arshavineering:If they retain their gaffer they are unlikely to. The man is a wet sponge. As overly cautious as the banker he truly is. |
If we count out Victor Moses as an international, could he be our most prestigious Eagle... certainly the most expensive ever and likely to be the highest paid Nigerian athlete ever. Debate. |
Lille really cashing out on talent spotting. 140 million within 2 seasons for a couple of Africans. Someone in the back office is doing a fantastic job.... PS ...then they sign a Turkish pensioner to replace him... perhaps till their hawkeye returns from his summer holidays. |
sigiyaya:That is your conscience speaking, obey, not fight it. He speaks a lot of truths. |
Tough questions... hard answers. This thing needs lots of thought and debate. Goverment should be holding lots of townhalls. While some frown at this for obvious reasons I will tell us all this wisdom.... Not only are the citizens watching this with keen interest, insurgents will as well, those who will have been fed with deep propaganda that it was all a one way street and terminal making for desperation in a fatalistic manner. Perhaps (and a big one at that) if they perceived they had a second chance at life they would think a lot more about their actions and even consider changing their lives. For when an animal is cornered it will fight. When a crack appears it will most likely flee.... I don't know. However one thing I am certain about is that the leaders of these organisations will hold them together with not only the carrot but a very big stick of falsehood, intimidation and foreclosure. I will not be surprised if hundreds have been executed for attempts to desert. It will not be wise not to have a channel, a door of light open to them. BUT whom am I to suggest to those in unimaginable pain and loss. That is why it is only goverment that can do this and through townhalls and meetings with communities and families in total empathy, love and kindness. There will be some who will have sons and daughters who like the prodigal son have been lost but now are found. Enough of hate and violence...let peace reign and love shine through.... but whom am I. |
Sibrah:Hmm....30,000 for....10 million people, 20 million a month on a long term basis is not a well thought out scheme. If you cannot get the participants making stuff, serving stuff, offering stuff in good time the entire nation will go under financially. If only 400k bens are demanding two thirds of a trillion I think I better follow the escapees and flee the country. See eh. When business is bad (like the Nigerian economy faces now with low oil prices) and your account is tanking your driver becomes your security man and you give him coffee black to keep him on the road. When it becomes worse he will also become your cook even if you spend hours in the lavatory. The only options available for Nigeria is to pay for the widest available service providers. If you are sponsoring youth to become enterpreneurs you must direct them towards saving you money else where while generating for the economy as well, two jobs. You just cannot afford to let them do as they please, go and come as they like. You will go bankrupt. |
I think the summary of it all is that it was not thought through diligently. It was rushed and filled with a lot of assumptions. The people and leaders are definitely not on the same page and this goes to show the need for a people centric democratic experience. |
MalaikaEH:If you truly, truly used the money for self development how then can you be in a precarious situation. At least you should have left life support to the emergency ward status which is better. But I understand without proper vision and guidance this will happen. If my daddy always gave me a pouch of cash for school fees right from kindergarten as his only obligation towards my education I certainly will not have seen the four walls of any school. |
Sibrah:Then why are they on the streets asking for more money and after that more and more and more. Who is checking what this money is producing. Are you? That is nothing but a goverment gamble. You won't raise your children that way. Without requiring a whole new goverment bureaucratic structure to guide N-power 'students' along the lines of success with its attendant corruption how else is this thing going to work. I repeat, the only way to make this thing work is first. Couple the vision to develop the beneficiaries with a solid plan to develop the country so that even future funding can be diversified to donor agencies and the private sector. Secondly, reward results not desires. Success is infectious so is failure. One real success story will encourage millions of other Nigerians to venture, just one story of folks getting resources for next to nothing will attract the worst of Nigerians into the system. And the only way to guarantee success is to pay only for productivity. Then he who wishes will step up. That is why I said their model of your so called long term inveatment is wrong. Did they tell them that they will be paid salaries for years until they find their feet. Even a child knows that is not sustainable. Simply put, if you want to ROI in 24 months you simoly cannot call people from their beds. For goodness sake there are 30, 40 million unemployed. Add half a million graduates each year. You need a conveyor belt of productivity to handle that. You cannot wait for anyone to develop the intellect or will to make it. N-power is not a school of life. |
SenecaTheYonger:No one should give anyone any silly 600,000. For what. FOR WHAT TELL ME. What allocation could not do for you grant will never do. What allocation could not do for states, bailout did not. It is a vicious cycle of poverty they are gripped in. The mentality to get out of it is not there simply because there is no structured demand to tickle their responsibility. |
