Christianity Etc › Re: Cartoons Lead Children To Hell ( Avoid It) by Reptyle(m): 5:19pm On Nov 19, 2012
I don't believe the story about children been in hell for throwing tantrums and basically been children. But we really need to pay careful attention to what our children watch on TV because there is a lot of unwholesome stuff on air these days. Whether we believe it or not, TV is one of the major ways of conditioning the minds of children.

My kids are 5 and 3 and they grew up watching Cbeebies and Disney Juniour. I must say that it did a lot to improve them intellectually. I however, recently began to allow them watch Cartoon Network and I immediately began to notice negative changes. It started with the coarse language and harsh words, to the aggressive rough play while trying to emulate various cartoon characters and "super heroes." The recent and most disturbing aspect is their reluctance to sleep alone in their room with the lights off. They would always ask for an adult to be with them till they sleep off and if they wake up within the night and discover they are back in their own room alone, they'll dash into our room or begin to cry.

That may not sound like much but it is worrisome to me because these same kids have always slept in their own room right from Day 1 until recently when they began to be exposed to these weird cartoons. Its back to Cbeebies and Disney Juniour now for me. Basically, be care ful what your children watch.

gunuvi: And who is saying the truth here and who is propagating propaganda?
My brother Nigerians no longer take El rufai words serious again as we know he was worse while in office. He can never be trusted.
You will be shocked at how wrong you are. El-Rufai has tons of followers. As Ehie has repeatedly pointed out, peddling half-truths and outright falsehood doesn't detract from El-Rufai's pedigree...he was a principled and outstanding Minister while in government and until this government is able to make any of their charges of corruption stick, they can't hold a candle to his achievements.

I agree with you though that no Nigerian politician can be trusted...I'm sure the millions of Nigerians that voted Jonathan under the false assumption that he would lead us to el-dorado because he grew up with no shoes, also agree with you.

Is every aeroplane a private jet? No.
If I had been announced as a winner yesterday, would I really want my photo displayed with the current happenings in Nigeria? No.
I seriously think we should stop screaming "scam" until we have a proof. The first and only time I saw one of the winners of the Etisalat Range Rover Sport, I mocked him until I was convinced that the guy truly won it.
BTW, who knows where Mr. Aroma is? Aroma won N10 million in the Who Wants to Be A Millionaire game show. That he is no longer in the spotlight doesn't make it a scam.
Just because the winner of the $1 million prize money in Etisalat promo was not known to me doesn't make it a scam.
It only becomes a scam when I have a major proof to back it up.

onyxo76: are we still on this promo thing? ok i accept won the aeroplane or cash equivalent, the question is- will MTN give her the 64 million just like that?i really dont think so. Glo has not sent the winners of the manchester promo 2 years after it was concluded and the winners are already frustrated.do you think its so easy to give out 64 million to an individual just like that even if you record over 2 billion daily as profit?
If it wasn't impossible for Etisalat to dole out 1 million USD to a subscriber during one of their promos, why do you think 64 million naira will be so hard for MTN to give out? I still do not think that amount is worth a network as big as MTN risking its reputation over.

But seriously, some of you need to stop displaying your ignorance so openly.

The internet is not just meant to enable you post stuff on Nairaland and facebook. Google is your friend so why don't you conduct a research on Cessna 182T Skylane as was promised by MTN? How can you come here saying that they gave out a 1956 planehuh shocked

Please click on the link below to see and read about the CESSNA light plane that was the prize announced:

http://www.controller.com/listingsdetail/aircraft-for-sale/CESSNA-182T-SKYLANE/2012-CESSNA-182T-SKYLANE/1190297.htm

So you actually think that an international organization whose annual turnover from its local operation is well over 50 billion naira, will risk impugning its integrity over a 400 thousand dollars planehuh How silly that would be.

Christianity Etc › Re: Pastor Adeboye: Don't Marry Outside The Redeemed Christian Church by Reptyle(m): 5:08pm On Oct 05, 2012
ochukwuma15: Two issues are at stake here,
first, don't marry outside RCCG so that when there is problem, it will be easy to resolve.
Secondly, jobless men should not marry until they secure a job.

In the first case, i will term it a political statement in the sense that if all the men in RCCG are allowed to marry outside the church, who will now marry the ladies in RCCG, including pastor Adegboye's daughters?

The best advice pastor Adegboye should have given his youths is to marry someone you love dearly. If there is love in every family, the pastor will not have any reconcilliation to do because the family will be at peace and when the family is at peace, the society will also be at peace because the family is the smallest unit of the society. It's when love breaks down that irreconcilliable differences will start to resoface and the matter will be dragged to men of God, afterall, they are those that joined them together.

On the issue that jobless men should not get married, that advice is wrong. Marriage has no formulae, and not forgetting that 1+1 is equal to 1, since the jobless man has been taking good care of himself before the lady comes into the picture, without asking for subvention from pastor Adegboye, he can equally take care of his wife.

