Nice. But I seriously doubt if those munitions will be sold to us by the US and most are quite frankly useless for the present operations in the North East. I can see JDAM's, Paveway Smarts, Snakeyes even laser opticals.... against what will you use these. Boko Haram is not a conventional army, they have no armoured vehicles neither do they have fixed installations like command and control centres and bunkers. The only useful munitions there are the rockets perhaps against their battle wagons. If cluster hombs were not banned that will be the perfect air drop munition against boko haram. Just that colateral damage is significant |
If not for Covid 19 the Presidential Jet will be due for overhaul by now. You can imagine how many trips will have been made since February and the billions expended. To see how wasteful they are, Nigeria still exists and Mr. President hasn't suffered anything negative. We can survive without the galavanting. |
laosy:I think liability has to spread to tacke this virus. Parents should begin to seriously think about how they raise the children they decide to bring into this world. The society cannot continue to subsidise bad parenting. Anyway the father in this case is not being punished, just interrogated to provide information. The action of government is lawful as has been approved by the State Assembly for a number of years now. |
Jughead29:Be careful the way you think and talk. When you start seeing kids of 6, 8 10 lined up in coffins your heart will fail you and all the bravado will hide with you in the closet. Thr truth is that no one knows what will happen if schools are opened today. It is too much of a risk for anyone to call at this time. However the people and government need to start talking to properly understand the risks and share the responsibility and outcome. If the government makes a bad move and it goes south, the government itself can fall. It is that risky. Once more, NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO STAND THE SIGHT OF CHILDREN IN COFFINS ENMASSE. |
Eulalia:Perfectly understand your economic predicament but you have to be careful here. The government is in total liability for all the decisions surrounding Covid 19 so far. If you force their hand and they yield that responsibility to you then you will face serious consequences if those kids get infected enmasse and God forbid there are fatalities associated with any school. In that case the school will be shutdown completely and for a long time and if that is a private institution may never be opened again and have its promoters subject to endless lawsuits. It is one thing to have adults go down with the virus, it is another level of passion to see innocent kids needlessly suffer or die. One has to be extremely careful. Naturally I don't expect parents of only kids or parents advanced in age or those who went through hurdles to have children to expose them without serious thought. I have advocated a number of times that the government should not be unilateral in its actions. It should interact with the people preferably through town halls (because the spread and effect of the pandemic is territorial and differs from location to location) to properly state its position, strategies and limitations so that risks and resources are spread as widely as possible, imposing less pressure on society. The result is that if parents feel the risk is manageable by consensus then schools within that area can open but if they feel the risks are untenable then the schools remain shut till more progress is made. There teachers and school proprietors will express their economic problems ahd seek help and palliatives at that level. We all agree that people should not be punished economically because of their professions and a choice to invest in education. |
internationalman:They know more about a black man and white police in the States than the carnage unfolding before their buried heads in the sands of their own country. |
I repeat again. This has nothing on Nigeria. We have wider racial chasms, deadlier religious intolerance and deeper prejudices running through the length and breadth of Nigeria. Once more. We have massive timbers stuck in our eyes. I wonder how we manage to see the speck all the way across the Atlantic. |
.... Original 'Trick or Treat'....How does a poor, mono-product economy with customised visionless leadership socially uphold a people who procreate like hamsters sustainably....where in the world have you seen The Poor help the poor. |
Cool. I will apply for my private island. |
OmoDavido:Disaster lurking in our public universities. |
maclatunji:This man. Are you still around. Long time. |
After IBB no one saw the legendary gap teeth quite in thd same light.... sorry.... |
banhammy:That is the typical Nigerian thought process. Well it doesn't work in other climes where for instance a Board is there for a reason. If he wanted his way then he had to persuade the Board, lobby them or whatever but to ride over them speaks only wrong. |
