Ikengawo: I would like to show my appreciation for those that died to make the blessings we have today in Nigeria possible. All the journalists that were killed so that our press can be free. The death of MKO Abiola that showed us once and for all that military dictatorship will NEVER again be an acceptable part of our government. The death on Ken Saro Wiwa that brought light to the suffering of minorities in Nigeria and gave strength to the plight of the suffering voiceless, and a thanks to those whose efforts have made Nigeria's election system fairer and freer. I do acknowledge our system is an immensely imperfect and frustratingly flawed one. I do acknowledge the war is not yet won and I do acknowledge the enemies or our progress are still alive and in power, but I'm not going to pretend that this generation shouldn't be ashamed of the fact that we seem to think saying 'there's no democracy in Nigeria is a fair contribution to a fight for democracy that our predecessors gave their lives for. Their sacrifice has not been in vein. there has been progress and If we can give thanks to and revere their spirit there will be more progress.

We've made more progress then most of our african counter parts and show more promise and will to strike forward than most of the 3rd world.
Good post. Well done. I believe the pains of poverty, disenfranchisement, violence, bigotry, corruption are like the pains of child birth. It is for a set time and has a predictable outcome if handled in strength and hope.

All flourishimg democracies today once had their days of youthful exhuberance and every mighty king today once pooed in his diapers. It happens.

Our democracy will survive. It is bigger than any individual, group or interests. I salute the courage of all leaders and the led in moving this process forward.

I will not say congratulations but...

dianah: PHCN, Our Long Term Joke

I saw this in one of my BB groups, MileHigh Group (and No! its not what you are thinking) and it dawned on me that just like every other failed promises we have been getting , PHCN or NEPA has been a failed project for a very long time! We act like power generation is rocket science!Little wonder why we all think whoever gets us off this perpetual blackout in Nigeria will be a superhero. Obviously none of our leaders, past or present believes in superheroes, so why be something you dont even believe in?

It is amusing the way we keep creating future plans, never thinking the day will come when we have to give account for those promises we make, Our leaders do not even respect us enough to try, neither do they respect themselves enough to keep their own promises. Touche!

I recall a theme song for one of the "failed projects" when I was a kid:

Join us, come with us

We are on our way

Education for all, by the year 2000 ( They never thought 2000 would come that fast.lol)

What a joke! It is 2012 and our education is still a joke, getting worse by the day. We create visions 2010, 2012, 2015, 2020 and of course no one even believes any of those crappy visions, because nothing is ever put in place!
Back to PHCN, am I the only one who noticed that the bills have doubled and the power supply is less? Can someone please shut down PHCN the way NITEL has been shut down, so we can have private coporations who know what power generation is about do their job? because seriously, whenever I have the misfortune of going to PHCN, It becomes even ,more apparent that they have no clue what they are doing.

PHCN/NEPA has been a long term joke, and no one is laughing anymore, so I guess it is about time we called in a new act, what do you think

Ma'am, when I say every day Nepa (yes Nepa) and NNPC remains in government hands is a curse to Nigeria is an understatement. Just imagine if Nitel was still alive.

I tell you, Barth Nnaji and his NIPP are just wasting our time and money. You cannot privatise an integrated system. No one will have and will ever buy Nitel. No one will buy Nepa. No one will buy your refineries except criminals.

If Murtala, Obj, Shagari, Buhari, IBB and others had the vision and integrity then to do what was ultimately inevitable, Nigeria will have gone much further.

But the worst thing is that we, ordinary Nigerians that have witnessed the failings of one regime after the other have continued to hang on and insist government remains in business.

Can you imagine if air transport, health care, shipping, fertilizer, construction, education were exclusively the preserve of government because they once were.

When we say we have a fundamental problem in Nigeria it means all Nigerians, in power, in servitude, at home, abroad are involved in making this country what it is.

Is there any argument for progress that is not partitioned in sectionalism, bigotry and other anti-social vices promoted by those home and abroad.

Financially speaking is there any wealthy Nigerian that is not castigated, now we turn to the poor to hound them too.

We have serious issues as Nigerians and it has little to do with wealth, status or aspiration and in my opinion whether home or abroad Nigerians are the same, wonderfully individualistic, collectively hopeless. Just check out everyday posts.

Its a very complex issue. Though I like the new names and potentials I see in the team. It mirrors Westerhoff's moves in 89 going forward, however, honestly I can't see daylight between Keshi and Siasia's competencies and to this end we have lost time rebuilding the team. I don't expect much in the next three years.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Abramovich To Hand Roberto Di Matteo One-year Chelsea Deal by Reference(m): 9:38am On May 24, 2012
The team that plays the closest thing to the Barca style in England is Arsenal. Clearly they have not won the UCL and the EPL in ages because they lack the player quality in sufficient numbers to execute this tactic and without a plan B Wenger is often stranded.

