dyera:Oga, the factory will be shut down first by.the police until it determined to be an accident. The only exception are plants large enough to have a permanent detachent of law enforcement or goverment supervisory agents on site who will initiate investigations anyway. After being cleared of foul play then an accident investigation team will come in to find the root cause of such an incident from whatever agency supervises the production. Only then can give a permit to restart production if the plant/management has no shortcomings whatsoever. That is what obtaines in civilised societies, not the one you try to describe which only belongs to the category of failed states where anything goes. That is why marquee industrial plants take safety extremely seriously, having whole departments dedicated to keeping staff safe and guarding jealously the number of man hours operated without incident. They know downtime is serious loss in production, resources and revenue. We should be looking toward those standards of value towards life over money. |
CasNova:In certain circumstances, yes. I donot support this amnesty program wholeheartedly because it is not a democratic decision. Such a program should have had serious judicial and more importantly legislative input before implementation. However on principle it is a very important tool for de-escalating the situation that I always term an impossible war to win militarily. There are few other practical options out there within our reach as a nation. |
Pharaoh4rin:I totally agree. He is probably a good person but when you choose to surround yourself with folks that simply cannot make a better country you will fail as well. Deep in him he knows Nigeria cannot work the way it is so his legacy will be limited to 'I tried my best'. And this will place him on the same pedestal as other subordinates to the champions of the status quo such as Alex Ekwueme and to a lesser extent Jonathan Goodluck as all having seen failure and embraced it to remain relevant. |
LadySarah:That is the man that says restructuring is not the problem/concern of Nigeria(ns) but 'the allocation of resources'... But here we are...even that is proving to be a problem... which goes to show he too had caught the 'Gowon' virus of 1973 and to which there appears to be no antidote. |
Lucky them. At least they can say....I wasn't there.... |
Racoon:Na so. Indeed sir, he has...abi, that is what Mr. Governor wants to hear....as a matter of fact he has exceeded all our expectations... |
But the governor should ask himself this question. How does he expect the people to return to their lands and farms and houses when there is a war going on. Yes, not letting them farm is tightening the vicious cycle of poverty but mixing them up with the insurgents in any one locality will make the war which is an assymetric one much harder. A battle field is a battle field, you simply donot farm there. Before the UN outlawed the deployment of mines, this munition will have ensured territories are rendered uninhabitable by all sides, at least containing insurgent attacks and ensuring phyrric victories. But now the military has to seperate oil from water, salt from sugar, civilian from combatant in this war. That is extremely hard. Not saying there might be no saboteurs within but where civilians are in too close a contact with military forces at the front lines, troop movements, deployments, weapons intel, training and tactics are all in full view to all and you don't need great sleuth to counter these. Mr Zulum, your state is like a battlefield in the bedroom. If Boko Haram wants to take you out all they need is long range artillery or medium range rocket batteries which they are well capable of acquiring and they will level goverment house in an instant. They are not after you. You were just a target of opportunity that fateful day. But you have your primary role in winning hearts and minds to make the military's job much easier. Just do that and stop sniping at the military. Their job is next to impossible and I have said it many, many times, this insurgency ultimately cannot be won by force of arms alone. It is fundamentalist driven and needs to be 'moderately' untangled. Hearts and minds is the key. |
Nigerians are so cowardly. Can you imagine this: 'Protesting parents donot want to disclose their names 'because of attendant consequences'.... what consequences for heavens sake. That a people cannot protest against what they cannot live with or afford.... in a democracy.... Can we see the consequences of feudal rule. When leadership is worshipped instead of held to account. When personalities are exalted above institutions which serve the citizenry. When the citizens are not feared by those they put into office to superintend over their affairs for their common good, then democracy is as good as dead. There is really no point voting. We might as well be led by an Emir, Oba or Eze. This is not to say the requirement to pay or the amount requested is questionable but for people to protest with 'face masks' (no pun intended) is just ridiculous. Even the most rancid of goverments will expect a push back. |
