I am sure it will be the venue for all sorts of functions when it arrives if it doesn't sink before it gets here ![]() Government officials will most likely be staying there free of charge or pay for it out the coffers of the government. They borrowed money to buy it? Why didn't they build a proper hotel or lodge on solid ground. Building one on solid ground will create more jobs for construction workers etc while it is being built. I kind of get suspicious when govt people use govt money/govt loan to do something like this o! |

If China does not want black people at the olympics, Don't go if you are BLACK! Not sure about this story though cos there'll be quite a few black athletes at the games. |
I have been seeing beggars at parties for some 7 years now! You get those who intrude parties bringing their own musical instruments(usually traditional drums). They play the drums loudly, singing praises from guest to guest with the hope of getting some money in return. There's also women and children, disabled or able-bodied too who beg for money or food at parties. |
LMAO! @ Poster Please try to always get your news from RELIABLE SOURCES! |
I have a burning passion for Nigeria. I sometimes just wish there was something I could do to help change the way things are. At the moment there is nothing I can do, nothing at all, except build and develop myself so I can do something for Nigeria in the years to come. I do look forward to starting to make a difference in the lives of those in my immediate community. Anybody have any plans to make a difference? Please get in touch as I would love to be a part of it. My email is seyi@seyibrown.com God bless Nigeria! |

What about those traditional dance costumes that expose the tummy and the thighs? I just don't see any reason why the freedom to wear what we want should be taken away from us! Why should some people sit somewhere and try to force a dress code on us? We are all free thinking humans. Wouldn't it be better if they focused on bills that gives more recognition of our human rights than those than actually take some of those rights away form us. Like that odili.net article said, why should we impose a dress code on someone else's wife and daughters on his behalf? Will they be imposing neck high and floor length costumes next? |

The conditions in which some oyinbo people sef dey live for britain is shocking! I have been to some homes here and have been really shocked! On one occassion, I actually came near to crying cos' I couldn't believe this bloke was living in that kind of place. And it makes me wonder sometimes why the british govt doesn't take care of this people who need help instead of poking their noses into other countries' affairs. I would chose a Lagos/ Nigerian life over some of the lives I have seen here! |
A network of criminality in one of the UK's largest illegal immigrant communities has been exposed by an undercover BBC News investigation. Widespread unlawful job practices, squalid housing, and a thriving trade in fake documents were uncovered. More than 40 houses packed with illegal immigrants were identified in one square mile of Southall, west London. The young, mostly male Punjabis are not here lawfully and, although most know the risks, they have few legal rights. They are surrounded by forgers, criminals and ruthless employers. Among them, the team of undercover reporters met and filmed a man who called himself Vicki. He was careful about his security - moving the car in which they talked away from CCTV cameras - but open about the fake documents he could obtain, and boasted about customers as far afield as Sheffield, Bradford and Coventry. Vicki said he could get people into the country on lorries, known as donkeys, organised by what he called his "man in Paris", and told how he could provide a fake "original" passport that had been "checked" to beat security at a UK airport. When Vicki was later confronted with the details of what had been filmed, he denied doing anything wrong and said it was a case of mistaken identity. In this hidden world some "faujis" - the term used by the illegal immigrants to describe themselves - try to get by without any documents. Others will have cheap, fake documents, and some will pay good money for original passports, for bank accounts, a Home Office registration card or for stolen identities on driving licences. Documents are important because they provide a sort of legitimacy. What the faujis fear is simple: being caught and sent home. But with the documents they can get a bank account and do some work. The undercover team found there was no shortage of job offers, including at a Southall chip shop where a fauji told of being employed for 12-hour days, six days a week at £150 - about £2 an hour. One reporter, Mohammed, went there for work. The owner, Bhupinder Singh, said to "never mind" the fact he had no papers, that he would "handle that issue" and that the reporter should not mention it "otherwise you may be nicked". After a 14-hour day with no