Though this is a good start but it is coming late in the day. Opposition politics should not be left to the eve of elections. Concerning these loans I would have preferred if these questions were at the centre of a vigorous debate before they were taken. The PDP has failed in this regards especially the Legislature which approved these loans. Thus on a political party level the PDP is complicit in these loans. They should look at the Kaduna situation where it was APC senators who questioned the El-Rufai loans and blocked them on grounds of frivolity. Ask me what the key Kaduna PDP men were doing. I mean the likes of Makarfi. Issues should not be left to electioneering/campaign mud slugs. We need debates for everyday qualitative governance to which all sides participate. I do love the parliamentary system. I thoroughly enjoyed PMQ's today from the UK. That is mature democracy in action. |
Of course, they have earned all the names they give themselves. Where there is no proof of income, vocation or profession the vacumn must be filled with a title, and a job description to go with it whether deserved or not. I have said it countless times. "Warri based billionaire....Lagos based millionaire....Kano based kobonaire, " is not a job description or title but a very sure indication of a society adrift in morality. Duch will inevitably play out in public in the mosr embarassing manner for the parties involved. |
Told you all that corruption is not the primary problem of Nigeria. ...since absolutely everyone is involved....absolutely everyone. |
The government is under siege so they've battened down the hatches... don't worry they can see you through their periscopes. |
The posters have faces. Shouldn't be too hard putting the bills for the clean up on their tax accounts. |
That is why when social media tags a man first by what he spends before how he makes the money he spends I have grave reservations that society as a whole is not being poisoned to death. That being said, it is even more clear that the past government was indeed a very corrupt one and I hold President Jonathan responsible for the impunity of that time. He was warned severally about characters like this and could not summon the courage to remove erring heads of parastatals where such took place namely the petroleum sector headed by Ms Maduekwe. She amongst other were the albatross that finally sank his administration and left in tatters his legacy. |
These candidate senators, Ekeremadu and Abaribe are purebred politicians and will not add to the value of the ballot or potential government, from a governance performance point of view. My opinion. |
Enjoying this back and forth tennis mudslug. Good for our democracy. The outcome of gladiatorial contests is the only benefit the people can get in a democracy. |
Rilwayne001:Not a PDP apologist but I don't like this at all. I wonder why such an important issue is not debated in parliament so that important issues of governance and the economy are discussed, understood and debated. I will want toknow where the Federal Government will find the resources for this without more expose to foreign loans. How the states will cope and what effect it will have on the private sector both organised and informal. Trouble is coming. |
I like the ,'business friendly solution', to the herdsmen crises. Nigeria badly needs ideas to keep her afloat and I hope the contest and debate in the run up to the polls will be all about ideas and not the usual ignominy. |
Neatboy:And what political interest has Okonjo Iweala shown before government, in government and after the PDP lost in 2015... |
Icon4s:That is why the performance of government after four years is this poor. Mr Veepee doesn't have an electoral value of his own so he has no principles to defend and cannot constructively argue or engage with Mr. President with any level of confidence. We need someone who is not politically naive. A person who can bring theory and practice together, who can make realistic promises and knows how to actualise them in a complex society such as Nigeria. And finally a person who brings political capital to the ticket so that he can stand eyeball to eyeball to Mr. President when tough times arise and cut throat political decisions have to be made. We are tired of docile, spare tyres as vice presidents who we can not even imagine as future presidents or stand their own in competitive elections. The last veepee we had who had the clout to give the government needed value was Atiku himself. Amd thatis why he is on the ballot today. Mr. Osibanjo can never in a million years win a presidential election on his own without mafia like support. Now for Mrs Okonjo Iweala, has this not been the sole criticism over her two stints as Finance Minister, that she was ridden roughshod in the mismanagement of the economy. Those things happened because she was an appointee (having no electoral value). A country like ours having weak institutions must rely at its infancy on political interpower play to get things done. It will take a hybrid personality, that is a technocrat (who knows HOW to get things done) with a politician (who is ABLE to get things done) to deliver. This we have not seen even in the ruling party where the current President and VP are poles apart and cannot seem to combine to make things work. That is why when the President is out and hands over things appear to work, but can Mr. VP retain power... no. So things quickly fizzle out and frustratingly return to the staquo quo as soon as Mr. President is back. Mrs Iweala as Veepee will be nothing more than a yes man (sorry woman) whose only use will be as a lightning rod for the government's shortcomings as she has done for almost the 16 year PDP rule. We need someone who is stronger (more powerful) to produce a better government. |
