PoliticsRe: Shame On Nigerian Police - All Because Of 50 Naira Bribe They Want To Die by seyibrown(f): 12:50am On Feb 11, 2009
What a shame! I feel for the 'oppressed' and the 'oppressor' in this case.

Who's fault is it? It's those bastards we have running this country that have turned the citizens into animals!

The government does not value the lives of its citizens, Police or the policed.

If only it were possible to privatise the 'Nigerian Police Force' and let the government pay for the protection of its citizens. I know this idea sounds crazy, but how else can we make the police force work?
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Embassy In South Africa - An Eyesore by seyibrown(f): 5:28pm On Feb 10, 2009
The problem with the embassy is nothing out of the ordinary, how is dog poo a government problem or a ministry of external affairs problem, how are unpacked gabage cars the problem of the government, how are these government problems - you said you went to the other embassies and you noticed the difference, dont you know how well behaved and well mannered those citizens are? it is the problem of the people, the Nigerians themselves, so unruly, I was at the same place you went, come and see how unruly these Nigerians were, rushing for their passports, never obeying instructions, etc - but these same Nigerians will go to these other embassies and behave very well, extremely well - so, whose problem is it? the government or the ill behaved Nigerians
@labiyemmy

I have been to the Nigerian embassy in London, the service-users were not unruly. We followed theinstructions given, took tallies,queued when directed to do so etc. The only unruly people were the staff., some even shouting at the customers. Whilst we waited patiently, I saw people who waltzed in after I came in, leave the embassy with their business done. I can only assume they had some 'connections' with the 'bosses upstairs'. We, the 'unconnected long-suffering citizens' had to wait the normal 'time-frame' to get our passports back.
RomanceRe: He's 12 Years Older Than Me And He's Shorter Than Me by seyibrown(f): 2:54pm On Feb 10, 2009
Look deep inside your heart

Do you love him?If you do, his age and height won't be a problem.

About not being free with him, you probably still need more time to get used to him,to get used to the fact that he is shorter and older than 'the man of your dreams'.

He probably loves you. Ask him to give you more time to prepare for marriage. He will wait if he loves you.

If after searching your heart, you think you can never ever come to terms with him being older and 'not tall', please don't waste his time. Tell him you are not ready and that you might need another 5 years to be 'ready' and slowly distance yourself from him.

PLEASE NEVER TELL HIM HE IS TOO SHORT FOR YOUR IDEAL MAN! DON'T 'TOUCH' HIS EGO! IT'LL KILL HIM!

This is my contribution to the original thread at https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=228564.msg3444212#msg3444212

A few suggestions:

'NIGERIANS FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE'

'NIGERIAN MOVEMENT FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE'

The above suggestions are based on what I have read on here so far. It seems a good idea to throw our weight behind people we know can bring about change in Nigeria. We can make a difference by supporting people who are are passionate about making change happen in Nigeria, People who will do all in their power to make change happen in Nigeria.

We can act by supporting and voting for people who are committed to good governance in 2011!

The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing!- Edmund Burke

Nigeria's 'good men'(and women) have done 'nothing' for ages!

Why would you believe anyone who says he left his Job abroad to join his girl in Nigeria because she couldn't join him?

She dey FBI most wanted list?

This story makes no sense to me at all!

If your story is true, She probably didn't want to join you abroad because she KNEW she didn't want a future with you!

PoliticsRe: Lagos Launches 24-hr Surveillance Camera Operation by seyibrown(f): 1:30am On Jan 15, 2009
Where will these cameras' be installed? The 'Ajegunles' and the 'Oshodis'? Or the Highbrow areas?

Will these camera's be mounted where they can capture the Nigerian police/ MOPOL demanding and taking bribes from bus drivers?

Are these Camera's indesdtructible? A picture of some drunken thug dismantling the cameras comes to my mind.

Will those caught on camera be prosecuted for their crimes? Do the Nigerian courts accept video evidence?(Not very sure that they do)

This idea sounds to me like a bloody waste of time and money. We don't need cameras, we need incorrupt law enforcement agents and government officials. I hope the monies for this project will be diverted to a more beneficial cause.

