Maria-Goretti:
Destruction is covered by grace for now? Really?
Why do we still have the image of jesus crucified?
And by the way, we do not worship Mary..we honour her same way she was honoured by God....and the trinity has always been before the begining of the world...Mary was chosen to bring the saviour to the world..She was a special being, specially preped for the task..
Nne, you owe her no explanation, she is presently interested in gossips and half truths as I've read from her numerous copy and paste here and else where. When she is ready for truth, she will do more of listening. By their fruit ye shall know them.

superior1: Thought provoking

Hebrews 4:15
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been
tempted as we are, yet without sin.

We do not need anyone in heaven to help us in begging Jesus to answer our prayers. He understands us because He was once like us. Catholics have the impression Jesus is one hard hearted spoilt King that needs His mother to keep begging Him continuously for favors.

Nun Mary just finished praying to Mary, Mary will quickly stand up from her chair and go to Jesus

Mary: Jesus please please and please, Nun Mary said she needs a good catholic friend
Jesus: No Mum!!!, there is superior1 for her to befriend

Mary: No, No, No Jesus, superior1 is an unrepentant Bible preacher
Jesus: Ok, lets see what we can do for her.

Now, since Mary is not omnipresent, how does she handles 1 billion catholics prayer if they need some favorshuh
1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

In the quote above, St.Paul made it clear that the saints in heaven will be illuminated by God to know so much. Indeed for him, he will know even as he is known. Imagine how much Paul is known, it is all God's work, do not doubt. However it is still clear that no one forces devotion to mary on you, it is you who go into any thread written "Mary" to air your opinion. You have decided not to think deeply into why you believe what you believe, so it is better for you to continue with the prayer I had earlier taught you " Lord teach me to keep my mouth shut until I know what I am talking about ". Amen.

I came late...don't even have much time, will read the whole thread later. Wow did anyone realise that Mary greeted Elizabeth and she was filled with Holy Spirit? Many today claim to be in possesion of the "Holy Spirit" that does not have any thing to do with Mary. Do we wonder why they interprete and teach differently what is written in scriptures? Numerous are the diverse teachings.

The assumption came after the ascension, those two hearts can never be separated. Maranatha!

Christianity EtcRe: Catholic Cardinal Says Adam And Eve Didn’t Exist by Syncan(m):
BERNIMOORE: the problem here is not about the timing, as you want to change the topic, but rather

cardinal pell could not imagine that 'all people could decend from a single pair of parent(adam and eve) as a source

this can be seen from the way he stated that "According to Genesis"

"According to Genesis, God created Adam and Eve as the first man and woman and all people are descended from them"

rather than forcing timing on this issue, the cardinal was only expressing that he does not see where adam and eve 'fits in' in the human's existence. He is not sure that adam/eve can be responsible for the source of our existence!

simply put; he cast doubt on our source of existence, by fighting the holy scripture!
I think you are allowing sentiments to lead what you infer, I see nothing wrong in the bolded, where else was the account taken from, exodus? You accuse him of what I cannot see in his speech, if you can say when the first human lived, please let's know.

Christianity EtcRe: Catholic Cardinal Says Adam And Eve Didn’t Exist by Syncan(m):
The term mythology can refer either to a
collection of myths (a mythos , e.g., Inca
mythology) or to the study of myths (e.g.,
comparative mythology).

[1] According to Alan Dundes , a myth is a sacred narrative explaining how the world and humankind assumed their present form,

[2] although, in a very broad sense, the word can refer to any traditional story .

[3] Bruce Lincoln defines myth as "ideology in narrative form".

[4] Myths may arise as either truthful
depictions or overelaborated accounts of
historical events, as allegory for or
personification of natural phenomena, or as
an explanation of ritual . They are
transmitted to convey religious or idealized
experience, to establish behavioral models,
and to teach .

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mythology

Whoever can prove the story of Adam and eve with historic or archeological evidence should do so, Stories that are selective, ie depend on faith or gullibility of the individual for its veracity cannot escape being called a myth. Note that a myth may later be verified as truth, it didn't mean it was not true all along, it is however truthfulness to call a spade its right name at the point of questioning.

striktlymi: Hmmmm....

Sync I do understand your passion for the Church and all it stands for but please work with me here a bit as I try to explain.

I NEVER voted in the last presidential election for one reason. There was no candidate worth voting for. Goodluck seem to be the obvious choice but I refused to vote for him for one reason: HE IS INDECISIVE WHEN MAKING DECISIONS!!!

He makes one pronouncement today only to change it tomorrow because of some pressure somewhere. I will understand it if Ishi tender an apology if, and only if, she broke any of the rules of nairaland.

For her to stick by her convictions is something to be admired. Get it clear that I do not like what she said but that should not form the basis of my judgement. If that does then I would be biased.

If she had come out to apologise when no rule was broken, then I would have withdrawn my support for her. She would have lost my respect.

Sync Ishi is yet to understand the Church as you do. Please don't expect her to have the same opinion about the Church as you have. If she does have the same opinion then it means she is necessarily Catholic.

