Travel › Re: Drop Box Visa Applicants Say U.S. Is Revoking And Cancelling Valid Visas by Rhea: 7:29pm On Jun 02, 2018 |
HungerBAD: Drop Box visa applicants say U.S. is revoking and cancelling valid visas of Nigerians.
Mrs Ibidapo, who did not want her real name used so as not to antagonize U.S. embassy officials, said her visa was abruptly revoked by the United States Embassy in Lagos, for no reason after she was invited to the embassy and told to come with her valid US Visa.
” I have been crying everyday with no-one ready to tell me why my visa was revoked, I have never overstayed in the US and was there last year, without any incident, she said.
She is not alone. The number of Nigerians having such visas revoked by the US embassy in Nigeria, has risen sharply in the past months.
Dozens of Nigerians with valid visas trying to obtain a new visa for a spouse, parents or a family member, said the visa applications were denied, and theirs revoked for no reason.
Majority of Drop box applicants who are exempted from visa interview during renewal are now being asked to come for interview with most of them being denied visa.
The Interview Waiver Program (IWP), ‘Drop Box’ introduced many years ago in Nigeria, allows certain Nigerian U.S. visa applicants who are applying to renew a visa in the same class of a visa previously issued by a Consulate/Embassy in Lagos or Abuja, to be considered for a waiver of the visa interview requirement.
In response to Per Second News query about the issue, a U.S State Department Official in Washington, said ” The U.S. Mission to Nigeria has not cancelled the interview waiver process or drop box.’
” When we receive derogatory information that indicates potential visa ineligibility, we take immediate actions such as entering the information in U.S. government databases and revoking visas if appropriate, the official said.
With regard to revocations, the official from the Bureau of Consular Affairs, told this newspaper that Section 222(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) prohibits the United States from discussing individual visa cases.
“The Department has broad authority, under Section 221(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, to revoke visas based on information that comes to light at any time indicating that a visa holder may be inadmissible to the United States or otherwise ineligible for a visa. ”
A traveller to the United States from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, said he was routinely stopped by Nigerian immigration officials and after series of interrogations told he would not be allowed to travel, except he provides a letter from the US Consulate.
The traveller said he went to the embassy to complain and he was giving an appointment: “All she asked to look at was my passport,” he said, referring to the US consular official. “She asked me about two questions, walked away, and returned saying my visa had been revoked. She never gave me a reason why.”
” I was dumbfounded and angry, till date no reason has been given.
Agatha was a holder of a two year multiple visitor visa issued to her in 2017. Since its issuance, Agatha would visit her relatives in Colorado. This year, in June, Agatha is preparing to attend the graduation of her nephew, who is graduating from the PENN State University in Pennsylvania.
Unfortunately, last month, she claimed she received a notice from the US Embassy Consular Section informing her that her visitor visa is already revoked. She is being asked to go to the US Embassy so they can physically revoke the visa.
One of those letters sent to this newspaper by a woman whose visa was cancelled reads: “New information became available after the visa was issued so that we must re-evaluate your eligibility for the visa. Therefore, you will need to re-apply for a visa and the officer will determine your eligibility at that time. ”
The Department of State through the consular officers is given authority to issue visas to foreign nationals. They are also afforded the discretion to revoke and cancel visas after they have been issued, said an Immigration Attorney based in Nebraska.
“The visa holder’s request for reconsideration of the revocation has been eliminated in 2011 regulations. It also allows the consular officer to revoke the visa without notice if it is “impracticable” to notify the visa holder.
Douglas Ellice, former Border Security Specialist at US Department of Homeland Security (2003-2014), said , ” It sometimes happens that it is discovered AFTER a visa is put into a traveler’s passport that the person is ineligible for the visa and ought no to have received it. An effort will be made, often unsuccessfully, to contact the person before they fly to the USA and ask them return to the embassy for physical cancellation of the visa.”
” DHS data systems will quickly know of the issuance and revocation. If the traveler attempts entry into the USA they will probably be denied admission and sent home, Ellice said.
Per Second News findings indicate that, consular officers are given the authority to revoke visas immediately while considering facts determining grounds for ineligibility. This is called the “provisional revocation.” Generally, notice of revocation shall be provided to the visa holder but only “if practicable.” This means that even if the visa holder is not yet notified, his visa may be considered revoked provisionally. Whether or not the visa holder is notified, once the revocation is entered into the State Department’s Consular Lookout and Support System (CLASS), the visa is no longer valid for travel.
Femi Olaniyi travelled to Los Angeles on February 21 with a two-year multiple entry visa. He says the experience proved to be an ordeal. “When I got to the point of entry at Los Angeles Airport, an immigration officer interrogated me.” “He said I should come for biometric (tests) to check whether I have any criminal offence. I told him that I’m not a criminal and that he should go ahead.” “Later, he brought some documents for me to sign and I told him that I would need to read before I sign. He quickly withdrew the document and put me in a cold cell. From there he held me for four days. He collected all my phones so that I would not get access to my family. He later revoked my visa and sent me back to Nigeria.”
Each year it has become increasingly complicated to obtain visas for some people who are truly deserving. Fraudulent applications as well as abuse in the use of nonimmigrant visas are the reason for the stricted regulations.
In a video released last week by Per Second News, Canadian Immigration officials said a large number of Nigerians who enter the U.S., on tourism visas do end up applying for asylum in Canada through the land border they share with the U.S.
Diplomatic cables sent during the reign of former Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson to all American embassies instructed consular officials to broadly increase scrutiny.
The directives asked American embassies and consulates around the world to identify certain groups that should get extra scrutiny when they apply for visas.
This directive also instructs U.S. posts overseas to review the social media accounts of visa applicants, even if the applicant otherwise qualifies for a visa, those identified as meeting the criteria would require additional scrutiny and possible denial.
Nigeria’s economic and political crisis has spurred one of the largest migration flows in history. The result has been a massive exodus of Nigerians to Libya, Ghana, South Africa, China, India, United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore, EU nations and many more. Independent groups estimate that 1 million to 2 million Nigerians have fled the country in recent years.
http://persecondnews.com/2018/05/drop-box-visa-applicants-say-u-s-is-revoking-and-cancelling-valid-visas-of-nigerians/ This is nothing new. A visa is not an automatic entry permit to a country. It gets you as far as border and customs. When you get to that point at the port of entry, you still have to demonstrate that you have a legitimate cause to enter the country and a definite plan to leave. If those are not establish, your entry can be barred. The fact that you invite your virtual nairaland friend over to your house does not mean you will open the door for them when they knock on the door. |

