dalass:This is a better approach and one that should have been adopted all these years. It is the citizens that force change through their advocacy for better governance. If it had that young man will not have needed to end his career this way. That he had to make such a sacrifice shows not only the failings of leadership but the failure of citizens to unite around common values of good governance. |
ProfAmaben:You come across as someone sensible, now turn it on. Nowhere in the world will a military matter come up before civilian courts. The man in question is a military personel, the offence he comitted is against military law and tradition. He offended the military and he is detained in a military facility. Where is your sentiment coming from. Instead of ranting here hit the streets and summon your Legislators and perhaps through the Armed Services Committee they can wade into the specific matter of his prolonged detention and perhaps the wider issue of internal security the young man was agitated about. Apart from that I'm afraid you have very little say about the way the military disciplines its rank and file. He committed a very serious offence no matter how brave or revolutionary he is. And the military will want to send a strong message that it will not tolerate this kind of thing. That is the reality. No one likes the way the war on terror is going and the blame rightly goes to the top but no one should for a minute think that if the military implodes anyone will be safer. In our fundamentalism we must recognise where the personalities end and the institution starts. They are not the same. |
chatinent:Its not a matter of defiance. They courts have no jurisdiction. Its a military to military thing. |
No. This is wrong. He should not be detained indefinitely. Order a court-martual and dish out the appropriate punishment for the offence. Military law is clear on that. Keeping him detained longer than necessary is counter productive and will only stoke the kind of sentiment the military should be keen to avoid at this time of its trials. |
Iamdemola:Horrendous. If he doesn't build a pipeline to evacuate products from his refinery you can be sure those pesky tankers will take over the entire peninsula degrading it to Apapa status.... And once they anchor it will take an Act of God to remove them. |
Departing the century old European traffic management style for the American one. Roundabouts or intersections.... the debate will go on forever. |
Nice one, but hope it has substantial private sector input so it outlasts the present goverment. We know how things work in Nigeria's political circles. |
When we say leave the most important decisions of life, of which marraige is right up there, to the God that created him and her, they say it is not important. When we say lend your ways to godliness and live a life of purpose, fidelty and love, they say all that matters is money, that the end justifies the means... ...well for those unfortunate families the end has come. It is the kids I feel sorry for. |
This is what I have said for a long time. The big difference between real democracy and what we practice here which I call feudalism is that Nigerians are not in charge and control of their affairs. We are ignorant to the fact that democracy is all about WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT. Democracy does not start and end with elections. You donot empower people into office TO DO WHAT THEY WANT, but what you want. And you can only direct if you are competent and intelligent as a citizenry. Political office holders are to be directed. There is nothing they should do on their own. Details matter. I encourage every Nigerian to watch Skynews for just an hour a day to see how real democracy works. Every detail of the life of a citizen of the United Kingdom is vigorously interplayed with goverment through the instrumentality of democracy to such ridiculous detail. Who gave the EFCC the authority to auction those cars... And auction them to who. These are the little details that should matter to a people in abject poverty. These are the details that should be debated and decided by the people not one or two persons who are probably unelected and unaccountable. Many such decisions that have wrecked Nigeria, impoverished her citizens and plunged this country into structural failure have been taken because the people are either too divided, sentimentalised or drenched in the ignorance that they should be slaves to and silently obedient/subservient to some godfather or feudal overlord. These are the cracks through which the gekkos of corruption creep into our dwelling as a nation state. If we are truly the owners of Nigeria and employ these politicians to manage our moribund country and they engage a consultant to recover the assets of our debtors. Isn't it normal that we the owners should at least be informed on what to do about the recovered assets. If my personal lawyer acted in such a manner concerning my business, not only will I sack him and the entire management team but prosecute them as well for misconduct. Unfortunately most Nigerians donot recognise their citizenship rights. To them the drivers and cooks and accountants and lawyers they employ to do their bidding and serve them may do as they please. It doesn't bother them.... ...even their head of security tells them they are the cause of the constant robberies, that the mayhem will end when they are ready to end it...and they better stay awake all night while he sleeps... imagine what an employee says to his employer... |
Brownskinboy:Dunderhead. Is the NSITF not a goverment agency. Is it an NGO or a PLC... You don't have to comment on anything or everything. |
We told them years ago. That without restructuring corruption will never end. Five and a half years later nothing has changed, those charged with executing the fight are themselves in the mess....those attempting to rid the swamp of bugs are themselves down with malaria. Restructure. |
Therebellion:Those are not jobs. |
Can't wait for the fireworks of the next season in the best soccer league in the world when certain managers will be having a first fresh start and opportunities to fashion their teams in their own image. Presently the EPL boasts of 3 of the 4 most decorated club managers in active service in Pep, Jose and Carlo, supported by a cast of some rare gems from continental Europe and outstanding and succeasful young turks in Chelsea and Arsenal. The traditional book of the top four, the law and covenant of the EPL for the past two decades has been torn to shreds and no only are we likely to see a top 6 but next season might see up to eight teams tearing at each other for honours. My only wish is to find clubs like Everton the 2 to 300 million pounds it will take for Carlo to regain his legendary grin once more. The Premiership has never had it this good. |
This happened in Tunisia and the Arab spring exploded ....this happens in Nigeria and watch my people sink in the bog of racism and bigotry...damp squibs everywhere.... just wait for the peons to rush in to back their feudal overlords. |
You pick up someone on the streets and the result is an attack on the institution of marraige and of course the soft underbelly of life, the Scriptures all in 5 minutes of the sorry man's testimony... you must be exceptiotnally brilliant. |
