Very long but interesting read. I just pray that one day we will not wake up and discover that a Nigerian politician has succeeded in selling the country to aliens from mars |
dayokanu: So Na Honda Accord 2003 model a 10yr old base model not even luxury e.g Acura, infiniti, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc be exotic car?I think we should concern ourselves with the allegations of corruption and neglect of the people who voted her in as their representative rather the value of the said cars. Have we become so inured to corruption that stories like this no longer bother us as Nigerians? Most of the comments I have read on this thread almost totally ignored the crux of the story, focusing instead on banalities like whether the cars are exotic or not. Na wah o! |
A 21 year old CHILD with 5 kids of her own!!! How sad... |
Okija juju: 600 million?!I thought I was the only one that found this story implausible...much like the tale about the arrest of 120 BH members at a funeral earlier today... Waiter abeg pass me glass make I fifty this man star abeg! I can't shout! |
So 120 potential suicide bombers stood by and allowed themselves to be arrested? Kinda hard to believe. But na wetin una tell us naim we go believe. Weldone to the boys. |
The success of the JTF's campaign is still too early to assess. The only reports we hear about the operation are the ones released by the JTF's high command and they have told us they are in it for the long haul. When they declare the entire exercise a success and the smoke settles, we will then know for sure if BH has been dealt the much needed death blow. With the reported success recorded from the campaigns so far, one can only begin to wonder why the FG let the BH scourge drag on for so long. |
I know that the Nigerian Airforce has a few Chengdu F-7 jet fighters. I heard rumors of a couple of non- functional drones at the Benin airport but don't know how true. |
otokx: Straight 5 working days and there is no NEPA in University of Port Harcourt.Otokx does Uniport fall under any of the categories below: - those who use the revived rail transport system - those who travel along the improving federal roads - the winners of the first and second editions of YOUWIN - the beneficiaries of the Graduate Internship scheme - the 5,000 people per state who are beneficiaries of the SURE-P women and youth empowerment scheme - the pregnant women who are beneficiaries of the SURE-P maternal health intervention programme - the non-academic and academic staff in the BRAND NEW 9 federal universities - the farmers that are now receiving subsidized fertilizers and improved seeds - the pioneer students of the 9 new federal universities - those who travel by air and use the Airports frequently - those who voted for the FIRST TIME in their life and saw their vote count - etc, etc If it doesn't, then you are not among Sincerenigerian's "real people on ground" and you won't have power until you join them... ![]() |
Truckpusher: Where are the pictures of the raided camp?Well said! |
Soso990240: na dope de worry u.u said state of emergency aint gud enuf..sugest smthng 4 us or get d fucck out.go read more about state of emergency..u dnt hav any slight knowledge or experience of wot it is like.I have a few choice adjectives to describe you with...but I will not descend to your level. So I will pretend I did not see the insults and respond to the saner aspects of your drivel. No one here has said that the situation in the North does not deserve a drastic measure. What some of us are saying that this here "drastic measure" announced by the President is just an expansion of the same drastic measure that has been in place for several years now and has borne no fruits. Why is that so difficult for people to understand? The truth though bitter is simple: this SOE will not achieve the desired result if all it translates to is shipping more soldiers and ordinances to the affected region and intensifying military action against BH. That is just more of the old strategy. To then posit that this SOE is the ONLY way forward is to insult the collective intelligence of over 170 million Nigerians. In 6 months time the SOE will be up for review and possible extension. I pray that at that time, I will be proved wrong and somehow, peace would have returned to the North by its instrumentality. |
Permit me to reproduce the President's speech below: PRESIDENT GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, GCFR ON THE DECLARATION OF A STATE OF EMERGENCY IN BORNO, YOBE AND ADAMAWA STATES IN ORDER TO RESTORE PUBLIC ORDER, PUBLIC SAFETY AND SECURITY IN THE AFFECTED STATES OF THE FEDERATION MAY 14, 2013 Dear compatriots, 1.It has become necessary for me to address you on the recent spate of terrorist activities and protracted security challenges in some parts of the country, particularly in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Plateau and most recently Bayelsa, Taraba, Benue and Nasarawa states. These unfortunate events have led to needless loss of lives and property of many innocent Nigerians including members of our security forces. 2.The recent killing of security operatives by a cult group in Nasarawa state is particularly condemnable. I have directed that no effort or expense be spared in identifying and bringing to justice all those who had a hand in the killing of the operatives. 3.The activities of insurgents and terrorists have been reprehensible, causing fear among our citizens and a near-breakdown of law and order in parts of the country, especially the North. We have taken robust steps to unravel and address the root causes of these crises, but it would appear that there is a systematic effort by insurgents and terrorists to destabilize the Nigerian state and test our collective resolve. 