bukatyne: Are V/I, Ikoyi, Lekki the only places close to V/I? Igbo Efon/Agungi/New Road/Ologolo are also close to V/I. You will easily do 40mins - 1hr if you leave home by 7am - 7:30am. Yaba is also close to V/I; had a colleague that did 30mins by 6:30am. Surulere, Iyanaworo is close, ditto Gbagada.
P.S.: if you are serious with house scouting, go to your preferred area yourself. Okay, the locations you named (Igbo Efon/Agungi/New Road/Ologolo). If you search for 2-bedroom apartments online, you won't find any that are less than 2.5 million for 2-Bedroom that is liveable. If you do, that indicates that the home will have a lot of unresolved problems. Living in Surulere, Iyanaworo, and Gbagada equates to living in Ajah. Set a timer, leave work, and you'll be home at the same time. So there is no use in citing Iyanaworo & Co. My point is that Lagos is absurdly expensive o, and the house-hunting experience you mentioned is comparable to fighting in World War II with house agents. This dude's calculation is not far from the truth. |

bukatyne: I considered the new reality.
He said N180k for fuel in his car and N50k fuel for gen + N10k PHCN.
This tells me that he is going to work everyday. Yet, he uses 100litres for gen in a month.
Consider that he also rented a 2 bed at Ajah at N1.3m pa because of his home office.
So he pays huge rent, yet didn't leverage on that for proximity to the office.
People typically pay huge rent for proximity to the office which reduces cost of transportation (fuel/ bus fare) and time of commuting: he is gaining neither.
If he is all day on the road/office, how long is he at home to consume 100liters of fuel via gen and still spend N10k (about 170units of electricity)? If he doesn't go to the office everyday to justify the gen usage and home office, he wouldn't send so much fueling his car.
If the home office is for his side hustle, how long does he spend there daily considering he leaves the house by 5am everyday and returns earliest 7pm if he leaves the office 5pm sharp?
He doesn't cook at all so do not expect he has a freezer or electric stove.
There is something not adding up. With this analysis s regards rent, It doesn't seem like you reside in Lagos at all. 1.3M is not a huge rent in Lagos Island & further, it is the median rent. Where would you find a 2 Bedroom apartment close to office (Which I assume by the look of things would be Victoria Island / Ikoyi / Lekki) around the same 1.3M? Please check PropertyPro & other similar websites, let's see if you will can find anything like that. The least 2 Bedroom apartment is around that environs is 3M to 5M. In fact, if you find any house for 1.3M, please contact me, I am willing to pay that amount & sublet it to a new person. |

Sheriman: I myself has realize that 95% of techies on Twitter are frontend and backend developers UX Designers and product designers. You hardly see game developer or 3D animation artist or data visualization developer, or visual reality developer or native Android developer or IOS developer or blockchain developer. Well, i can't really blame criticize anybody because resources to gain entrance into frontend and design are cheap compared to those other tech career and their learning curve of those tech skills are somehow tough and rough compare to frontend or design. We Nigerians don't too like anything that will be rackling our brain we will abandoned it to look for easier things to do. Although, no tech career is easy but some specific tech career is for those techies who love challenge, patience, persistence and the available resources to scale through. Na inexperience dey make you write this kain thing. Do you think you can even last a year in a tough gaming company? You will definitely burn-out. First of all, there is less funding for gaming companies because ROI is slower and investors need money quickly, secondly too many human capital resource is needed in game development with little reward. I have worked as a Web Dev in a gaming company before & all i did was maintain the gaming website, all the animators, graphic designers & game devs will sometimes sleep at the office to continue work, while I go home & chill. Who wants to die?! You may love challenges but you also need an enabling environment to support you, I am tired of all this "Nigerians love easy things" bla bla bla always coming up weekly on this section. Go & start a gaming or visual reality company and let's hear word. This same Frontend that you guys think is easy, If you apply for a Frontend position now & get interview questions, you won't even be able to answer 50% of the questions thrown at you. They will give you a UI to debug &ask you to share your screen, to find out why something is not working & that is when you will know that you don't know anything. Imposter syndrome will creep in. |

If you build a project she obviously can't build and post with same tool she's using then she'd tell you you cheated and you're copy paste individual.
Her progress since her journey began is really predictable... I bet before the year runs out she'll move to blockchain development or AI and what she's learning now will be a thing of the past, obsolete and mediocre.
Any day she finally gets a role to be a Frontend dev with JavaScript as her primary language, she'd accept it with open arms then come back to laugh at those learning anything not related to Frontend or JavaScript thinking they're wasting their time. It's seems everything you predicted about this person is exactly as it is, once she officially gets a Frontend role, then it's all over for everyone else. We can all go & die. But I can't lie, all her rants make this section quite interesting. Drama is needed to catch fun. |

