Nonsense! No sane international businessman will come to Nigeria unless they're ready to get themselves dirty with our level of corruption. That's why Indians, Lebanese and Chinese are the only striving foreigners, because they know how to get their money out quickly - and our money too! Imagine a foreign investor who had $1m equivalent in Naira, and just overnight, Naira crashed and that $1m turned to $500k equivalent - no war, no natural disaster - just govt policy. Naira is too unstable and highly risky to invest in. Floating it makes it even extra unstable. That's not to mention the high cost of doing business due to lack of infrastructure, insecurity and the amount of bribery you have to do before you commence business. Let's stop deceiving ourselves. |
Huh? |
Lolz. OP is a realist. ![]() |
You guys should rest. Power and the money, money and the power Minute after minute, hour after hour Everybody's running, but half of them ain't looking. It's going on in the kitchen, but I don't know what's cooking. You Gerrit? If you don't Gerrit forget about it. ![]() |
A bird and a fish can fall in love . The great question is "where would they build their nest?" You guys want different things. Love sometimes means you let go of that person so they can find the happiness they won't have with you. You have a family decision not to travel, what if it's the universe speaking to you that you could be in better position to help your siblings abroad? With her family abroad, sooner or later, she will travel. If she is smart, she knows it's unwise to stay back in naija because of a man who could dump her at any time. Not that you're the kind of person, but bro, shit happens. The bird and the fish in love... They both know how it ends. |
For the ordinary man, shares has always been a scam in Nigeria. Only venture into it if you're a big shot. If you are not a director of the company, or have a representative on the board, your investment is worth at most, half the amount you paid for it. Economic realities is also a major factor. It's better to invest in real estate if you're trying to secure the future. |
BlackhatMentor:Thank you oo. |
Yes and no. Such a problem is outside your professional expertise, but indicates you have what it takes to take on unthinkable (unexpected) challenges, and also how to manage conflicts in workplace. So YES. On the other hand, you can't say you paid them (bribe) or used soldiers to threaten them (human rights violation, assault). Those are red flags. So NO. Dododudu:If you can present you tackled the problem by engaging stakeholders, local govt, village heads, court orders, employing some of the omo onile as site workers, etc. - that kind of civilized approach (show you are sincere). Then, certainly use it! |
Too late for where? With your web design skills, you'll make shortage of occupation list. Starting salary for inexperienced graduates is around £26k annually. There are high prospects for you! UK employers value experience more than certifications. You don't need to have a UK degree or certificate to get web development jobs. You must demonstrate you have handled production level projects, worked with teams and overcame unexpected challenges along the way. Age is not a barrier in UK if you have experience. All you need to do is - whatever you know, know it very well. Build your CV to showcase your experience. PremiumTech:Don't mind those people discouraging you - they have not been outside Nigeria. My advice - Let your wife use any work sponsored visa (care/support, teaching, catering, etc) and you be the dependant with the kids. There's sponsorship for dev jobs too, but they're mostly institutions that want you to be in the UK already. There's a whole lot of job options for you here (contract, permanent, remote). Japa is expensive now, especially due to exchange rate but you won't regret it. Don't wait. It gets more difficult and expensive with time. |
There is currently no economic reality that can bring the exchange below N500. Don't deceive yourself, except there is a serious natural disaster or intense war involving the US and OPEC countries respectively. Naira is currently like an almost emptied bottle of wine filled with water. You can't hope it will someday taste like the original wine by romancing the bottle. |
There was no need to even start this project in the first place. At a point of huge borrowing to pay salaries we couldn't have afforded an airliner. Besides, even if it did kick off, it is meant to fail like the last one did. We haven't solved the problem that killed the old Nigerian Airways - corruption! The new railway services are headed for the same fate. |
Focus should be on taking out the criminals. What happens after you resettle them and bandits are still on rampage?? |
Immaturity. You don't have to end a relationship with a fight or bitterness. You can come to terms with your partner that you guys are not compatible and end it amicably. But when one or both of you are not emotionally matured, you will become bitter enemies after breakup, or end up cheating on your current partners. |
Sorry bro. Never try to persuade anyone not to travel, so far they're using the right means. You should consider following suit too. At this point, I would advise anyone who has the means, think carefully before you decide japa is not your best option. |
Scam |
Wow |
No good parent would wish any child single parenthood. Only if inevitable. |
None! In Nigeria - Both are filled with oloshos and their customers. Unless you're either of those, you have no business there. |
Looking carefully at the costumes, EYO masquerades have "White man" written all over them. * The hat is certainly of European origin. * The emaculate (bleached) white fabric was imported. Local cotton cannot be sparkling white. It's just celebrating the white man's culture. |
HitlerWasRight:They need to be in active duty and be armed at the time of attack. Save the children, adolescents, elderly and disabled. As our CDS once said NYSC members are reserve soldiers. That makes you also a bonafide legit target. Because you did NYSC after school, now imagine you are gunned down by Niger soldiers in your home, while reading comments on Nairaland. |
Every Israeli is a soldier. They all go through some years of (compulsory) military service when they turn 18. |
maasoap:This is exactly why they say most Nigerians are below the poverty line. |
If you're not earning 7 digits in Nigeria. You're at risk of becoming poor sooner or later. |
Evolutionism:If you have problems understanding English language, you shouldn't be thinking with your anus. Invest in yourself - do you know what that means? I am talking about self development, Fishbrain. I asked him to make himself better mentally and spiritually. Does he need money to pray and meditate? Many ways to find free books online to read and expand his knowledge base in his chosen occupation. Many free YouTube videos to learn diverse skills. Despite financial issues many spend time and data watching comedy skits instead of building themselves. And I wasn't talking to you by the way. |
Just get something doing. Many see unemployed period as idle time. NO! This is the opportunity to achieve self development, in your chosen occupation, mentally and spiritually (whatever your religion is). By the time you get a job or hustle to do, you should have become a better person than you are today, in many ways. Invest in yourself at this moment, you'd be glad you did. |
Boogyman557:Baba Yaga ![]() |
Scam. So when you achieve 100% they will say it was only 20% of their expectations? What are the hard lines? That's an irresponsible employer. Better spend your time and effort marketing your own personal business. Pay yourself all the rewards. |
Cassandraloius:What are you defending? Corruption, tribalism, bad economy or questionable personalities? |
It's just fashion and mostly has no implications whatsoever. In fact, it should be encouraged! |
Start learning a skill today. When you have something valuable to offer, people will pay to get that value. |
First Sex with olosho is never satisfying. It's the most elusive. It is shallow. How much chocolates can satisfy your hunger? They're lovely in your mouth but once you swallow them that's it. As long as you patronise them, you will keep wanting them more. |
Low as in how? I've heard many Nigerians speak English better than some native Brits. You as a Nigerian, how fluently can you speak your local language? This is what should be your real concern. If you pass WAEC or NECO without cheating, then your English is good enough. |