4.Since I returned to the country after cutting short my visit to South Africa and aborting a planned state visit to Namibia, I have received detailed briefings from our security agencies. These briefings indicate that what we are facing is not just militancy or criminality, but a rebellion and insurgency by terrorist groups which pose a very serious threat to national unity and territorial integrity. Already, some northern parts of Borno state have been taken over by groups whose allegiance is to different flags and ideologies. 5.These terrorists and insurgents seem determined to establish control and authority over parts of our beloved nation and to progressively overwhelm the rest of the country. In many places, they have destroyed the Nigerian flag and other symbols of state authority and in their place, hoisted strange flags suggesting the exercise of alternative sovereignty. 6.They have attacked government buildings and facilities. They have murdered innocent citizens and state officials. They have set houses ablaze, and taken women and children as hostages. These actions amount to a declaration of war and a deliberate attempt to undermine the authority of the Nigerian state and threaten her territorial integrity. As a responsible government, we will not tolerate this. 7.Previously, we adopted a multi-track approach to the resolution of this problem through actions which included persuasion, dialogue and widespread consultation with the political, religious and community leaders in the affected states. Seems like he is about to announce a new strategy different from what was on ground right? 8.We exercised restraint to allow for all efforts by both State Governors and well-meaning Nigerians to stop the repeated cases of mindless violence. 9.Yet, the insurgents and terrorists seek to prevent government from fulfilling its constitutional obligations to the people as they pursue their fanatical agenda of mayhem, mass murder, division and separatism. 10.While the efforts at persuasion and dialogue will continue, let me reiterate that we have a sacred duty to ensure the security and well-being of all our people and protect the sovereign integrity of our country. Therefore, we shall, on no account, shy away from doing whatever becomes necessary to provide the fullest possible security for the citizens of this country in any part of the country they choose to reside. Please note... 11.We have a duty to stand firm against those who threaten the sovereign integrity of the Nigerian state. Our will is strong, because our faith lies in the indivisibility of Nigeria. 12.Following recent developments in the affected states, it has become necessary for Government to take extraordinary measures to restore normalcy. After wide consultations, and in exercise of the powers conferred on me by the provisions of Section 305, sub-section 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I hereby declare a State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. I thought that was why a JTF was set up and deployed ab initio. But wait, he is about to give us details of the SOE... 13. Accordingly, the Chief of Defence Staff has been directed to immediately deploy more troops to these states for more effective internal security operations. The troops and other security agencies involved in these operations have orders to take all necessary action, within the ambit of their rules of engagement, to put an end to the impunity of insurgents and terrorists. But that is the same operational structure with the JTF on ground isn't it? 14. This will include the authority to arrest and detain suspects, the taking of possession and control of any building or structure used for terrorist purposes, the lock-down of any area of terrorist operation, the conduct of searches, and the apprehension of persons in illegal possession of weapons. Isn't that the same mandate given to the JTF Please correct me if I am wrong...15.The details of this Proclamation will be transmitted to the National Assembly in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. But in the meantime, let me make it clear that within the purview of this Proclamation, the Governors and other political office holders in the affected states will continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities. Ahhhh! At last! Something new...the National Assembly was not involved with approving the operations of the old JTF...or weren't they? 16. I urge the political leadership in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states to co-operate maximally with the Armed Forces and the Police to ensure that the exercise succeeds. We call on the citizenry to co-operate with our security agencies to ensure a return to normalcy within the shortest possible time. 17.I am again approaching our neighbouring countries, through diplomatic channels, as done in the recent past, for their co-operation in apprehending any terrorist elements that may escape across the border. 18.Nigerians are peace-loving people; these sad events perpetrated by those who do not wish our nation well have not changed the essential character of our people. 19. I want to reassure you all that those who are directly or indirectly encouraging any form of rebellion against the Nigerian state, and their collaborators; those insurgents and terrorists who take delight in killing our security operatives, whoever they may be, wherever they may go, we will hunt them down, we will fish them out, and we will bring them to justice. No matter what it takes, we will win this war against terror. 20.I am convinced that with your support and prayers, we shall overcome these challenges and together, we will restore every part of our country to the path of peace, growth and development. ...and so on and so forth... So beyond our tough looking President announcing the transmogrification of the old and largely ineffectual JTF to this new SOE-compliant JTF, what else is new ![]() |
