Phoenix999:Three minutes drive from me but am enjoying my leave. Have no time for nonsense. Only if I'm going to GTBank or FBN Jabi will I pass anywhere near there. |
Shelumiel:Are there no blocked drains in Victoria Island, or in Maitama Abuja, yes or no. Are there no bad, misused, abused toilets at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (you cannot travel abroad without at least a half million naira investmment)....and on and on. On the other hand I am privileged to visit rural communities from time to time and in some you can actually see the scorch marks of constant sweeping and can not find a single fallen leaf thoughtless of trash. Some of these folks get by subsistence agric and see selling a bunch of plantains every market day an achievement. There you will see transformers and street lights failing not from frequent vandal visitation but the opposite (absolute neglect). You simply cannot lump poverty and crime or vices in the same pot as a brew society must drink to. It is a false narrative my man. There are rich vandals, there are poor vandals. There are rich thieves, there are poor thieves. There are rich miscreants, as there are poor miscreants. The underlying factor is an atmosphere of responsibility or the lack of it that causes society to prosper or decay. |
Shelumiel:Bunkum. Poverty what. You steal not work ?, you block drains instead of collecting your trash or digging a pit and dumping them in it so you can burn it every weekend. Soumds more like ignorance and sloth to me. Solution? Restructure. to transfer responsibility of society building from the government to the people making responsibility a joint one. The colonial mindset we have inculcated in our DNA since pre independence where authority alone regulates society and the citizens have a mindset of not cooperating but antagonizing (resisting, disobeying) authority has to change. In all activities, all purposes and functions the average Nigerian views situations and takes decisions based on a 'them versus us' perspective. Any authority is viewed with antagonism. We need to reform to view society as a collective endeavour. This 'e no consan me', 'no be my property' irresponsible mindset can only be changed by restructuring to give every citizen an equal stake in society building. |
Just as Denziani defied and sunk Jonathan's government so will Abubakar defy and sink this government. Nothing has changed. Power still corrupts and it has corrupted this government. |
HardMirror:They are fighting for you not for God. They are armed so that you can have the liberty to contiune in deep seated ignorace. |
nokatakata:Hmmm...here we go again. HOPE, I HOPE, WE HOPE....Said it countless times before the last elections. People donot hope about elected officials. They DEMAND. Hope is a helpless, hapless, ignorant and cowardly statement to make concerning the exchange of your franchise for the power of the elected. And I hope you, Lagosians and Nigerians in general can rise above this mediocrity and invoke the powers you have. That is what folks said about the Buhari regime and I warned. You cannot afford to just hope he performs. Then by their body language it was clear they needed a superman to solve the nations problems but I clearly stated then that I needed an ordinary man whom I will empower with superhuman abilities to perform so that the power remains mine and I can withdraw it at anytime. Today no one can approach the superman to demand for anything out of fear. So they hope. I know you say hope because the incoming governor was not your choice just as Ambode was not your choice. There lies your problem. So, until you can killl godfatherism and exercise your collective powers as citizens, every election amd elected official to government is no better than a bet9ja gamble. In Fashola it perhaps worked and Lagos cashed out. In Ambode the ticket cut.... what will the next be....you HOPE. Oga, sustainable development does not come that way. It comes by the fitizens taking rereonsibility for their svtiins and learning through the consequences of their choices. It is not like a God and man relationship where the all knowing God makes choices and sets standards. Your Godfather(s) have proven not to be all knowing and all able. They are found out to be men like you. What Lagosians should demand for is true democracy. Only with that will they be able to change the toga of HOPE for that of REALITY. |
masseratti:He was sacked because the expectations of a trophy every season were not realised. Which coach in the world can deliver that. Even the great Sir Alex had barren years and painful losses during his time. Chelsea as a club is foolishly overambitious and paying the price for it with constant rebooting of their footballing structure almost every season. Result is a trophy cabinet does not reflect the investment they have made over the last decade and a half. If things were done properly it is they not Manchester City that should have been the heirs to the aging Manchester United in premiership successes. Mourinho simply went to United because he felt they were a more mature and stable club willing to give their manager's time to build proper sustainable structures once they found the right man. |
Had a can of 'imported soup' as app this morning. No big deal. Heinz and co. are not Nigerian companies. I am more interested in what the government is doing to make local industries more competitive. Ask instead why your local delicacy cannot be prepped and packed to international standards. That is the concern. |
seunmsg:So what was the point of inviting the aides of the Benue, Rivers and Akwa Ibom governors. You and your fellows simply cannot shake off the toga of impartiality going on. I know you try your best to handle the wind, but on this issue and the whole drama of anti corruption....I can guarantee the futility of it will wear you down. I think the time has come to sheath your pride and call this elephant an elephant. Without internal criticism your principal will only make things worse for you, stumbling from one gaffe to the another. Only a child (a child) does not see the importance of regular critique in character building. |