break, Mohammed claimed he had another job to go to and asked for his day's pay, but Mr Singh refused, saying: "You don't get paid for two weeks, right?" Mr Singh has told the BBC that he does not employ illegal immigrants, that all his staff have the correct paperwork and permission to reside and work in the UK, and that he did not pay Mohammed because it was a training day. Another time Mohammed went to an area well known to Southall faujis, where they wait at the roadside to be picked up for casual labour. A man approached and a job "interview" was conducted. "Do you want work?" "Yes." "Come on then." Mohammed was taken to a building site and, without being asked whether he had any experience, was put to work on a roof parapet with no training, safety advice or kit. He was paid £35 for 12 hours' labour. Time and again the importance of having the right paperwork was clear. Showing how easy it was to get hold of it, the undercover team filmed another fake document supplier, Anil Kumar. When Mr Kumar was later confronted, he also said he had done nothing wrong and that it was a case of mistaken identity. This hidden community is an open secret - landlords take on tenants, employers want cheap and uncomplaining labour, while the criminals trade in people's lives. Once the undercover reporters infiltrated this closed community, it was clear how easy it is to remain invisible. One clear fact remains: the scale. In just one square mile, hundreds of illegal immigrants, scores of multiple-occupancy houses, and people dealing in fake identities, employment and fraud. A criminal network that is out of sight. The undercover reporter's name in this story has been changed to protect his identity. Source and Videos: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7505574.stm |
@ Lucrabasi im not spraying air freshner on anything,im just saying the truth most people condemning the man have closed their mind and reasoning to any suggestions as long as it comes from a politician,if it was gani fawehinmi or any of the anti corruption crusaders that suggested this im sure there wont be as much condemnation,if you check the negative comments on here like i have, most of it is on either how small businesses will cope which the man has said that they will be given more time(bearing in mind, the man just made a suggestion which hasnt been fine tuned and checked out yet)Let us assume Generators will be banned. Who will arrest and prosecute the rich and influential who flout this ridiculous rule? The corrupt Nigerian police will swoop on the poor who dare use their generators. So the rule will will only apply to the poor and powerless at the end of the day. It is simply cruel! |
That stupid man wants to take our independence away from us! The government has shown us over the decades that we can not rely on them, hence our looking for solutions to problems that we face, hence our looking for alternatives to the social amenities that they refuse to the deliver! God go punish this man and all the people wey follow am propose this 'ridiculous, poor-man continue suffering while the rich keep enjoying' idea as a solution to the government's failure at the provision of a very important amenity! ![]() |

Is this 'senator' from another planet? How Nigerians go manage without generators? The whole nation will come to a standstill! Why doesn't he fix PHCN first and see if people will not stop using their generators. Does he think we really want the expense of fuel and generators in the first place? How did people like this 'senator' get there in the first place? Common sense, the 'senator' no even get! Can this 'senile senator' stay 24 hours without air conditioning? He wants to take standing and ceiling fans away from the poor people! |
An undercover BBC investigation has exposed how young African footballers are being conned out of thousands of dollars by Nigerian fraudsters. One gang which was confronted pretended to be Manchester United officials working with manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Another conman was impersonating the chief talent scout for Chelsea to trick naive teenagers into wiring him cash. They prey on the thousands of amateur players who post their details online hoping to be spotted by English agents. Victims are often duped into sending money in the false belief that they are paying official registration fees to have a trial to play for their favourite English Premier League clubs. The fraudsters simply pocket the money and disappear. Registration fees For the BBC investigation, an undercover reporter played the role of the father of a young Ghanaian striker keen to make it big in England. In that guise, he contacted a man who called himself Paul Jones and claimed online to represent Manchester United. The man falsely boasted that he worked closely with Sir Alex. In e-mails and secretly recorded phone conversations, Mr Jones claimed that Sir Alex was so impressed by the BBC's fictional player that he wanted to him to come for a two-year