Gentleman8888: all contributions are appreciated. Including the jokes. The landcruiser I think has the best resale credentials of them all, anyday, anytime. |
That plane came down due to loss of lift. If both engines failed as some claimed 11 miles is easy to glide through but with power gone hydraulic pressure cannot be maintained when the valves cannot be shut off or are leaking. That plane was not good mister. |
If a Mayday is called by the pilot there are only three distinct causatives for a crash - fire/explosion, sudden weather phenomenon or a compromised aircraft. If it was pilot error the captain is unlikely to declare an emergency to save face. The plane hit the ground largely intact and the weather was peachy. Please what is that DANA man talking about. Is he aware that the MD 83's control surfaces are prone to slip when hydraulic pressure is low or he thinks he's talking to nannies. |
blank: Over a stupid blouse? An over what do people tear themselves apart on Nairaland. If only it were possible many will have stabbed themselves here y'know. |
OMO IBO: Was she desperate for marriage??To find out if they courted, check BB servers in yank. |
temmytanny: I DONT think shoul be carried away by this story. Was it engine, mechanical fault that caused the mishap or heavy rain storm. If its rain storm,it can happen to any airline any where in the world, because of poor visibility of the run way by the cabin crew.I am not trying to support AERO but we should be careful about propaganda stories now. If not for DANA,no body would have heard the story of AIRNIGERIA flying dead planes. Funny enough the story came from someone who has worked for them since they started operations. why didnt he complain why he was working for them? NOw that he is sacked and wanted for stealing,he remembers that they are flying dead planes.See trouble oh. Even you too cannot mention the airline in your own experience. Na juju dem take hold una mouth. |
ESUPOFO, meaning the devil has failed. i know a man that gave his child this name. People call him baba esu i.e father of the DEVIL, and call the boy ESU wen they want to bully him. i guess the name is really affecting him because he has some devilish tendencies just last week he broke clinton's leg(my dog)
Hmm, and why diss the name Clinton by naming your pooch. |
One side views it lawfully another in consideration and love. You guys should stop these arguments. Life is not always what is right or wrong but what is endearing as well because we have all erred. No one is perfect. |
ballabriggs: Now you are coming back to your senses. China I know would eventually be a liberal state because they are very intelligent people. However, at this initial stage of development, where citizens are not mature enough to make economic and social decisions, liberalism is a no no. Even in the liberal states today, regulation is being emphasized to guide and protect the economic and social decisions of citizens as the economic and social space becomes more complex. |
PHIPEX: Some Nigerians are very myopic, Let's assume Buhari gets into power in 2015, where will the shooting and killing start? From those who misruled in the 70s and 80s or from the criminals of the current dispensation? Will it be right to kill the new generation criminals while the old crooks go free? Another terrible thing is that when more southerners are killed we will cry ethnic cleancing and I as a Nigerian can't imagine Buhari killing more Northerners than Southerners. Who even determines who should die and who should live, is it Buhari or this same corrupt Judiciary we have. If Buhari wants the well being of Nigeria, he should say something that is feasible under a democratic dispensation and by the way, how many corrupt politician did he kill when he was the president?Thank you. Where are the seeds of anti-corruption planted in 83-85. If we are tired of corruptiom why is it that no one watered it since then. 27 years later they want the same gardner back for another planting season. Then perhaps have him back in another 27 years 2039. What have Nigerians done in his absence from government, nothing. Yet this is the way. |
Where was Babangida during Shagari's regime. Was he a politician or did he occupy political office, no. But when he sensed that people were actively against the Buhari regime, he putsched the man back to Daura solving his personal problems as well. Then the backlash of corruption came in measures that made the Shagari regiment appear as saints. This tells me Nigerians were not ready for change, talk of drug rehab gone bad. We went from corruption snorters to full blown junkies. That is pretense. OBJ had a similitude of anti-corruption. The next regime shut it down. There is always a reason. Anti-corruption will always be viewed with suspicion because it will always be partial because in Nigeria there is always a snag. When you turn a corner you will always make exceptions that will eventually lead to your destruction. This is the problem with all anti-corruption prosecutors since Murtala. They pay the price, Nigerians just move on. That is because the movement was not theirs. It is Nigerians that will build and defend the institutions that will guarantee the standards of life they want when they are ready. |
But if he can expand what he is doing, pick holes in the government and put them under severe moral pressure like a real opposition party and leader in waiting should then he may begin to gain traction. In his position he should have plants in all government MDA and several whistleblowers on his call with cold, hard, indicting facts. But if he is waiting for Nigerians to tire of corruption and turn to him, he has misjudged the situation and become a fossil in waiting. The people I see everyday have other pressing matters and are not ready. |
