Incidentally, The Punch newspaper carried a similar story with a different rider: http://www.punchng.com/news/police-confirm-attack-on-oshiomholes-convoy/ Guess the police are trying to say that there was an attack on the convoy indeed, but it wasn't executed by PDP thugs as claimed by the governor. |
meksroland: Just that PDP has a bad name, but that charles is more foresighted than Oshomole. Edo is loosing Fed govt touch cos Oshomole talks too muchHow much federal government touch did Edo have under the PDP? |
Someone please tell Mr. President that the "best 20 power supplying nations" have all been taken. Let him try "best 2000" |
Beaf: Bama masterminded the bombing of the UN building, police headquarters, Madalla church etc.Bros exactly how many masterminds did the UN building tragedy have? http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/09/un-house-blast-sss-places-n25m-reward-on-mamman-nur/ Anyway like someone else has mentioned, thank God say no be escape story dem tell us this time. Kudos to JTF!!! |
eGuerrilla: https://www.channelstv.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Jo-in-Brazil-300x180.jpgI wonder why people are surprised by this statement. Wasn't this the same garrulous fellow that asked us to be grateful to the President for bringing Facebook to Nigeria?? ![]() |
DTaj: Our support for the President should never have been the main pivot for this sort of discussion. Rather, we should take a dispassionate view of the propriety of his visit to Brazil.+100 |
The President has broken no law by going for the summit in Brazil...its just that it doesn't sound right for him to leave the country at a time as critical as this. I'm sure none of his fellow leaders at the summit would leave their countries to attend an earth summit if their counties were on fire. A leader of a country where bombs go off at regular intervals leading to multiple fatalities and where a plane fell out of the skies and 60% of the fatalities are still smoldering in the mortuary 2 weeks after, unidentified, should be a bit more circumspect in his actions. Sad to see that Abati has the onerous task of trying to justify this ill-advised move on the part of the president. Seasons change; the tables turn; I can imagine what Abati's Saturday column would have been if things were as they were... |
A much better response than that defensive initial response claiming El-Rufai insulted the Ibo race. |
Why can't this people just accept the name change and move on? We have bigger fish to fry right about now. The President was within his rights to rename a federal institution like UNILAG. He may have done it wrong but then this is a President that enjoys global renown for his gaffes so I'm not surprised. There is no need for his drama. |
I wish Mr. President will leave the tears and prayers to us and do his job. God has never contested any election in Nigeria and he definitely didn't win the 2011 elections. How is it that everything God has blessed us with in this country has become a curse...including religion? |
I thought I was the only one who found that advert a tad bit condescending. Methinks it should be edited immediately. |
icez: Guess you prefer Agama Lizard then.Guess you prefer Dumb then ![]() |
icez: Reptyle or Agama Lizard?Hopeless or Dumb? Which one are you? |
phantom: Really*Yawns* |
phantom: alhaji harem....next time during one of those cold lonely nights in your room when you wonder why people do not take you seriously, please revisit this thread and read your comments!!Yaaay!!! Nice of you to introduce urself...welcome to Nairaland I.diot. Are you and Icez brothers? Cos he introduces himself as "Dumb." now you sY you are I.diot. Is there a third member of your brotherhood called doofus ![]() |
icez: Like i have said, you are HOPELESS.Good effort...but I said TWO sentences. A comma does not mark the end of a sentence. |
icez: You are hopeless. That's better. Now, try writing two sentences... |
Beaf: It is silly to predict that people who are not questioning the cost of Fashola's govt malevolently using the remains of the aircrash victims as macabre pothole filling material, would suddenly question the cost of ethically burying them.Ok |
icez: WTF.Are you dysgraphic? ![]() |
Beaf: Are you alj haram? The guy clearly mentioned that the 911 rubble was disposed of in a land fill. I and a few others have repeatedly posted that the rubble should have been buried. Why then are you asking for "creative" ways of handling the rubble?Guy grow a brain and stop being such a louse! Its possible to counter a point without speaking so condescendingly. Y,all are talking about him burying the rubble but you particularly would be up in arms queryingmthe amount that it would cost to execute such an operation. I did state earlier that filling potholes with the rubble was not a well thought out idea even though it may have been done with noble intentions. As to whether I'm Alhaji Harem, i would simply say that just because you often open threads here where you end up responding to urself with your multiple identities doesn't mean we all do it. |
