colossus91:I remember the days of the Great Sugar Ray and the deadly southpaw, the 'Merciless' Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Na so the hype be. I was too sure the older and softie Sugar Ray was no match for man who was undefeated up to that point in title matches, dispatching all who came his way with devastating knockouts even the feared Mexicans. But the Sugar Man danced and danced his way round the ring to win a split in 12 rounds ending Marvin Hagler's career (he retired after that) and my interest in boxing for about a decade until Mike Tyson came around. We know Tyson's story. The fact is that boxing is a whole lot more than punch power. It is not brawling. It is an art and a serious mental exercise. There are no superstars. Everyone will eventually get beat badly. After the Hagler and Sugar Ray match which I watched live I will never again say, 'A cannot beat B. |
At last coming to the front page. One picture still giving me nightmares.... Wilder's jaw shift.... meen boxing is a wild sport.... just terrible. |
Very stupid, thoughtless, uncharitable statement to be making. Civilians are dying there in numbers most of whom were not even born before or during the civil war. Clearly shows we simply donot know what is going on in this country and what is responsible for situation all parts find themselves in. For their informartion not all northerners evsn then supported the civil war and several were vocal both here and in London and Washington against it and against the Gowon led Nigerian goverment. I know this for a fact from a first hand source. Sweeping generalisations are dangerous and counter productive. Those who claim to own his country and are responsible for its terminal decay can be counted on the fingers of one hand and their representation lies beyond rhe north. This statement has no iota of objectivity but just one of hate. Tolerable from faceless individuals, unfortunate from a recognised, registered group. |
kiyosaki1:That is the mentality of the average, failed, sentiment filled citizen when defending his patch of grass. Ignore the present failure or justify the present failure with past failure. Your wife employs a cook who prepares rubbish and when criticised she tells you that he is exactly like the driver you employed who crashed your car and was subsequently sacked. Is there anything to indicate sanity in this. I go through American discourse whenever I have time. You will hardly hear the name Obama, Clinton or Bush mentioned despite their successes or failings. It is Trump, Trump, Trump and lately Sanders and other top Democratic contenders. They face those who are in office or who seek for office because they know better and seek better. Here we are filled wirh excuses and since these leaders see that the standards we hold them to are so low there is no impetus to do better. It is a terrible vicious cycle. The next President for instance will come in and spend his 8 years comfortably blaming Mr. Buhari while we cheer. Then he too will leave his mess because we tolerate it. |
SLAP44:That is the beauty of a virile democracy. It allows the truth to be seen and real solutions found. Now they know that the solutions lie elsewhere they are bound to be more cerebral about politics and governance. That is why without the opposition opportunity to govern Lagos, the State cannot really breakout. It is bound to stagnate. Not because of the actors involved but the citizens who right now are docile in demanding better because they simply cannot envisage better. It is human nature to be limited by experiences. |
SLAP44:Small in what sense. Lagos and Niger ate not alike in anyway.so the expectations of administrative structures will differ. Lagos is almost entirely urban, cosmopolitan, far more densely populated and demands a lot more public services than Niger. This means a lot more schools, health centres, markets, roads, all under the responsibility of local goverment adminstration. The density of responsibility is a lot higher and with the hindrance to scale the Constitution provides it is natural to expect agitations for new ones. As a matter of fact if we had active demographic studies that feed into a constantly evolving political structure like in the United Kingdom then factors like migration can be a real determinant. The population of Lagos continues to increase on a daily basis due to migrants from other parts of the country. In towing the UK styled system what happens from time to time is that the number of politcal representatives (in the Senate and House of Reps in our case) in Abuja will reflect this with additional Reps coming from Lagos and a reduction im those areas from where the migrants come from. But that is a clime that is objective, equitable, dynamic and accountable. We know it cannot work in a Nigeria ofday filled with crude sentiment. Resources should go to populations not just land area. It is the people who require Representation, not the ground. It is the people who pay the taxes not the land. It is the people who require the schools, hospitals. A hundred people living on a plot of land require a lot more resources than one man living on a acre. That is the truth. |