”Somebory shout Hallelujah o. Thank God for delivering me today. I was just coming jeje o, on CBN road Karu Abuja o. This boy led his cows to block a major road o, he almost caused multiple accident o, where in the world did he spring from. I forgot there was a girl about his age there too. Source: http://nairaplus.com/2018/06/uproar-as-herd-of-cattle-blocks-major-road-in-abuja-photos/ These cattle rearers need to learn better and more efficient ways of raising their cattle. Cattle can be raised in a ranch. Split the ranch into two. One half for raising cattle, the other half for raising grass to feed the cattle. They can also grow carrot and onions at the same time. Use cow dung from cow to enrich the soil for the grass. Set it up near a river (there are many in the North). Grass grows better in the savanna region of the north. There are no tse tse fly there. The roaming rearers can settle down and raise their families in one location. Should make better sense than these cross country roaming with their animals. Unless of course there is more to raising their cattle than meets the eye. |

The greatest threats to marriages are extended families and friends. When two strangers make a commitment to live with each other and learn to tolerate their differences while appreciating their meeting grounds, the last thing they need is some nuisance to compound what is already a difficult mission to accomplish. The courteous thing to do is ask the wife to politely ask the sister to leave. After 5 months stay, I would assume that the reserve of courtesy has been exhausted. Next is to sound the warning bell. |