ooua: Which way Nigeria. How can you fill roads with crash site rubble? Can't Nigerian's learn to show respect for ourselves even in death? Let them find out from USA how they cleared the 9-11 rubble. Please, please, please the families who lost their love ones in this crash should not be hurt a second time. The rubble from WTC cost a lot to clear. I am sure you'd be one of the first people to jump on a thread berating Fashola for spending billions on clearing rubble were he to decide to go that way. Like I said, until someone here comes up with a more creative way of handling the rubble, I would plead that we all stop being overtly dramatic about this issue and channel our passion more towards ensuring that policies that will ensure we never have to go through this kind of horror again are implemented. |
The intention was a noble one...but the approach was not well thought out. LASEMA probably expected to receive commendation for the efficient manner the rubble was cleared. The only concern I have is with the health implications. Otherwise, there really isn't much that could have been done. The rubble from WTC was carefully sifted for body parts, evidence and other things before it was shipped away to a landfill site. But that operation lasted well over a year and cost the State about $5 Billion. While the rubble from the Iju crash is obviously on a smaller scale, it will still cost the State a lot to carry out the operation. Methinks the dispatch with which this issue was treated is ok as one can't really blame the government for not coming up with more innovative solutions. The area should be monitored and fumigated regularly over the next few months however. |
Y'all are just making a mountain out of a mole hill...like seriously!!! Networks all over the world send text messages to sensitize their subscribers about new offerings, breaking news, weather, traffic updates, etc. it isn't peculiar to networks in Nigeria. Besides, these messages are pushed out in batches because pushing them out as frequently as y'all claim you receive it will create unnecessary network congestion. While I agree that it could be a nuisance sometimes, its really not as big a deal as y'all make it sound. |
moremi2008: There is a reason why Africa is backward. And no, it isn't because of our colonial history. Only backward illiterates think words are enough to provoke physical aggression. A human being should not be a daft animal without self-control.So in your opinion, it is always ok for a woman to deploy "her only weapon" while the "real man" just stands by abi? Did u watch that video at all? Did you notice that he was walking away when she stepped in front of him? Did you notice that she hit him first? KMT joor! Y'all keep talking about this America like it isn't people that leave there or its a place on another planet that no one else has gone before. Google the statistics of domestic crimes in the US and compare to any country in Africa, then come back and talk to me about how America is this eldorado where women always get away with sexual and verbal assault. By the way, are you also aware that in some parts of the US, Zainab could go to jail for been a peeping tom? |
christ4kay: Shame to bad Pple. Let me congratulate the professionals! As for those that were employed during the crises congratulate you too. As for those that were employed during the crises congratulate you too. Pls appreciate your colleagues who went ob strike for you to.be employed.@ fashola thank your star that you recalled them many of your road flowers wwould have perish. Yeye! You don't have money to pay doctors but waste money on flowwrs....OLODO!!!!!!!But weren't the doctors on strike a few days before they were sacked? Are they still not on strike now that they have been "recalled?" While it may be ok to heap the blame on the government, fact is the doctors cannot shy away from receiving some of the blame for this. Whatever the dispute, the doctors have no justification for abandoning their post completely. In the UK, doctors have given notice of a one day strike later this month due to disputes about pension deductions with the government. The BMA was however, clear on the fact that emergency cases and urgent surgeries will be taken care of during the strike. This was not the case with our dear doctors. Both parties made some very bad decisions. I'm glad the government has reversed the "sack." I hope the doctors will also do the right thing by returning to work. |
Seun: "Teargas into halls of residence" implies that they gassed even the students that were not protesting i.e. in their rooms. The instruction was loud and clear: School's out for 2 weeks....all students to vacate campus immediately!!! I am sure the statement was made in English. What are those kids still doing on campus almost 3 days later ![]() |
Why don't they just go home like they were instructed to What kind of parents would allow their children to keep fighting a pointless cause and risking bullets from trigger happy policemen when they have been ordered to vacate campus?Methinks there's a more amiable way of challenging the name change without recourse to civil disobedience. I pray we don't hear stories of stray bullets and broken limbs after this unnecessary drama. |