Once again, I simply donot care how the apointees or otherwise are stiched together. My concerned is how the whole apparel of governor performs under scrutiny. Like people say, the office of the Chief of Staff is not one recognized by the Constitution so why are people frothing after Mr. Kyari. The President has every right ro choose his aides and use his aides the way he pleases to conduct the business of goverment be it a human aide, a pair of reading glasses or a walking stick. What Nigerians ought to be concerned about that I have repeated severally is the state of our institutions particularly the key ones one that stabilise and grown our democracy. Get those right and the drama at the Presidency cannot hold Nigeria back. |
Na so. Here they come again. After hyping the present Head of State as an ex-military super hero swooping down to conquer and deliver. Today it is the Service Chiefs that are the lightning rods of government's aecurity inadequacies. Nigeria loves her feudalism. Few aee interested in the institutions thatdeliiver political hype and propaganda. Few even have an idea of how a government should operate in a democratic dispensation to deliver dividends. Its always name dropping, title hailing without a single empirical evidence of potential performance. Poor quality citizenship can never and should never expect good quality leadership. The truth is that in a functional democracy the military should be able to handle security matters even if there is no President or Head of State in office for any period of time. The military is an Institution. What democratic leadership should bring is no more than policy framework to sustain and grow institutions, period. The competence of any institution on any one operational matter is not a function of changing political leadership. Donald Trump on his own cannot make the military more or less competent than it is. He can decide to go to war or not. He can decide to make cuts or increase military budgets if he likes. All these have to do with projecting power and the politics of using the military. But he cannot make the military more or less professional and capable because it is an institution that has its tradition and doctrines. That is what makes an institution an institution. We must understand thisas Nigerians and begin to demand from leadership the right way of doing things. FFK is just playing to the gallery as usual. |
Salebo:Oga. Rather expend your energy helping government find a solution to this issue. The people you face on social media are not the problems of Nigeria or of the insurgency. There will always be critics as long as democracy exists making your exercise one of total futility. Responsibility is the price of power. Let us who support the government be vocal about the ideas we desire to see implemented. |
So what happens when the radar detects the mountains of garbage on our streets or the potholes the size of canyons or the floods when the seasonal rains just round the corner come....what will it switch to? Who will make cars for the extreme reality tv show called Nigeria abeg. On another note it is pleasing to see that technology is also driven by what I will call the third generation automakers, the Koreans and not just the first (Europeans and Americans) or the second (the Japanese). It gives hope that fifth and sixth generation automakers in the developing world can make significant impact as long as they sustain vision, consistency and excellence. We may see an Innoson for instance launch flagship or cutting edge automobile technologies in say 40 years from now... ![]() |
Since they are likely to be minors get their parents and guardians arrested and prosecuted. The laws on criminal liability ought to be widened in the case of minors and all school age adults up to college level. That is the only way to stop the cultism menace. Parents will then take their responsibilities more seriously and have only the number of kids they can handle. If you have evil genes please the society neefs you to stay behind bars. |
The first thing restructuring will do is to place each person in charge of his own destiny. This is exactly why it is opposed and so Nigeria cannot simply develop or have a better tomorrow. Nigerians just donot like responsibility. Why should his proposal be a national one. Why can't it be done locally afterall the problem is local. That is what restructuring will do. It will enhance the capacity of handling all issues at the smallest demographic where issues are understood and appreciated. |
Too tired to respond abeg. Tough day. Can't even read the comments. |
Nigeriams love feudalism. Perhaps we should change our Constitution to allow for rotational monarchy....maybe this will douse the endless and vicious ethno-religious upheavals. |
I think a better idea will be to establish specialist agricultural extension service companies that the government can then seed with invest. The idea of giving farmers or farming cooperatives or government establishments these equipment is often counter productive. In a couple of years of use these tractors for instance will need maintenance. There will be no funds to do that because the structure of the services they provide are not geared towards maintaining them. No one considers an oversized farming implement as a cost centre. They are then left to rot and the cycle of government aid come to the fore again. If government really wants to promote agriculture as a critical component of economic development it has to think of reforming the structure with a view to transforming agriculture from a vocation to an industry, and a key component of industry is specilaization services. Establish specialist services on land preparation for