Ronaldo and Messi type of argument... but few know it is because they play for the Real Madrid's, Juventus's, the Barcelona's of this world not the Notts County, the Norwich City's...

The fact is that a good system will mitigate the effects of bad leadership and a bad system will mess up even the Jose Mourinho's of the soccer coaching world.

Whoever rules is not the matter. What our priority as citizens are to ensure institutions are built and work properly. Whether a good leader leads to a good system is merely academic, a chicken and egg discourse.

correct how? he doesnt have Range rover and lexus? You are the one who is seeing what he wants to see. What is he doing with Toyota and range rover, what message is he sending, that his cars are not good enough for him that he needs toyota and range rover??
Oga, be sensible enough to realise what is happening and stop demonstating ignorance here. No one is talking about personal preference. No one will question any goverment official for buying any brand of car for his personal use.

But these are official vehicles for official purposes paid for by PUBLIC funds. There was a time in the 70's and 80's when Peugeot was the official brand of government simply because they were assembled in Nigeria. There were far better brands around the globe but the candle of nationalism still flickered aibeit dying. Now their shame knows no bounds.

So stop you pointless comparisons between private and public officials. Innoson does not belong to government in name but belongs to all Nigerians in spirit, the spirit of 'can do', industrialization, the made in Nigeria brand, the hope of future prosperity these same folks are apt to preach but sadly cannot practice.

You mister giving excuses are just a shame to citkzenship that shoukd hold to account those who choose to squander our common patrimony for completely selfish purposes. No one stops them for using whatever vehicle they want but we as a people should be concerned about what kind of vehicle they are asking us to buy for them. It is our money not theirs. Get that fact. And solve half the economic problems facing this country.

If America is worried that it is losing jobs and investment to China they should also recognise that we are losing jobs and investment to them and appreciate the negative effects it has on the stability and future of not only Nigeria but the sub continent.

It is not only about passion but legality as well. And in the process of legalizing ot the debates that will arise will pit everyones mind to rest that it is for this and that purposes precisely. For those who support it in the west. Without a legal framework the concerns that it can be used as a political tool is equally real.

Goodyness:
I am with Prof. Sagay on this one. There is too much lawlessness, was about time some orderliness was brought to bear. There was life before okada and keke, there will be life after them. No country or city can progress with that level of chaos and lawlessness.
Then you might as well ban every social activity in Nigeria because nothing simply works.

Why not ban the police because despite the bribery and harassment crime escalates, why not ban univerisity education because sorting and grinding remains rampant, why not close the ports because Apapa is a mess, etc and etc.

Why not ban politics and politicians because 22 years after the return of democracy all indices are worse.

My dear be more cerebral. This is not the way to make progress. We must learn how to think our way out of problems and innovate to develop. Take each component out of the machine of state and repair it.

Let me let you into a little secret of success other nations understand. That is the concept of 'Incremental Improvement'. You hold a position and manipulate it until you get the best, then put it back into the fire, sit back and after a while modify it again.

You will NEVER get anywhere in life it you continue from scratch everytime in your quest for perfection.

Lagos state will never solve its transportation problem like this.

Once again. Here we are. The oeoole versus the goverment they elect "

"WHO DONOT HAVE THE RESPECT TO CONSULT THEM BEFORE TAKING DECISIONS THAT AFFECT THEM. "

I say it a thousand times... Is there something in the black psyche thay forbids consultation, negotiation, debates and agreements. What kind of democracy do we practice for heavens sake.

Yes we have a security problem, a congestion problem, an environmental problem, etc but these donot affect goverment officials alone but everyone. So why can't the people be stakeholders in decisions that affect them positively or negatively. Why treat the people like those ruled under colonialism.

Are town halls for political campaigns only, are legislators for show?... Must you condemn everything that does not work. A plane crashes you ban aircraft, bikes are used for robbery you ban bikes. This is juvenile thinking symptomatic of people.that cannot reason out problems.

Believe you me for every single issue that led to the ban there is an alternate solution bordering on orientation, organisation, legislation, training, standardization, registration, etc that will satisfy all stakeholders if there is honesty in the whole concept and hardwork to see them through.

I.was watching Arise this morning and the Gokada thing. Imagine a foreigner trying to find solutions while the locals are insistent on 'bush burning'.

Look, in moving from a developing to a developed status we are going to be faced with an enormous number of socio-economic questions that will require a thought based leadership to solve them.

