pharmow: I'm a little surprised there are handful of people that don't know who Deinde Fernandez was. Truly there are many kids on Nairaland. In the 1980s and 90s, years before Dangote, Adenuga and Otedola becomes household names synonymous to wealth in Nigeria. The likes of Deinde Fernandez, Harry Akande and MKO Abiola wealth are the type you pray to God to bless you with. This is a man that held ambassadorial positions in many countries around the world, he was a deputy prime minister in a country outside his country of origin, a very highly diplomatic man respected all over the world, we were told he owned a private island, he owned cars that were owned by the royal family, this man defined poshness and classiness of wealth. With reasons best known to him, he didn't do so much on the home front (Nigeria).

My children will not suffer what I suffered because you view the way you took to the top as 'suffering' rather than 'learning', 'training' and lends credence to the fact that most Nigerians view success in monetary rather than in performance, achievement, competence terms, values which are only obtainable through patient, hard, repetitive efforts, which Nigerians unfortunately call suffering.
What the older generation should seek to offer their wards is the capability to be more efficient and thus more productive not less productive. It doesn't lessen the 'suffering' but guarantees better results. That is the essence of education, that is one of the purposes of life.
I have discovered this secret. That as a lion begets a cub and teaches it to do lion stuff and a mosquito begets a mosquito to teaches it to suck blood with increasing efficiency so my children will be taught in my ways and there lies their careers, their future. I want my kids to be a better, more efficient me. I am not a lawyer, banker, educationist or performing artist so my children cannot be those because I cannot lead them to success there and I would be darned to let all the resources, knowledge, experiences go down to the grave with me while I want the kids to start from scratch and depend on others, on society for knowledge, values and competencies, jobs, contacts, resources, etc. That is the real tragedy and is the reason why excellence is alien here and trans-generational enterprises are scarce.
My kids will watch me 'suffer' and learn that it is normal so that when they come of age they will take 'suffering' to a whole new level so that they can be outstanding successes. |

^^ For you asking why APC ddnt deny the groups talking on its behalf, The interviewers asked him the same question and he reminded them on when the party debunked and denied certain groups during the campaigns and the interviewers had nothing more to ask. He told Nigerians to hold the APC by its constitution, it's Manifesto and the Words of PMB. Haters be guaranteed Buhari will not fail. Honestly, with the way you are defending I see you at Stamford Bridge before the window closes midnight tomorrow. |

vimo3: Thank you Kayode for calling Buhari and APC out.
As an APC supporter, I am greatly alarmed at the thought that this may not be a mistake by Buhari. But rather it could be an unfolding of his true colors.
From running a near monarchy (no cabinet), to appointing mostly northerners (because according to APC he is not comfortable with southerners), to denying a much publicized campaign promise document, to making wild corruption allegations (as if we do not have courts and due process and without charging anyone)......
I think there's reason for Nigerians to be very worried about APC administration... But let me ask you this funny question. Is Buhari not tending to the things we want to see happen and done in Nigeria; a leaner executive, reduced overheads, a smaller government, appointments made on merit, a realistic approach to governance and a tough anti-corruption stance. Is the reverse not the key reasons why Jonathan was ejected. You people sef, I honestly don't know what you want and this jumbled crockery is making the task of dishing national development a very messy affair. Please, identify a direction, get a driver to take you there and stick to the route. |

Built2last: Kayode, you have my respect for objectivity any day any time. what makes a man is ability to say the truth no matter how hard it hurts.
i remember when you flew down from UK and hit the streets of Lagos campaigning for PMB.
Its becoming obvious that there is a careful plan to scam us and Gullible supporters will not wear their binoculars of objectivity to call a spade a spade. Sir kay, you are a man.
I have asked the opinion of my Northern friends on what they think about the lopsided appointments of PMB. I asked if they will take it if a Yoruba president appointed all Southerners as kitchen cabinet. the highly enlightened ones told me clearly that their people up north will take to the street to protest or unleash mayhem on southerners if its not addressed. As a supporter of PMB, i questioned his position and few friends called me a wailer. it doesnt matter. i know i never voted PMB or APC because i love them. it is about Nigeria and for that i will speak up when things go wrong. If federal character is skewed to favour the north in Education. Same should apply in all things.
and for the south East that they have left out. they are just fanning the embers of Biafra. To keep this country one, Equity, fairness and good conscience must prevail. You cant keep treating Igbos as outcasts and expect them not to shout Biafra.
I supported PMB against threats and obvious harm, he MUST keep to his promises or get ready for a backlash...This country is bigger than anybody or any region. I better wail OBJECTIVELY and hold leaders accountable than support blindly and before you say Jack. another four years is gone
Nuff said
@Lalasticlala They don't know that true opposition remains the best ally of President Buhari's legacy, afterall it brought him there, while blind sychophancy remains his worst enemy. It leaves a bitter taste and gives a horrendous backhand across the face. |

Meiji: Another reason to push for devolution of powers. I don't understand how one would designate such roads as "federal roads" instead of leaving it for those who feel the pinch of using that road to fix.
Devolve powers so that the Cross River state governor can be held responsible for that road. Structure. Simple. The centre wants to control everything and they know they cannot handle all. Right now FERMA is non existent. No government. |

What about the private sector. Police men guard banks, protect petrol stations, factories, offices, supermarkets, they escort bullion, tankers, truck loads of machinery, bulk cargo, cattle across the middle belt, all sorts.
The answer is simple. An upgrade of private security. Let anyone or any organisation train, equip and deploy its security at its expense. Government provides the authority and legal backing. |

Private banks have started circling round fresh carcass. Soon they will resume devouring the economy via their corruptive tendencies they will initiate these new adminstrators into. In our social studies days the Central Bank was amongst other things termed 'the Government's Bank'. Where did we get it so badly wrong. Of course when corrupt bankers whispered into the ears of corrupt officials that they could earn huge interests on government deposited funds and the rest is history. We should try going back to that. |
