Who made the rules and requirements of marriage? Did your ancestors ever had a surname? Where is it written in the Bible and the Qur'an that a married woman must take her husband's surname? It is a western culture. Have you so lost your way that you now worship a white man's marital culture? Isn't it hypocritical that one minute you are shouting our culture and the next you are eroding it? Do you know that once upon a time in the western world women did not take their husbands' names. It is an innovation. Put your hand where your mouth is, make your ancestors proud and say no to westernisation of African culture . In my culture, a child is identified by her father not her husband or wife. You should be glad we are not asking the child to take her mother's name. That should be enough for you. openmine: I never made her but she decided to change her name out of her own volition.. ..she knew what she was getting into hence she is required to abide by the rules and requirements of marriage... just like MRS Clinton did.... So why would she change her mind and start being addressed in her dad's surname all of a sudden?
Its a choice but I guess U won't understand because u r fixed on that tag called feminism....
Am a 100% sure this same moniker quoting me will surely jump at the offer of getting ur Hubby's surname esp if its that of a wealthy man like dangote... but U are right here on this faceless forum forming feminism....
And please try to be straightforward and precise with ur indirect attacks in form of unnecessary questions aimed at me....its My life and my choice...not ur business...comprendo? |

A Nigerian without an American citizenship rose to a position of influence and opinion shaping without ever been in politics.
You think that is not more impressive than whatever Michelle Obama has accomplished?
When was the last Michelle Obama won an award in her field of study which is law? Her highest achievement is first lady. Don't ever insult chimamanda by making that comparison again.

I am glad you agree with what I wrote but I don't agree with yours. Hillary is a proud wife of an influential man. She is also an influential woman. Michelle Obama is also a proud wife of an ex president and likewise a successful woman. Both women independently of their husbands have achieved a lot in their personal and professional lives. Their husbands need not be influential for them to be proud wives. Chimamanda's husband is not weak or less of a man because he is not influential and his wife is not bearing his surname. If we that were the case, I would ask you who the hell you are to criticise Arichie when you haven't achieved half of what she has achieved wven though you are a man But I beg to differ becausr these points simply do not matter. They are not addressing the issue. eezeribe: Chimamanda can dissect Hillary Clinton as much as she likes;but one thing remains certain, the likes of Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama will forever remain more highly rated than Ngozi Adichie... Hillary Clinton is a proud WIFE of former US president and one of the most influential men in the world,Bill Clinton;while Chimamanda remains the wife of a nobody,a man who is so weak that his wife can't even bear his surname. I have nothing against TRUE FEMINISM,but there is a thin line between COMMON SENSE and NONSENSE. |

Clinton is ambitious. No qualms about that. But she is dishonest, bitter calculative, rude and condescending. Clinton would call a goat her brother for political favours. If she had chosen to use wife and mother on her Twitter bio to change political opinions, she laid her bed so shall she lie on it. Perhaps if she had tried to be a good person, she would not have had to convince anyone. She is a politician. Most politicians try to change public opinion od themselves while contesting. America has had male politicians that tried to show that they uphold family values to please their electorate. I do not see you screaming sexism.
I agree that powerful and ambitious women face gender bias. I call out those gender biases. But these gender biases do not apply to Clinton. She is who she is. If pretence was what she needed, I am glad she got in line. She is like every politician. Let her be one! 3 Likes 1 Share |

You are beginning to get ahead oof d yourself You qupted a source of just one country and you consider it fact around the world? What are you on? FYI, there are countries who appoint doctors as CEOs or business administrators. Mobsync: I know what I wrote up there.
Everywhere, the role of a CEO is an oversight function. He coordinates other departments under him to achieve a goal.
In the case of foreign hospitals, the CEO coordinates other departments as you rightfully suggested. He is also the head of management and runs the hospital with the aid of the Chief Operating Officer.
The CMD has nothing to do with management. He is only in charge of the doctors in the hospital. And yes, he goes to the ward and surgery because he is considered a doctor and not an administrator.
Foreign hospitals have an executive management board headed by the CEO with the CMO/CMD (Chief Medical Officer) and CNO (Chief Nursing Officer) as members alongside other chiefs.
Here in Nigeria, the office of the CEO has been merged with that of the CMD just to satisfy the greed of doctors.
At the end of the day, the doctor can no longer perform his basic task since he has been bogged down by administrative duties he shouldn't have been doing in the first instance.
If I may ask, with the exception of private hospitals, how many doctors here in Nigerian hospitals still go to the wards after becoming CMD?
None, I must say. They wouldn't even have the time if they wanted to. |

Apologies! But you do know that the goal of most doctors is to become chief physicians/consultants or have their own hospitals. Mobsync: How do Hospital CEOs get to where they are?
In studying this list of “20 New Hospital CEOs to Know”, it seems that most of the CEOs have a couple things in common:
They served as COOs of hospitals before. COO, the Chief Operating Officer, delegates day to day operations and reports to the CEO, who is usually too busy to review production quotas and operations daily.
They held a Masters in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or Nursing from an accredited university.
They held previous positions in strategic management, business and executive leadership. (Meaning medical expertise isn’t all CEOs need to have!) They had about 15 or more years of experience in healthcare before they became the CEOs of major hospitals. (Patience is a must.) |

@OP, it is better you ask questions than assume. Have you asked the health professionals what the roles and responsibilities of consultant nurses and the rest would be? I do not think they would include that of a doctor or a consultant doctor. That can never happen. Medical doctors do not need to get worked up. |

Doctors cannot disrespect other health professional. If you are in the medical profession because you want to continue to be a bully, I hope you get what you deserve. Arrogant prick! OgaInnocent: Point of correction. Doctors can disrespect other health professionals because they are not their rivals. But if there is disrespect by nigerian doctors to JOHESU, it is simply reactionary due to their (JOHESU) continued challenge of the doctors. Imagine a graduate of medical laboratory science hanging stethoscope on his neck and saying he is a diagnostic doctor. Can u imagine that? Does that happen in your civilized setting?
In Nigeria, every one working in the hospital is answering a doctor. Doctors can't just fold hand and watch them. So any action by the doctors is reactionary. Otherwise, what does a doctor gain by victimizing a nurse who has done him no wrong. But when a nurse starts claiming he /she can do what d doctors can do...I wonder!! My brother, just reason that. |

I forgot to also use the word encourage. Some women use it as a yardstick to filter guys. I usedused to know of one that wouldn't marry a guy that is not ready to marry more wives. She is married now with kids but her husband is yet to marry more wives. There is a female particular nairalander that wouldn't mind her husband doing same, this was her opinion before she got married and after. They were not stupid or lazy or suffer from low self-esteem . These are women that can hold their own. They will even teach their husbands' wives how to prepare his favourite meals. Some women also see it as charity that is their own charity to single women. Some encourage it because of their careers, they want matital obligations to tie them down. Some encourage it because it allows them to live the single live while they also enjoy the benefits of being married. You don't need to be close minded about it. Some women are growing to accept or encourage polygamy. You are not the same as the next person. Personally, it is a no. But who knows after marriage I may love myself too much to care. Biglittlelois: You actually dont know much, you said the word "accept" which means she has no other choice but to live with it, infact all you said points to that fact, but this one is a whole new level, she fed her, hug or held her and she looks happy. No lady who has to "accept" cos there is no other choice would go through the trouble of doing that |
