Mediocrity and wastage at its best. The villa has had 6 occupants before GEJ and none of them saw the need to build a banquet hall to hold events and live broadcasts, even Abacha with all the profligate spending he is known for made do with what was on ground and a GEJ who gives the impression that he wants to be Frugal wants to build a hall for his Convenience. The International Conference Centre is there for any national event and it isn't a must for presidents' to hold events at the villa. Why should a space be reserved as the first lady's conference room and the president won't have a place to receive visitors? Na first lady we vote for? I also didn't know that its become a big deal to connect telephone lines at this age and time! Yeye dey smell. |
djustice: May God Almighty punish you, Fashola, Tinubu, Ashafa, Mrs. Awofisayo, Muri-Okunola, Olowolafe, Oforiokuma and EVERYONE involved in that giant scam called Lekki-Epe Toll Road. May every suffering endured by the poor tax-paying residents of Lekki be multiplied a thousand fold on your heads and those of your descendants for generations to come. For every child you have denied an education, may your children be mis-educated and turned into vagabonds. As you wish for others so shall it be for you. Fcking dregs of humanity! |
deletrue: Go through your comment again and i quote " while it is commendable that we have made tangible progress, it is not worth celebrating yet" unquote. Read that remarks again. Does it make meaning or sense? Try to embrace any improvement no matter how small it is! Bloody dullard and haterSo you were expecting me to be a butt kissing suckups like you? I don't owe any dyslexia patient an explanation so "Burger" Off! |
This is like telling Nigerians to shut their mouths. Acording to Diezani's analogy, if you(Nigerians) demand for transparency and accountability in the subsidy scheme you should also be set to bear the consequences, if you had not demanded for transparency you wouldn't be experiencing scarcity and hike in price. Guess we should suffer for a crime committed By thieving government officials and their cronies. How many PPPRA, DPR, Ministry of Finance, DMO, customs, CBN and NNPC officials who were active accomplices in the monumental fraud have been sacked and prosecuted? How can there be transparency and accountability when we still have the same fraudulent officials retaining their positions? Well, fuel scarcity is a part of Fresh Air! |
ballabriggs: They find it difficult to understand why people will not buy their lies anymore. They have blamed Tinubu, at a time they said it was Buhari and El-Rufai, now they blame it on OBJ. They have even gone to the extent of using what Sonala Olumhense calls "condescension as an instrument of state policy", "Shut up! We are making progress", you see it everyday on Nairaland. Jona even went on air to say "Nigerians are always looking for negatives", President of the Federal Republic?Word!!! Though expect the Villa Courtiers to come label you as an "opposition" and enemy of the state! |
occam: TI result is ony one data source. Smart minds will analyze and ovrelay with information elsewhere to get a picture of what's happening. Dumb people (like you) imbibe the data and accept it as gospel truth without putting things in context. Bet you don't understand thatBros, TI's Corruption perception index comprises of 17 data sources and each country must satisfy a minimum of 3 data sources. The data sources used to compile the index include questions relating to the abuse of public power and focus on: bribery of public officials, kickbacks in public procurement, embezzlement of public funds, and on questions that probe the strength and effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts in the public sector. As such, it covers both the administrative and political aspects of corruption. Me believe that we have not made any meaningful stride with this latest ranking |
taharqa: Una see anoda one? Bros did u get that info Gej spends #1billion to feed himself and dat he hasn't cut it? These are d sort of lies u guys say repeatedly... How can sm ppl bliv dier own lies, even afta repeating itBros u serious o! |

Bunch of thieving politicians across party lines. Those who ordinarily should be in jail are now party leaders. If dem like make then throw themselves bomb, na dem sabi. |
gregg2: Fresh Air!!!Na wa for this your voodoo ranking. How can 4 countries tie at 137 and a different country from the four will be awarded the "138th" position. |
Sincere 9gerian: Slow but Steady, Nigeria is making progress. Nigeria Climbed Up 4 Places in the latest Transparency International, 2012, Anti-Corruption Index. Nigeria was scored 27 or 2.7 (rated from 0 to 100 or 0 to 10 as the case may be) this year compared to 2.4 (rated from 0 to 10) in 2011.Congrats on this conquest of yours. Nigeria was the 37th Most corrupt nation according to the 2011 report and now we are 35th Most corrupt nation. We share a position with Kenya which according to Gallup is the most corrupt country in the world. We shall surely dance Azonto to it! |
