Christianity Etc › Re: Give Your 'Tithes' And Offerings To The Less Fortunate In Church by Reptyle(m): 7:09pm On Mar 03, 2013
This is such an academic argument with both the pro and anti tithe Christians focusing solely on winning an argument on Nairaland. If you think tithing is wrong, what makes you think your puerile arguments and your claim to superior knowledge of the words of Christ can stop a trend that has spanned the ages since the beginning of Christianity? I mean, if I am a tithe payer, am I supposed to stop paying now just because a few people on Nairaland quote scriptures and try to foist their largely academic understanding on me? Where then lies my faith and belief in the holy spirit?

And to you pro tithe paying Christian, where is it written in your Bible that you should contend with people who do not believe in your principles? Did Jesus contend with the Pharisees who obviously had their own knowledge of the laws of Moses and chose to hold on firmly to it? Did he not always tell them that he had not come in opposition to the law but rather to fulfill it? Does that kind of a man strike you like someone who would hold this kind of silly argument like y'all are having here on Nairaland.

Both sides are presenting points and ascribing interpretations to the same verses of scripture as they deem fit...you are winning arguments and throwing barbs and jibes at each other with some even laying claim to some divine assignment to put tithe collecting pastors "out of business." in the midst of all this, you expose the faith to ridicule yet we expect non believers to take us serious when we go ministering to them and asking them to accept Christ?

Let us live our lives like Christ lived and eschew this kind of discussions that serve no other purpose but further divide the body of Christ. Pay tithes if it is convenient for you and in line with your beliefs...with hold your tithes or decide to share it to the widows and orphans if you so choose. If God has a need, he will raise one to meet it. The church of Christ will continue to march on and the gates of hell shall not prevail.

Let him go and see the Nigerians who live in Borno, Yobe and other such Nigerian States where radical Islamists are bombing and killing innocent Nigerians.

FreeGlobe: I don't like when dubious characters with an IQ of a lizard quote my post. Here is the quote retardeen.

" In a stunning mission conducted under enormous secrecy,[\b] President Bush flew into Baghdad today aboard Air Force One to have dinner with United States officials and a group of astonished American troops."

You left out the enormous Secrecy in your quote for obvious reasons fool. It wasn't even at the heat of the war meanwhile Sambo visited Maidugri so whats the big deal

http://scannewsnigeria.com/news/sambo-defies-boko-haram-visits-borno-says-jonathan-administration-committed-to-total-peace-in-borno-state/
You really need to stop pushing this harebrained excuse for the President's failure to show compassion to the people of Borno. Bush paid a visit to Iraq in "enormous secrecy." Let our President also pay an unscheduled visit to Borno in utmost secrecy.

Only a few days ago, the new Governor of Kaduna State paid a visit to Zangon Kataf amidst heightened security concerns stemming from the recent killings of some southern Kaduna Christians. The visit was top secret and was done with absolutely no fanfare so as not to attract undue attention. Amidst tight security, with no prior announcement and without sirens, the Muslim governor visited each of the bereaved families and consoled them. Most of them expressed shock and surprise at the visit and were genuinely touched with his compassion.

Inspite of the security situation in Borno, it is home to millions of NIGERIANS who are suffering under the yoke of Islamic extremists and often over zealous and trigger happy government troops. Mr. Jonathan owes them leadership and empathy at a time like this. Pls tell him to visit them...they are Nigerians too.

semidaraeb: What is the meaning of this?? walking down an empty street with so much security that if a lizard jumps out of a hole the security team will open fire on the lizard.

Dont you people think the entire area is cordonered off already by the security personnel.

Why dont they walk on the street without their security personnel and see what will happen.

Not impressed one bit, more like exchanging one devil for the other.
Are you serious? If it was so easy to walk the streets of Maiduguri with a retinue of armed security as these Governors have done, Why does the President and "Commander in Chief" of the Nigerian armed forces not try it? Surely with absolute control over the armed forces, he can command all of the forces to volunteer deploy their best men and ordinances to Borno to guarantee his security while he visits and commiserates with indigenes of the state right?

The President's refusal to visit Borno for whatever reason will continue to haunt his administration and remain a sore point. There is absolutely no justification for that.

Tolexander: where are the loot(good) governance team(labaran maku and co) to go and also try this same exercise done by the APC governors?
Cos i have never heard them going to maiduguri to examine the federal and state project there.
I was just about to ask the same thing.

Maku and his fellow tourists visited Edo State though Governor Oshiomole said he wanted no part in the tour.

The Borno Governor has also asked the tourists to stay away from his State. Are they also going to disregard him and visit Borno? Or are there no "good governance projects" to inspect in Borno?

