omenka:Should there be an explanation for this terrible, evil, reprehensible act. Should there be anyone with blood running through his veins that will be asking why ?... except those that can communicate with animals... There as some things one should be so ashamed about that one can only recoil in silence....Imagine, a person you call your wife... |
bigfish3k:Told them so. What they hid their heads in the sands from is being forced on them. Very soon it will be too late to get this country back on an even keel. Very soon even restructuring by round table negotiations will become impossible when there are no longer any cards on the table to play with... when there is no longer anything to talk about....when the king is captured and the mives on the chessboard is fully checkmated. When I say Nigerians are too dull, too ignorant to cultivate a better country, time has proven right. I.just hope the end game for southerners is not to abandon their homelands go into exile en masse. That once utterly, ridiculous thought is gradually becoming a distinct, distant possibility. |
Indeed the owners, the landlords of Nigeria have spoken. They boldly declare what they intend to do with their property while the tenants and agents cannot come out likewise but fearfully speak through third party innuendos and from the security of veils, curtains and face masks. When we say restructure to put Mamman Daura's position in proper context you say no. Let me see how else equity is going to be instituted in Nigeria. |
It is now the victims or should I say prey will see the need for independent, apolitical, functional and upright institutions not personalised by any political or goverment agent. It is now they and their legal representatives wish institutions worked for all. But and a big, big but...when they were in the drivers seat, when they were the apex predators they did the exact opposite. They acted as Lord of the Manor, ran such instititions as their fiefdoms and disregarded best practices and looked down on the law. Yet people, their fans will claim they are brilliant administrators and skilled operators. Yet they suffer the black man's inherent malaise, the lack of basic foresight despite our penchant for traditional sayings of wisdom one of which speaks about those that help you up the ladder of life... Same story for those in the Judiciary, the Legislature and even the Executive. Atiku the other day was lamenting about the bad treatment in the hands of an INEC, an institution he had 8 years of opportunity to reform as the number two citizen. Same ol, same ol. Nigerians never learn. They never see the wider game, always chasing the players, always elevating individualism above collective progress aka institutionalism. Always supporting short term politicking at the expense of solid, enduring structures of developement. That is why it is so easy to forge rings on their noses and lead them into slavery with chains of feudal oppression. |
Tonimax:Circus acts are not necessarily good sportsmen. There are four cardinal pilkars to success. Skill is only one of them. One resides in your head and the orher in your heart.... the last is just pure unadultrated effort. |
When my younger brother started out in banking that was one of his first duties, CBN runs....in Portharcourt... in the Odili days of militancy.... and occasionally all the way to Uyo....just didn't know how he lived such a treacherous life....and progressed unscathed. In parts of Nigeria till today your life expectancy is akin to a Marine in South Vietnam in 1968 or a U-Boat sailor in 1943. |
Agugbadin:We have talked about this several times before past elections that a structure that throws up Hobson's choice time and again needs changing. Every time we are presented a choice between bad and worse. Every time they (the owners of Nigeria) lend their support to individuals that are defective, compromised and thus subjects of blackmail so they can have a jetty to dock their canoes of feudal rule. They will prop him up and if thet support him he will win and Nigeria will continue down the path of ignominy. |
UdechiHD:Has his conviction been overturned because a felon cannot contest for the highest office in the land. |
Na to go buy shares of Boeing and General Dynamics. |
fergie001:Without fear or favour...are you joking ? The kind of structure that will put the transportation needs of the Judiciary at the mercy of the Executive is inherently evil. These are the kind of fundamental things enlightened citizens particularly the youth should be fighting day and night for. These are the kinds of issues standing firmly in the way of national development. How can that institution administer impartial justice with an official bribe. How can they checkmate the Executive.... how can you and I obtain justice against the State when they trample upon our rights to anything or eveything. It is we who should be paying them. We ordered for this democracy from the restaurant of life and we should pay the bills in accordance with how and what we expect to be served. When we cry out that goverment has too much power, know this, our comrades in Hongkong, America, Brazil, Venezuela, Iraq and many other countries fight for what they want. |
We told them in 2014 rhat nothing will fundamentally change about Nigeria without restructuring. They said no. That the only problem was corruption. Even the learned Vice said the problem was about the 'allocation' of resources not restructuring. Well, five and a half years later the corruption fire rages on in greater intensity fueled by the irresponsibility of the 'allocation doctrine'. I will always say this. If you keep on treating malaria one day your liver will shut down. A reasonable man will rather chase mosquitos from his habitation.... a wise man will go beyond that and look towards fundamentally changing his habitation... aka draining the swamps and clearing the bushes. If we donot restructuring this country will never experience a better tomorrow. Every negativity we experience as a citizenry will just get worse and worse. |