Kelskelly: Reading all the posts of this thread makes me realize that the biggest problem with Nigeria is it followers, not even leaders. See how the opinions are mostly divided by religious and ethnic lines. very few comments have actually analyzed the true content of his comment. Lets be honest with ourselves with the following...the people responsible for the flying a terminally ill plane called dana, and killing hundreds of Nigerians don't deserve to be shot? the ones that collected all the money for road repairs and hence causing hundreds of lives to be lost on the road daily don't deserve to be shot? or is it the ones that make children in this generation grow up in perpetual darkness.Thank you sir, you are enlightened. Those that wait for a messiah never get saved. Nigerians will decide when they are tired of corruption not Buhari. How many people will he jail and kill before he is removed. He has learnt nothing from 1985 and seen nothing about his former boss in 1995. He thought then the people were on his side. IBB removed him and people clapped. Abacha died and people clapped. The national assembly alone will impeach him and people will clap. For when he begins to crate people the very loud proponents we have today will turn against him when their constituency is affected. How do I know. Fuel cartels - for and against, PPP corruption - for and against, banking reforms - for and against, privatisations - for and against and the list goes on and on. In 84 he stepped on just one of these toes and sealed his fate - the Press. In 2012 corruption is a 1000 times the size it was in 84 and is now a 2 trillion naira industry, the largest in Nigeria affecting every one directly or indirectly. Where will he start and where will it end because half a dozen or six will lead to his own demise on the alter of tribe, religion or agenda. He can't do it. The people are not ready. Revolutions occur when people are fed up and are ready to sacrifice everything and anything - brother, sister, mother, father, pastor, imam, church, mosque, religion, job, income from corrupted sources, etc. Are we ready to pay the higher price even if temporary. If not don't waste the man's time because you will not support him when it really matters. |
dubem3: albeit am taking ur story with a pinch of salt, its touching and i'll tell you the very little i know or think about snoring. But don't you think it could be caused by an abnormal growth in that air passage. I think the guy should have an x-ray. I've heard some have been cured by surgery. That is the very bad cases. It may even reveal some underlying respiratory or cardiovascular ailments. |
IYA NGBALI: trailer or agbegi lodo are the best,i have been using mine for the past 17 yearsHaba, these are not sporty nau except you want a thorough workout of your lower back, calves - from pumping clutch and beefy arms from the steering. For a complete off roader I would recommend a CAT 428. Power steering, adjustable swivel seats, aircon, 360 degree visibility and when you encounter canyons along the highway just dig and fill with the back hoe. My 2 cents. |
Like the violence during and post Prohibition era in the States. It will blow over, after much more bloodshed, after we get absolutely fed up, expressed not just in angry vitriol but in concrete desire for change starting at the mirror. Another waste, yet another sad loss. May his family and friends have the fortitude to bear the vacumn created so tragically and needlessly. |
Saloze: so wat happens to Dana staffs? dat means no more job since d license has bn seized. If it goes south they will lose their jobs just as the bankers that watched their management rob and pilfer their assets. The time of the whistle blower has come. As a worker that sees or assists criminal acts and hides under the guise - I am just a humble labourer. If you don't talk, you'll surely walk. Thanks to cashless banking those fugitives could have transfered their wallet to Delhi while waiting at MMA departure. |
muffins99: New planes are expensive and airlines are not charities so expect to pay more if you want newer planes and this is no guarantee that the planes are accident free. I always say that planes are not like cars that you can park on a layby and call out the mechanic or recovery vehicle; if there's a problem, better pray that it is one that your pilot is skilled enough to handle and that your time on earth is not up.Pally it is not maybe. It is certain those faults on the Alaskan airplanes sold to DANA were never repaired. When I saw pictures of the mangled tail section with the flaps up I knew the plane had stalled and crashed. The pilot must have lost hydraulic pressure as he began to deploy his control surfaces on approach and air pressure forced the flaps into that position where they locked due to the MD 83's notorious valve assembly and since the plane was slowing for landing there was insufficient lift to maintain flight. Bad aircraft, badder airline management. |
Iranoladun: Thanks poster for this wonderful information. I intend to spread the news to my friends and family. You may safe a life with this information.Way to go. That's affirmitive action. If the government wont act the people will vote with their feet. I have told friends and family no MD series. No DC series. No 727. No 737 less than 300 series. These planes are too old, too problematic and too costly to maintain so I don't think our greedy businessmen will maintain them. Me, I don't know and I don,t plan to be climbing rubble to look for body parts. It is that serious. Buyer beware. |
informatix: This is Hoax to Blackmail some carriers.Nah, this is breeze to open some tail feathers. |
Andro Blaze: Did it occur to you that if he is being truthful all he can say is what he witnessed, and we only see what we want to see, not the full picture.Of course I understand what he said he saw. What I mean is that when you read the heading you expect facts not news. The bulk of what he relates are post impact. Really not helpful except to those who are in charge of disaster management not aviation. |
