They used to. I could remember we had their number in our phone book and my dad would ask me to dial them up on the defunct Nitel line and believe me within 30 minutes they'd show up to remove fallen tree branches and tripped breakers. After a while they wouldn't come so on a typical sunday afternoon we'ed drive to their complaints office and drag them down. After a while they wouldn't come so we'ed log in our complaints and pay the service charge. After a while they took away the log book so....

phantom: And we are led to believe they are most politically sophisticated tribe in the country.2015 is going to be 'bloody' interesting.
Most what? By what yardstick? By what test? Take nothing away from the west. It has excellent leadership materials but the 'above' is an assumption. We all thought so about the north till OBJ drove a wedge and almost fell over thinking there was hard rock beneath not quick sand.

I think if any political or regional grouping will thrive into the future it will have to withstand viral assaults like this. I sure hope people see reason and consolidate rather than split violently with the passion the BH is exhibiting.

Good leadership does not equate to political sophistication or strength as the best eleven soccer players in the world may not necessarily win the world cup. That's why people with foresight always watch the power balance within groupings and raise eyebrows when it becomes polarised.

The west has too much power woven around individuals. Good investors will always be cautious about this.

farem: Mediocrity is worst than corruption.
The mediocres in their wisdom know nothing to battle the raging opposition only to 'empower' one militant chief. Have they forgotten it was the same way the Boko haram and Mend were 'empower' to fan their selfish desires. Having used and dumped them what do we have now?
With the West, being 'recruited' into the madness, Nigeria is up in flames. Tufiakwa!
So when will you folks agree with me that it is the structure of the country not corruption that is the primodal problem.

It doesn't take rocket science to know that to gather dry brush in harmattan is worse than hoping it doesn't ignite.

We have seen what the GEJ presidency has proven; the north isn't the homogenous all conquering power block we previously thought. Boko Haram is the test strip.

Now the west is facing an all too similar test and extremist groups are emerging/re-emerging. Its all too easy and all too predictable the outcome.

I've said it before and will continue to. "Its the structure stupid".

Katsumoto: Everyone is rioting in Greece today. They didn't think their country would sink with many dodging fair taxes and the government giving expensive pensions. Any country where folks retire at 50 will be bankrupt, especially when Europeans live until 100. And greeks study until their 30s. Work for 20 yrs and then collect pension for 40 years. Who is going to pay for it?
Well the Germans are there to foot the bill as always until they eventually demand Athens become a colony then all hell breaks loose.

I don't care about whether Labour, conservatives, or white/black like me. My position is based on how policies affect me. I don't give a rats ar.se about lazy people who are in a first world country and still expecting govt to do everything for them. They have schools close to home with all the comforts in life but keep complaining while kids in Africa are trekking great distances to get to school. There was a story of a kid in SA who has to cross crocodile infested waters to get to school. And you think I have sympathy for people who want government to buy them playstations?

The government provides free health, free schools, option to buy your home or rent at below market price. The government provides welfare benefits for those who don't work. For single mothers who just want to be loose and have kids. Who is supposed to pay for all that?
He, he, he. I think we should just ship all these folks to Greece where benefits outstrip productivity. Thanks to that lady Britain 'knows' how to get 'itself' out of recessions. It was tough then but it will prove positive in decades to come.

We cannot keep bribing everybody! The daylight robbery that was FG sanctioned in the Niger Delta was the biggest mistake ever made in Nigeria. Has the Amnesty granted to the Niger Delta Militant improved the economy of the Area, NO. Instead these so-called billionaire-militant and millionaire-militant come to Lagos to show off!

We should stop believing we can just throw money at every problem in this country.

Government should instead focus on making Nigeria a better economic and social state. China did not become so large by spending money, they created the enabling environment to tap their biggest resource - WORKFORCE. Nothing stops Nigeria from feeding West Africa.

Women are also better with colors like you said. I am not sure what the reason for this is though I read somewhere that it helped with detecting poisonous fruits and plants (by their colours) while gathering food in the wild. Women mostly gathered food while men hunted.
Is it me but if men did the hunting for any kind of 'meat' why will the women get the bigger nose. Or was there a time gals hunted boys.

I can tell you that Thatcher's arrogance and contempt for the poor led to her demise in 1990 when she was humiliatingly forced out of office following the council tax riots which threatened to tear this country apart.
C'mon. Gordon Brown was equally ejected like a spent shell casing even after kicking the unions to the kerb. No one wants an ungovernable state like France.

Look at the figures. 25 % of EU cash goes to bedding and pillows for farmers that contribute a farthing - 1% of GDP. That's what unions can do to your wallet. Rob the hardworking and enterprising and give to the indolent and their mafioso leadership.

Having a good command of english whether written or spoken is a sign of exposure. With exposure comes values and values naturally generate mastery or the pursuit of excellence. When you have these things in your psyche they overwhelm most other considerations.

For example the use of abbreviations, short hand, slangs and the editing of texts are done with much care rather than being taken for granted. The fear of losing ones command of english is often greater than the savings in terms of bytes, Mb, and Naira.

I don't struggle with spoken or written english. Be it applications, texts or short story lines, one of my favourite pastimes.

As Head of State he only had 20months and he used his short time to cleanse country of corruption and turned economy around
He meant as Head of State. Was Buhari head of state between 76 and 79. Thought it was between Murtala and Obasanjo. And by the way who said corruption abated under his watch. He went against former politicians of the second republic but no sooner had his ministers settled in the menace took off again albeit in a different manner. There were import quota scandals akin to the present subsidy debacle and so on. Quite a number of his key men are billionaires today. Look my friend, lets just say he tried. Corruption is not a fight of a determined man but that of a determined society and from all indications we are not ready yet.

And as for the economy he left it worse than he met it but I can't blame him for that. The combination of bad Shagari era policies and foreign sanctions esp in the wake of the 'crating' of Umaru Dikko did them in.

GenBuhari: 8th January 1984 - The NY Times
Buhari steps up search for all Politicians and Officials who have failed to report to a Police Station.

LAGOS, Nigeria, Jan. 7— Nigeria's new military Government is stepping up searches for former politicians and officials of the civilian Government that was overthrown in a coup a week ago.

The new regime is making television appeals for news of the whereabouts of former officials and other Nigerians who are wanted for questioning and is urging citizens to telephone the police if they have information about those who are being sought.

And a few months later members of his government were asked to report to the nearest military formation when the curtains fell. Some escaped across the border no thanks to briefcases stashed with fx. Some things change while others remain the same.

What if as part of conditions for cease-fire under amnesty BH asks Mr President to step down. What if they ask for the restoration of on-shore/off-shore dichotomy. What if they ask for the end of derivation and a halt to the PIB. You can't do anything cos you've agreed before negotiation the one and only outcome. What if they ask the President to pose nude before live t.v.

On a serious note because these people remain faceless and their only demands so far are considered extreme and unrealistic any grouping can hitch a ride on this amnesty gravy train to demand for anything. And my thoughts are simple. If you can elevate the stakes so high as to ask for the islamization of Nigeria then political issues and concessions will readily be accepted when tabled.

I'm 95% certain this is the end game. This is the Art of War. Those behind this terror group know their game well. The government is showing its hand too early. But they can gain the upper ground if they play their cards right. All might not be lost.