The Nigerian just cannot handle authority, power and privilege without abusing it. It is our sub-culture. No one cares to go in, serve with professionalism and dignity and leave with only an ovation and best regards. Legacy is a foreign language to us. Just see how this man has ended a promising career where the world was at his feet. Just sad. Nigerians can see how a properly structured system will identify and eject corruption just as tye white blood cells arrest pathogens. If it wereto be Nigeria no one below him will be able to comment thoughtless of considering removing him. |
None of my business. This is for the Lagos taxpayer to react. It is with his sweat they are chomping on 40 million naira forbidden fruits possibly from the Garden of Eden. |
Na so. That is the inherent dangers in this new found love for Executive Orders. They only breed tyranny, often made without the deep thought that comes from debates and proper legislation. So, Mr Wike expect a legal whirlwind when your immunity expires. Just a pity that the opposition in Rivers is decadent. If not your position will have become untenable. |
VaselineCrew:Very damning campaign poster. What were they thinking back then... ![]() 216 to where we are today is the halving of every Nigefian's net worth in real terms or we can also say... the doubling of poverty.... all within five and a half years.... incredible. |
CokeBar:You actually have a very serious point and one which has bothered me for a few weeks now after reading reports of the cost to American Airlines (generic, not AA) of keeping their massive fleets airworthy particularly those parked in airports just a slingshot from the coast and corrosive, salty air. Civil aviation authorities here should ensure the best practices in extended downtime checks and recertification. Each aircraft should be inspected and flight tested before re-entering service. I will certainly wait a week's worth of flights before boarding any aircraft or going bear any airport. The roads have been my links across the country these past months and that is not about to change. |
Honestly don't know how this relates to Nigeria. When it comes to discourse around racism I think the focus on this forum should be right here in Nigeria. We have far bigger problems around ethnicity, prejudice, hate and bigotry. If the assaulted man is not a Nigerian then it up to America to clean its mess. We don't have better citizen relationships and our police is certainly worse. Once again, the speck and the log narrative. |
A very dark day in the life of this administration. There is just no excuse for this. The citizens of this country should be incensed at these images of total waste in the midst of crippling want. Just sad. |
Rayboss:And you rather believe anyone who posts anything on social media in a country globally known for its cyber fraud...ypu need to up your game. You surely can do better. |
Very good in principle but the action can be contested in court and overthrown at any time. It is always better to effect fundamental change out of law and from debate. This action is the political equivalent to Executive Extra-Judicial lynching. It appeals to emotions, delivers crude justice but leaves no one intellectually nourished. We need to learn the art of building the nation by debate, the process of which deepens and broadens knowledge, spurs further ideas, sharpens the wits of leadership and inspires the nation through unity of purpose and unity of values. Leadership should learn the art of getting its way by consensus which is the sustainable way to develop no matter how daunting the prospects of success are in our fractious, multi-ethnic, multi-religious country. |
Release all the chickens from all the poultries in India and the problem will be solved in two days. Organic flying food will lead to better eggs and meat. QED. |
janedonez:Indeed. The US lost an F-22 Raptor and an F-35 JSF this past week alone if I'm not mistaken. Accidents involving military equipment is very common. PS. Both from Eglin Airforce base, Florida. Still investigating. Now these two airframes are the most sophisticated in the history of battle aircraft and the cost of those two planes will buy at least a squadron of those Russian choppers. |
Even Nigerians, ace racists are commenting on this thread. Talk of the toothpick and log. Abegi. |
Thie reopening of schools should be a national, not a state decision as I was telling someone today, the primary reason being that a lot of kids attend schools across state lines at various levels and it cannot work with the national lockdown in place. |
MasterJayJay:It is still not wise. It just prolongs the story, draws unnecessary attention and dissipates energy, not to talk of the fact that it can limit the number of waters you can fish in. If you are strong and have overcome something you just do that, move on. |
Not too sure if this disclosure is wise in a society such as ours and I hope she has sought the consent of the boys being young adults. |
Long story. Get a rape kit and do a DNA test to determine who did it. Evidence is it. |
Stop watching Nollywood, Bollywood and parts of Hollywood. Watch British telly for a year and you're done. |
RuudVanNisteroy:Then they should be ready to pay dearly. Everyone is responsible for their actions. |
The goverment should just leave the downstream sector and quietly walk away. It has done enough damage for 50 years. Once Dangote's refinery is open for business the sector should be completely deregulated. |
