How can this be anyone's fault. You need to start to develop yourself. The virus will hit you hard if you are motionless.

I have half a dizen family and extended family members in healthcare, three in Nigeria, one of what you can call frontline and the stories of Covid are very real with many near misses too. How does the internal wrangling of a party become the murder of the peace of the citizens of the state?

In terms of organisation, Lagos is not a model city. Talk about transportation, environment and general infrastructure. I haven't been to Jo Burg, but my mom has... I've been to bigger cities in Europe as I studied in Germany. I have also been to a few African countries as well. While we are not competing, you need to understand that organisation is what makes a city called a city. I lived all my life in Lagos, and I can tell you Lagos is very dirty, if not for trade and commerce, it would be a very bad idea to live here.

PS: Next time be polite... I don't want to insult anyone as I love to debate intelligently. Please let's respect each other.
It was a bad idea for me to continue living there so I quit finally in 2003. Haven't looked back ever since. Thank goodness I have an organisation that spares me no more than three days at a time in that city. I know I have extended my lifespan by a few years after the fact.

Christianity Etc › Re: If A Baby Dies Will He/She Go To Heaven Or Hell? by Reference(m): 1:14pm On Jun 21, 2020
Sure. Hell is for sinners. Babies by nature donot have souls stained by sin so they sure won't go to hell. The criteria for judgement is the knowledge of good and evil. That is the fruit that cut us away from God in the first place.

Once you know wrong from right your soul is active and you can receive impulses from the Spirit of God - conviction or the spirit of the devil - temptation.

Jesus started by saying that we should be like unto little children to inherit salvation, Matthew 18:3. Then he said, 'let the children come unto me..', Matthew 19:4 acknowledging the growth and development of the child with respect to knowing Christ before the soul is lost. Finally, a real danger of losing such a child to sin and warning custodians in Matthew 18:6 of the dire consequences of not getting their children to salvation as quickly as possible.

Children are blameless at birth but like any fresh produce the natural law of decay soon takes over, the earlier you take action to process, i.e. refrigerate, can, salt, preserve it the better. But this is just an interim action.

You can buy time by creating the right, godly environment around them but like every preserved produce, these children will eventually reach their sell by date in innocence and will decay no matter what you do. At this point they will require a complete overhaul only Jesus Christ can do.

Your responsibility is to ensure you keep them safe till Jesus is ready to transform and reconstruct them.

However, a man that cannot control his household can definitely not control the nation. We saw that in the drunk ineffectual buffoon from Otuoke, now the Fulani herdsman is showing the same trait. This makes the Yoruba vagabond Olusegun Obasanjo to stand out. He had a strong hold on his household and on the nation.

All these people you hallucinate about are all cut from the same cloth. Be more interested in institutions, systems or even administrations alone. Once you settle with individuals you get lost immediately and soil your reputation and integrity. No leader(ship) is worth the attention you folks give them.... none.

Commonsense99:
Name just one country where legislatures recieve the type of bogus salaries and renumerations they pay their Nigerian counterparts?

Size is different from efficiency. The military ruled this same size with provisional ruling council that consists of few officers, why can't we cut down the legislature?

This talk talk and no action is the reason why Nnamdi kanu and his followers want out of this contraption.
I disagree. Cutting down the size of the Legislature is watering down democracy and gifting more power to the Executive with potentially disastrous consequences. Size is not the problem, funding is. To correct the problem of funding you have to look at it fundamentally and ask yourself what the function of the Legislature is.

They are law makers who act on the direct instructions of their constituents to better their lives through the instrument of corporate agreements. They aggregate the desires and wishes of small groups of people, such small groups that fall through the cracks of Executive power. Legislators are essentially emissaries or ambassadors of small groups of people or comunities at the centre. A working Legislature thus negates the need fir other establishments such as the Governors Forum which doesn't exist in proper federations.

If the ambassador of Nigeria to the United States or France or the United Nations is empowered, funded, supported by Nigeria and not the United States, France or the United Nations for obvious reasons then why should a Senator or Representative of the people of Ahoada West or Epe or Jos South be funded by the very people it is likely going to challenge in debates on behalf of the people.

Yes they are called Federal Lawmakers but position and responsibilities are not the same thing. It is the person who sends a message that bears the cost not the recepient. The constituents and senatorial zones should bear the cost of representation. The Nigerian citizen, not government should fund the Legislature directly through dedicated levies abd taxes. The citizens should control wages and entitlements. Only by dictating the pipers tube will they get value for money.