He might as well say that all women should be sacked from their jobs and kept at home.
Don't they deeply examine the implications and consequences of their suggestions and actions?
Jobs/VacanciesRe: My Embarrassing Interview Situations You Need To Learn From by seyibrown(f): 1:33am On Nov 25, 2008
My first job interview was with a Bank. I had passed the situational shift, the online test and the telephone interview.

I went for the interview and the first part was fine. It was a very relaxed atmosphere as I had digested the Bank's up-to-date info. The last part of the interview was supposed to be 'ROLE PLAY'(I saw lots of leather and handcuffs). The thought of that made me start laughing. The lady gave me the information I needed on as sheet and left the room for 15minutes so that I could get ready. I was to Play the role of Service advisor and she would play customer. When she came back, I went through the first 5 lines and then just burst out laughing because I couldn't handle it anymore. I was standing there pretending to be looking at an 'absent bank card' while waiting to show her how to use an 'absent self-service machine' and trying to get her to switch a 'non-existing credit-card account' to 'our bank'.

I got an email the next day that said I should go and get 6 months experience and come back.

I cried and my husband said don't cry, just keep attending interviews till you get rid of all the laughing gas in your system.

I then applied for 10 jobs with another organisation. 4 Different job titles and responsibilities but different locations nationwide.
The first interview went well apart from the fact that I could still feel the eyes of the two women interviewers boring into me for the next one week. I felt like they thought something was odd about me. The remaining interviews were fine too except that I had to ask my interviewers what the title of the job interview we were holding was as I couldn't remember which was which.

I did get 3 job offers at the end of the day and 1 of them was the one with the women who kept looking at me like something was wrong with me. I chose the one with the highest pay for lesser hours.

Christianity EtcRe: 'child-witches' Of Nigeria Seek Refuge by seyibrown(f): 2:11am On Nov 13, 2008
I watched the program today and my heart goes out to all those little kids.

I know kids and adults get branded witches but I didnt know it got to the extent of leaving sending kids as young as five out of their home because they are possessed or pouring acid on them or starving them to death. They even put a nail in one girl's head and she's gone mentally ill.

How can parents let people abuse their own children ? Beating the crap out of children does not chase any demons out of them? When will these parents wake up and see they are being exploited by these fake pastors?

It's so heartbreaking!

I hope the Akwa-Ibom state government ensures that all those who treat kids like that face the wrath of the law!

@Gamine

I am seriously beginning to doubt the authenticity and/or use of your 'COVENANT UNIVERSITY DEGREE'.

@Topic

Nobody deserves to be harassed or assaulted by anyone else, uniformed or not. It is such a shame that Nigerians are subjected to this kind of treatment everyday everywhere in Nigeria. Ms Okere is lucky that her father is a 'somebody'. I pity others who don't have anyone to speak out on their behalf.

I do hope this brings about the abolition of such treatment in Nigeria.

God help us!

@Kokorunna,

What category does a 'student with no valid documents' fall under?
TravelRe: Baby Born In The Uk By A Student by seyibrown(f): 5:24pm On Oct 03, 2008
If the mother is a citizen or legal resident with 'indefinite leave to remain' at the time of the child's birth, the child automatically qualifies.

If both parents are not citizens or do not have 'indefinite leave to remain' at the time of the child's birth, the child will not automatically qualify.
Christianity EtcRe: Falling Under Anointing - Hoax, Real Or Hypnosis? by seyibrown(f): 6:17pm On Sep 29, 2008
It is real in some places and it is demonic in some.

My family attended this church for like 10 years and I never felt the presence of God but people would fall, jump, cry, speak in tongues and prophesy. It turned out the pastor was using demonic powers at the end of the day.

I now know that something isn't right in a meeting if I don't feel the presence of God.

'Falling under the annointing doesn't neccesarily mean you fall to the floor'