There is no story here. They are his kids, his seed. Your sister did not impregnate herself so he has every right to direct their affairs as their father until such a time they are adults. An exception is if a competent court finds him an unfit parent for various reasons, then custody battles begin. Your sister was supposed to have seperated from you folks in order to get married so the Holy Books say. Visitations and custody of relations in marraige is at the pleasure of the married couple, and not an obligation. Now if the man in question is being difficult you share the responsibility as well for not promoting better relations while your sister was alive or alternately influencing her not to marry the said 'nasty' man but from your tone, qualifying his character and snapping about his 'money' seems you folks just donot like him.... a mistake a lot of folks make to their loss. Always be at peace with the spouses of your relations. When a man or woman marries their spiritual DNA changes. It is half of yours and half of the new partner. |
The poor will always be victims of society and when you mix in a bit of ignorance you obtain a volatile cocktail of tragedy. The truth is, in the present day Nigeria twelve year olds should not be on the streets unshepherded. To send them on errands is quite frankly playing Russian roulette. Times have changed. I got the famous 'chopper bicycle' for my 10th birthday and during holidays I would ride from (for those who know/knew the city of Kano well) Bompai where we lived all the way to Malam Aminu Kano airport to plane spot from the gallery. Other times I would ride as far as Bayero University soend all day and return late afternoon without any hint whatsoever of danger and without mobike phones and contact. These days even as an adult you think carefully where you go and plan extensively about what and who you are likely to meet. Times have changed. In the decades since we have created a society of vice and violence of which once again, the poor and ignorant will easiky fall victim. Please, donot send your twelve year olds out unsupervised no matter how street smart you think they are. It is not worth the potential pain. |
Simplyleo:C'mon be reasonable. There is no elevated structure, absolutely none more than a storey that will not cost more than 5 million naira, even if is a small dwelling. Once there is a staircase and a suspended floor involved you are on your way to multi millions. Except of course you want to give midnight work to rescue agencies. And this is a school building so the specs as with all public buildings is higher. |
Skibani:They rubber stamped it when they were sleep walking to Aso Rock. Now the Chinese cock is crowing, good morning Nigeria. |
That is the trampling on our independence, rights and sovereignty we are talking about. The Minister is alluding to the fact that the Chinese goverment does not want its activities and business interests scrutinised by the Legislature on behalf of the people. When Communism meets Feudal rule the baby they sire will surely be named Dictatorship. Nigerian citizens are always apt to criticise western creditors particularly the World Bank and the IMF for their strict loan conditions which borders on good governance and accountability which our leaders hate in favour of Chinese credit which flows easily, too quickly in my opinion and is apparently rife with sleaze. The chickens are home to roost now. We will see there is no free lunch in the world of International Finances. The first casualty is the National Assembly....sovereignty going...going....going... |
Decontaminate schools ? Have the schools not been empty all this while or have they been used as isolation centres. They should look at facts and deploy scarce resources effectively. Before the nationwide lockdown I cannot recall any school having an infection issue and surely four months later a virus that cannot survive surfaces for longer than 3 days will have long died off... ...except if these facilities have been used for other activities. |
awoluyi:What has this got to do with the PDP. They played badly and you substituted them since the 2015th minute and brought in the APC only to go down to defeat by the 2020th minute. It shows one of two things. Either the substitution was misinformed or the gaffer is piss poor. But once you take a decision you live by it. Nigerians have no one else to blame but themselves. They simply donot know how to train a team, how to deploy the player politicians effectively and how to deftly read a match objectively and without emotional attachment. |

Hmm...symptoms of BSE aka 'Mad Cow Disease'. Anyone hoping to feast on that cow had better count his teeth with his tongue and thoroughly cook the flesh..and avoid the more exotic parts like the brain or risk contracting CJD leading ultimately to dementia and death. There are a lot of infirmities killing Nigerians just that we are not advanced enough to have autopsies performed on a regular and large scale and our health institutions hardly do any research. |
Goddyj:Qualify this your best as being mass market items please. For audio systems it has been decades since Sony lost the quality war and joined the rat race of volumetrics. Their African and Mid-East range of products are nowhere near as clean as in the heyday battles with Panasonic, Bose and Pioneer. They now struggle for scraps with my all time junk makers, Sharp. |
angelfallz:What I was asking ? The technology of plasmas had remained too fragile and a number of issues had remained untamed for two decades. |
Are plasmas still in production ? Why not buy LED's. They are half the trouble at half the price cos everyone makes them these days. |
sulaak:What is the present goverment based on. |