PapaNnamdi:If you don't know anyone personally who has contracted this disease or died from it by now then you know very few people or none of any worth. Be warned this thing is very real and is highly contagious. It has reached the outer perimeter of my relationships, someone I spoke to exactly three weeks ago on the need to get informed about this problem due to the ultra high risk professional job, but alas it has happened. The short term survival rate remains okay, however my concern is the long term prognosis which we are only beginning to learn about with reports out of Italy lately of post recovery organ damage. Its better not to get this virus at all symptoms or not. |
logon599:The weather please. Older folks get the chills a lot easier. Others dress from where they come or where they are heading to after the match. When you see a suit it is likely a post match management meeting is in the offing. |
NDDC is not what they fought for. They fought for resource control which is not money but a structure and framework. They did not fight for roll after roll of goverment red tape. They did not fight for 'allocation', they fought for control. Control means accountability... accountability to the people of the Niger Delta not to some National Assembly 600miles away in Abuja. As long as we operate this way accountability can never be achieved. Once more we see our penchant for calling out individuals for the failure of institutions. Institutions we know simply cannot work in this failed federal setting. Once more the 'Gowonesque' ghost still haunts. Money, money, money. We cannot get a hand on that fact that money is not what brings development but a proper framework. |
Feraz:I cannot see where size matters to the customer in a globalized, interconnected world. It may matter slightly to shareholders but time and again the biggest banks in the world have grown and shrunk. HSBC shrunk its size recently to avoid going under and many, many more global brands over the past two decades. As long as you are the middleman in the world of international commerce, trade and industry you are hyper vulnerable to shocks and you dare not run with baggage. I will want to know what the Kenyan Bank and the banking system and economy is all about. Until then I will be super cautious dealing with Access in the short term as a customer. I have their shares but I can afford to leave them to float. But clients funds and customer accounts will hold for now. |
I wonder if this is exactly what he told Mr. President or insinuated to the C-in-C. As time passes you begin to get a clearer picture about how this goverment is run and the dynamics of our institutions. Honestly its.... just hopeless the way this country is drifting... these fellows are completely at sea and at the verge of losing control. Nigeria is failing gradually. |
etokhana:Don't just shut, prosecute and make them pay hefty fines, if not the State becomes a slum. Nigerians have scant regards for public decency and the environment. It is money, money, money. |
I hope you folks don't expect me to comment about this...on my first day back at work after a wéek of R&R. |
Hmm..this is troubling. There are scant advantages to the customer when banks grow larger but there are serious risks. I must find time to research on the Kenyan bank and take appropriate action quickly if necessary. |
Without restructuring it is impossible to end corruption. This 'allocation' system of economic development simply cannot work no matter who is in charge. Just a simple twist from cash development to investment development will end all this and send the charlatans away. The attraction is the cash. The NDDC should cease to be a receipient but a seeker of development funding, partnering with commercial and multilateral bodies while the goverment guarantees such investment. Secondly, the NDDC should not be invilved in the statutory obligations of other departments of goverment or other tiers of goverment. What is their business with Covid 19 when you have the NCDC and State goverments. Their terms of Reference are too ambiguous and this makes for corruption cracks. They should identify key missions and stick with them under predetermined budgets and timescales. The development of the Niger Delta cannot be an open ended jamboree. Every party has an opening prayer and a vote of thanks. |
GudluckIBB:'In' a wheelchair. You sit 'in' a wheelchair not on it. He doesn't have the stature of an acrobat. |
Share, share, share..the bane of development, the fuel of corruption, the acid that degrades critical thinking. |
Don't do this, don't do that, plenty laws. Good. But a much better way of groomibg to the right is instructing, teaching and leading to achieve positive results. This is more prudent and sustainable. I tell anyone who cares to listen, the Old Testament of the Christian faith contained so many laws and punishments that no one coulf successfully follow until someone xame along and said...'I am the Way, the Truth...' and '....follow me'. That is the much better way to bring children up. While some consider the rod to be a cane to flog, I consider the rod to be the Word of Life. Lead them with the truths about life and you stand a better chance of success. A Whatsapp chat group is not a sin if they are discussing positive, honourable, life building issues and topics. So seed her thoughts in that direction and water it with motivation and self examples, period. I will always say this. Agression, heat, violence is the result of failure somewhere along the line of relationships. For parenting it certainly means lack of leadership/mentoring of the right quality at the right time. |
Jack500:Yes. That is what the Europa Cup is meant for. It was previously known as the Cup Winners Cup for the winners of various national FA Cups, but when the prestige and sponsorship began to ebb in the 90's UEFA relaunched the competition to include the best losers in the Champions League at the latter stages and the 5th, 6th or 3rd, 4th best league placings. So the winners of the FA Cup obtain an automatic entry. In most nation leagues these winners are more than likely to be in Champions League positions so other considerations matter for runner ups and even semi finalists. Take for instance Liverpool, City, Chelsea and Peterborough qualify for the semis then Peterborough will get a ticket.... in England. |
Dansuqi:How long does an aspiring top team give a fledgling player. By the time Pepe is ready the club will have bled out a lot of earnings. If they cannot complement his position they will find another position for him. A winger that cannot keep onside is no use in the fast counter attacks Arsenal is known for. A winger that cannot put in a decent cross is limited. His primary prowess was his ball handling skill but that isn't coming through regularly. |
Angelfrost:They will eventually break through. You simply cannot defend for 45 minutes. No ball holders in the Arsenal midfield. Ceballos is decent but not enough. |
Nicolas Pepe remains an average player. By next season his time will be up. Unfortunately Arsenal will sell at a considerable loss. |
What has been done with the 10 or 12 month wage earned so far amounts to either a way or a waste. It either engenders hope or hopelessness. Success is all about well taken opportunities. |