instance where the tractors will cultivate land for planting for a commercial fee. Fertilizer distribution and applications too for a fee, combined harvesting for a fee, processing, storage and packaging for a fee so that all the farmer has to do is the real gaagricultural work of tending. Specialization will lead to much larger volumes of work achievable thus cheaper costs, much greater tendency for technology input thus better profits. We should start thinking beyond subsistence farming if wr should permenently shut our borders to foreign imports and feed ourselves well. I just donot like mindless socialist handouts in the name of empowerment. No nation has developed without a mind towards: better, cheaper, faster, more. Next thing is that a tractor will end up in the Chairman's house to be used as a local political football. |
How I wish it was 4.9 years. The 'Devil's Dung' must be cleansed from our lands and pysche one day, then we will begin to develop. The sticky stuff has held our destiny bound for too long. It has killed, maimed and turned more men to animals than any plague that befell Egypt of antiquity. Can't wait. |
back2sender:Far more than a bad reputation. It is putting our democracy in peril. This is a mini coup within the government. When the chain of command is broken the government is broken. Something likethis happened in Congo (I think) many years ago and guns were drawn in the executive chamber at meet. I have never been a fan of all these strong men thing Nigerians so much love. Everything this government has not been able to achieve as positive benefits of democrady is down to weak institutions. The continuous undermining if institutions is what I just cannot understand. |
Of course his loyalty is towards the President not the government, to the Presidency not the Constitution. Nigerians, these men are not answerable to you. It is time you begin to reform your country. The dangwrs of having an absolute monarchy disguised as a democracy are fastfast becoming too evident. I woukd rather have a cook that I can fire than the bezt cook in the world. What if this man says Mr.Buhari is going nowhere and he is securing a third term., Who or what is going to stop him and Mr. Kyari, tow men effectively controlling an army of over 500,000 AK-47's. Citizens of every nation I know are always wary with the powers they GIVE by elections and watch like hawks what is done with the powers to ensure such powers are not abused to their disadvantage. The battle and subsequent imoeachment of Donald Trump was on nothi g but abuse of power by a people who know the dangers of abuse. That is why coups, dictators and despots can never emerge in that country. This Presidency is within touching distance of democratic implosion. I seriously think it is time to start fighting back. The hard fought democracy, consolidated over fifteen years and peaking with a successful iintra-party transition in 2015 is about to be lost. |
ndidibabe:Work on work is what brings experience. I am sure the Arsenal network is not expecting to win all trophies today or tomorrow for that matter. Everyone knows they are rebuilding. What their fans want to see is consistent improvement in the players and the team. And I think the lad is doing just that. |
When we said restructure you said no.... so take anything you see in good faith.... |
Like I said the other day, a regulator must be an unbiased umpire juggling a fine line between the intrests of the customers and vendors towards a sustainable and prosperous industry going forward but we know that in feudal Nigeria the king is always right first, then the plantation owner is given his say so that the peons can comply. |
CSTR2:The get ready for anything you see. When the originator of the detail say DONOT DISCLOSE. It means DONOT DISCLOSE. He didn't mention disclose only for business purposes. Any other thing is just inviting trouble legit or not. Personally I am not even worried about fraud. Identity theft is the real deal that can potentially end your life or put your in an irrecoverable position. |
That is why it is good to have someone else in your life. This is a classic case of the dangers of a lady without companionship. Elementary mistakes that in this case proved deadly. There is nothing like having a second opinion and caution when certain decisions are taken and the fact that seeing her vulnerable made it all the easier for the felons. Secondly another revelation from this incident is that those high up in leadership and government are completely detached from the reality of state of the nation, in this case, the spiralling crime wave and the failings of the security and law enforcement structure in the country. Two things. She wanted to 'move away' to detach herself, to escape from the reality that is the abundance of our youth engaging in anti social vices because the nation has failed them. Secondly reporting to the police she thought was engaging a responsible, professional organisation because at her level that is what the propaganda says. But if her world was in the reality of street level Nigeria the last thing a vulnerable person would do is to report a group of potential murderers to the police. What did she expect wil happen. Why did she think criminals get lynched when caught. The common man lnows the police is a quasi-failed organisation known for aiding and abetting ctiminals. Unfortunately she didn't. |