gboss4sure: And i keep asking you, what is the solution to boko haram seeing they have rejected amnesty, Just give is a solution and stop ranting nonsense. i will be glad to forward your solution to the authorities.Say we go with the SOE as declared, how does it change the situation on ground? I mean like, beyond giving it a high fallutin name like "State of Emergency" and increasing the number of soldiers on ground in the affected states, how is this move radically different from the former strategy? If you ask me, this pronouncement is nothing but an expansion of the already existing JTF. I do not think any of the governors of the affected states has had a say in the security arrangement of their states in recent months. The JTF takes instructions from Abuja and not from the governors. The new military coordinators of the state will still take instructions from Abuja. So I ask again, what exactly has changed pre and post SOE? |
slimghost: Sure it is as long as the money gotten from it is distributed equally. care to explain why the North controls 85% of the oil blocks?85% of Nigeria's oil is not controlled by the North! 100% of Nigerian oil is controlled by the federal government of Nigeria with a man from the South as the current helmsman! States in the South-South or oil-producing States as they are called, get the lion share of resources derived by the federal government from the sale of Nigerian oil! Bayelsa State gets one of the highest share of these funds from "our oyel" and is still one of the least developed States in Nigeria. Would you blame the Northerners for that too? |
kokoA: Northern Nigeria! Where the real christians live, not some prosperity seeking bunch of church goers in the south. Going for sunday service alone up not is putting your life at great risk, yet these fellows persists. Their prayers will be answered in due time.Yes! Real Christians who gather and defiantly sing praises to their God every Sunday amidst the pile of rubble and ashes that was their church. Not the types who are here down south sitting in the comfort of their homes, sipping from a bottle of coke and beating the drums of war here on Nairaland. |
I'm still wondering what this pseudo-emergency will do to quickly bring the upheaval in the north to a halt. But these are yet early days... |
krendo: you can abuse me all you like but in 2015 the people of Lagos will question why only a certain religion produce the Governors in Lagos. It is a legitimate political question to ask. There is no need being abusive about it.My friend you are just chasing shadows! Religion has never and will never be a factor to consider in Lagos politics. All we are interested in is someone who will deliver on political promises made. It may interest you to know that both Fashola and Tinubu are married to practicing Christian women and have had absolutely no issues with the Christian population in Lagos. Do yourself a favour and lose this bias. |
McKren: I think the OP is asking a good question...and the OP's handle is "KRENdo" while yours just happens to be "mcKREN" abi? Be there responding to yourself with your multiple IDs. Make Seun catch you you go know how far ![]() |
That's the reason why you called another mother's child a dog/baboon? Most f these children are innocent bystanders, offspring of their oppressed society.
You are wasting your time. The OP and so many other nairalanders are damaged goods...simply beyond redemption... |
What a tragedy ![]() This is the kind of occurrence that should teach our security forces to adopt strategic planning and execution of this kind of operation instead of the usual brutal show of force that they have come to be known for. If the accounts of the massacre are true, one can only wonder why 12 truckloads of MOPOLS were deployed to arrest one man. How did they think that a manoeuvre of such magnitude will not attract undue attention and alert the would-be culprit they intended to arrest? What was the plan exactly; march 100 armed men into a village and expect that there would be no civilian casualties as usual? The way I see it, this was a poorly planned manoeuvre that led to the death of these policemen and whoever authorized their deployment should be held responsible. God bless the dead ![]() |
Weak and lame reply. You only used this to attack his consolidation policy. You need to shut up Mallam.
You must have read only the last 3 paragraphs to come to that conclusion. |
Billyonaire: There was no clash at any point, I watched The Stream, but I am very sure this OP hasnt watched it.There was an altercation between Sowore and Okupe at a point towards the end of the programme. If you had watched the programme as you claimed, you wouldn't have missed it. |
Point B, I may disappoint you with my reply, but I have always believed in the saying that what is source for the Igbo man, should not be poison to the Hausa or Yoruba man. In your righteous exultation, you have forgotten that the Hausa man will always come up with the arguement that It was an Igbo man, Nzeogwu, who first introduced coup in Nigeria. Did you ever stop to think how the other people felt when a fellow soldier(s) took up arms and went to kill both civilians and Other Soldiers in the wake of the first coup in Nigeria. You are entitled to your opinion of Buhari being a muderer and should not try to foist your views on other Igbos and/or try to make theem feel guilt for supporting Buhari and his Ideologies. By the way am Igbo and will defend the Igbo course, but I will not foolishly think that the events of the 60's especially the era of Coup and blood letting leading to the civil war, will make me emotionally blackmail. Until Buhari is tried by a competent court of Justice, he still remains Innocent of all the accusations you levelled against him.