quickberry2:Then Fayose should not be arrested but asked to repay, period. This is the problem with the whole thing when you 'individualise' instead of institutionalise government/political plans and programs. You are bound to err and the more you err the more society gangs up against you. I'm afraid the legacy of Mr. President continues to wane by passing events proving detractors right day by day. Yesterday it was the reinstating of the corrupt head of the NHIS discussed extensively on an Abuja radio station.... honestly things have not been this bad since the advent of this administration. The standards by which it holds its head above water are now as low as those of the regime it replaced.... |
adexinbox:You know you are the first APC person to admit the whole anti corruption thing is just smoke and mirrors. It was just a means to an end which was the ascension to power, period. Now that the narrative is quickly unravelling I hope the people see more of a level playing field going into the next polls. Because according to you and indeed 'NO ONE IS A SAINT'. |
Bede2u:Told you. |
Almost 20 years of APC Lagos, almost 4 years of APC Federal. The excuses are OVER!!! |
gentlegenius:This is a recipe for congenital heart failure. I can assure that those prawns will do you in within a decade. |
Perfect recipe for weight loss . I have tried everything else. The problem will be keeping it down . |
skarlett:Remove Venezuela. You can get great assets for a farthing and make a killing if you can get them out. |
Mordson:It is true that most of them cannot pay. It is easy to say 24,000 is small but the truth is that when you multiply that by say 200,000 workers and factor in various grade levels you will be talking about several billions, then the civil service as we know is filled with all manner of incidental expenses that further bloats this figure. The fact is that the amounts donot really matter. What is important in expenditure is what you get back from it. It becomes very burdensome when you spend without a visible, tangible return as in social expenditure, but when you expend in investment you recieveall manner ofsupport and encouragement. I think the narrative and outlook of our public service has to change from one of pure expenditure to one about investment expenditure. I think we need to radically reform the way government works. Every year hundreds of thousands across the country retire and jump on the pension bandwagon. If we cannot set aside pension funds for example and properly invest them to leverage then we will get to a point whereby the 5 percent (by population) of the civil service consumes 100 percent of the annual budget and national revenues. Nigeria needs to up its productivity and generate new ideas to pay its workers. This system is unsustainable and will lead to increasing crises sooner than later. |
MallamJackson:Then they should down size their workforce to manageable levels just as any private sector operators would or preferrably right size by commercializing as many government functions as possible so that revenue generating agencies absorb part or all the departmental wage bill. What we lack in Nigeria is ideas. Politicians are elected to make a difference. They are elected not to continue the failed systems of their predecessors but to generate new ideas for the betterment of the society that empowers them. I think the National Assembly needs to pass legislation obliging all Federating units, both state and local government to set aside a fraction of their budget to invest in revenue earning enterprises with the aim of augmenting income from the Federation account and ensure milestone targets are achieved towards total financial independence over the medium to long term. I cannot see how the gap between earnings from Federal coffers and the wage bill will not continue to expand within the structure we presently operate as the nation's population continues to increase and the economy remains largely moribund. States should be compelled to invest, to partner the private sector and be shareholders in enterprise. |
LilSmith55:Kai! hahahahaha....una no go kill pesin oh... |
obailala:My man, Nigeria is not working. It needs to be rebooted, restructured so that people can find a meaning to life beyond just existing to make money. We are wasting away. |
Chukazu:To do that you need to restructure the country to unleash its potentials. Right now there isn't any need to create a Silicon Valley because of allocations and quotas. The structure of the country is like a tree growing from the sky where the leaves feed the roots. Right now government feeds the nation so there is no demand for technology and innovation. Year after year the government budget covers everything from education to defense from water to airplanes, from ballot boxes to armoured limousines. The government plans everything so THAT THEY DONOT NEED THE POPULATION TO CONTRIBUTE ANYTHING to national development. Where there is a deficit in how much they have, they borrow. Innovation is born in a crucible of need, strong need, where a government has to survive on the will of its people. The people literally keep theor government alive, not like this failed system we operate here. That is why whatever those kids produce the government does not need because they have budgetted to purchase it ready made from a far flung country somewhere and if they cannot afford it they take a World Bank loan, a Sukkuk or a Chinese loan to ensure they get it. As long as oil flows Nigeria remains okay they say. We have no national pride, no patriotism, no wisdom to realise that we are not exercising our collective national intellect and competencies and no foresight to realise that we constantly weaken ourselves and strenghten those we send our educated and innovative young men and women to while receiving the products of their sweat at great cost to us. The fact that government after government cannot break the viscious cycle shows it is not a political problem but a structural one and that is why we advocate for restructuring as the panacea to this unsurmountable challenge. If these kids are to move forwsrd they will leave Nigeria for some foreign land. If they choose to remain I bet in ten years they will either be in one non descrpit government office stealing money, or as a lecturer at some washed up higher institution raping students or trading in some made in china electronics at Alaba. Nigeria as a country does not sincerely need them. |
obailala:Well the term water here may just be generic. There are a host of things you can do or add to water to generate a charge. Mechanical advantage isn't all there is. |