Officialgarri:The post is on Abia State not Kaduna. There is no skirting the fact that governance there is pretty poor, downright mediocre. The people should wake up and start taking interest in politics and holding those who represent them in this structure to account. This is 21 years of democracy, near a quarter of a good man's lifetime, if no progress can be achieved in that timeframe then something is fundamentally wrong with the way the people choose to live. |
joyandfaith:Hmmm...look at the space between the buildings...no air... |
VirginFinder:Where did the Bible recommend spanking pls quote. |
MyGODdidit:Yes, violence is always associated with criminality. It is the resort of the weak willled and unintelligent. In families it applies when quality parenting is not administered early, constantly and intelligently. When parents don't know what to say or do with children they fall into that trap. It is an absolute no, no for me. No child is born recalcitrant. It is the environment you the parent puts the child in that wil determine if the lion becomes a lamb or the lamb becomes a lion. It is your creation, your success or failure what your child is or becomes. God gives you the clay. Mould it while it is wet and malleable or use a hammer, chisel and brute force when it dries out....start early, start smart. Be ready. Donot have them if you can't or won't. It is serious responsibility. |
Can any independent agency verify all these claims and how come the public is just getting to know about this several years after it all started. What has prompted the revelations. |
A short story that describes the tragedy of the present political situation viz the ignorance of those who fashioned the weakness of the Nigerian state. I have a friend, a cool bachelor then who was always on the road and so brought in his cousin to live in. I happened to notice a few things about this young man very quickly and his penchant for living a rough life having seen him a couple of times with friends in very compromising positions with soft controlled substances. I told my friend about this and he promised to get a guard dog for backup when he was out of town. I told him to get a lion instead. He thought I was kidding. The long and short of the tale is that from smoking joints round the corner with a couple of his friends, the cousin became a distributor in the neighbourhood with dozens of guys moving in and out of the compound freely, some even having the audacity to vent in his living room. Well I told him it was a matter of time before his house will be raided. But what about the guard dog.... well it had got so used to all of them, he was certain they even rolled a joint for the dog as well. Lesson here. If you want to succeed at an ultra hard task you must pull out all the stops and and literally endanger yourself with a lion for protection, then find out a way not to be eaten. If this goverment understood how democracy works it will not have set out early in desperation to destroy political opposition. They are the only force in Nigeria, sanctioned by the ethos of democracy to checkmate the goverment itself. It will have been tough and torrid for the ruling party initially but Mr Buhari will be sure to get results off their advocacy and beligerence. Because the simple truth is that in a democracy if the goverment does not fear anything it is not likely to succeed fundamentally. If it sits pretty it is likely to be complacent.... and complacency leads to failure. So the goverment can shut down Sahara, lock up its journalists or drag them to the courts but you simply cannot do that to an institution in political opposition. This has been the mistake we have made since 2015 because of sentiment. This goverment has no lion to guard its agenda, its promises, its manifesto so the dogs it employs are busy smoking pot. |
lexy2014:He has started to 'wail' tactically. He is presently in neutral gear. By 2022 he will be screaming like the engine of an Aston Martin DBS in full throttle.... we told them so....the corruption war is lost...the czar is in chains...and the barbarians are banging the city gates....it is all over. |
Then why not just sign a BOT contract, simple. Personally I will prefer that because it will at least guarantee that the services run, no corruption stories will emerge and we will not be mortgaging other assets to offset the loans. |
What is our business with that. Have we not been screaming that other ports along our coast be put in operation for many, many years now but greed and shortsightedness is our daily manna. Is there any developed or development seeking country that operates through just one seaport or port location ? We are enjoying the fruits of our strategic vulnerability. To cripple Nigeria you only have to sabotage 5 out of the over 900 kilometres of coastline and the country will be on be knees. Thank goodness we donot have international military conflicts. In times past during military rule it could be understood that the fewer the gateways the easier it will be for the military to control the nation but 21 years into democracy, what is our excuse for this chicane, what is the reason for strangulating our economy if not greed. No pity here. We are the authors of our misfortune. May the gridlock continue. Nonsense. |
Mateen1000:Midfielder the report said. We don't know whether he is an AM or DM or what his tactical position is in the scheme of the gaffer's plans. But Rhor should look him up. The midfield remains our weakest and most unstable link since Jay and Oliseh left the building. |
