Please i need Some advise.
i have a sibling who got his PR ,he landed in canada,did the needful and got his Social insurance number but had to move to the US . can i use him to gain sibling points in EE or do you advise against it.
what is required to show proof that one has a sibling in canada.
please help, trying to complete my EE form

Only if you are submitting your pR application within 6mths of when he last lived in canada. Else you cant claim him because part of the requirements is proof of residence of your sibling in canada not later than 6mths

He should go the UK route because there he can practice and actually have some professional fulfillment.
Canada would work only through pnp and chances of ever practicing again is as narrow as the proverbial path to heaven.

Not quite correct. They need to spend 2 years out of 5 years to renew PR, and 3years out of 5 for citizenship.

That sounds like a good plan however, note that to continue to maintain her PR status, she must be physically present in canada for 3yrs in the ist 5yr period to be eligible for renewal of pr status or application for citizenship.

I just joined this forum and i have a slight issue. i have 60 days before my application expires. all other documents are complete except for medicals and Proof of funds.
do i need to print a bank statement or can i just request a letter from the bank stating my average bank balance and also stating my current bank balance. is there also any other way that i can show proof of funds. i don't even have the money yet. i was just planning to get my friends to send me money and then i just print my bank balance.

You could do that but IRCC would ask for a statement of account over the last six months also and you will have to explain the bulk transfers to your account. You could get your friends to transfer it to 1 person and then transfer the bulk you need from just 1 person so it would be easier to explain if need be.

Please note that the money should remain I your account throughout the period of processing because you might be asked for a SOA at any point during your application.

The best option would be for you to decline and sought out the financial part of your application before u formally apply.

Guys its 3:40 am now. Hubby said he felt somehow and needed to check his email. I told him to sleep. Well, he checked and showed me a PPR mail. 39 days post AOR on the dot. We asked God for 45 days max for processing before we sent our application and he did it in less than that. I couldn't help myself i started laughing and crying at the same time. Surely, there is a God somewhere. Will tell my soon. Let me continue with my worship because i can't sleep again.

I am collating my documents and there has been an unforeseen hitch with a work reference.

1.....i worked the job from dec 2012 to Aug 2013. But I am not able to get a letter in the exact format stated so I decided to take it out of my work history and leave it under personal history.
I however would still submit the letter of introduction dated Feb 2016 which I used for my study permit process.

2......i claimed just 2years (i think ) But my last job was from June 15th 2016 to June 4th 2017. I know the score for 1yr and 2 yrs are the same thing.

Lastly the info pre ita is locked in so should I just submit the 2016 letter just like that and add an explanation in my Loe?

I hope I am on track?

Just gather what is available, maybe use the address and a doc mailed to him at that address. It's registered on the systems that they're married... It's an loe something. They could also declare the cert lost and follow due process so you have proof though I imagine convincing them to do this will be difficult. Kpele.

What if you use utility bill in his spouse's name, then add proof of marriage? And an important document mailed to him at that address super recently, Eg a bank statement.

For proof of relationship, both your attestations of birth mentioning name of parents should work. To your advantage, regardless of what century he got his papers, name of his parents are on his records already.

I am hoping to get ITA soon and I intend to come over with my wife and kids, we have been married since over five years and blessed with children but the thorny sissue is that we only got married traditionally. We are considering going through the process of getting a marriage certificate from a Local Govt. registry but I am also feeling that might hinder our getting PR since the certificate will bear a recent date.

Note: My children have valid birth certificates and my wife's masters degree carries my name(Her new name).

Should we apply as common law partners or go ahead with registering our marriage legally?

You guys meet the criteria for a common law partner. You can choose to legally get married and explain this in your letter of explanation.
I don't think it's a big deal that the kids are before the date of the intended court wedding. It happens!
Just explain and attach proof

Isn't there any bill / lease agreement/ bank staement that mentions both of them? You can use that and highlight his name. That's what I did for my sibling though she added her bank statement.

What have you been using in place of birth certificate? Did he mention you as a sibling in his application/ landing documentation?
An attestation of birth can be used if you both have it.

- 2......There is a car purchase document with both names (him and spouse). I was thinking about adding a utility bill in spouse's name

4......he got into Canada when immigration wasn't as organised (more than 20yrs ago) so I doubt mentioning me as a sibling was a thing then.

Situations differ.
Canadian law has a space for such unions which is a common law partner. Like I explained before, if u live with this person u did trad with and do "married people things" but u just dont have a legal signed document in the court, it is recognised as a common law partnership.

You can only answer NO when u are a single mum or single dad with no spousal presence in the family unit.

Car invoice isn't good enough as a utility bill; ask sibling for either lease agreement, phone bill, account statements... that must be not more than 6 months old.

We both do not have a birthcert and all other utilities u mentioned are in the wife's name.

What format of affidavit can we do to proof relationship.

I am a bit confused on how to answer this question " have you ever been married or been in a common law relationship?"
Background-
I came to Canada as a student. I was married traditionally under customary law in my country. I was never married legally in the registry or in the church. No change of name. No marriage certificate to present. As at the time I was applying for my study permit, I mentioned being traditionally married. Under customary law, a dowry or bride price is paid. In 2015, the bride price was returned to my ex. Under the law, once its returned, the relationship is dissolved. There is no divorce certificate to be issued just a letter and affidavit from my father to the man's father acknowledging return of bride price and dissolution of the customary marriage.
Since I came to Canada I have been applying as single.
I am now applying for my PR under a single status.


My confusion-
Should I answer yes to this question " have you ever been married or been in a common law relationship?" and then in the LOE explain that it was a traditional marriage including the dissolution letter from my dad?

Should I answer No and also explain in the LOE that I was traditionally married but chose to answer NO because there is no marriage certificate or even a divorce certificate but also include the dissolution letter from my dad. The traditional marriage was never registered in a customary court or anywhere.

my take is that trad will fall under common law if both of you lived together for at least 1 year and had things in common ....eg a child, bank account, etc. also to the best of myknowledge there is no divorce process for common law partners. The LOE would suffice, and explain it was a traditional dowry payment( tone down the marriage word if u must) and show proof that it was also customarily dissolved as best as you can.

Well if your report for any reason was reviewed after issuing others, it will not have the same release date as your peers. So I would still advise you to wait till u get yours.

Please how long does COPR lasts after passport request. If you get your passport request and it gets stamped, how long do they give you to travel to Canada. Must you go immediately?

It always has an expiration date attached. Meaning it will state that u must enter canada before "xyz ".i don't know the exact time frame for PR but study permit is the duration of the visa.