trial. Mr Jones said that the club would coach the player to stardom once a "registration fee" of more than $7,000 (£3,500) was paid. "As soon as your child comes over here in London, the club will sponsor their food, their accommodation, all the necessary things they need in the club. So after two years of the training, if the player performs well, he will join Manchester United," Mr Jones promised in one call. In an effort to persuade the undercover reporter that his offer was genuine, Mr Jones e-mailed several fake player registration forms. The documents were headed with the club's official logo. But one obvious error was that the instructions stated the form should be addressed to legendary United manager, Sir Matt Busby - who died in 1994. Secret filming In a sting operation, the undercover reporter persuaded Mr Jones to send his assistant, a "Dr Frank Johnson" to meet him at a hotel in the Nigerian city of Lagos to receive the cash in person. SEE VIDEO HERE: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/7505699.stm At the meeting, Dr Johnson was secretly filmed as he produced another fake registration form. He assured the undercover reporter that Manchester United were keen to recruit more African players and that his son would be well provided for. "What we do is give them a good contract. That is why you have to sign as a sponsor," he said. "We will prepare an apartment for your son and give him special training so he will improve. Then we will set him up with another club or he will play with us." Dr Johnson's sales pitch was brought to an abrupt end when BBC reporter Gavin Lee and a camera crew approached and confronted him. Despite the evidence on tape, Dr Johnson initially denied he was a fake. But he later confessed that his real name was John and that he was ashamed of his actions. He was taken away and questioned by a Nigerian policeman who provided security for the sting. The BBC team was allowed to examine Dr Johnson's mobile phone and found it contained texts that suggested he was involved with scams involving victims across Africa and Europe. Several people had sent him their bank details. In the phone's directory the number for the BBC's undercover reporter was listed under "mugu" - the word used by Nigerian fraudsters to describe those that they swindle. Naivety Another conman recorded by the BBC claimed to be Mike Emenalo, the former Nigerian international player who is Chelsea's chief talent scout. The fake Mr Emenalo was brazen enough to advertise his services on a legitimate sports website. He claimed to be so impressed by the record of the BBC's fake player that he immediately offered him a trial with the club. This time the fee demanded was $4,000 (£2,000). Nigerian's Sport and Tourism Ambassador John Fashanu commended the BBC investigation for highlighting the perils faced by young African players who want to play abroad. The former Wimbledon player and England international said there needed to be greater action against the conmen who were ripping off their fellow Africans. "They have seen an opportunity to make money and they are making money off desperate young Nigerian, Ghanaian, South African, African, Third World country footballers who all want to live of professional footballers like Thierry Henri, Kanu and Jay Jay Okocha," he said. Often those who fall for scammers like this are from poor backgrounds. Their families scrape together the fees in the vain hope of giving their children a route out of poverty. Players as young as 12 post their photo, phone number, e-mail address and in some cases even their passport details online in the hope of getting an agent. Most appear to be unaware that English clubs would never demand money from a player they were considering signing. These ambitious amateurs seem largely ignorant that under immigration regulations it would be impossible for them to get a British work permit. They would not qualify as they have not played several games for their own national sides. And it is this naivety which the fraudsters exploit to ruthless effect. And while some people nearly got themselves killed, some people no comot for their Papa house at all, and they'll end up getting the best jobs in the Immigration and Prison service. What a shame! |

I am sure all their overpriced products is as a result of them not being used to thie same level of taxation that applies here in the UK. They are only transfering it to the consumer. Maybe their target market are Nigerian politicians who need to stash money away abroad. I hope all these banks won't soon be found out to be flouting the rules of practice that apply here. |

