Great job... If this actuali happens, GEJ wud have suceeded in Entirely Rehabilitating and bringing to life more than 3000kms of Comatose/near Comatose narrow Guage rail lines (PH-Maiduguri, Lagos-Kano and their many Spur Lines) in less than 3 years- a feat that previous Govts had FAILED to do in more than 25 years regardless of huge money and effort spent. These, and the New Standard Modern Rail Lines (Aladja-Ajaokuta-Ore-Warri, Abuja-Kaduna, Abuja Metro, Lagos-Ibadan Lines) under various stages of construction, as well as Feasibility Studies for about 10 new proposed Routes.
The Entire Eastern, Eastern NorthCentral and NorthEastern Nigeria may now be OPEN for more business, in terms of Goods and People, after a reali long time.
God bless this President.. |

ANOTHER PROMISE KEPT: Julius Berger Completes Abuja National Stadium Rehabilitation The rehabilitation of Abuja National Stadium's main bowl football pitch has been completed by Julius Berger PLC and will be handed over to the government on Tuesday.
Special Assistant on Media and Strategy to the Minister of Sports, Julius Ogunro made this known on Monday in Abuja.
Last week, the Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi revealed the Commission's plan for the regular maintenance of the pitch after the handover.
The contract to rehabilitate the Main Bowl pitch was awarded to Julius Berger in January this year, after a disruption of power supply to the stadium affected the regular wetting of the pitch which made it to be overgrown by weed.
The scope of work completed by Julius Berger includes, removal and replacement of the topsoil; planting the approved specie of grass, well watered and nourished until roots are established; and maintenance of the pitch, including watering and trimming of the grass.
It also provided new water sprinklers for the stadium.
The Programme
Ogunro said as part of activities marking the handover, Nigeria's U17 Men's Football team (Golden Eaglets) will take on local side, Amakson Soccer Academy, in a friendly match.
"Secondary schools in Abuja will also participate in athletics competitions," he added.
According to him, there will be performances by the country's leading comedians and musicians. http://dailytrust.info/index.php/news/5623-julius-berger-completes-abuja-national-stadium-pitchhttp://img.naij.com/sports/04/3/abuja_national_stadium98990.jpg |

NIMET Develops Numeric Weather Prediction Capability The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has developed a numeric weather prediction capability.
The effort which the agency called NIMET-COSMOS-Model is a cutting edge technique of weather prediction using models of the atmosphere and computational techniques. This is just as it said it would seek ISO Certification for its state-of-the art instrument calibration workshop.
Director-General of NIMET, Dr Anthony Anuforom, who made this disclosure during a media briefing at the National Weather and Climate Forecasting Centre (NWCFC) in Abuja, weekend, said the equipment, when commercialised, would generate about N20billion annually and would revolutionise the way weather forecasting is done.
Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) is used by specialised weather forecasting agencies all over the world, but NIMET said its NWP cosmos –model, which has a partial resolution of 7 kilometres, uses local parameters more relevant to the nation’s environment and this sets it apart from other NWPs used elsewhere making NIMET the only agency in the world with the German-built equipment.
According to him, the equipment with several applications in the marine, environment, agriculture sectors of the economy among others, would enhance safety in the nation’s aviation sector by generating useful products.
Anuforom, who said that the UK Meteorological Office generated about N50billion in 2012, by commercialising its weather forecast technology services to the relevant sectors of the British economy, added that the agency would soon toe the same line using its NWP cosmos model for massive revenue generation.
“We are going to have a sheet in realising our goals by commercialising the NWP for revenue generation. It will do a lot for us in achieving this goal. It will assist in promoting safety in the aviation sector.
“If UK Met can make about N50 billion per annum in 2012 for rendering weather forecast services, NIMET through the NWP should be able to make at least N20 billion.”
Anuforom regretted that with the exception of operators in the aviation sector, no other organisation or corporate body patronise the agency in terms of weather forecast service stressing that as soon as sensitisation efforts were completed, the agency would spare no time in commercialising its products as was the practice all over the world http://leadership.ng/news/160913/nimet-develops-numeric-weather-prediction-capability |

