Romance / Re: Anita & Jide: Man Who Earns ₦15m Asks His Fiancee Who Earns ₦42m To Quit Her Job by Winneygirl(f): 5:22pm On May 19, 2020
Marriage is not a lifetime achievement. It is a new phase.
Why quit a lucrative job that pays your bills and gives you a comfortable life to go and sit down in the name of marriage?
Does marriage pay you salary? Does marriage pay your bills?
While I believe this is a fake story, ladies should beware of men who ask them to quit their jobs.
Most times, their income is not even up to what you earn from your job, but they will build a house with ego in the village.
That is a life of suffering waiting to happen.

Business / Re: What Is Your Worst Business Investment And How Much Did You Lose? by Winneygirl(f): 11:06am On May 13, 2020
westerk:
This is one of the most enlightening thread ive read on nairaland in a very long time. Kudos to all those that shared their experiences. I've also invested in people especially friends and I've lost money too. Actually I have a job so it's more of investing in friends who are not really employed. So I've learnt the following
1. Most business people feel that their major problem is money, once they get funding their business will explode. Based on my experience with helping friends fund their business ive realised that what most entrepreneurs lack is ideas. Secondly a lot of them do not even do proper reaserch before going into the business. At the end they will lose investors money. That's what happened to me.
2. Believe me there are lots of people who have money to invest but d challenge is most people that will come to u to fund their businesses have not even sat down to do extensive research before looking for investors.
I will explain my experiences briefly. So i have a friend from d middle belt, told me about soya beans business, that we will buy, store and after some months we will resell and make profit. So i sent money we bought about 80 bags between November 2018 and January 2019. Cost of the soya beans plus bagging and transportation to where we stored at TARKA l.g came down to about 12,000 plus per bag . (Based on his so called research we should be able to sell each bag for at least 18,000 in 6 months time). To cut the long story short the price kept dropping we ended up selling them at 9,500 per bag to other sellers in benue in January this year.
We also planted yams, were able to harvest about 1,800 tubers of various sizes. The challenge has telling me now is how to get buyers for the yams. Meaning he didn't even consider where he will get buyers after harvesting. It's currently being priced anyhow at benue ( 100 big yams at 30,000) quite unbelievable.
Another of my friend gave him 400,000 he sells all this alkaline water. Buys from unique and sells in owerri. Later for to know that he sells on credit mostly to civil servants in d state and its always difficult getting them to pay u the money. He still has over 250,000 outside after I have him d money over 5 months ago.
I'm not really bothered about the monies that ive lost, it just reinforced my belief that a lot of so called business people won't sit down and and take a lot of time to research about they business they want to go into before disturbing people for money.
Another one based in Benin is now telling meme about butcher business , that they buy cows from d Hausa people there take to abbatoir, sell to middlemen and consumers and make up to 40,000 per cow, did a lot of good analysis. But based on my experience all those are just analysis nothing more. I didn't even bother with him even though he's still calling. For me I'm not really d one that lost , i invested the money in them to help them stand on their feet, unfortunately they didn't do t heir homework well, and i have no intention of giving any of them even a job. As a friend ive done my bit for them.
So for every businessman out there take time out to do ure research because u might never get a second chance from d investor once u flop. And believe me there are thousands of people out there with money to invest.

Thank you for this.
I am a small business person myself, and have been in my business for about 2 and a half years.
A lot of people get emotional about starting a business. They just calculate A - B= C. Voila!!
This is not so. There's a lot of investment in terms of time, branding, logistics, advert and customer service and experience. There's also the battle of trend. A product that is selling highly today, tomorrow it is not even being looked at. You also have to know what is essential, what products are in high demand, do less of selling on credit. Sell value. Be careful about middlemen and proxies. They make most of the profit leaving you with peanuts.
I'm still learning. I'm still growing.

One other thing small businesses do is ignore record keeping. Even if it is tom-tom you're selling, you need records.
Simple expenses and income record. I have record of everything I have bought/sold since inception. I always know my Month-to-date position, Year-to-date position, Overall business performance. I know when I make profit in a month, or when I made more expenses than income. I know how much I pay for transport/courier. I know my marketing/advert costs. I have a dedicated account for business funds and I pay myself a percentage of my profit for the month. Any month I don't make profit, no payment. That is the reality of the business. To earn more, you sell more and watch your costs. I use an app to keep these records and I have it backed up.

My advise to most people is , start small and grow. You encounter smaller obstacles and you surmount them. You make smaller mistakes and learn from them, then apply the knowledge as you grow. You cannot start from the top. All the big businesses we envy today, didn't start where you met them. They grew!