Only restructuring can save Nigeria. A structure that puts a man such as this in cahoots with oil multinationals simply cannot be explained in any rational country. Are we the only with natural resources. Why can't we just copy the models, systems, structures of those nations that donot hsve these issues. We complain endlessly yet insist on living in a bug free swamp...is that not madness? |
989900:He is not. |
chatinent:The FBI does not work with the military. Where do you get that nonsense from. The FBI is a civilian, law enforcement organisation. Its sphere of influence is exclusivély on American soil and will only operate abroad in cooperation with Interpol. The military on the hand is constitutionally barred from operating on American soil. They are an organisation of war and of projecting power not of law enforcement. The laws governing them are entirely different. It is not like Nigeria where the military and DSS does police work while the police is a business centre. |
Psalme91:Your offence is poor courtship where all these issues are discussed and AGREED. Where you discuss amongst many other things, children, how many, what spacing, etc and troubleshoot to gauge tolerances such as conception delays, health challenges, etc and the all mighty Nigerian question of the sexes of the children. You ask the questions, seek the response, analyse his/her opinion, temperament and then decide whether you can make a union with the man or woman. The better your courtship the better your chances of having a successful, crises free marraige. On the matter at hand, it is clear you married a traditionalist and a man with modest vision and little understanding of how life actually is from many perspectives to numerous to mention here. But what I suggest you do is project the position of a man around the house by doing some of the things men do and bring up your girls like boys would while you work on his psyche turning his attention away from his concerns. Having a boy baby is scientifically easy these days but I am not always for finding cheap solutions to life challenges. Your husband has a fundamental challenge God perhaps wants to root out. Work it out. |
dollarsplenty:Then what.... You guys should realise that fight is a career defining and ending fight anyway it goes. Boxing is a unique sport. It is not tennis pro circuit or a formula one season where the slate is wiped clean every year end. When a boxer fights his ultimate contender his value diminishes drastically subsequently whether he wins or not because boxing is all about hype and the purse of a boxer is determined by the value of a fight in the eyes of the public. So boxers who have an eye for making as much from the sport will delay that ultimate fight as long as possible to hype it until such a time they feel they have nothing left to make from rhe sport and then they go for the last great payday. Look at the greatest earner of all time in the sporting world, Mayweather Jnr. He waited for as long as he could before taking on Senator Pacman in some of the richest fights in history and subsequently wound up his career. Joshua should not be in a haste if he wants his commercial value to continue climbing. He should not rush his career like Lennox Lewis who was belt and title hungry and went too early against the big Americans, won and then promoters were fed up. He should milk the occasion, hype his position and defend his belts so his career can be as lengthy as the greats of old. If you want to see him quickly why not put down a billion dollar promo and I am sure he will be ready tomorrow.... to fight and retire. |
Governor Zulum think out of the box please. Create wealth not war. Set up cottage industries to make cheap mobile phones, radio receivers, solar kits and the likes to employ your young men and women in their thousands. Approach the EU, the UNDP and others for help. Tell them you want your people, your youthful citizenry in gainful employment to eat away at the rampant poverty that is driving them to crmimality and extremism and they will surely fall over themselves to help you with means, men, machines and markets. The world is willing and able to.help you break the viscious cycle if only there are courageous men of vision and passion for meaningful and sustainable development by industry. You can never and will never be able to surmount fundamentalist driven.violence with violence when the fuel of poverty and despodency flows freely. Make wealth not war Mr. Zulum. |
I don't think the average citizen cares one bit about these figures bandied about. Even pre teens can see they just donot add up to what us clearly an economy on the rocks. If everything is up at least something must be going down. That is the natural law of everything from logic to matter to thermodynamics to economics. If earnings are up and inflation is up, borrowings are up, subsidies are up and taxes are up then I can only deduce that something fishy is definitely going down. |
The police will tell you that if you see something you should say something....then they trade on the information and you end up dead. If the police cannot find the leak and come mercilessly down on the perpetrators in their ranks then they are tantamount to a failed establishment. There are few breaches of trust that are worse than double dealing.... and to a citizen who aids your job is just reprehensible. |
Honestly, we are just not interested. It is the results we look at. They can choose to either dance or fight to get them. |
