you expect it to be in shape. With power comes responsibility. Stop trying to peddle sentiment. |
My simple question to the government on the Igboho house raid. Why the killing. Can the authorities give a press conference and give an account of the encounter and why deadly force had to be used. What was the rules of engagement to a government that should hold the sanctity of life uppermost and plays by the rule of law they claim. For when self help starts and the state and its actors suffer the backlash, they should remember how it all started. Why the killing? Why? |
aspabay:Then why not simply restructure so that state governments are in charge of all highways border to border. Is that so difficult to understand. These roads are not being done because no one is taking responsibility. Can you tell me who is in charge of that road. If by your so called assertion the state government owns it, fine, if the NDDC owns it fine, someone is responsible. All we ask for is clarity by the Constitution of who the people should hold responsible for its poor state or who they will pay taxes and levies to to get it sorted out, period. And then you cannot help but demonstrate the usual sentimental parochialism by "They had the Presidency for 6 years". Can you tell me how many years this government this 'Federal, Federal, Federal government' has spent in power. The government that replaced the bad one of the past.?? |
Devaluation loading....and the impending subsidy removal has not been factored in... Folks, strap in and sit tight. |
It is the price you pay for not seeing the democratic process of protests through to a logical and socially satisfactory conclusion whereby the government throws in the towel and makes real reforms. But in the SARS protests both the police and their daddy government were on the back foot till the citizens out of fear blinked first and the capitulated and I did warn of the dire consequences of not taking the full dose of medications for intractable diseases. Yes, those diseases come back reinforced and more dangerous. The Nigeria police since the flunked SARS protests has been doing its own strategic planning and devilish devising, so Nigerians should brace for a full blow back. We will all learn by force what it takes to build a proper society. There is no free liberty since Jesus died on the cross. Someone has to pay. |
Jonegonu:This is what we consistently say. Investment in infrastructure in other climes is an economic stimulant. It creates jobs, transfers technology and even encourages the youth towards education. When public works are public works indeed government puts resources back into the hands of the citizens individually, SME's and local businesses and host communities. Do you really need multinationals whose shareholders will get the bulk of the dividends sitting somewhere in Europe, Lagos or Abuja without a care in the world for the state or its citizens. I think those in leadership ought to do better. As I have said for many, many years now, development simply cannot come from the 'Julius Berger' model. Look at what decades of dependence on multinationals has done to the government at the centre. |
eldoradoxx:People should seriously ask why the bloodshed. Was it absolutely necessary?? Was there armed resistance....because this thing can get very messy and the very security agents become targets themselves in future when the victims feel the government through its institutions have failed them with extra-judicial killings. They then resort to self help and another vicious cycle of violence is unleashed. We suffer too much in this country from the inability to do what is right. |
The question anyone should ask is: What is all the violence for. Has the man in question been an enemy combatant that orders have to be given to go in heavy and shed blood just to effect an arrest. Why does the Federal Government repeats its mistakes time and time again. That violence begets violence and they are making Nigeria harder to be governed day after day by their thoughtless actions. |
Oga go and sit down. Democracy cannot 'flourish' in an autocracy, a one party state. How is it faring now with a maxim leader no one can challenge. Is Nigeria going in the right direction? At your level of exposure you of all people should know how democracy works. In the France you frequently fly to is this how democracy works. If it was as shambolic as this will you be able to go there for personal challenges? In your quest for an easy ride to your ambitions at the centre you do not mind how many institutions are destroyed, how many lives and livelihoods are sacrificed. Anyone who cannot tie his ambitions to the overall wellbeing of all peoples is certainly not a qualitative leader and these are not good signs oif things to come. That if elected you will not become a sole proprietor, an emperor of sorts and the second act of this horror show we witness today |
louqas:So how will Innoson improve without competition. How will the price of both their offerings to Nigerians become affordable without competition. How will allied companies and small support businesses emerge without creating an industry. Is the extra royalties, taxes, levies potentially accruable to government a sin? Are the potential jobs and spinoff SME:s a crime especially in this hard timeswhen all evnonic stats are tanking. Guess you can't think that far but we understand that is the DNA of the sentimentalist. Those that overwhelmingly empowered this government at the polls and wasted 8 solid years of life. Such a pity. |
Jesus did not set mankind free only to be held captive by boundaries, tribes and tongues, governments or regimes, kings and rulers. Dr Kumuyi and every right thinking person, true patriots know every man stands EQUAL before God, equal in the church of God and equal in his Ministry. It is they that know and practice true patriotism and solidarity. It is they that appreciate the values every person brings to a body that desires to be progressive and that is why they succeed. But a nation that treats its citizens in classes like Nigeria. It is clear in what direction we make consistent progress. |