If I were a decision maker in goverment I will bring that national economic council round a table, a council expanded to include the dozen key, apex industrialists and tell them, look guys... We have given you guys so much support in tarrifs, tax breaks, controlled exchange rates, etc., now we have 400,000 fledgling, micro businesses out there that need your patronage to anchor. WHAT IS IT YOU IMPORT NOW AT HUGE COST TO OUR EXTERNAL RESERVES THAT CAN BE PRODUCED IN NIGERIA. That will form the basis of what goverment will mandate N-Power to publish in its prospectus and you will be sure this will drive participants along the lines of industrialization. This is how nations drive and change the social narrative of their citizens away from 'shop, shop, shop everywhere' as in Nigeria to factories, factories, factories everywhere just as in China. Create an outlet by incentifying productivity at the top and bottom ends of the spectrum. |
If goverment had simply stated that at the end of the scheme they will conduct something like a trade fair where goods and services developed along set criteria of national needs will be displayed and vetted by key private sector players these folks will be busy today. But when you just throw out money without direction, plans, targets, expectations you get nothing. N-power should be an important component of a greater national development strategy to either create a small businesses regime which will service bigger, leading, key industry and soak up the huge number of unemployed youth or a deliberate strategy to recreate the anhiliated middle class. But what it is now, no one knows for it seems to have only created a horde of sophisticated beggars and dependants. Poor strategy, poor vision. |
Yankee101:That is what we said then and keep on saying now. It is our subculture of indolence that gave rise to the 'allocation mentality' operating in our national financial structure that has found its way into the social safety nets assembled by this goverment. While they thought it will create jobs but alas as we have operated for almost sixty years it has created only dependency, and aggravated a viscious cycle of poverty because as we speak 'mouths have been widened'. I bet you. Ask anyone of them what they have done with all the resources and they will give you a typical 'Nigerianesque' reply. 'I used it to SOLVE my problems', none of which is the lack of productivity. That is why I have always said and in agreement with Lamido Sanusi that a structure that always puts money ahead of productivity, a contracting economy or contractors paradise, a rent seeking economy can never lead to development. The real grassroots of fundamental development is TO REWARD PRODUCTIVITY NOT SEEK TO BUY PRODUCTIVITY. If States are to develop then so called allocations should only be made to productivity. If N-Power is to work then the goverment should only be paying FOR WHAT HAS BEEN DONE. Today you have N-power, tomorrow the Keyamo jobs, same error. Why can't anyone in goverment connect the dots and seek a structure where goverment's deficit in infrastructure, power, education, health be met with the skills these beneficiaries venture into and use the funds to be allocated to them as payment for deliverables in these fields. Practically speaking. Why can't they be saddled with the task for instance of developing test kits, sanitary consumables, contact tracing, medical supplies in this Covid 19 battle. Why can't they be led towards channels where goverment presently expends collosal amounts of money it doesn't have to provide materials and services it needs. Why should goverment spend its scarce resources on my project to learn to make biscuits when it is taking loans to 'contract' another Nigerian to buy face masks from China. We need our social naira to go to our pressing social NEEDS then we are sure it is money well spent. Only that will guarantee productivity and prevent a culture of irresponsible dependency. You are signing SUKUK for roads while you have teams of protesters outside your gates....what kind of leaders do we have in Nigeria for goodness sake. No vision at all. |
bigfish3k:If one is a keen reader of the Bible, you will come to realise throughout scripture how God deals with the haughty. God just dislikes that kind of thing. When you assume a position of power it comes with so much responsibility and trust that you are expected in that position to have empathy for those you serve particularly those without, so humility should be your cloak and song. Indeed God resists the proud. From Pharoah to Herod to Hitler to Idi Amin the list is unending. Once your pronounce your boast you are gone quite literaly. So as a leader you can oppress all you like, God may not do anything until His people cry out to Him, but once you open your mouth and boast about it, He will set in motion His acts unilaterally. |
....enlarged heart...hmm...prolonged uncontrolled hypertension....perhaps... |
C'mon tell daddy to get electrical aids for washing and cleaning to lighten the load. Smart changeovers for the power set are cheap thses days. Remember there are no prizes in heaven and on earth for house chores neither can you put them in your resume for any job other than in the entertainment industry. |
EdiskyHarry:Let go how? A person is dead. How do you let that go. At best its vehicular manslaughter and that is culpable. And it is not just the parents that are invoived so it goes beyond emotions. The Airforce has lost massively too. Do you know how much it costs to train and equip a combat pilot. That is millions down the drain and a massive PR blow. You don't just bury that. |
illicit:Lazy Nigerians...waiting for nature and millions of years to do what you can achieve within a few months or a couple of years of sustained social advocacy and political pressure. Better exchange your mediocre likes for high quality ones from forums across dynamic, advancing democracies in other climes. They will surely have a big laugh at your expense before dialing emergency services. Nigerians with this attitude will get nothing out of this democracy in a thousand years. Tectonic structural changes will require earth shifting socio-political struggles. |