See them all wishing. But at the first sign of reality is back to the comfort of our pets called ethnicity, bigotry and religious intolerance that scuttles everything. |
This is private sector on display, not even public works.Together with Elon Musk sending astronauts to space, and all other great achievements other progressive nations empower their people to do. |
helinues:Address the topic. |
Farki:And how do you know his whereabouts since 1972 and whether background checks have been done on him. Do you work for the DSS, NIA or DMI. If you do not just shut it and sit down. If he is not known to goverment how will he even be nominated....okay the President went abroad, flew over the heads of non protesting Jigawans and brought in a man from Niger Republic on their behalf.... by someone who clams to 'have sense'.... duh. |
He is free to contest if he so wishes. He will definitely be a top candidate and a potentially successful President if he is envisioned to do what is right and needy. However, to 'beg' him to contest is blatantly ignorant and stupendously arrogant. That is akin to making him a king.... an affirmation of the feudal nature of so called democracy in Nigeria and especially western Nigeria politicking. You don't beg for a driver from the pool of applicants. As a matter of fact the more options you have the more 'shakara' you air. If Mr. Tinubu wants the Presidency he should work for it hard and long. We citizens must not cheapen our franchise and sell off the only power we have to make our lives better going forward. Beg ?.... God forbid. Even God doesn't ask you to beg Him for anything. |
Nemere2020:Yet when Nigerian emigrants to nations abroad achieve great things in politics, goverment, the academia, the military and law enforcement, sports, the arts and entertainment under those alien flags we go haw, haw, haw before settling down in the mud bath of bigotry and ethnic supremacy. If a Nigerian emigrated to the US in 1972 and is now an ambassador to Nigeria won't we be happily gyrating in the mire... Nonsenaical reasoning. Sahara has lost its way in the desert on this one. Just give them a can of CoolAid. |
When publishing your wage as a public servant becomes a security issue then the wage is tantamount to a heist. Only criminals are afraid. That is why legitimate top earners won't bat an eyelid to such disclosures and no one goes after them. You guys know you are guilty as charged. |
Bombolistic:Exactly. It is the institutional elements that are important. It is between the APC and the PDP and how they interplay to locomote democracy and national development that matters. Some say both parties share the same failings... hello, that is how democracy works. There is no political party on earth that is beloved for all time simply because democracy knows the players are human and fallible. What democracy does is to engage a power flux so that the performance of one is boosted by the threat of the other to take power. When one piston is down and drawing fuel and air the other having exploded is venting waste gasses and driving forward. Democracy knows that performance is hard so principles to drive national development can only be maintained for a short period before the citizenry begin to demand for a bettter goverment. But our ignorant citizens donot know all these and donot know how to make democracy work in their favour. They either want autocracy, monarchy or total anarchy because of factory fitted prejudices along the familiar lines of religion and ethnicity. |
Mindlog:That is why you donot chase politicians but watch institutions. Democracy is not about politicians but about the people. The wise look out for the impact of politics on governance and by extension the welfare of the people. Politicians are mere drivers. Who gives attention to the bus driver or pilot that takes you to that dream vacation spot. I cannot remember the name of any single Uber driver that took me around Lagos my last domestic vacation a year plus ago. Can only faintly remember the experiences, good and not so good. I should not be bothered about who Dogara is or what he ia doing and will only remember faintly what he did in the last Legislature. He is not in power so it does not matter. |
Even the Bible doesn't give a clear cut answer because it is such a complex scenario, one size just doesn't fit all. |
SenecaTheYonger:I am not sure of the design but if doesn't have a silt flush it could mean the efficiency of the dam maybe compromised. But it could also be that the turbines are whacked which is not an easy thing to replace at all and I mean not easy at all. |
noble71:Oga. All massive transnational rivers have the challenge of ownership or resource control. And it is only by treaties the resources of the river can be managed without crises. When a dam is built it has significant effects downstream. Remember we are downstream of about half a dozen countries (if I'm not mistaken) that own the Niger. One, it reduces the volume of water available for, for instance power generation. Two it reduces the quality of water available with regards to aquaculture (fishes cannot swin through dams) and farming (as the rich nutrients of natural river flows can be hijacked by irrigation or held back by the dam. If every nation along the path of the Niger from the Futa Jallon to the border of Nigeria towed our path and built significant dams you can imagine the terrible effect it will have on not only the energy sector but on agriculture, fishery and the environment. That is what we are paying for by giving them electricity. The treaty compensates them or officially bribes them so as not to build their own Kainji dams. The same problem Egypt had with the Sudan decades ago concerning the River Nile and is having right now with regards to Ethiopia. Ethiopia is determined to build their own dam and Egypt is beligerent. They know if the dam is built their agricultural industry will almost certainly collapse. The Benue has no such problems as the source of water comes from the Camerounian highlands, almost impossible to dam such that once in a while they even dump excess water on us causing major flooding in Benue and Cross-River states every other year. |