For the avoidance of doubt, the following are the reasons I believe she will make a great mod:

1) She is firm when she has to. Her not recanting her comment bears testimony to this.
2) She does not take shyt from anyone. Seun did wrong and she told it to his face, point blank.
3) She seem not to know how to keep a grudge. She tell you off now and the next minute she is cracking a joke with you.
4) She tries to keep her sentiments aside when relating with people.
5) She is yet to attack an individual (that I am aware of) personally. She focuses on the issue, not the person.
6) She says her mind without mincing words and puts it across in a way that should not offend the individual.
7) Etc.

I know you might not agree with the above but she has demonstrated those qualities over time and she has my vote.
Ok bro, It was just an observation. I guess you have a better knowledge. God bless you.

Jesus loves you wink. Mwaaaah!! grin
Your comment was your Opinion and I indeed respected it, until you declared interest in becoming a Mod. This puts you in a position of authority over my posts, all you needed was to reassure the Catholics that your view wont interfere with your acts as a mod. For me though...with the bolded any day,You are cleared grin

striktlymi: Sorry sync but I am quite disappointed that you have been here for some time and you allow the events of a few days cloud your sense of good judgement.

You KNOW full well about some of my stance which most often than not is ridiculed and rejected but still I do not shirk in my beliefs. Do you honestly believe that all I have done or say in the past few days are a deviation from what I would have done or say ordinarily?

I really care less about what people say or think about me because that does not define the ME I KNOW. Anyways, if you have a problem with the comment I made there, then you just have to live with it because I will NOT change it.

For the records, you can go through this post: https://www.nairaland.com/1145639/does-quran-permit-suicide#13594142 I made some time in December last year. This was when the death of my Uncle at the hands of Bokoharam was still fresh. Check to see if my thoughts then are any different from my thoughts now.

PS: Note that I did not try to explain anything to @tpia because it was NOT needed. You are my brother hence the need to clarify.
I am aware of your rational thoughts, I have even engaged you on a particular issue. Yet I have never thought of you as one to quckly run to the defence of someone who said "The catholic church is a joke". Who even as we speak has offered no retraction or explanation since the issue was raised.

It is still false and indeed a lie to say that the Bible did not exist until the 4th century.

Pope Pius IX: By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, for the honor of the Holy and undivided Trinity, for the glory and adornment of the Virgin Mother of God, for the exaltation of the Catholic Faith, and for the furtherance of the Catholic religion, by the authority of Jesus Christ our Lord, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and by our own: "We declare, pronounce, and define that the doctrine which holds that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin, is a doctrine revealed by God and therefore to be believed firmly and constantly by all the faithful.

"Just as Eve, wife of Adam, yet still a virgin, became by her disobedience the cause of death for herself and the whole human race, so Mary, too, espoused yet a Virgin, became by her obedience the cause of salvation for herself and the whole human race.... And so it was that the knot of Eve's disobedience was loosed by Mary's obedience. For what the virgin Eve bound fast by her refusal to believe, this the Virgin Mary unbound by her belief".

St. Irenaeus of Lyon (died.202AD), great defender of Christian orthodoxy.(learnt under Polycarp, who in turn learnt under St. John the beloved apostle)

Ave Maria!
Christianity EtcRe: On The Most Blessed Virgin Mary- Teachings Of The Early Church Fathers- by Syncan(m):
Maria-Goretti:
can someome expplain 2 Corinthians 12 vs 7-10?
"And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

12:8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong".

St. Paul in verse 7 talks about the lord taking care to prevent him from the terrible vice of pride(the bane of charisms), that precedes the destruction of the mighty (prov16:18). To Paul, God has revealed what he taught the apostles directly, taking him even to the "third heavens" etc,so he had every reason to be proud. Yet he had a "thorn", could be a physical health case, suggested by "in the flesh", or a spiritual defect, suggested by "messenger of satan",all the same, permitted by God,which constantly reminds him of his humanity and prevents pride from setting in. This tells of how loving, caring and watchful the good Shepherd is when it comes to His sheep.

Verse 8 talks about his countless prayers and pleading that God should remove this "thorn" from him

verse 9 The lord assures him instead; that despite this weakness being present in him,His grace will ensure that he does not fall into gravely displeasing Him, eg,through grudging impatiently (in terms of physical health) or falling into a deadly Sin(due to a spiritual defect). The more he realizes how human he is, the more he flies to God for help, who then supplies His grace according to his needs

Verse 10. Having now been schooled by the great teacher himself to humility, he is more docile to accept insults, pains and hardships, knowing that the more he acknowledges his nothingness, the more his glory in the eyes of the God.

italo: Folks, there is something that has always amazed me.

At the wedding in Cana, after Jesus gave Mary a dismissive answer when she said to him: "they have no more wine," she said to the servants: "do whatever he tells you."

How did she know Jesus would answer her request, and how did she know he would do it through the servants?

He could have provided wine any other way possible.
Love is an amazing thing. The more two hearts are united in love, the closer the distance between them, the less they need speech to communicate. Even when they speak, more is said in silence. It reminds me of Abraham and God in Gen 18. God said he is going to see what's happening in sodom and gomorrah, but Abraham heard more than just that, so he started a negotiation against the destruction which was not even mentioned...so my dear brother, I blame it on love. Those two hearts, Jesus and mary, are united in love. More was said in silence than in speech.