She has no political experience and with her close links to the immediate past government, the unecessary baggage will prove more of an anchor to the ballot. That is why I prefer Peter Obi. He's young and so a potential presidential candidate himself, a technocrat, has campaigned and won an election and has a solid track record without the attendant baggage of corruption you can never seem to dissociate from Atiku himself....and of course he is from the core east and a politically dynamic state in Anambra. |
They have started again, 'son of ex-CBN governor...' is not a title, profession or can it feature on a resume'. The only thing it will do is draw unecessary attention to his father who as an ex civil servant should not and cannot support an ostentatious lifestyle if he was not a thief. What does the young man do for a living please, to straighten the story out and the legacy of his father. |
SocialJustice:...including the Presidential motorcade?....hmmm, what will we call our own...."the Rhino?" |
contigiency:That is not the subject matter here. What is being discussed is the strengthening of the opposition party which I personally want to see ahead of the polls so that whoever emerges President will have gone through a tough, cerebral competition. I know there are party faithfuls on both sides of the argument who will want to see nothing but their candidates win but I donot tow that line. I rather cheer for the game of democracy and desire to see it operate in Nigeria at the highest levels. So I am glad the PDP has rebounded after the 2015 loss and wish them the best towards the elections. You should for the good of the country. |
I hope Obi gets the Veep nod and the south should support him and the party just as the east suppoted the GEJ presidemcy and have remained loyal to the party subsequently at great cost to the region. As for the PDP, it is time they put their persistently divided house in order. Lagos, Ogun, Oyo are all in tatters, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo are reeling so I cannot see what immediate positive impact they can bring to bear on the fortunes of the PDP and the fact the west is in defacto power is enough to pacify the region in general. |
naijaking1:Fayose is not a good choice. He has scant electoral value and is not a technocrat so Nigeria will suffer that. And when it comes to his records as governor folks like Peter Obi and Donald (if an alliance is possible) performed far better. |
potentialOAU:Shows how much folks yearn for a change. The present government is.clearly underwhelming in its achievements. |
Kenturkey048:Duke is out in the SDP and could only work if there is a merger, but I think Donald is a bit to big to be VP and much too much a politician..The Veep in my opinion should be a technocrat first before a politician. |
linkin8k:Running mate. And I seriously suggest Peter Obu because he is perhaps the best technocrat cum politician out there and has an outstanding track record. |
I think Atiku is the only candidate all the others will be willing to accept in peace. He is the ranking presidential candidate and has been there or there about since 2003. |
Why should one step down for the other. We want a popular contest not an under the table rubber stamp. The PDP cannot afford anything less than proper democracy if it is to survive and thrive. |
freezyprinzy: ...hahahaha, you actually got me. Can't believe I read the whole thing....hahahahaha |
Its over for Mourinho. This is a ship heading for the rocks that this captain simply cannot turn around. United needs new leadership.... |
budusky05:The British royal family has been actively involved in the military since the dark ages. I guess their enemies and inhabitants of lands and territories they conquered will view your report with delight. I guess also the kings, Queens and Princes of all ages from the Egyptians to the Romans were all palace sitting gentlemen or were the kings of the Bini, Oyo, Nok or Songhai empires. My friend, royalty was, is and will ever be about leadership and leadership means getting your hands dirty for the good of your people. The fiercest and bravest will always rule. |
goslowgoslow:If you donot know the difference between a terrorist and a militant, you need to get back to school. In loose terms, one is ideological, the other is not meaning that you can negotiate with one and when you meet him halfway there is peace. He takes no pleasure in violence. The other takes immense pleasure in violence, justifies it, has no limitations, no targets, no allies, no objective and cannot reasoned with and has no exit strategy beyond the grave. Now pay me for the heads up. |
Tolexander:When there is quiet then the nation's treasury is obviously suffeing. Remember your mum's advice... Donot talk while eating.... Buy its all good. They deserve it. They fought for it. |
eshietIntrepid:In Port Harcourt too but they are just a nuisance roaming about and disturbing the public peace with their sirens and reckless vehicular movement. Almost got hit at LNG this morning. |
Because he said those things he should be recalled. What kind of small minded, vindictive government is this that cannot focus on the mandate of governance but is always distracted by childish antics, always looking over its shoulder for who said this and that. No wonder the government oozes with excuses and buck passing. Kindergarten political toddlers behaving like retro pubecent teenagers in front of mirrors. |
Hundreddegrees:Damning photo. Really sad state of affairs now. |
Kwara state is a democratic crypt.... completely dead. Nothing to comment about till the resurrection of the dead.... sorry I meant the ressurection of the people of Kwara. |