damoskiy: Ex-VC, UNILAG prof in sex scandal Don: She’s a blackmailer, once demanded N400,000 from me Varsity: We’ll probe allegation
A professor of English Studies in the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, and former Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, Olusegun Awonusi, has been accused of sexual harassment by an unnamed student of the institution.
The fresh allegation came a day after the Senate commenced probe into a similar allegation against a professor of Management and Accounting in the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Richard Akindele, who was accused of molestation by a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) student, Monica Osagie.
But Awonusi, a former Commissioner for Education in Ogun State, whose nude pictures allegedly taken by the victim while in his office had gone viral in the social media, has denied the allegation, describing it as a cheap blackmail.
This was as the university yesterday promised to investigate the matter in a fair and open manner. Meanwhile, the unnamed student, in her narration made available to a blog – Linda Ikeji Blog – said she had been suffering the harassment for months. She said: “Whenever students go to his office for anything he is always trying to touch you. I took pictures of him on one of the days I entered his office.
He has made molestation a part of him. I’m even scared for my life in UNILAG. That’s why I’m reaching out to you so he can be stopped. “He is a professor in the English Department, Faculty of Arts. I am not his first victim. He does this all the time to students.
I have completely given up when it comes to academics; he has failed me on tests before. When I talked to him concerning it, he told me I should know what to do and that I am an adult.
“I feel so dirty for even allowing such an old man touch me. But he doesn’t even care; as long as you satisfy his wants. I’m tired of everything. He should be stopped before he ruins the lives of other innocent girls in that English Department. When he touches me I am The school gate Aboderin always in tears, but it doesn’t stop him. Please this is why I am reaching out. All I want is for him to be stopped.
He is destroying the mental state of girls in UNILAG.” The student, who said the lecturers of the concerned department, act like cultists, explained that these lecturers share information about their ‘preys’ among themselves.
“They talk about the girls they have slept with and the ones they plan to sleep with. It has been going on for years,” she added. In an interview with New Telegraph, Awonusi, who was identified in the photographs accompanying the allegation, explained that the pictures revealed by the accuser had been taken about four years ago, and that the concerned student had graduated from the university about three years ago.
Awonusi said he lost his phone sometimes ago, and that the accuser, who he described as a blackmailer, might have secured the pictures from the lost phone. He said: “It is blackmail.
The said pictures were taken about four years ago but sometimes ago, I received a message from a particular lady, saying she was in possession of my nude photos and that I should pay her N400,000. “The lady said if I did not pay the money, she would go public with the photos. I think this is what she had promised.”
Meanwhile, the university, in a statement issued by the Communication Unit of the Corporate Affairs Directorate, acknowledged the news, but promised to conduct thorough investigation and get to the roots of the matter.
“The management has a zero tolerance for allegations pertaining to sexual impropriety, and has a well-established policy against such practices. “We wish to reassure all our stakeholders, students, parents, members of staff and the general public that management will not treat this matter with levity. Management will tackle the allegation with every sense of responsibility and seriousness that the matter deserves.
The issue would be thoroughly investigated with transparency,” the statement said. The university has, therefore, called for relevant information from members of the public, and particularly the concerned student, pledging confidentiality and protection of informants.

My wife's elder sister who is single came to visit us in January but up till now she has not made any move to go and it's not as if we live in a big apartment so there is no much privacy. We got married in 2015 so our union is still young.
This kind of situation puts one in a dilemma because you just don't know what to say and you will be termed "a bad person". She lies on our matrimonial bed even in my presence.
Before now i never knew someone would feel comfortable staying with a younger sister in her matrimonial home. If it is as a result of accommodation problem or maybe you went to a distant location to do one or two things and you now spend sometime in your younger sister's home, that is understandable.
Please what advice do you have for me? Unfortunately, your wife has no powers here. It must have to do with the way they were raised. She must have been an overpowering big sister, otherwise your wife would have sent her packing after 2 weeks. It is time you stepped up to the plate and tell her to pack her stuff and hit the road. If your wife objects, then pack her bag as well. |

PrettyCrystal: According to the Enugu state chairman of Young Progressive Party, YPP, Bede Chukwuekezie, he was allegedly brutalized by police officers attached to the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. He also revealed what he did when the governor asked him to enter his car after the brutalization.
Read what he shared on Facebook;
At about 2:30 to 3:00pm yesterday 25th May, while returning back to YPP State Party Secretariat at 154 Ogui Road Enugu, One side of the road inside the street was blocked by the police inside the street because the Governor visited, which i was not aware until i was told. I packed my car not too far from where the police which happens to be the Governors securites were trying to block even thou i had no problem with the place where i packed, a pregnant woman had already been forced by the police to go back but due to the woman's pregnancy she could not turn back very well to go back, unfortunately while the woman was going back she attempted to harm my own car already packed and i immediately call on the attention of the woman to hold on.
Then i asked the police to help the woman as she is pregnant but they responded if he was responsible for the womans pregnancy, and they asked me to come and help, when i came down they started heating me like a criminal with their guns on my head, my mouth and eyes were like they are no longer in my body any more but the amazing thing was that people started crowding, shawting and snapping them also reminding them who they just beat, then the did has already been done and i have no choice than to close the road with the powers of the ordinary youths within the vicinity in demanding for justice.
The plea from the police to forgive were too late because there was already pandemonium. The Governor could not move any more as it called to my attention, giving honour to the State Governor, i went and the Governor asked me to join his car but i told him no, he said? AM THE CHIEF SECURITY OF THE STATE, I HAVE IMMUNITY. go and meet my aide to give you money, i felt so ashamed of my self, like do i look like an ordinary street boi? what a shame instead of making an arrangement of sending me to hospital for first aid, he chooses to belittle me before the youths who joined hands to stop the brutality of his aids.
I immediately left the Governor to Ogui police station Enugu where i was told that i slumped inside S.O office Ogui police station while they where preparing a doctors report to the Enugu State CID clinic after the Parklane hospital had rejected me thinking that i was going to die with the aid of the same police men from Ogui police station Enugu.
According to the Doctor, he said that i will be going for a number of scan and xras to ascertain the real cause of the slump. He said i was brought in a state of extreme coma and lost almost one of my eye if not well treated.
I know in the proper orientation of extreme politicians that once you fail negotiation you are already an enemy, well noted.
I will keep on saying it that Enugu cannot be a one party system, there must be competition and we are ready to reunite our people, the teeming youths who lavish every day in the fore corners of our prisons full of over drowsiness and infectious diseases. We are not against one man or any body but to call the attention to all our leaders all over the country that even a gun at the neck won't change the cause we have embarked on.
I seek good governance, nothing more nothing less and we will not back out now because we have expanded our tentacles all over the state and in the country.