@Sincere9gerian, I didn't know you are dyslexic. If you had taken your time to discern my post probably you wouldn't have made your silly assertion that my post smacks of propaganda. I earlier commended our progress and added that our "Ranking" is partly due to the number of countries surveyed in 2011 and 2012 respectively. I did not rubbish our "Score". |
If we complain some bigoted and sentimental foo.ls will raise inane and jejune excuses that we are fond of criticising a spendthrift government. This is the height of profligacy and not until our anger level rises to a higher decibel and we start shaming this government, we will all quench in our silent anguish. |
@Sincere9gerian, while its commendable that we've made tangible progress, this isn't worth celebrating yet. In 2011, Nigeria ranked 143 out of 182 while in 2012 we ranked 139 out of 176 so our moving up 4 places is partly due to the Fact that survey wasn't carried out in 6 countries for 2012 though our score improved. Note that The Corruption Perception Index is not designed to allow for Country Scores to be compared over time. This is because the index draws on a Country's Rank in the original data sources, rather than its Score. |
Talking about open government, let me repeat a question i have never received answers to. How much does Fashola spend on food per year? How much does Obama, Camero, Hollande and Ghanaian governments spend on food per annum. We know that states collect a percentage of the savings of of the SURE fund. How is YOUR state governor using his share of it. Answers to this will tell you how much progress we have made in running an open government.
Isn't that what we should all push boundaries for? The system we run is too opaque hence the enormous corruption. Note that the Transparency International ratings is based on a survey of corruption "perception" index. On the Sure P fund, how do you expect Nigerians to perceive and have faith in it when the chairman of the committee recently said the committee spent over N2 billion on "secretariat services" in less than a year. Over to you! |
Its commendable though Government will need to be more consistent. This doesn't diminish the public perception that public office holders and civil servants are corrupt not until we start running an open government. The fight against graft should be seen and not on some committees recommendations, probe panel reports or white papers! |
It is silly for a government to displace 30000 traders from their source of income, if there is urgent need to build a digital village, the traders should aslo be resettled. A lot of people depend on this second hand clothing and that is also d source of income for others |
taharqa: Let me cut the chase and go straight to my questn : Kaduna Refinery was built in 1980; Warri Refinery in 1978; Port Harcourt 1 in 1965 and Port Harcourt 2 in 1989; Buhari ruled 1983-1985.... What were u saying again about refineries bn built during his time. Am just interestd in d claim cos one of u listd 'facilitating' the building of refineries to me as one of his 5 greatest achievements when he was president... I just want to be clear plzNot interested in the topic. Buhari did not build any refinery but he expanded the total domestic refining capacity of the refineries to the current 445000bpd guess that is an achievement on its own |

taharqa: Come on SHUT that ya mouth there bo! Which 'large budget' is dat? The a little above #100billion that d Ministry of Works receives as budgetary fund each year for both constructing and rehabilitating federal roads that span and are scattered across all d states or what? Go and ask Fashola hw much he is using to construct d beautiful expanded Bagadry Express road (and may God bless him for dat, although we pray they fasten d gud job)? And dat is just one road in a state. If not for SURE-P and odas, do u think d Min of Works wud even dream of undataking d considerable amount of constructn and rehabilitatn works currently going on simultaneously across d country? Abi, u too say na d about #100billion budget money (inclusive of salaries and overhead) dem they use?..... Sm of u wud just be posting comments 'anyhow' cos commenting is free on NL; maybe its time for Seun and co to start tolling comments here sef, lolAgreed. But they should be an alternative approach if those roads are to be tolled. Government does not have the fund to get most of these roads fixed on time as budgetary allocation for them comes in piecemeal except if they will seek for external loan which will also increase our burgeoning debt profile. The best panacea is to form a PPP arrangement with genuine and reputable construction companies or investors so that they can generate back funds through tolling. Note that I am not in support of full concessionaring the roads for DBOT to private companies. |
I do not think it conforms with universal electoral practices. Citizens can decide not to exercise their voting right if they are dissatisfied with the arrangement on ground, undecided voters can also abstain from the polls. Me think one of the biggest problems for now affecting our electoral system is Voters Apathy so having a "None of the Above" option on ballot papers will not really be the solution for electoral malpractices or to express dissatisfaction since most people are uninterested but I can reckon with you that if the total vote cast isn't up to a certain percentage of registered voters due to voters apathy and dissatisfaction with the whole process, a re-run should be called for. I'll prefer a clause for Independent candidacy inserted in the existing electoral act. |