Hear! hear! *Applause* |
frosbel: There can be no compromise with this doctrine of demons , because that is exactly what this tithe LIE is.You are barking up the wrong tree my friend! There are souls perishing while you and your ilk stir up a revolution about tithing or no tithing. Like I stated earlier, tithing will neither help a non-believer make heaven nor throw a believer off-track if he is already on his way to heaven. Focus your energy on a revolution that will shake hell to its foundation by bringing the knowledge of living life in the Spirit by Christ Jesus to the unsaved. To each his own till the return of Christ ![]() |
The truth is that this debate about tithes will never end until Jesus comes. I read the article and it did not present any new arguments against the paying of tithes...just recycled the same arguments and pieces of scripture that have been used over the decades. No one is going to hell for not paying tithes...so anyone that preaches that as a way of arm twisting their church members into paying tithes is preaching heresy. There is absolutely no compulsion in paying tithes and freewill offerings...there is no compulsion in salvation. I pay my tithes because it is my personal conviction and not because some pastor somewhere told me to. As a matter of fact, I pay more than the stipulated 10 per cent and I am not about to stop because of a really long academic treatise of the subject matter. If you are not convinced tithes are scriptural, do not pay...period!!! If your pastor's constant reminder asking you to pay upsets you and makes you uncomfortable, leave the church and go where you wont be reminded. To each his own until the return of Christ. ![]() |
The question I keep asking is what people like this hope to gain with this earth-shaking revelations! So you are gay...fine. You have probably been with guys on the down low all these while with no one bothering you. Why come out with this now and ruin everything? Basketball is a contact sport and as much as I respect your desire to be gay, I definitely would not feel comfortable with this guy close marking me on the court ![]() |
A vessel that size couldn't have just disappeared from the quay with no activity and clearance from the appropriate authorities, especially since it was berthed next to a military location. Besides the craft itself is not powered i.e. it does not have its own engines. So to move it, you would need at least two tug boats. A manoeuvre like that will definitely create a buzz. Methinks the owners or promoters of the business came to move it for repairs and deployment to a more profitable location in Nigeria or elsewhere. |
Nigerians now enjoy 16 hours of light per day ? In satellite town, Ojo, Lagos, we are lucky if we get 6 hours per month. Do we need to change our surnames to Jonathan before we get tbis "16 hours per day" miracle![]() |
Very good move by the senate. I hope this bill receives expedited attention. |
nabiz: they say buhari if elected.as a president will fight corruption and make nigeria a heave like, my question is what has his party done in nassarawa state? let him use nassarawa state to show nigeria nigerians how he will rule nigeriaBuhari is not the governor of Nassarawa State. He is also not the chairman of CPC or holding any executive post within the party. He is a MEMBER of the party who also happens to be their presidential flag bearer. I do not see how the performance of the state governor or a lack there off, can give you insight into how Buhari will rule Nigeria. |
slimghost: Al Makura should be about one of the worst Governors in Nigeria presently. Dude is doing nothing.Errr...and you know this because you are an indigene of Nassarawa State or you presently live there right? If you do, please shed more light on some of the things he is currently not doing right. if you do not live there and haven't visited the state recently, shame on you for putting up this kind of comment! |
Motorists and concerned citizens have always stressed the need for immediate intervention on the road, without any hope in sight. What is even more worrisome is the declaration by the state government which ruled out possibility of any palliative on the road since there is an unending rehabilitation and expansion project being undertaken in collaboration with World Bank. This involves a 10 lane carriageway that will incorporate Light Rail Transport, LRT, on the median and also the Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, system. Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure,Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, in his recent comment during the 2013 ministerial briefing on the activities of his ministry as well as marking the sixth year of Governor Babatunde Fashola’s administration, accused the Federal Government of owing the state government N51 billion spent over the years for the rehabilitation of federal roads. When his attention was called to the plights of motorists and residents on Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Hamzat, emphatically, ruled out any form of assistance from the state government, saying, there was no budget for such in the fiscal allocation. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/04/lagos-badagry-expressway-unending-reconstruction-unending-agony/
Seems to me like the writer is actually indicting the federal government for failing to patch the roads especially in areas on the road not yet reached by the expansion project. The commissioner only turned down an appeal to help the FG fix the road (as usual) because the FG has refused to reimburse the State for similar interventions in the past. Are you sure you read this post before posting or did you just read the headline and decided it would be a good one to ridicule the LASG with? |
I reside in Satellite town and use the said road to and from work on the Island everyday. The work on that road is moving on at an impressive rate. Work has gotten up to Agboju but is been slowed down by the very swampy terrain of that area. There is however, no day I go to work and return without noticing progress on the road. The engineers are fully on site so I do not know why the OP is dramatizing. As usual with road construction projects anywhere in the world, there will be traffic glitches here and there owing to diversions and feeder road blockages...nothing new there. The hold-up coming from the Badagry/Agbara axis on the road is usually from volks bus stop to Agric bus stop. It never gets to Abule - Ado not to talk of Alakija. The expansion project has not gotten to those locations yet. Essentially, it is originally a federal government road so why don't you encourage FERMA to go fix the bad portions for now pending when the expansion work will get there? BTW, OP we are still suffering a near zero supply of power in Satellite town...can you help us? |