He was paraded yesterday alongside 40 other suspected criminals at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Nurudeen’s whereabouts had been unknown since the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Musa Magaji Majiya, invited him on Thursday.

Crime › Re: Prophet Beats Sick Man To Death During Deliverance In Delta by Rhea: 4:25am On May 22, 2018 |
stane007: Prophet Moses Urovbu of the God Revival Prayer Ministry, based in Ughelli, Delta state, has reportedly been arrested by officers attached to the Delta State Police Command, for reportedly chaining and beating a 30-year-old man, Monday Edjedjere, brought to his church in search of healing for his mental ailment, to death.
The deceased who was placed on seven days fast without food or water, was chained to a coconut tree at the back of the church during the duration of the dry fast and was constantly beaten with a holy water cane till he became too weak and died on April 2nd.
Confirming the arrest of the Prophet, the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha said on March 28th, the victim, Monday Edjedjere was taken to Prophet Urovbu for prayer and healing by his mother.
The Sun reported that the church General Overseer billed the troubled mother N24,000, out of which she was able to pay N8,000 and thereafter returned to her Awsha community home leaving her son in the care of Prophet Urovbu. He further added her return to the church three days after, precisely on March 30th the woman met her son chained to a coconut tree with injuries all over his body.
Speaking to newsmen, Prophet Moses Urovbu said;
''I am the General Overseer of God Revival Prayer Ministry. I started my ministry in 1989. I have a large congregation spread across four branches of my church in Warri, Ughelli, Ewu, and Bayelsa State. I do pray for all kinds of people who are sick in my church. It was the mother of the deceased that brought him to my church because he was suffering from madness. I admitted him for prayers and billed them N24, 000 and the mother paid just N8, 000. I put the deceased on seven days dry fast. He started proving stubborn and broke the church plastic chairs. As a result, my pastors joined me and we chained him to a tree at the back of the church. The injuries on his body were sustained while flogging him with holy water cane so that he can be healed. It was when the mother discovered the condition of her son was not improving that she said I should release him to them. I refused because I can handle the situation. Unfortunately, the boy fell down, collapsed and died. On that fateful day, I still discharged five people who had similar sickness and I healed them and they are right in their houses now.”
The suspect's arrest however came after the deceased's brother, Michael Edjedjere, reported the matter to the police immediately it was discovered that his brother had died.
''When my mother told me about the critical condition of my brother, Monday, I felt bad especially when I heard he was chained by Prophet Moses. I called Prophet Moses on phone and told him that he should release my brother to me to take him to the hospital. But the prophet refused, boasting that he will heal him. It was two days later, my mother called me that my brother is dead. I didn’t believe it. I quickly rushed to Ughelli Police Station to report the case and that was how he was arrested.” Michael said