To be brash, rash and mindless in handling them will just delay and stagnate the quest to move forward. Because those with ideas will be left out of decision making and inconsequential in developmemtal strides.

Goverment should stop fighting the people it claims to serve. They are partners in developement not peons on a plantation.

Oga Sani Bello. It is very easy. First be transparent with the State's economy. If there is a shortfall raise taxes, period.

Goverment does not belong to you it belongs to everyone. Let the citizens of the state decide whether they can afford to pay the minimum wage. The money belongs to them.

This govt is confused

You want to recruit community police without paying them, how would they do the work wholeheartedly without extorting the innocent citizens

Even the Nigerian police that get pay are still harassing people for money
I am not even worried about extorting from citizens because heads or tails the citizens have to pay for their collective security as all over the democratic world.

But my worry is that it is the crminals who will immediately step in and take the initiative. And once the evil vermins of crimimality is sown in any institution, it will take a bonfire to get rid of them.

Sometimes you just wonder whether this is not a scenario where the goverment wants the restructuring of the security architectute of this country to fail so that the status quo will prove sustainable. Their body language to various movements to have things changed is just wrong.
Politics › Re: Community Policing: FG Constables Won’t Get Salary, It’s Voluntary – Police by Reference(m): 1:21pm On Feb 04, 2020
Goverment just no get sense. You can raise taxes for phantom, non descript infrastructure but don't have it upstairs to raise revenue for the pressing issue of our time.

If you came out today in a cerebral manner to say Nigeria needed XX billion naira to recruit, train, kit and operate an extra 100,000 strong community police officers because it cost XX thousand naira per head and that will add 3, 4, 5, 6 basis point to the tax rate who will oppose or question its rationality....

...but they will always miss the proper play of goverment...

Indices of society are constantly under review by the wary. Tough situations are handled by the intellectually competent. Rigorous studies are conducted to find solutions to those challenges and theoretical solutions are tested, assessed, adjusted and tested yet again before the perfect strategies are implemented.

Nigerians will continue to suffer as long as they place sentiment front an centre in their choice of those who should lead them. Cosmopolitan, dynamic city states like Lagos require a level of governance that is far higher than they presently operate due to the inherent complexities.

We keep shouting that we want investors in Nigeria, how will an investor cope with unstable policies?

When virgin Atlantic was tapped to come and invest in Nigeria, they only asked who will pay for damages Incase there’s a bridge of contract... They never got a reply.
It’s such a shame that we treat investors this way
Totally agree. We donot have cogent strategies to tackle any fundamental challenge or achieve any meaningful thing in this country. We need to be cerebral about life, and adopt think tanks that will fashion long term strategies for developing Nigeria. Not ruling off the cuff and knee-jerking at every societal rap around the ankles.

Like I said a few days ago. If you value the entire automobiles, that is bikes and trikes taken off the streets and out of the economy of Lagos state in one fell swoop you will probably get a figure in the order of 100 billion naira. What the government shoukd have said years ago is:

How can get that amount out of the hands of Lagosians and invest it on their behalf on a mass transit system that meets with out development plans and objectives going forward. Come up with a blue print, cook it into a profitable business plan and you will be surprised the average Lagosian will come together to raise half a trillion by way of equity.

There are alternative ways to fund cash heavy investments and like I explained the bond system was used widely in Europe and the United States in the 40's and 50's when those nations were totally broke coming after the world war. As a matter of fact you can trace some of the notable infrastructures today in those countries and some bonds that are being redeemed till today.

Its illegal in Nigeria so if you want the laws change petition the National Assembly and lobby the Honourables therein. You're barking up the wrong tree but I can imagine the publicity bell will chime in your bank accounts soon...

Like I was in a discussion this morning about how we get things done in Nigeria with regards the Amotekun bruhaha amongst other things and I was explaining how democracy was the easiest ways of getting things done if the right channels were followed which is through lobbying Representation at the heart of law making. But Nigerians seldom understand how these things work.

What is taking the CAC to court for. Do you want them to do something illegal. No judge in Nigeria will grant those prayers. Its just the wrong way to go about things. The southwest had some 20 plus percentage of votes in both houses, all the leaders of that region needed to do was to lobby to get a majority to support it. The south east, south south and middlebelt, all crises regions would have easily pushed through any legislarion to restructure the security architecture of this country making all the hulabaloo unnecessary.

To be silent will give ammunition to those who question the need to balance the religious equation in political office at the detriment of merit or political expediency.
