Happy Sunday ladies and gentlemen. While I wait for my G to come meet me so we can go and worship in the sanctuary of st Bottles, let me quickly offload this thought that has been bothering me lately. Ben marries Jane who is unemployed or underemployed. Shortly after their Honeymoon they decide to open a business for Jane to manage. They rent a shop and Ben uses his savings including the proceeds of their wedding ceremony to stock up the shop. That is a typical case of most average Nigerian couples. But less than 25% of such ventures survive after one year. What normally happens is that at the expiration of the initial rent, the wife is unable to renew it; she'll probably demand that the husband lends her money for the rent... Why do such businesses collapse after one year? First, the wife doesn't have the prerequisites experience needed to run such business. Secondly, she may lack the required financial discipline needed to run a successful business. For example, you open a grocery store for her and she sees money everyday; she makes sales. She might be tempted to spend extravagantly thinking that the money will always flow in not knowing that she's actually squandering her capital; just one hair she buy might be higher than all her profits in one month. Thirdly, at the expiration of the initial rent, she might discover that she doesn't have enough money to renew it. Also, most newly married wives conceive before or immediately after wedding and put to bed few months after that. Prenatal and postnatal conditions can force the wife to either close shop or leave it in the hands of salespeople who would help her mismanage it. From the time of first birth, it will take more than a decade (in most cases) before a woman is ready to BUILD a business. Taking care of children is as tasking as building a business. Again, your aim of empowering her is so that she can contribute to the family finance. If she live up to that goal, family expenses might choke the business. Lack of understanding between both of you on how much the business should be contributing to the family and when you should invest more on the business as bailout, could also cripple it. Most women are not good with power. When she starts seeing money, she'll prioritize herself and her family, this might anger you to the point where you will no longer render any support or bailout for the business when needed. So in summary, such business end because of the incompetence of the wife, unfriendly circumstances or the unwillingness of the husband to render more support if he hasn't seen the results of his initial investment so far. My advice? Don't do it if you're not ready to lose your money. It's a gamble, but the probability of failure is high. If you must open a business for your wife, let her start learning the rope before marriage when child bearing has not started or if she has a thriving business already, invest in it, or wait till her last born gets to school age. If you must take the risk, invest small |
Juanmike:To run a successful restaurant, you must reduce all other aspects of life to zero; no more clubbing, sporting, even sleeping will have to be sacrificed |
You want to steal ideas? |
Restaurant business no be beans o. Bolt sweet, but if you're going with naija used car, know say you don murder sleep be that |
SisterFire, longest time. How have you been? |
Policy design/copy has never been the issue in this country, implementation is. After much grammar, when it's time to implement they will do a shabby job and embezzle the money. Even in the next 600 years, naija no go better. No be course |
Missyajoke:Lol. It's girls that are so particular about age, besides you still got it wrong |
Missyajoke:Of what significance is that? |
I will was 7. We have this NAME SAKE culture. The person I was named after died at the age of 114 years. I was brought to see his corpse at his wake keep. As a titled man, he was laid in his sitting room, all the walls were decorated with George material. A high makeshift bed where he was laid was decorated with white materials. A man who I can't remember his identity now raised me up and I touched his dead body and bid him farewell. This is almost 30 years ago |
Barely three years ago we didn't know what caution fee is but now it's a must, even for old houses. I just saw this one now. Very soon it will become a new normal. How is it in your area?

Ok |
DICKstractor:They hardly tell you the truth about learning a skill. They hardly tell you that most skills are over saturated; that skills providers are now higher than the clients in number They hardly tell you that to make it big with your skills within a short time in Nigeria, you must tell lies They hardly tell you that years of experience is important in skills world. If you must learn a skill, do so because you want to and not because motivational speakers told you to..... and do it in a right way |
Hmmm |
justified007:Oga check your account balance first. UBA is in the habit of sending past transaction details; it's scary sometimes, but your balance will remain the same. If you're really debited, it could be some transactions you signed up for. Solution? Block your card and get another one. Simple. |
RodgersAkpafu:Let's assume you are Mr Akpafu Rodgers and you marry Mrs Celine obinna. Your first property has the name Mr/ Mrs Akpafu Rodgers and your children are Celestine Akpafu, Treasure Akpafu, Akin Akpafu. Who is Mrs Celine obinna? Women who feel they are materially ok refuse change of name; but it doesn't truly comply with marital principles |
Men. Should respect women. Women should respect men. Everyone should respect everyone. Men build the house, women make it a home Men are like the blocks, women are like the mortar that holds the blocks together Men are the salads, women are the cream that makes it tasty Men are the vehicles, women are the painting that makes it exquisite Gender equality is scam. Can men menstruate? Can men carry pregnancy? Do men change their surname after marriage? Men protect, provide and guide. Men get what they want. Men help women get what they want. Men are men. Women are women. |
Gkemz:Imagine judging a brand in 2021 with a 2016 product. Imagine rating a Tecno over Infinix. Should I condemn iphone because of my nasty experience with iphone 7?. That phone do me shege. It was my last iphone. I joined iphone from iphone 4. |
skywalker240:Lol |
pesty100:I don't think there's any phone that doesn't overheat when over used (unless they could be found among high end phones). I've used countless midrange phones. When I used Infinix note 3, I made a culture to restart it twice every day. The metallic body didn't help matter |
Damzy101:I'm really impressed by the phone |

About 4 months ago I bought a Galaxy a12 for 67k. Few weeks ago I went to buy it again I was told 87k. My budget was 70k and my spec are: 4 gb ram (minimum) 5000mah battery (minimum) and at least 10watt charging 48 mp of camera (very important) Android 11 or a device that can upgrade. I'm not a fan of transsion device coupled with how nairalanders talk bad about it, but this hot 10t was the cheapest phone with all my spec at 75k. The closest was Nokia G20 at 78k but the performance of Nokia G series is not encouraging. So I settled for Infinix hot 10t. Three weeks down the line, I've not had significant cause to hate the phone. The performance in relation to the price has been about 8/10 (my personal rating) same as my disposed galaxy a12 (much of the problems I had with the a12 was when I updated it from Android 10 to 11. But after much updates consequently, it became fine). Yesterday I hosted a zoom meeting on this hot 10t from 10 in the morning till 4 in the evening. Around 3 I wanted to take pictures but it kept telling me that the temperature is too high so if I take 1 or 2 pictures the camera app will close but the zoom meeting was not affected though and I still had up to 18% of battery by 4. Was I impressed by the performance? Yes. Do I regret settling for this phone? No. Hopefully I will use this phone for the rest of the year, by January I will get my dream phone if the price is right

Classickj:Old time ashawo (CR). New ahawo (LM) |
The only Igbo man that has the political intelligence to win 2023 presidential election is OUK. But I don't see Buhari allowing that |
Soludo or maduka. No one else should win. Better still, soludo and maduka ticket... |
Amotolongbo:As long as we live |
I'm a Messi fan. I will continue to be patient with him till he fully adjusts to the new environment. Ashawo that has been in the business for years is not same as ashawo that just join the business. |
How many times will this be on front page? |
THE INCIDENCE OF UGM Under the disguise of UGM, kidnapping gangs, Cultism, Political assassination,Armed robbery etc are having a good time. After all they're all UGM. Nobody investigates crimes anymore. As far as it was committed with gun, label it UGM. |
GEJ has never been a politician. His political engagement was just coincidental. He is looking for a reason to quit active politics. Those that are speculating that he will decamp to APC are just dreamers; inwardly he might be wishing that he's left alone... |