Adegboye and other men of God should join hands together to fight the high cost of marriage in our society and not asking jobless men to stay clear of marriage.

In the western world, a lady can call her parents on the phone and say, 'mummy, daddy, i'm getting married today'. And her parents will shout, 'waoh, is he handsome, loving, caring, when are we meeting him, we wish you the best sweetheart, we trust you to make the right decisions, bye.'

Thunder will fire you if you try that with a yeruba parent or an Igbo parent. You have to do first introduction, second introduction, iku aka, imalu be, first wine carrying, second wine carrying, traditional marriage. Before you get to white marriage, you're as poor and jobless as any thing you can think of.

Again, it is a known fact that poor and jobless families are more at peace compaired to the rich families. If you're in doubt, look around you.

Instead of calling that jobless men should stay clear of marriage, he should build industries and factories and employ RCCG men and women to work there, that will solve the joblessness issue and reduce poverty rate in nigeria. The money used in buying private jet should have been channeled to solving this problem.

He remembered that adam had a job(taking care of garden of Eden) before God gave him a wife, but forget that Jesus did not have private jet or exotic cars. Jesus was so broke that he can't afford a horse or a carmel.

Thank God, i'm not a member of RCCG, because very soon, it will be passed into law ................. Chuks writes from Enugu, Nigeria.
While you are entitled to your opinion, I would just like to take you up on the highlighted part. Are you aware that Jesus and his disciples had a treasurer called Judas Iscariot? I you aware that it was stated that Judas used to steal from the common purse that was kept in his care? Do broke people have need of an accountant? I do not think so. Jesus and his disciples lived a communal life where what belonged to one belonged to the other. That was why they had a common purse. I do not think it is right to describe Jesus as broke. But of course he wasn't ostentatiously wealthy either.
These are his words.. live on DOVE TV.

Don't marry outside this church! Unless you're blind (men), we have alot of good girls in this church. Reasons : if troubles come up later, we can easily call the family to order..but God help you if you marry a lady with another G.O ..

He also said..

"Don't marry a man who has no job!. God gave Adam a job before he gave Eve. If he tells you he is a contractor, please ask for all evidence..
I am sure this was an advice that came out wrong...sounding like a command. My pastor says stuff like this all the time but its more of an advice. But seriously, I would not consent to my daughter marrying a man with no steady source of income...and I do not need my Pastor to tell me that.

Adam had a job tending the garden of Eden. If he didn't, Eve would not have been called a "helper" or "helpmeet"
Car Talk › Re: Frsc Faults Lagos Policy On Number Plate by Reptyle(m): 7:52am On Oct 05, 2012
creativeEngr: Interesting ... Let's pause for a moment and think about what would happen if every State passes a similar law.

Would commercial and private motorists have to obtain different plate numbers to visit any State in the country?

Would it be fair to drive your car only where you reside?

This doesn't seem to make much sense...
Commercial and private motorists will not need to renew their license plates insofar as they do not RESIDE in the states they are visiting. All the proposed law needs to state is the window period within which a motorist can reside temporarily in a State after which he would be required to re-register his vehicle with the authorities in the new State.
Politics › Re: EFCC To Arrest Priests Over Atuche’s N45 Million Tithe by Reptyle(m): 7:20pm On Oct 04, 2012
Tithes are usually paid anonymously.I am aware that some churches (mine inclusive) encourage members to write their names on the envelop containing the cash. It is however, not compulsory to do so.

I recall an incident that happened during a service of Pastor Tunde Bakare's Latter Rain Assembly. I had been invited for service by a friend. I recall that during the announcements, Pastor Tunde Bakare called out a senior naval officer who was a long standing member of the church. He told the congregation that he had noticed a radical increase in the amount that was paid as tithe by the officer that month over and above the amount for previous months. He bluntly asked the man to explain to the congregation the source of the sudden increase as he was not aware that the officer had been promoted.

The visibly embarrassed but amused officer had to explain to the church that his income for that month increased because he had been shortlisted by the navy to attend a training programme abroad and his estacode had been paid to him and he decided to give 10% of it along with the usual 10% of his monthly salary as tithe. Apparently satisfied with the explanation, Pastor Bakare handed the check issued by the officer to to his assistant, apologized to the man for the embarrassment and proceeded to close the service.

Perhaps more churches needto adopt that level of probity with regard to tithes and offerings to prevent situations like this.

Borrowing money for new airport terminals in a country where we are struggling with the availability of basic amenities like power just does not make any sense to me.

It is also strange that the move is been championed by a woman who helped to get us out of the murky waters of foreign debts just a few years ago. One would assume that she would be a bit more circumspect in guiding another government down that same road now, knowing our penchant for defaulting on this kind of arrangement in the past.

This is quite worrisome for me.

