I am completely embarrassed for the Yoruba race. I am not a fan of Jonathan and this name change may have come at an inopportune time...but the fact remains that the man Abiola is an icon of democracy in this country. I do not understand the reason for this hoopla over the renaming of a federal institution after him. I cannot believe that the same southwest that has been in the forefront of the struggle to have him recognized is now championing the protest against the same recognition. Suddenly, Abiola is now a criminal who doesn't deserve an honour What kind of people are these Yoruba people who cut their own nose to spite their face Jonathan may have had ulterior motives for the honor done Abiola...but it is an honor nonetheless. Abiola may have been a reluctant martyr...but he was a martyr nonetheless. I hope that he gets some more national recognition...like a day dedicated to him. But Jonathan's gesture, ill-timed and all, is a good start and should be commended rather than greeted with reprehension.UNILAG is a brand name my big black ass ![]() |
I am from Kogi State and that is by far one of the most backward states in Nigeria. We have been cursed with inept leaders since the state was created. The current fellow in Lugard House has not done anything in his first hundred days to show that there is about to be a change in the trend. The only newsworthy thing that he has done since assuming office under controversial circumstances a few months ago was to host a talk-of-the-town wedding for his predecessor and mentor-in-thief who was marrying his 4th official wife....we are still watching to see if there will be a change for the better... |
Probably just a long term wet lease of the aircraft. If that is the case then it is a deft business move on their part because the aircraft can be used for business to generate revenue for them. I doubt if it was an outright purchase. Even major airlines hardly do that this days. |
Ozegbe: If God calls me, why not. But i wont just wake up one morning and just because i think i now understand the bible, go and open a church. After David was chosen by God, his brothers were all buried alive as a sacrifice to Dagon...that was why nothing much was heard of them anymore. na wah for you o! I'm glad that reasonable Nigerians are beginning to re-examine the obvious and deliberate misrepresentation of Buhari's figurative statement. As for those who choose to remain blinded by ethnic and primordial sentiments, goodluck to you (pun intended) In 2015, we shall once more try to take our country back from this brood of vipers. |
Buhari only expressed what we all know but like the typical Nigerians we are, we all choose to play the ostrich. Insult Buhari all you like, fact remains that 2015 will be a watershed year for Nigeria if not handled right. Jonathan should concern himself with keeping this country at peace beyond 2015 rather than throwing up these emotional responses to every tom dick and harry that has something to say about his inept government. |
payless: I have been watched at my job for doing nothing wrong other than being a Nigerian. Imagine that I have been working at the same place for three years and my manager keeps asking me in front of everybody what country I came from. He just ask me this same question just for people to know that I am a Nigerian. The manager has asked this question more than 400 times since I have been working there. Anything I do on the computer is being also watched. Anytime something happens, I have to answer to it. I have to answer to Boko Haram menace all the time too. I have about twelve employess who work in my team at work but they all ask me questions about why Nigeria do this and that. Abdulmutalab saga was a very bad experience for me at work. I have been facing this scrutiny for being a Nigerian for a very long time. Is it a crime or curse being a Nigerian? I can't take it anymore. If I were u, I'd be glad I'm been watched...would just make me feel safer. You just go about your lawful business and u have nothing to fear. |
Revolva: hahaha naijaDude...u may not have realized it...but u just confessed to a crime publicly... ![]() |

lagerwhenindoubt: With the heavy use of generators nation-wide and carbon-monoxide in our all-year-round traffic-jams, they are most likely to aid and abet BOKO-HARAM by chewing every driver they encounter - I think they have far more strategic use than sniffing home-made bombs. I think the military intends to use them same way the Police use them - Intimidation, Confusion and First-Attack. Imagine a Military-trained Dog rushing at you with kitted to the teeth with AK47-Kalashnikov, Black rubber boots and Military Camouflage - BOKO-HARAM go mass! ![]() |
2buff: I'm waiting for the day someone will come and harrass me for reading bible from my phone or pad.Makes me wonder what you would do if an usher walked up to you in church and asked you to put away your device during sermon. Would you create a scene? Slap the usher? Walk out of service perhaps? You too funny jare!!! My own is that if the church you attend does not accept it, respect constituted authority like you most likely do in your place of work, or move to the church were they accept technology. |
Baawaa: Read these paragraph and tell me he was the only one in the carHe said: “I was on my way home after purchasing some rolls of film for my camera. I was driving a Honda CRV jeep. My daughter had just completed her Q’uran recitation class and we were going to celebrate it. I had taken a turn from the Ahmadu Bello Stadium roundabout and was heading back home around 9:30am. I saw a Honda car flashing its hazard light and coming in the opposite direction on the other side of the lane. It was speeding. It was an ash coloured car. I noticed all this under a few seconds. Then at the junction of Sarduana crescent, as we approached each other from the different sides of the road, I suddenly saw the car blast into pieces followed by a loud explosion. The car behind him, was thrown into the air. Almost the same time my jeep was lifted into the air. Yes! My car was taken high into the air. Please notice that right from the onset, he used "I" and clearly stated that he was on his way "HOME" after purchasing film for his camera. |
