That's an embarrassing revelation. But instead of paying half she should have prevailed on the father (or family) to reduce it to an affordable amount.
Cultures are different though. But bride price is mainly symbolic. No matter how much is paid, it can never be enough to take a human being home. Many Yoruba fathers in Nigeria return the money tagged "bride price" back to the groom's family, saying they're not selling their daughter - they collect all the other gifts (and cash) anyway.

If as a man, you (or your father) can't afford her bride price, then you don't deserve her. In many traditions though, the man's father pays that particular fee, because he's the one marrying a wife for his son. Whichever is the case, the lady shouldn't be instrumental to its payment.

Innocent blood cries against this country, for failing them. Leaders shed blood and you see millions of followers still supporting and defending those leaders. So everyone becomes guilty, because it is the followers who give the leaders the mandate/power to kill.
That could be why Nigeria has everything to become a great world power but never been able to get it right. Because if you look closely it's like the country is under a curse or spell.