karl max: "The minister, who inspected the rehabilitation works being carried out by the two contractors, Messrs Julius Berger Plc, and Reynolds Construction Company Limited yesterday, said the cost of rehabilitating failed sections of the road was the same rate applied in 2010 in carrying out similar works on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. There is really no limit to stupidity. So you expect me to investigate another contract awarded in 2010 when it would cost the minister nothing to simply say it by himself. Is that what you call Transparency? Is that how an open government and due process is carried out? I am surprised that the cost of a contract awarded in 2010 can be used to award another in 2012? Inflation no d reach d contractors side? Pls attempt not to reply this post, butt licking suck ups! |
taharqa: @take dat. The article explaind the diff bw Rehabilitatn (which is already happening and wud last for 8wks) and Reconstructn (which wud start after the Rehabilitatn, bidding and all)I overlooked the reconstruction part, but you are yet to give cogent reasons for the three questions above. |
Double post |
This EFCC sef no serious, so they expect government to adequately fund them so that they can start chasing corrupt government officials and their cronies outside government around town? They should simply make do with the little budgeted for them since their known stride for now is in prosecuting petty thieves and yahoo boys. This government is not committed to fighting graft cos they are themselves the insignia of corruption hence why EFCC will remain underfunded! |
Its time for Nigerians to start pushing the boundaries cos this government is bent on bankrupting the nation and leading it to a dysfunctional state. The minister(Diezani) who presided over the subsidy fraud is still waxing stronger in GEJ's government, Ahmadu Ali the erstwhile chairman of PPPRA during the time of the monumental fraud is set to become the Chairman of PDP's BOT. Government have resorted to Plea Bargain with the subsidy thieves and ministers' companies are also involved in the thievery. This government is A LOOTER CONTINUA |
This EFCC sef no serious, so they expect government to adequately fund them so that they can start chasing political office holders, government officials and their cronies outside government around town? Its another way to alert EFCC and Nigerians that Corruption has come to stay, its the Insignia of Government hence why EFCC will remain underfunded and a toothless dog! |
To cut the story short, government has embarked on Plea Bargain with the thieving marketers. All the court cases involving the indicted marketers are all Red Herrings as charges against them would be dropped once they agreed to refund back their loot . These marketers ought to be incarcerated to serve as deterrent to others but since government itself is complacent in the fraud, it has created a safe way to obstruct justice for the thieves. Na A LUTIN CONTINUA for the boys! Naija I hail thee. |
Its a good thing that the FG has decided to embark on the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Ibadan express way but I have a lot of reservations about its implementation: 1. Why is the cost of the rehabilitation shrouded in secrecy? Thought the government acclaims itself of always adhering to Due Process, I feel this is wrong cos we should be running an Open government. 2. Why didn't the government give room for interested bidders rather than just hand picking the two selected companies? While one can make a case for JB, same cannot be said of RCC. When did the two companies submit their design plan and their cost. It is unheard of to submit a plan after the completion of a project. Is this what due process is all about? 3. How much was paid to the contractors as mobilisation fee? This government needs to be thoroughly scrutinised. It seems there are some "mago mago" in their dealings. |
@Taharqa, I quite appreciate your opinion but the fact still remains that the government is a spendthrift by planning to build a hall for 2.2billion which isn't reflected in the budget for year 2012 and 2013. The 6.2billion for the PIB awareness campaign is another example of the government profligacy. 30.2million budgeted for animals and animal supplement and so many other examples that I can't begin to mention. My tough and livid stands is borne out of what I'll describe as government's inconsistency to cut cost of governance and the wastages it has embarked upon. The share of recurrent spending in relation to aggregate expenditure being reduced from 71% in 2012 to 68.7% in 2013 is still high and the pace of reduction slow. My greatest wish still remains for GEJ to prove the cynics wrong but for now we have to take a deep scrutiny into all government action |
kutchs: But just where did the minister say 6.2b will be used for publicity?Guy kindly read through to get a full grasp of the minister's request. www.punchng.com/news/fg-to-spend-n6-2bn-on-petroleum-bill-publicity/ |