Health › Re: Zobo Drink Is Effective In Managing Hypertension - Dr Ochuko Erukainure by Rhea: 4:21am On May 22, 2018 |
JodiEnterprises: Consumption of `zobo’ drink is very effective in the management of hypertension due to its anti-hypertensive properties, says Dr Ochuko Erukainure, a nutritional biochemist.
Erukainure, a senior research officer with the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO), Oshodi, Lagos State, disclosed this to newsmen in Lagos.
According to him, `zobo’ drink also known as hibiscus drink also helps in reducing cholesterol level, high blood pressure, diabetes and constipation in the human system.
He said, `Zobo’ drink contains between 15 per cent and 30 per cent organic acids such as: citric acid, maleic acid, and tartaric acid. It also contains acidic polysaccharides and flavonoid glycosides, such as cyanide and delphine.
Furthermore, he revealed that `Zobo’ drink helps to lower blood pressure.
Erukainure also said that drinking a cup of `zobo’ drink after every meal would help to reduce the absorption of dietary carbohydrates and assist in weight loss as zobo contains an enzyme inhibitor which blocks the production of amylase. According to him, amylase is an enzyme that breaks down complex sugars and starches.
“It is rich in Vitamin `C’ and makes a wonderful herbal remedy to fight off colds and infections as well as help to retain fluid in the body system,’’ Erukainure said.
The senior researcher advised consumers not to add sugar to their `Zobo’ drink so that its natural essence could be well-preserved and not contaminated by other non-natural essences.
Erukainure , however, advised pregnant women against consuming `Zobo ‘drink saying some studies had shown that such could lead to miscarriage. “Its safety during breast feeding is unknown and, therefore, it is best to avoid `zobo’ drink then also.’’
Erukainure said that patients diagnosed with low blood-pressure should not drink it and if they should, they should consult their doctors before doing so.

OEPHIUS: …seeks refund of money spent on federal roads
History was made in Enugu State, yesterday, as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi inaugurated one of the five new Ultra Modern Fire Service stations being constructed by his administration across the three Senatorial Districts after 56 years such projects were built in the state.
It would be recalled that the last time three fire service stations located at Ogui, Enugu North Local Government Area, Nsukka, Nsukka LGA and Idaw River, Enugu South L.G.A were built was in 1962 when Enugu State was under the defunct Eastern Region.
This came as the governor made a further passionate appeal to the federal government to reimburse the state government the money spent on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of some federal roads in the state.
Receiving the Honourable Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola at the Government House, Enugu, when the latter paid a courtesy visit, Gov. Ugwuanyi explained that based on the report from the committee set up by the Minister to assess the true value of works executed by the state government on federal roads in 2009 and after 2009, the total certified amount stands at N22.8 billion.
The governor further explained that the state government’s interventions between 2015 and 2018, which are yet to be certified by the Federal Ministry, have been assessed at N13.015 billion.
He stated that the “humble and passionate appeal to the Federal Government for the refund”, not only “accords with best practices and fairness but will significantly boost our capacity to tackle some of the state’s pressing challenges especially in the face of the severe economic circumstances confronting the nation today”.
The Minister, who informed the governor that he was in the state on inspection tour of the on-going federal government’s development projects in the South East geo-political zone to ensure that they are delivered on time and according to specifications, stressed that “irrespective of political structures, development is the ultimate”.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Fire Service station at Ogrute, Igbo Eze North L.G.A, the state’s Chief Fire Officer, Engr. Okwudiri Ohaa thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for his “total commitment towards safety in the state by constructing 5 new ultra modern fire stations across the state bearing in mind the last time a fire station was built in the state was in 1962, in the now defunct Eastern Region, which is over 56 years”.
“I equally praise the quality of work done, which is of international standard. I pray God to continue to strengthen His Excellency to continue the good work he is doing in Enugu State and bless him (Ugwuanyi) in a special way for remembering the abandoned Enugu State Fire Service”.
Other four stations, nearing completion, are strategically located in Four-Corner, Ozalla, Nkanu West LGA; 9th Mile Corner, Udi LGA; Orba, Udenu LGA and Oji, Oji River LGA.

Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Wednesday, March 28, shot dead the youth leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Etsako West local government of Edo State, Samson Sedi.
Sedi, popularly known as Power Remain, was allegedly killed by armed robbers while attempting to rescue a female petrol station attendant at NNPC mega in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area, who was being robbed on Wednesday in Jattu.
The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has expressed shock at the news of the brutal killing of Mr Sedi.
"I was shocked on receiving the news of Mr. Samson Sedi’s death. My heart goes out to his family. I have ordered the relevant security agencies to arrest the killers and prosecute them without delay,” Obaseki said.
He described the late Sedi as “a grassroots mobiliser, a philanthropist who cared for orphans and a great lover of people, whose death is a huge loss to Edo people and the APC.”
“I learnt he was driving into a road around a petrol station in Jattu and heard a female petrol station attendant shouting for help. The late Sedi, drove into the petrol station to ascertain what was happening, only to be shot by the armed robbers who were operating at the petrol station. Sedi has been with us in our party for a long time and I sympathise with his family,” the governor said.

Imagine how people are actually walking into these places without appropriate HAZMAT suits. We should have clear policies of disposing off these bodies when unclaimed after a short period of time or donate them to medical schools for teaching purposes. |