A pregnant council officer has been jailed for two years for stealing £110,000 and sending much of the money to her mother in Nigeria. Bintu Tijani, 35, a children's services manager for Peterborough City Council, drew up fake invoices to steal 10% of her department's annual budget. At Peterborough Crown Court, Tijani admitted sending £80,000 to her mother. Recorder Peter Rouch QC, told her she had committed "a sophisticated and serious fraud" in a position of trust. "You were placed in a position of significant trust and, with determination, you committed a serious and sophisticated fraud to steal a substantial sum of money, tax free." Ebraham Mooney, prosecuting, told the court Tijani had created an elaborate scheme using 12 fraudulent invoices from imaginary companies to obtain the cash. Unemployed man He said she was caught by council fraud investigators following her suspension from work on an unrelated matter in October 2007. Bintu Tijani, responsible for an annual budget of £1.2m for child support strategy, was sacked a month later and the evidence was passed to police. She got the job at the council in May 2004, despite having disclosed a criminal conviction from 10 years earlier for credit card fraud. Hugh Vass, in her defence, said his client admitted the offences at the first opportunity but could not explain where all the money had gone. "She says £80,000 was sent to her mother in Nigeria, and she was also involved with a man who was unemployed and claims she had got into debt subsidising his lifestyle. "Miss Tijani acknowledges she should feel nothing but shame and realises she has let a lot of people down." A claim to claw back Tijani's illegal profits has started under the Proceeds of Crime Act. |
@ Poster However I was given NO RECOURSE TO PUBLIC FUND (that one no wahala) but the other one that says WORK (and other changes) MUST BE AUTHORISE.(Na that one i know undastand because i go like do some small small work. You need to be sure of what our visa allows you to do and what it doesn't. 'NO RECOURSE TO PUBLIC FUNDS' means you can't claim benefits. You might be able to claim those that are dependent on National Insurance Contributions. I suggest you email them to explain 'WORK (and other changes) MUST BE AUTHORISED' to be on the safe side because of new rules below: Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules HC 321 was laid before Parliament on 6 February 2008. HC 321 amends the general grounds for refusal of an immigration application. In some cases rule-breaking migrants could be banned from applying for entry to the UK for 10 years. The results will be: Mandatory refusal of an application where false representations have made or false documents used, whether or not material to the application and whether or not the applicant knew of the falsehood. Re-entry bans for those who have overstayed, breached their conditions of leave (e.g. a student working over 20 hrs a week in term time). Those who leave within 28 days at their own expense will escape the ban. Over stayers making a voluntary departure at their own expense face a 1 year ban, during which any application for entry clearance will be refused, rising to 5 years if the departure was at the expense of the State and 10 years if the person was removed or deported, or used deception. In summary, the changes to the general grounds for refusal are: From 29 February 2008 refusal of entry clearance or leave to enter, cancellation of leave or refusal to vary leave will be mandatory where false representations have been made or false documents submitted, whether or not these are material to the application and whether or not the applicant knew that such representations were being made or documents submitted. From 1 April 2008 for those who have previously overstayed, breached their conditions of stay, entered illegally or used deception, refusal of a fresh entry clearance or leave to enter application will be mandatory for fixed periods – except those who have done no more than overstay for 28 days or less. The fixed periods are 12 months from when the person made a voluntary departure at their own expense, 5 years from when the person made a voluntary departure that was paid for and 10 years from when the person was removed or deported. In the case of a person who used deception in an entry clearance application, the fixed period will be for 10 years from the time of that deception. Once these changes come into force, any application for permission to enter or remain in the UK must be refused if any of the above rules have been breached. Congrats! Please do Nigeria proud! |
@Tbaba, What are the ulterior motives of the agents you are using? Do you have feedback from people who have used their services before? ![]() Using a sponsor in the UK and another in Nigeria will only stregthen your application. |
Having an understanding of how th Uk system works, I just can't help but wonder how illegal immigrants survive here in the UK. It will be a lot harder for them to get work now that these new rules are in place. How do they manage? How do they carry out online transactions? Do they hide their wages in their matresses? Do they have bank accounts? With this economic downturn, how will dey survive, especially if they lose their jobs or can't get one because they can't provide evidence of permission to work to their employers/ prospective employers? |