Not too sure about the technology behind these devices but you must acknowledge the interest and enthusiasm for the sciences these folks demonstrate. Shows there is hope for the country and her youth. It is the unworkable structure of Nigeria that will inevitably truncate their aspirations and moat likely drive them into the waiting arms of one foreign country or the other. What our educational system has succeeded in achieving over the last 60 years is to sift the wheat from the chaff, then bag and brand the wheat for export, leaving the chaff to be consumed locally by various animal groupings. |
Indeed our health is their priority. And the governor of that state will be galavanting about in a 200 million naira armoured SUV. |
penzino:Because by the time they are done there will be no government officials to govern, no President to preside, no legislators to legislate, no army to fight, no navy to swim, no airforce to fly, not even doctors to confirm the hung are dead. The clergy will perform the last rites on themselves, prison warders will then take their turns in hanging themselves and finally the last judge standing (sitting) will comit suicide leaving Nigeria an uninhabited, empty wilderness....then you will be satisfied from the grave abi. Abegi, corruption is a culture in Nigeria. It cannot work. Who will hang who. |
daddytime:It appears you make poor choices in your relationships. Be very afraid going forward. Make sure your finances are heavily insulated and tenaciously guarded. |
theoldpretender:Told you that in Nigeria, corruption is defined as what the other man did, not me. This inability of Nigerians to see wrong and take a common, unified stand impationately and without prejudice is what constantly undermines this country. Only restructuring can focus the Nigerian on the task of developing common values. |
PassingShot:No sir. It is your ability to repay that matters not essentially your GDP. Our GDP is almost wholy tied to one commodity and five IOC's. This danger is what makes the taking of loans incomparable to the others. Our risk is much, much more adverse. The best economic model involves increasing productivity. If America takes loans it is to finance America almost 90 percent, if Britain takes loans it is to finance British businesses, if China takes loans it is to build Chinese infrastructure by the Chinese. If Nigeria takes loans half of it remains abroad by giving it back to the Chinese, Germans, British and Americans to build infrastructure for us. I repeat again. Infrastructure is the biggest scam in public finances. It is often shrouded in secret. Credit conditions are rarely in the public domain and efficiency are terribly low. It is common knowledge that our roads cost more than most places on earth, our airports are heavily overpriced, our dollar to megawatt power delivery ratio is meteoric. Stadiums, rail lines, seaports, all funded by loans cost more and yet account for huge capital flight. So how can you co oare tne effect of loans the developed world takes to what we disastrously take. Any infrastructure that is not executed to the wholistic benefit of the country in creating jobs, stimulating businesses and establiahing skills and technology cannot profit the economy. If the Chinese want to invest in Nigeria they should BOT rail infrastructure. If the Germans want to invest in bridges and roads they should build and toll. If Hyundai Heavy wants to invest in seaports they should recoup from port charges. If GE wants to build power stations they should register as a GENCO. But if we are taking loans for infrastructure the monies should end up in the pockets of Nigerian engineers, wholly Nigerian companies and the weather beaten Nigerian labour force. Then it will have a real, positive impact on our GDP. |
Actually there is nothing wrong in buying or selling a reconstructed automobile provided due diligence is observed on the part of both the seller and buyer. If the reconstruction was done to standard and documented and the buyer is informed of the limitations of the vehicle before hand so he can make an informed decision then its good to go. There are chop shops all over the world and people recostruct automobiles for a lot of reasons and some by this are able to extend the lifespan of their vehicles. There are so called 'clean' automobiles out there, some with remarkably low mileage but because of the conditions they were put through are far worse bargains and can be in far worse shape than an accidented vehicle. A reconstructed chasis reinforced properly may hold up in a high speed manouver while a severly corroded one or a cracked or weakened one due to a history of bad roads or bad driving may disintegrate catastrophically which I have witnessed. (Toyota Hilux, 1 year old, the driver survived, failed steering column at high speed, 2002). The key here is honest information and quality execution. I drove a friends car to pick him up at the airport a few days ago and since it was not mine I popped the bonnet to check the vitals and what I saw was a mess. I couldn't reach for anything without getting stained. I couldn't locate where the dip stick was and all the jars were covered with thick soot and mud that I couldn't make out the fluid levels. I just closed the thing and drove off. Now this is a vehicle that has just 20,000 odo and about a year old. You can imagine what the underneath, the structure will have gone through. |
Once the link between the man, the properties and illicit funds can be established he is done. There is no way a civil servant shoukd be able to own these, simple. It is very easy to estimate all his earnings since he began his journey of public service. |
I said by 2019 everyone will be demystified. See as barefaced Kano based corruption has humbled the mighty Federal government, tied the tongues of the spitting sai babas and removed the teeth of the feared EFCC. At the risk of 5 million votes who can talk....try it and they will be removed from someone's pocket. Hahahaha...enjoying tje drama.... Told ya all so..... |
When we say restructure, they say it doesn't matter. What better evidence. The man confessed it is systemic, endemic and so is a pandemic. This country needs a total rebuild. Papering over the cracks with the so called, failed anti corruption crusade is just nonsense. |