RDM had seen that his best players were over thirty so why play tippy tap or attack madly. Is it Drogba that will drive the ball 50 yards or Lampard that will take on 3 defenders. But Drogba doesn't need 3 shots on goal to score. Lampard needs only 1 good pass. That is experience. So what do you do with the rest of your time. Defend of course and wait for mistakes. That is smart. That is tactics. RDM did it five times against Pool, Barca, Napoli and Bayern. How can that be luck.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Abramovich To Hand Roberto Di Matteo One-year Chelsea Deal by Reference(m): 9:20am On May 24, 2012
pro01: Na wa oh. I understand people tend to get carried away by the euphoria of victory and success, and then forget the details of how such victories were achieved. If I may ask, was it part of Di Matteo's "tactics" that Barca would hit the post twice in the first leg at the Stamford Bridge, and then hit the post thrice in the second leg? Was it also part of the tactical script that Messi, of all people, and Robben, would both miss penalties that would have sealed our fate? Was it part of tactics that Barca, Liverpool, and Bayern would lose a plethora of chances, including one that perhaps crossed the goal line (in the FA cup final) but was overlooked?

The tactics were indeed woeful, not necessarily because of it's sheer ugliness, but because it was defective and designed to depend on luck more than efficiency. A more effective form of the same tactic was masterfully used by Mourinho's Inter Milan in their treble winning season last two years. Although Barca outplayed Inter, they didn't create many chances - that is the ultimate aim of a containment tactic - to suffocate the superior attacking team and prevent them from creating chances! Not to allow them create uncountable chances and hope that they fail to convert the chances (and penalties)! How on earth can you call that "tactics"? If Messi had scored that penalty and made it 3-1, we would have been forced to attack, thereby exposing our 'yansh' at the rear. . . and then the game might have ended 5-1 or more.

I believe so much in destiny. Chelsea were destined to excel this year, against all odds. It was written in the stars. Simple. There is no logical or rational way of explaining our miraculous triumphs in spite of so many near-death moments, other than to attribute everything to divine intervention - rather than tactics. Which kind tactics be that?? As such, we can't be sure of Di Matteo's abilities until he spends one full season in charge, without the notoriously promiscuous Lady Luck by his side. Let's not make it look like it is his right to get a longer contract; that is the privilege and prerogative of the owner, Abramovich, who has rewarded Di Matteo enough by giving him a bonus of £1m for the UCL win as well as a one year contract. Is that not fair enough? ? ?
No Sir, the end product determines the efficiency and superiority of team tactics in any sport or confrontation for that matter.

The Italians of which RDM is one are well known for this type of play. They beat brazil famously in 82 and France more recently. Why every team must play like Brazil or Barcelona beats me. The beauty of football that athletics doesn't have is diversity.

And for goodness sake with the exception of Mata who else is a ball jugler and speed passer in that team, none. The team is just not like that. The quality which RDM had was playing to the strengths of his assets which AVB failed to do.

Lampard will never be a Messi, Xavi or Fabregas, neither will Mata, Mikel, or the others.

You guys take it easy. What is all this 'my daddy's car is bigger than yours'. There's no dispute here because in football you're only as good as your last game and your achievements will only be weighed when your time is up. That's why Messi at 24 may not be the best player ever because time is running out to catch Pele in the World Cup race. That is settled. Every other argument as to the best coach, best club, etc are very much open. Who says Pep at 41? can't win trophies in 5 different countries. Who says Jose can't win the treble back to back in Spain.

If Pep says he needs a rest, if Jose says he's the best, its their personal opinion.

The Presidency should do no such thing. They should thoroughly mess up the Judiciary so that they begin to see themselves as equal partners and not subservient to the Executive. The Legislature (at least the Lower Chamber) is already extricating from the Executive while the NJC is playing party politics.

How does anyone ever expect the Executive to build the Judiciary. It won't happen. Or is it the State judiciary that is independent. Or will the British have fought for Nigeria's independence. No way.

If the Judiciary wants to become an institution it should steer clear of politics, the Executive and act as a check to our democracy.

Nigerian institutions will be built by conflict because we cannot seem to keep corruption out of consensus. Let them suffer.

Alhaji should permit the DPP offer and ask the courts to get his money back because this crime goes far beyond both parties. It has damaged trust, damaged this forum, damaged the auto sales business and is damaging our reputation as a people. But the worst damage is the impunity such levity is causing when we continue to treat crime as a family affair whether in the public or private sector.