Now, except you were at the meeting where Tinubu actually made the statement as alleged by Agunloye and actually have documented proof that the statement was made, you, kind sir, are depending on hearsay and indeed chasing shadows like our friend in the "SRLN."

Politics › Re: Probe Salami For Nominating Akeredolu As Ondo ACN Guber Candidate:srln by Reptyle(m): 10:36am On Sep 12, 2012
rasputinn: An Abuja-based non-governmental organisation, Society for Rule of Law in Nigeria (SRLN), has urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) and security agencies in the country to probe the claim by the former Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Olu Agunloye, that it was the suspended President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami, who nominated Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) as the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) for the October 20 Ondo State governorship election.

The group said Agunloye’s claim should not be wished away because allegations of judges’ involvement in the selection of political parties’ candidates for election is one that portends grave danger for democratic governance and rule of law in the country.

When asked whether it was true that Justice Salami actually influenced the choice of Akeredolu as ACN candidate, Agunloye, who was also a governorship aspirant in the party said; “Tinubu himself was quoted to have said that he needed to do this as compensation to Justice Salami. We were asking him what concerns Ondo State with Justice Salami and if Salami had done any good for you, find a way of compensating him and if he is interested in governorship of Kwara State, give him Kwara State and not Ondo State.”

Reacting, SRLN said in a statement issued yesterday by its National Coordinator, Chima Ubeku that Agunloye’s revelation was a further confirmation of the unholy relationship that exist between Justice Salami and the ACN leader, Bola Tinubu, and “the NJC must act on this new revelation.”

“We wish to draw the attention of Nigerians to the revelation made by Dr. Olu Agunloye in his interview published in some newspapers last Saturday and Sunday, on the involvement of Justice Salami in the emergence of Akeredolu as the ACN governorship candidate for Ondo State, and wish to state that such claims are not what should be wished away.

“This is because the issue of Salami’s unholy relationship with the ACN leader, Bola Tinubu has remained one of the major credibility crises facing the judiciary in Nigeria and Agunloye’s revelation has provided another clue as to how it can be resolved.

“Besides, democracy in Nigeria risks grave danger if judges are now openly involved in partisan politics.

“Our question is, with Akeredolu as the candidate of a notorious judge, who also has his ‘trusted’ men in the bench, what will happen when litigations arise on the Ondo State governorship election?

“Are judges going to be imported from other countries to sit on petitions arising from the Ondo State election?

“The NJC and security agencies in the country must therefore probe Dr. Agunloye’s claim, because like other revelations on Salami and Tinubu’s convivial relationship, it touches on the very root of rule of law in the country,” SRLN said.

Travel › Re: Stranded Air Nigeria UK Passengers Asked To Buy Aviation Fuel by Reptyle(m): 1:25pm On Sep 11, 2012
macnuel: Okay Mr @Rossikk, understand one simple fact. And i'm going to put it in one question.
When something is bad, what do you call it?
Good? Deserves applause? And yet you open your mouth and can call some fellow human beings like you sick! You yourself are one pathetic human being. You should have yourself examined... psyche examination for that matter. I'm very sure in those countries you gladly highlighted so that you can justify the act of our beloved Air Nigeria crew that extorted 40GBP from their customers, they would have complained as well as we are doing now. Bad things happen yeah. But because it happens elsewhere and we are no different doesn't make it justified. Please revise your mind and let's call a spade a spade.
My understanding is that the money was to be refunded to the passengers upon arrival in Nigeria.

I think what Rossikk was trying to stress is the fact that the Air Nigeria situation is not unique and not because it is a "Nigerian" airline. The global aviation industry is going through lean times right now and I share his opinion that the management did the right thing by suspending operations at this time.
Celebrities › Re: Golden Penny Noodles: A Disgrace To The Society (shocking) by Reptyle(m): 12:42pm On Sep 11, 2012
I really do not see what the furore was about in the first place. A 30 minutes to 1 hour programme on radio will neither add or detract from a child's control of the English language.

I actually consider it a plus for a child to be able to speak the pidgen English because it is part of our national heritage whether we agree or not. Pidgen as far as I am concerned is another Nigerian language and not "bad English" as wrongly assumed by Brand Focus and their ilk. It has its unique and distinct grammar, lexicon and structure. It borrows a lot from English but has evolved a lot of unique words and expressions that do not exist in the English language. It is a variant of Creole spoken in parts of West Africa and Patois spoken in the West Indies.

Would Brand Focus have an issue with children calling in to contribute to a programme broadcast in Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo or any of the other Nigerian languages?

I think it is grossly unfair to deprive children, who may not have access to the kind of schooling in "fluent English" that the brand focus people may have had, the opportunity to express themselves on a public radio show. In my opinion, it is brand focus that should be dragged before a court to answer for charges bordering on trampling on the right of Nigerians of all ages to express themselves freely.

Abeg this brand focus people were just seeking for undue attention jare!