You have been contradicting yourself a lot since January, first you said you hate Backend and that it is boring & now you're back to saying everyone is doing Frontend therefore it reduces opportunities. The way you felt about backend being boring is the same way other "newbies" in the industry also feel, even though you're not even a newbie at this point anymore. All of you feel the same way hence focus on the same Frontend frameworks.
Frontend is sweet only at the beginners level, but being a senior Frontend dev full-time and writing UI Automation Test for Frontend is even a pain in the ass. Writing to make sure your UI is pixel perfect is just unnecessary manual labour.
Take note of is the type of companies who use C# / Java & those that use Golang, new age start-ups use more of Golang, banks and financial sectors use C#. Your comprehensive research was showing Python as one of the top backend languages, are you aware that is based on Machine Learning jobs, and not really backend development? Go back & check those jobs if they are really backend or just "Software Engineer". |

Devdevdev: 90% is a reserved percentage. The percentage is even higher. A popular tech promoter with over 100k followers made a comment asking Nigerians to mention their tech stack and I painstakingly went through all the comments.(Over 500 comments) ALMOST everyone was a JavaScript/Frontend developer. It was shocking. And I follow a lot of these popular tech people and whenever they make these kinds of posts it's always the same responses.
I'm not making mockery of the JavaScript tech stack. I'm making mockery of the fact that almost everyone is doing it, obviously because it's "easy" to learn. I'm also criticizing it because it doesn't teach programming fundamentals which are necessary to becoming a good software developer and most people who "learn" it think they can call themselves software developers because they can make some bullshit website with react. Please do you have a link to this twitter post? |

If you say 3500 is cheap for food I will agree and if you say 3500 is too expensive for food I will agree . I agree with everybody . You spent a total of 3500 in Lekki, omo you're lucky o. ibkayee: Intentionally keeping your salary a secret from your fiancé/spouse is something I've only come across in Nigerian spaces and maybe it's just a cultural thing I will never understand and that's fine, but I find it weird.
The West have more of a credit culture where couples are more likely to be involved in binding financial agreements with legal implications so they're more compelled to be privy to each other's finances. E.g. when getting a loan for a mortgage the lender will calculate how much they're willing to give you based on the household income etc. so of course I need to know what you earn just from a practical point of view. Whereas, in Nigeria things tend to be paid in full?
I guess I understand why it may not be as common in Nigeria but I find it weird when it's intentionally hidden, even if only one person is paying the mortgage lol. If they just didn't ever ask or it just never came up in conversation that's fair, but it's the intentional awkwardness/secrecy that's strange to me . |

All am looking for if it can be a profitable idea I can be using to make passive income while studying, and something I can graduate and keep working on and sponsor myself as for H1B.
My goal is to build, make passive income till I graduate and sell the company on Microacquire, simple!!!
The startup I will be working on to possibly be a billion dollar Company is an AI bypasser similar to Conch ai You sound like someone who doesn't even know what he is doing, you want to build a startup & you are not interested in taking time to study the companies already offering the service. A lot of companies don't even make money with their product, so this passive income you speak of, where would the money come from? Before something becomes profitable, a lot of running & organisation cost will be involved, this is a lot to handle. If you want to build a solid product, then build it & see it grow. If it is passive income that you're worried about, forget it you won't make any profits in your first 2 years, what you will have is revenue & that's not passive income. I am not subscribed to all this aspire to maguire stories. |

This is the very mindset that's making a sham of marriage these days.
Everyone is getting married, ready-in-advance to walk away at the slightest challenge.
That's not what marriage is about.
Asking a question as the one OP created only opens the floor for wrong mindsets to seem okay.
Because some people will surely say nonsense.
It's not easy dealing with financial difficulties, but that's life.
Everyone in life would experience one itch or the other in their lifetime...and that's supposed to be the beauty of marriage. That through those difficulties, you've got someone who'd ride it out with you till the end. Hmmm okay, I get you but I know what I am saying. The prayer is that God shouldn't give us a bigger test than we can handle. Divoc19: What God Has Joined Together, No Man Put Asunder To Is Family. See, you can choose your spouse or partner to create/procreate a family with. But, you can't choose your family members. A man/woman can lose a partner to the cold hands of death and get remarried within a few months or years but your family members irrespective of your relationship with that member can never be replaced by another.
If parents can adopt this common sense into their household principle then, things will start getting better in our society.
Parents should learn how to teach children to accept their differences as siblings and give unconditional love each other.
Edited: Your family is your history What you're saying is rare but possible, I have seen it where people, couples, siblings etc loving each other unconditionally.