OgbeniSamm:Though the potential is there but right now he's average, nothing special. |
The details. I always say this. The difference between a democracy that works and develops a nation and one that doesn't work and buries a nation is the fine print. In saner climes before he speaks the citizens will already be abrest with the details. If we either donot care how things work and how much they actually cost or are too ignorant to ask the right questions how so the citizens ever hope to defeat corruption. |
Thetruthalways:What nonsense are you saying. Mister. Only 2 things put Mr. Buhari in Aso Rock. 2 things alone. 2 things. The perception, his promise and the propaganda on corruption and the war he will fight to rid Nigeria of it. And secondly, his promise to lead from the front in defeating Boko Haram and the propaganda around his military background. So what are you saying. That he should not be called out after all this. Are these folks not his apointees. Were they elected into NDDC or NCDC or other agencies. Did he not vett them before appointment, did he not charge them to steer clear of corruption. Will he not have heard they are all theives and now he has heard why are they not all sacked. A man who does not tolerate corruption will not wait for another arm of goverment to investigate. He will instigate his own and at the slightest smell of filth he will sack them all instantly and hand them over to the police. They are his appointees and cannot sue him for that. But this President will not. Very few have been sacked, some openly corrupt have been recalled, many have been left to fester and foster their rot. What sort of nonsense corruption fight is that. That is no fight, but a total capitulation. Now you shift blame to others. So why was GEJ voted out. Tell me. If you can blame GEJ for the corruption in the past you SHOULD blame PMB for the corruption we see today. QED. |
Just like the NDDC in the Delta doing Covid stuff which is xompketely not their business while there is the NCDC allocated billions, their counterparts in the north east are procuring military hardware ... what is their business with that when the military has been given a billion dollars, not properly appropriated and till date not accounted for. Is this not goverment in full blown multifaceted corruption, in the duplication of services, the 'round tripping' of resources. They steal so much other agencies have to step in to perform the same functions and provide the same resources. Where in the world do you see this except in Nigeria. America is fighting the same war on terror, a far bigger one. But you don't see FEMA buying armoured tanks for the Marine Corps or the Department of Transportation procuring attack drones for the CIA. What kind of country is this. |
What. That is all I use on the go to stay virtually connected. Phones for calls. Tabs for typing stuff. Phone keys too small for me and images too small... Laptops not field friendly at all. |
Here we go again. Every regime wants to outdo their predecessors in running this country down. With a moribund Legislature and disinterested citizenry anything negative goes. |
tutudesz:Wow, anyway if there are just one or two in the market at any point in time expect that. And you can bet no one will dare turn the ignition thoughtless of driving it. If that is the real deal Mr. Afolayan has I seriously recommend he parks it in CBN's vault. Criminal organisations will surely come for it from anywhere in the world. |
Reference:Aha, just did a simple google search and like I suspected, just about 40 were built, most are dead and it is believed only 5 or 6 originals still exist...some not fully restored. ....so it is highly unlikely that is an original. However the kits are available on the market retailing for anything from 10 to 50,000 dollars. I cannot see an original going for less that 1.5 to 2 million dollars. |
EgunMogaji2:Hmm...I'm looking at it and thinking... cream or kit. Only the papers can say. In 1929 not many were made and very, very few will still exist in such pristine condition and will not go for a sandwich. |
In4matic:Still, don't subject your body to drug trials. You are not a guinea pig and mark you kidneys are hyper scarce in the global organ market. |
How long have they worked after the Covid holiday that they are taking another one. What kind of nonsense is this. What manner of waste is this. There are so many issues begging to be resolved, so many battles with the Executive to be fought and they are vacationing. Whay do they even do in hat place other than to bicker. How much energy does that consume. These people are becoming a millstone around th neck of this country. |
BabaRamota1980:What does it mean for democracy. That is what matters. That is your only benefit in the whole exercise. We need to stop chasing individuals and lend our supoort to processes and institutions. Strengthen them for democratic deliverables. Let us stop this idolatry that only breeds feudalism and creates monsters of elected officials. I personally donot give a rat's ass about who will be elected or not since Nigerian politicians are not idealogues. |
Exactly what are Nigerians laughing at. What is amusing here. This is what I say. Everyday people come up here to lament about life in a ravaged countey but cannot or will not connect the dots and see and take seriously issues concerning themselves. They fail to see in this case that the man questioning that Minister is the closest they will come to controlling goverment and directing their own fortunes. They cannot see that the Minister is not elected and so is not accountable to them whatsoever but to whom appointed them. And so they laugh when an appointee of goverment makes jest of their own advocate. You say that in a society of enlightened people and the Minister wil not leave that assembly with his portfolio intact. Before he reaches his office the President will have removed him. We are not ready to move forward as Nigerians. Honestly. |