Thank goodness not on that road today. They better clear it up in the next three days or I will be forced to detour through Makurdi/keffi which is hideous. |
This is not a case of stealing or theft but of robbery so the OP should adjust the header accordingly. Theft or 'a steal' will involve clandestine action of concealment or subterfuge. In a store/shop that will usually take the form of a shoplift in broad daylight or a heist at odd hours. The key to robbery on the other hand is coercion or the threat of force/violence which requires active, open, brazen action as seen in the vid. The penalties according to the law are poles apart. But why don't people just install panic alarms with push buttons under the counter. At the very least it will give the shop owner a split second to take cover or take action and may further cause lily-livered intruders to flee. |
I am certain in the decades before 1619 this is precisely how Africans bickered about who had the biggest yam farm, the heaviest pestle and and the shiniest cowries before the European sneaked upon them and placed them all in handcuffs and leg shackles, leading them off into slavery. Today instead of debating their development, advancement, social cohesion and universal prosperity they are busy bickering about wristwatches and automobiles while wallowing in abject poverty and whike the Chinese build the roads and the railways to be used in ferrying them into another round of slavery. If you are above the age of ten and are here to join in this show of shame I am just sorry for you, this country and your future if you have any. Just visit forums of other nationals and see what they discourse around the polity.... shameful. |
Fresh signs of a feudal state. All the king's horses and all the king's men falling over themselves to please HRH. We have made an institution out of a politician so we have to live with the consequences of comatosed structures and unworkable systems. The people of Edo will decide their future for the next four years. You will expect such weighty opportunity will meet with the solid preparatjon of an enlightened citizenry in extracting iron clad plans, programs and purposes from those that offer themselves supposedly to serve. No. They are not interested in that but in the pursuit of individuals who are not even contesting and have in reality only but an equal stake with anyone of them in the process of setting up governance. Only such ignorance and irresponsibility can explain how the black man and their forefathers were led off in chains without all out warfare to cultivate sugar and bananas in the West Indies and cotton in the Americas all those years ago. The slavery continues till this day. Master and servant, princes and peons. |
Olalan:That is why he should not have brought her corpse back home. Who does that. He should have moved straight from the hospital to the station or let the hospital make the call. Every hospital has a line to the police and the established ones know the procedure and if the vic was registered there previously can issue a death certificate that will state the likely cause. If a health centre chases you away with a deceased or near death person it must mean they too have skeletons of quackery or illegality. |
We just look and pass. We don't comment anymore. Nothing new to say except the fact that even the most hardcore fanatic of this regime will not have imagined in a million years that in 2020 almost everyone in high goverment office is a thief.... But in 2014/15 I did say that there was not a single Minister or Military Administrator in Mr. Buhari's 83 to 85 goverment that did not become a billionaire out of goverment. And they were practically almost all serving military men as at then. If he could not do it in 1983 with Supreme authority and a suspended Constitution you donot expect him.to do it today with multi-layered political power blocs. I have told you folks and for the umpteenth time. Only restructuring can save Nigeria. |
That is our society. From N-powerees on goverment's neck to small time felons upgrading to deadly robbers everyone is tangled in the money craze. Everyone's excuse, 'I am poor I wanna be rich...' Not, I am poor but these are my skills, I am poor but this is what I can make, what I can do....then your effort, skill or risk appetite will decide whether or when you become rich. No, they want the top of the tree here and now... that is Nigeria. No thanks to those who should lead by example and inspire the youth by a history of vision, skill, effort, diligence, fortitude and a spirit of excellence. |
That is why I keep on repeating that institutions are more important than individuals. Follow individual politicians at your peril anywhere in the world. They are all like like, multifaceted, two timing 'hypo-liars'. What the citizens get to gain from the system they interplay with is the fallout from their mutually assured combustion. You rise where they step on each other. Where there is dynamism at least the perform for one season. Where there is only godfatherism you are totally at their mercy. I was telling someone this in relation to the local economy in Cross River state and the ultra slow pace of development going on there. That it lends itself to an almost comatosed polity. That there is barely any competition to drive any sort of real performance. You can imagine if Edo state was under some monarchial rule by Mr. Igbinedion till now. The state will have long been written off as scrap. We always ought to see the bigger picture and not be caught up in sentiment. |
youngestgrad:But they surely can't sell him for 80 million euros next season. Why spoil a good business plan....paying off so handsomely. I think its just a stop gap. They will have their real cash cow before the next season starts. |