Gbawe: Not at all. It is a safe-guard measure any responsible Government is within its power to utilise if there is even a hint an airline is breaching very strict safety guidelines. Airlines have had their licenses suspended even when a crash has not occurred. What are we then talking about here when a crash has indeed occurred ,taking over 150 lives, with employees of Dana Airline , who will now undoubtedly have supplied more than is put in the public domain, directly talking of negligence that put profit-making above the preservation of human life? I may not be a fan of this Government but they do nothing wrong here and have indeed acted responsibly given that this one incidence of alleged misconduct may not be an isolated one. Other planes run by Dana Airline may indeed be similarly faulty !!!!Thank you. It is not witch hunting DANA. It is protecting the public and restoring confidence in the industry DANA has just shaken. Most of the revelations of misdeeds have come from DANA staff and their associates, so. Moreover the ball is in their court. If they can respond quickly and professionally to investigators and have their fleet checked out, they can be flying in no time with the full confidence of the public in tow. |
nateevs: I disagree with this Gbawe. Suspending their license is an insinuation that the airline is guilty. The suspension is for the purpose of re-certification of its entire fleet. Once suspicions arise that the paper work was bent you start there. And if all your aircraft are under audit, what do you have to fly. If I import a consignment of exploding transformers won't SON check the entire batch before releasing them for sale. The problem is because we lack soft infrastructure in Nigeria. In aviation we are essentially consumers. We have no aerospace industry nor independent experts with technical know how and large archives. A resident doctor in Alaska who has never encountered malaria and probably has no reference materials will panic, possibly quarantine such a patient and most certainly mis-diagnose. To Americans they may not need to suspend licenses because they have an experienced AIB which everyone is confident in. Even then they are always under pressure to ground aircraft when incidents occur. |
Gbawe: "To allow for a free and unfettered investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash of flight #992 in Iju area of Lagos".Concur, particularly as suspicious lie around operational breaches. If a roach is found in your burger the kitchen goes down not just the pack. Moreover several important people will be absent from work a few days answering some very tough questions. |
Thought it will contain useful information about the last moments of the flight that could help establish the cause but like typical Nigerian reportage, short on substance, long on tales. Rubbish. |
BaBa Mike: Well said man! The age of an Airplane has never caused one to crash.the frequency of maintenance or pilot errors are what we should be worrying about. But with our poor maintenance culture it is better to buy new. That was DANA sin. It bought an aircraft model that was so bad it practically shut down the manufacturer from the fleet of an airline that has experienced a crash got fed up and decided to offload its lemons, then you bring it here and refuse to maintain it. If an Ijebu man says 'eww that garri is bitter' how can it be edible to me. |
crackhouse: I have known our countrymen to be always quick to dismiss as false anything that will hinder the progress of their business even if it contains a glaring elements of truth. So i am not surprised to hear this from Air Nigeria. All i know is that, a word is enough for the wise so i am not gonna put my life on the line to be used for experiment.Which kind of business progress is that. I think the maintenance expenses DANA has saved on its fleet will seriously boost its balance sheet this year. |
Arosa: The fate of those who fail to take heed to warning is already sealed.Hmm, musical chairs. The tunes have started. I hope this will lead to a whistle blowing culture. |
1forall: I once worked there and have friends who still do. From what I know/hear I choose to believe John Nnorom.Better talk what you know and save lives. We must begin to develop a culture of propriety that diffrentiates man and beast. Don't mind those who feel the ignorant masses are fodder to feed on. Speak up. It is your duty. |
As I was watching the footage of GEJ's visit I noticed something quite odd on the tail section of that aircraft. The slats were extended which is normal to maintain lift as the plane slows down on approach but surprisingly the flaps on the horizontal stabilizer were banked up which I think should not be until the very last seconds before touch down when you want the nose up to touch the main gear. The implications are quite startling. Could it be that the pilots lost power and tried to keep the nose up while struggling to make the runway?. Could the plane have stalled for whatever reason or could it have been a more familiar MD-83 issue. I googled the problem and was shocked that it is a wide spread issue. Google: 'horizontal stabilizer problems on MD 83's' and see all manner. Pilots complain a lot about its problems. Alaskan Airlines flight 261, Jan 2000. It was reported that the plane experienced a sudden dive eventually traced to a worn jack screw assembly. A very long story but the summary is clear. I wouldn't rule out that the flap was pushed up by such a fault, the nose of the plane rose and the aircraft stalled as it slowed on approach and just fell out of the sky. |
slyfoxxjoe: i still dont get why parachutes are not put on passenger planes! Many reasons make it impractical. I will take just three. Obviously, cost - of developing a safe, practical and reliable way of getting hundreds of passengers of an aircraft in flight. The logistics of training passengers on the safe use of parachutes on a flight by flight basis. Finally, there is overwhelming evidence that the vast majority of air accidents happen within the vicinity of airports either during take-off and more especially during landing in which case the low altitudes donot permit the safe deployment of parachutes. Most high altitude mid flight incidents resulting in total hull losses are usually so sudden and catastrophic leading to virtually no time to escape such as mid air collisions, structural failures, hydraulic failures, ground proximity and terrain incidents. The fact is that modern aircraft are very safe having multiple redundancies so things rarely get out of hand (when you play by the rules of maintenance). The gist is, whatever tragedy will happen to a perfectly maintained airplane is one that will not permit any sort of escape by chute. |