Baawaa: Read these paragraph and tell me he was the only one in the carIf you are a muslim or have lived in the north of Nigeria, you will realize that the celebrations that follow a child's graduation from Quaranic school (walima)is not a small one. The only celebration that equals that amongst Northern muslims is a wedding or the naming ceremony of a newborn. This man could not have been going out to celebrate his daughter's walima all by himself. The portion of the summarized interview you quoted may simply have been transcribed exactly as it was spoken by the man who may or may not have a good control of the English language. Besides, you still have not explained to me what questioning some aspects of this man's testimony have to do with the fact that he survived a bomb blast and is glad to be alive... |
VALIDATOR: I hope you all noticed how he gave details of what happened to his money and phone but nothing whatsoever was said about his daughter or any other occupant of the car.No where in the write-up did the man say that his daughter was in the car with him. What he said was that he had gone to buy rolls of camera films because his daughter just concluded her koranic studies and they (I assume he and his family) planned to celebrate it. I guess the rolls of film were meant to cover the event which may have been planned to hold later. I also assume the sum of money that he was carrying may have been meant to buy other things needed for the celebration. My question is why exactly is this man's testimony been called to question Is it because he went thru hell and lived to tell the story Is it because his body or whatever would have been left of it, is not lying amongst the charred bits and pieces of fellow human beings; innocent Nigerians that littered ground zero after the explosion Is this how low we have sunk as Nigerians that we make light of every situation focusing on inanities rather than on the crux of the matter What a shame!!! ![]() |
Finland: Rolls of film for your camera at this digital age? Do people still use film with camera. A guy driving Honda CRV jeep should be civilized I think. I don't think this story is true.People still use rolls of film for ur information. As regards your idea of gauging someone's civility by the car he drives, that just doesn't make sense. I know a cattle merchant in this our country who drives a Chrysler 300 and recently acquired a 2009 Toyota Highlander. The interesting bit is that he can't read or write a word of English and even struggles with pidgin english. Even more interesting is the fact that he has no qualms parking either of his luxury cars by the roadside at Oshodi, coming out and stooping by the roadside to ease himself in full glare of the public...so go figure!!! |
kemmeye: OK don't get me wrong I'm not defending her all I said was that he should not be the only one to make the decisions for example if he says no but she says yes y does it have to be the guys opinion that stands. So maybe if you had an open mind about what I rote and did not base your opinion on just one reason you would understand me better. So you don't get to say anything k I'm not saying she did good or can you point out a place where I said that f not keep your mouth back where it belonngs (ur ass) before you making your stoopid and biased judgementsKemmye you are missing the point. This isn't about whose opinion stands, this is about the fact that there was no agreement between the woman and her husband that she would get tattoos. Believe me,this is as bad as the man deciding to go be with another woman after all, going by your logic, "it's his body so he can also do anything with it." If both parties in a marriage run off and do whatever they like just because they want to have the last word and prove their independence, is that not a recipe for chaos? What then is the essence of relationship? Why heat up ur home unnecessarily? I know a couple who had major issues for months just because the woman decided to get rid of her hair and adopt a crew cut without the husband's consent. Now that might sound petty but for as long as it took that woman to grow back her hair, their otherwise happy home knew no peace. There's no point creating unnecessary tension in your home. |
Strange that some folks here think tis ok for a married woman to run off and modify herself without discussing with her spouse and getting his consent @ Kemmye While I respect your opinion, I beg to differ a bit. When you get married, your body no longer belongs to you by implication. It is no longer yours to do with it what you will...just as your husband's body is no longer his to do with it what he wills without your buy-in. That is why it's called "Cheating" when you lay with another person or he with another ooutside...except it be by mutual consent... |
Some churches do not allow phone bibles because of the tendency of abuse by the users. I have had cause to rebuke a few people in church who under the pretext of using the Bible app on their phones, begin to ping, receive and respond to text messages and even take calls right in the middle of service, thus distracting others. Laptops and tablets are a more acceptable. |
GboyegaD: How can people be so unkind? You see a dying person and the best thing you could do was to pick up the person's money and walk away not minding if he dies or not. I SMH for some people. What about the ones that are here debating the possibility of the man having N180k in his wallet or not...like that is all they got from the interview...Mcheewwwwww ![]() |