Politics › Re: GEJ For 2015, Your Opinion...? by Reptyle(m): 10:26pm On Feb 24, 2013
I did not vote for GEJ during the last elections because I did not think then that he had the capacity to champion the radical change we require as a country. Sadly, with the coming elections, my opinion of him has not changed. Consequently, as it stands now, Mr. Jonathan will not be getting my vote in the next elections. But then again, 2015 is still a while away...perhaps there will be moves to redeem himself before then. I pray he pulls a "super eagle" on us all.
Politics › Re: Breaking News: Good Governance Tour Team Storm Edo; Gov Oshiomole Snubs Team by Reptyle(m): 9:54pm On Feb 24, 2013
Good on you Governor Oshiomole...good on you...

This silly and pointless tour is nothing but a fund raising tour for the politicians and journalists that are part of the team.

Senator Smart Adeyemi during his tenure as President of the NUJ led a similar tour in 2003 handing out awards and trophies to largely non-performing governors across the country. I remember how he led his team to my state, Kogi, and handed out an award to then Governor Abubakar Audu even though he (Adeyemi) is from the state and knew that the state was (and still is) one of the most backwards state development wise. Needless to say that by the end of his tenure, he had amassed enough wealth to contest and win an election into the senate.

Now Maku is leading his own team of journalists on another tour visiting governors and collecting contributions. After this, they will buy big cars, build big houses and contest elections into various offices and the cycle will continue.

I hear the Borno State governor has also warned the "tourists" to stay away from his state. I hope other governors ignore these jokers.

Satellite Town, Ojo, Lagos...No flash of light in the last 4 days. Even when we have, we do an average of 2 to 3 hours every 2 days and it is usually at a very odd hour when one can't go out to change over. (some of us don't have security men that can help us with that grin)

The situation is really BAD!!!

Sports › Re: They Would Have Contributed To Nigeria Glory by Reptyle(m): 11:13am On Feb 11, 2013
Sadly, it is responses like what most of us have posted on this thread that make for the lack of commitment shown by some professionals while on duty for Nigeria. We forget that they are human and prone to the same kind of pressure that makes us misbehave sometimes.

They make one mistake and we forget times when they gave their best and we commit them to the dung heap of history. I remember the time when Osaze and Obagoal were the toast of Nigerians for their passion on the field. Today no one remembers that. They became big stars and they became cocky.

Someday, this same Emenike will move to the big league and get swollen-headed and silly. Then we will also condemn him and disdain the commitment he and other members of the team showed at AFCON 2013. We did it to Oliseh and his boys; we are doing it to Yobo, Ike Uche, Osaze, Taiye Taiwo and the rest of them that "we no longer need." We will do it to Emenike, Victor Moses and the rest of them...its only a matter of time.

That is why these heroes will continue to put their personal interests before the country's.

Josh316: The irony is that this team could go on to eventually win the trophy funny enough...
I agree that could happen...only if they stay consistent with their quality against CIV. Honestly, while that was a pleasant surprise, that match marked the last time we would be going into any match in this competition rated as underdogs. Our boys also know that and I pray it wont make them cocky and complacent against Mali so we don't end up crying tomorrow.

If they have a team psychologist, now is the time for him to earn his pay. If the Eagles can approach all the remaining matches with the zest we saw against CIV, there is no team in this competition that can stop them from lifting the trophy.

Be honest with yourself and tell me if you genuinely expected the Eagles to improve their game against CIV after 3 consecutive poor performances against weaker opposition. Their performance against CIV was a pleasant surprise and I was one of those who gladly ate my words after that match.
Watched the darn thing live yesternight on CNN

Why would CNN choose some retards to film?! That Okoko Yoruba girl was just speaking fhune (with 'How' being pronounced as 'ow') and she was overly excited to be filmed by CNN. She even claimed they had 4 generators at home.

IMO, Light situation in my area has improved from the norm. I havent had need to put on my generator at night in over a month. I have an inverter but between the Inverter and NEPA light, I always have power all night when I am home. Infact, at night, if the light goes out, its always turned back on in under 30 minutes..

I actually have 4 generators at home...plus one inverter. I do not want to believe that the few of you who are excited about the regularity in power supply are lying. But the truth for some of us is that majority of Nigerians are in darkness for the larger part of the day.

Anyone who lives in Satellite Town and environs in Lagos can testify that electricity is a scarce commodity in that area. My generators are overworked and I spend a premium on petrol every month.

So you cannot blame people who like me, felt insulted by the President's boastful claim on CNN about how the average Lagosian is happy about electricity. Next time, let him present the statistics as they are and allow CNN or whosoever wants to know make their deductions about progress in the sector or a lack thereof. The President's media handlers need to coach him on responding to questions objectively and honestly.