NAMA begins calibration of Navigational equipment at airports
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, (NAMA) has commenced calibration of navigational equipment at some airports and en route stations across the country to enhance air safety.
According to statement by the Agency on Sunday, the calibration exercise started at the weekend in Lagos with the routine calibration of the two Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), Very High Omni-directional Radio Range/Distance Measuring Equipment (VOR/DME) and the Path Approach Precision Indicator (PAPI) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
Equipment being calibrated include the recently installed ILS/DME, CVOR/DME at Enugu airport, Makurdi and Kanji.
The newly installed air field lighting system at Makurdi will equally be flight- checked by Flight Calibration Services of the United Kingdom using DA42 multi-purpose platform aircraft.
Other navigational aids being calibrated are Conventional Omni-Directional Radio Frequency (CVOR), Instrument Landing System (ILS), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) Very High Omni-Directional Radio Frequency (VOR) all located in Uyo, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt.
Similarly, Communication radio coverage check for Lagos and Kano area control centres will be undertaken during the calibration exercise.
The Managing Director of the Agency Engineer Mazi Nnamdi Udoh, disclosed that the exercise would last for fourteen days, explaining that the calibration of the navaids would assist in putting all the navigational aids in proper shape at these airports and en-route stations.
NAMA’s boss appealed to airlines to support the Agency in its safety drive by clearing their outstanding debts. http://citizensplatform.net/2013/09/nama-begins-calibration-of-navigational-equipment-at-airports/ |

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has installed installed seven brand new X-ray scanning machines at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, five at the cargo basement of the international terminal, one at the Hajj and Cargo terminal and another at the airport’s domestic terminal 1, FAAN spokesman, Mr. Yakubu Dati, has said.
This he said is in addition to existing security equipment at the airport. He said all the other airports in the county are also benefitting from the installation of these new scanning machines, which include cargo screening machines, carry-on screening machines, hand-held metal detectors, 3-D body scanners, hold baggage screening machines and walk-through metal detectors. “These scanners will help to ensure increased security surveillance of outgoing baggage destined for aircraft bulk hold. This is in addition to the CCTV cameras installed within the airports, which will ensure that illegal or unapproved luggage are not loaded onto the aircraft. It will also help check pilfering of luggage” he said. He said the provision of these new security equipment was also necessitated by the expansion and remodelling of airports, the structural designs of which were altered. http://weeklytrust.com.ng/index.php/new-news/13966-faan-installs-7-new-scanners-at-mma |

Nigeria realised about $900million from the export of Cocoa and Cocoa products in 2012. This was disclosed weekend by the federal government
Minister of Trade and Investment, Olusegun Agaqnga, represented by the acting permanent secretary, Mr Olakunle Sogboola, stated this during the National Sensitisation Workshop of the project on Sanitary PhytoSanitary Standards Capacity Building in Africa in Abuja.
Aganga, who noted that cocoa was the second largest foreign exchange earner after crude oil for the country and generates over two million jobs directly and indirectly along its value chain, said the global market for the product was very huge, growing at an average of three per cent per annum.
Relying on statistics, the minister pointed out that Nigeria’s cocoa export and cocoa products have equally grown over the years by an average of 40 per cent per annum and a cumulative of 280 per cent from $215million in 2006 to $822.8million last year.
He added: “Nigeria is the world’s 4th largest producer and exporter of cocoa. Paradoxically, over 90 per cent of the cocoa produced is exported, our domestic consumption of this strategic commodity is barely three per cent.Given this scenario, not only is increased local consumption encouraged, the pursuance of value addition in our export drive has also become the ultimate goal of substantially reducing the export of raw cocoa and ensuring stable and improved income for our farmers.”
The minister noted that, the primary goal of the country was to secure a sustainable market for cocoa and cocoa products as well as effort to protect food safety and treats of pesticides and contaminants to human health.
“It is expected that at the end of the implementation of this project in Nigeria, we would have trained adequate personnel capable of conducting in-depth analysis of cocoa and other food products, in addition to well-equipped and functional laboratories, which will conform to any SPS regulation anywhere in the world, ” he added.
Aganga said that his ministry and the federal ministry of agriculture would continue to encourage the development of farmers and commodity associations for proper orientation and education on SPS issues with a view to promoting and strengthening global market access for the nation’s agricultural and non-oil products. http://leadership.ng/nga/articles/49717/2013/03/11/nigeria_makes_900m_export_cocoa_products.html |