reindeer: This is really hilarious, humbled?Look closer, the doctors will eventually get what they want, fashola wanted to play hardball and he had to blink first. Its easy to pontificate now, i'm sure people like you will be one of the first to shout if they go on strike for facilities in a coouple of months. Going by your logic you want them to up and leave and work for the FG?well the same could apply, people complaining about these Drs can leave Lagos and live in states paying conmess or must people live in lagos too? The government messed up big time and is now on a face saving venture. For your information, with this singular act, Fashola has put the doctors on the defensive. Even among their ranks, their will be discordant tunes. Majority of them will chicken out at this point and opt to return to work. Don't forget that in every labor struggle, there are always fifth columnist....The government only needs to identify them and the strike is history ![]() |
Masterstroke by Fashola. Now those doctors are going to look utterly evil if they still hold out on returning to work as soon as possible. In the struggle to get them reinstated, most people have forgotten the crux of the matter...full CONMESS abi! The issue became about how Fashola sacked the entire workforce. Now he has shifted ground, |
snowdrops: No mind am. For his/her information doctors have decided to go on strike in the UK come JuneBut you forgot to add that this is the first time that doctors are going on strike in the UK since 1975...and that there have been numerous labor disputes since then but the doctors exercise restraints because they recognize that they hold sensitive positions. You also forgot to add that the strike in June is for one day and the BMA made it expressly clear that doctors would be on hand to attend to emergency cases throughout the duration of the "one-day walkout" on June 21st. |
The Lagos State government had an agreement (about 3 years ago) with the doctors to follow the unified salary structure for doctors in the Country. The Lagos State government has simply failed to fulfill their part of the agreement for 3 years and running. And it baffles me that some people on this forum have decided to support this show of irresponsibility by this state government. As far as I'm concerned, this just goes to show the level of commitment of the govt. in developing their state (at least most other States do not take healthcare for granted). No wonder our roads, power supply, etc are a joke. They'll make agreements with contractors, once the job begins, the govt. will renege on the agreement leaving the project to an indefinite halt. Besides, virtually ALL other States in the Country pay the CONMESS to doctors working for the States. Even got to learn that in Borno State, the salary is an even "improved" CONMESS, and so it is in many other States. So why all these breaking of agreements and lies by the Lagos state government? The most ridiculous of all is the claim that some of the doctors are reapplying for work with the state; when in REALITY there is a NATIONWIDE Strike by doctors (for 3 days, with a 2-week ultimatum to follow) for the Lagos state govt. to withdraw the sack issuance and implement the CONMESS). The govt. should just do the right thing and stop spreading lies in the media.
How many of the so-called States paying CONMESS have up to half of the numbers of doctors practising in Lagos? How many of those states have up to a quarter of the number of the Lagos State civil service? How many of those States are contending with the challenges that Lagos State faces with regard to dearth and decay of public infrastructure and an over bloated population? I have spent time in Borno and I know that as at the time I was there, 2009 to be precise, Borno State had less than 100 doctors spread across 33 primary healthcare institutions. It got so bad at a time that the government had to resort to employing Egyptian consultants to complement its local medical workforce. Is that the State you would want to compare with Lagos State with its over 1000 doctors? Let us be objective in our comments please!!! |
niyitogun: Learnt the doctors din't beg, it's the ones on leave who were being called back...it's all propanganda, fashola would slowly realise what he has done and try to win the public back gradually by reversing itFashola has the public's support on this...if you doubt it, setup a poll on nairaland and see for yourself. Fashola may have been a bit high handed in his handling of this issue. But the truth is that no government nay employer, will stand by and condone the recklessness displayed by the doctors to work. Even the doctors themselves would not smile at their own employees in their private practices. All they have to do is toe the line of reconciliation rather than adopt this militant posture and expect the government to dance to their tune. The government has told them exactly what to do in order to be recalled...the question is are they ready to go back to work? |