Too many stories with househelps.
How do people feel comfortable using other peoples kids as househelps?
.
I prefer employing someone mature who would come by the house and do chores. Cleaning, laundry and errands and at the end of the day, closes and goes back to their house. Bringing in minors in the name of househelp is just slavery to me.

Crime / Re: Nigerians Blame Banks For Negligence As Robbers Visit Homes With POS Machines by Winneygirl(f): 9:16am On Apr 22, 2020
We need to follow through with accountability.
Report to the bank. Follow up with a police report. Get a court order to debit the fraudsters account. The bank will honour a court order.
You don't expect the bank to just go chasing people who handle POS transactions.
You do your part too.

When she is using my destiny how will I get a job ? I have been trying since 2011 but nothing . I don’t just sit and folds my hands and expecting everything from my parents, I have been trying to be depend when I used to live with them but nothing was working. I am now depend living alone with my children , looking forward to start something doing but I don’t even know where to start from.

The origin of your problems lie in your mind.
If you keep believing that someone is using your destiny, it means that you believe you will be unable to achieve anything until they 'release' your destiny. Therefore, you will never give your best effort.

Discard the notion that your Mother is after your downfall.
You have never been up in the first place.
Stop going to churches where they focus on witchcraft, witches, enemies. You will only remain in bondage.
Free your mind. Tonight, think of where you can go and ask for a job. Even if it is to fetch water for someone and get paid, wash clothes, clean someone's house.
Tomorrow morning, get up and go look for the job. This is where you should start.

The situation with you and your sister is a result of poor parenting.
However, you are an adult and you should be responsible for your life.
Jumping from church to church will not solve your problems. If you spent that energy working odd jobs, you will gradually become a financially independent person.
Your mother did not make her money by jumping from church to church. She worked for it. You too, work for your own money.
.
Lastly, I believe your attitude is very poor. You resent your family, you hate your sister and you insulted your father.
Is this the attitude of a good person?

These days, I entertain some people on the verandah. Let them be walking around the compound if they want to exercise.

It is for the man to decide if they would be business partners or they would run independent businesses.
Some business should not go together.
E.g selling fabrics and electronics in the same store.
Or selling drugs, and selling foodstuff in the same shop.
It is for them to decide what works for them.

Family / Re: Enforcement Of Child Upkeep In Nigeria by Winneygirl(f): 9:23pm On Apr 05, 2020
There has to be a way to enforce child support.
Let's stop mentioning 'God' and keep letting people get away with not providing for their kids.
.
I think we should start with the family unit.
As a parent, your son impregnates a girl, what's your responsibility here?
As a parent, your daughter gets pregnant, and after birth, dumps the baby in the guys family house, what's your responsibility here?
.
Let's start with that.

Yeah, whatever works for one. How about you. Imagine you're a Igbo and next thing hubby tells you is "Dear, our son's name is Mosadoluwa" would you object?
I expect my husband to want to name the child just as much as I want to.
If I was igbo and I married a yoruba man, i wouldn't expect him to say "our son's name is Ifeanyichukwu".
Where you both can't settle for a name, I have some suggestions below.
John
James
Matthew
Daniel
Michael
Samuel
David
Joshua
Enoch
Moses
Joseph
Mark
Paul
Pharaoh embarassed
Herod tongue
Judas grin

Whatever works for one.
.
I do not believe that a child belongs more to the mother than to the father because she carried the child in her womb for 9 months undecided
So all these concerns about the man naming the child, thus sidelining the woman who carried the child through the gestational period...
I don't get it.
.
What works for one home should not be the standard by which other homes follow.
We need to learn to live and let live.

Please elders in the house what does repayment after renewal of TD mean? I keep getting credit alerts every month from UBA with this description. Please who knows what it means?

Don't you have a fixed deposit running?
I think the principal is being renewed every 30 days and your account is credited with the interest element.

Thank you for all the comments , I totally agree with what you are all saying , I will let him go after lockdown , he will go and stay in church for counselling and deliverance, right now he have nowhere to go , I don’t want him to be in the streets to be infected with this deadly disease ( corona)
Imagine this!!! After lockdown? Deliverance?
You are an accomplice to a crime.
And you are still hiding this from your husband.
For shielding him, you enable him to rape again... And you are no better than he is.

Take her to the hospital.
That brother of yours should not still exist in your house. You are keeping a rapist and his victim under the same roof.
You should tell your husband all of this. He is also responsible for the welfare of everyone under his roof and it is his duty to protect that girl too.