Mordecai:
At first, they told us we needed a Sovereign National conference.

At some point, constitutional amendment.

Then GEJ held a National Conference, after which his government courageously allowed a little progressive change in the electoral system, and as a result of that change, lost power to them.

They then ridiculed the National Conference to no end. They threw away the outcome of the conference, stated that Nigeria is okay as currently structured. That our only problem is corruption. That PDP's misrule for 16 years was our worst mistake.
They said we do not need restructuring, that State Police is unnecessary. That our Police is enough.
They defended Baba's 97%/5% policy. They made appointments dependent on what tribe's genes you carry. That merit doesn't matter when the President loves Nigeria, is well-intentioned, and is fighting corruption.
At a point, an independent legislature became the scapegoat for our national problems. Because Baba needs the support of everyone in government. Dissenting views aren't welcome.

Today, Baba owns the legislature. Yet, for some reason, these legislators are still the problem, because they won't vote themselves out of existence.

Now that it's clear that nothing is working, what do they tell us? That we need a NATIONAL DEBATE.

Back to square one. National Conference Debate.

Please, how did they convince anyone that they'll be good for Nigeria?
We don talk taya.
The same man said restructuring was unnecessary. Typically 'Gowonesque' he said that the problem of Nigeria was the allocation or mis-allocation of resources aka, how to spend the money.
Today there is no more money to spend, so he has changed tune and wants to talk.... and we claim these folks are brilliant and competent.

$500 a week?? mehn thats too small na, considering his performance.

they just took advantage of that guy.
His contract runs through 2023 so by the beginning of next season contract renewal talks will likely commence and that is where he will make his move to level up with other teamates of equal performance indices.

Alternatively he could wait and see where Villareal ends up on the log. They are presently level on points in the European positions by the live match results albeit a game ahead. If they can make Europe especially the UCL then I advise he should delay any contract negotiations for another 6 to 9 months so that the rest of Europe can see him and value him properly.

A good player either on low wages or priced at a reasonable transfer fee will always be an attractive buy but if he gets a new and improved contract from Villareal his chances of leaving the club in the short term will become slim as few clubs will be willing to pay wage compensation.

I suspect he is holding out on a new contract to make leaving much easy.

Politics › Re: Shehu Sani Advises Obaseki: 'Return Not To Egypt Where Thee Art Called Obasek' by Reference(m): 3:39pm On Jun 19, 2020
grin...hahahaha... totally agree. As I have said already you don't sort anything out, improve or reform anything by constantly tearing up blueprints and starting afresh. True success comes from incremental improvements over an extended period consisting of the lessons learnt from little failings, little resistance, little battles here and there that make institutions stronger over time.

Just like great body builders know. Those huge, rippling muscles are an accumulation of scar tissue caused by micro tears resulting from lifting weights and pounding exercises. The brain tells the body to repair the tear with a bigger patch to meet with this stress. Over time a skinny fellow can become a man mountain as long as he continues to reform his body.

We will never build the kind and quality of institutions we need to take delivery of the dividends of democracy if the actors involved do not enrich them by rigorous democratic exercises of debate and civil advocacy. If I were Obaseki the whole of Edo State will have been on the streets in protest because I will explain to them in no unclear terms the dangers of running an autocracy.

Make it clear and the people who will ultimately suffer the consequences will take care of the rest. Two weeks is enough. The mess will be cleared up.

Properties › Re: What Is Happening To My Decking? by Reference(m): 7:35am On Jun 19, 2020
Always use a mackintosh whenever you finish a water retaining structure. Concrete is by nature porous no matter the quality of materials used and the technology of placing it, moreover concrete is by nature brittle and doesn't do well in tension, torsion or worst, dynamic loading which can happen in this case where those tanks will fill up and empty frequently, the foundations are bound to move as well.

The only way to keep moisture from permeating the concrete is to place a flexible impervious barrier between the concrete and the finish and in tropical Africa a mackintosh works best (in temperate climes you can use peat and other inorganic oil based compounds).

Such I tell folks who build in high water tables locations or build open contact bathrooms, elevated swimming pools, etc. Structural concrete will move, micro fracture and leak eventually and if it corrodes the rebar over a long period time you are done.