Wise words from those in touch with God's wisdom. Where in the world has oppression ever prevailed. You can't hod the wind in your hands. The human spirit was vuilt to yearn for liberty and it will happen one way or the other. The present administration will just be heaping up problems for the subsequent ones for it wil only get worse in this trajectory. The personality Nigerians love to chase may be Nnamdi Kanu. But the issues remain the grave marginalisation and black in black apartheid dished out to the people of the South East, the South South and minorites in general. This CAN NEVER BE WASHED AWAY by any threats or intimidation. They never learn from history. |
They cannot help but demonstrate their racism even at levels.you think are worthy of leadership. Swntumwnt will forever command this country until enough suffering has sand blasted it out of decrepit souls. |
Omicron007:I actually retired to my study after the Pogba goal only to learn of the result near midnight. Footy is a crazy sport. |
Earthstorms:Apt. Most people simply donot understand how democracy works or is made to work for the good of society thus the serial sufferings we experience today. The fellow in question has a vote like you and I and a quantum of such thoughts is like mixing a band of armed soldiers, some professionals others toddlers. Such a force is akready self defeatist before any battle is fought. They fail to realise that democracy works well when power bases of equal magnitude hold each other in check and the voter is empowered by his ability to switch power between opposite poles of interest. Such that if one party misbehaves a voter citizen can switch to another and still obtain service/performance. This threat/incentive is what causes thise in power to oerfirm and work fir the good if society. That the fear of losing power enmasse as a party will make the promoters engender good governance. |
Isn't it.time for issue based politics and electioneering instead of personality based. Aren't we tired of suffering... When are we going to accept that elections are not beauty contests. We are filled with so much sentiment, sentiment that cannot teach us what to look out for and what to demand from those who indicate interest in serving. How are we going to get out of the rut we have found ourselves with blatant attitude of ignorance. What are Mr. Osibanjo's views on the most important issues surrounding Nigeria. This will indicate whether anything will change if he happens to be elected. We have seen 8 years of betrayal, failed and denied promises, regression in every index of life and living and all manner of misgovernance, ALL because there was no due diligence in screening before the hype. Now we have started again with hype. |
biomedixexcel:Exactly. Just a demonstration of the kind of impunity that causes wide spread poverty and violence today. It is a pity most citizens out of sentiment cannot relate these issues with their dire experiences. Seems the fire of suffering is yet to tenderise their meat heads. |
Resumed?? So what has caused the delay or suspension all these years?? Yes, corruption. You are busy bargaining and negotiating... |
....And another round of fuel price increases is looming. Was planned for July, but let us see whether they have the balls for that. |
Fiscus105:As the morning shows the day, so the events of today shows the experiences of 2023 and beyond. You donot need marabouts, prophets, seers, fancy graphs or computer generated projections to see what will become of a nation that reinforces failure by rushing into a party that is tipping over. Anyone betting against this nation is almost a banker. |
NwaNimo1:Hahahahaha.... Indeed elections have consequences... |
When we say government has no business in business, apologists, lackeys and lovers of the status quo will be looking for success stories in nations where the people hold their governments by the balls or treat their governments like real servants not lords. Why not commercialise the service and hands off when you know its destiny in your hands will become another NEPA, NITEL NNPC Refineries or even Nigeria Airways. Can't we all see that the DNA of corruption, mismanagement and inefficiency is already at work. Was it not these same people announcing billions in turnover just days ago. Then why can't they get reliable locos, maintain them or make for redundancies. Ask them where all that money is today and they will be sweating... |
On what basis? The said person has not offered anything. Has not proferred any solutions to Nigeria's challenges both immediate and fundamental. Seems to agree fundamentally with a lot going on presently or has not given alternatives. Once again Nigeria is forced to buy a product of unknown quantity. Yet another leap into the dark. Yet another gamble. Let us hear him out first before concluding on his eligibility, suitability or desirability. Before then he is neutral, not better, not worse than others, just a potential candidate, period. |
TripleOh7:You can imagine someone like this in a position of authority or in a position of influence or responsibility. Instead of seeking solutions and being cerebral about challenges their minds just yield to primitive, parochial sentiment that offers nothing positive. |
27Pushing30:. I think this blocked drain thing is beginning to wear thin. When society experiences recurring challenges it adapts and finds solutions. Why can't government research into drainage solutions that resist or accommodate the urban malaise of household rubbish and begin a programe of implementing them starting with the most challenging locations. Why can't we think for once. We have research sections in public works departments. They do nothing to improve their offerings. Just the same thing over and over. |
Insinuation:That is for the people to decide. As to whether they want managers, entrepreneurs or technocrats in authority. In my opinion, I think with the present challenges through the length and breadth of Nigeria, we should all usher in the era of technocrats. It is too clear to anyone who has a mind to think that sentiment has been our bane the deeper we have driven into this democratic experiment, sentiment that has not been able to handle and solve any fundamental challenge as posited by the economic and security decay. It is time we have a set of people in authority who value ideas and have the temperament to attract, promote and support those who think through issues and debate solutions. |
