Nuzo1:Abeg what this video of some Nigerian graduate to understand the low levels our quality of education has sunk over the years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVgr6dksQMk |
Reflect7:So what is the reason Wike is banning night clubs, Is it not religious? Even Hitler did not ban night clubs. Yes Brown people are proving holier than the pope and more prophetic than Mohammed. Even Arab rulers do not ban night clubs but regulate them. |
redsun:See black man's stupidity because of religion. Black soot is slowly killing people in Rivers State but Wike is oblivious of that. It is night club and prostitution that he is more concerned about. |
Navalsadiq:And You are very responsible. Hotels nko? Wike no go ban dem? There are tons of hotels in Port Harcourt where immorality takes place, since you guys are now the moral police. Besides prostitution takes place more in hotels than in night clubs. |
doctor20202020:That's against the Nigerian constitution. Nigerian constitution did not ban night clubs, sport clubs, social clubs or any other clubs. |
Vistra40:Another Christian fundamentalist. Just like your Muslim counterparts, you want to force everyone to abide by your religious doctrine even if they are not a believer. What's the difference between Kano state governor destroying alcohol and Wike closing night clubs? |
Beremx:I don't want to respond to him directly as I am very angry at his stupit and annoying conjectures. Please help me ask him about the acute lung injury. Was the supposed engine oil that caused the lung injury or the poor boy agreed to have his lungs damaged to join cult with senior students? |
DeepSight:I am looking at the context of university education mainly from the Nigerian perspective. Nigerian University education is geared towards passing exams and not finding solutions to problems. I studied architecture for 7 years without setting my eyes on any building material. I know people that studied computer science and graduated without actually handling a computer themselves. And yet they come out with first and second class. In these times of covid, other countries create their own test kits, vaccines and medicines, Nigeria with lots professors, doctors and masters of medicine, micro biologists and virologists seem helpless and waits for others to give us these these. And this is repeated in all fields of knowledge and research. I feel sad to know that others are sending telescopes into space to search the origin of the universe and life in other solar systems. We are yet to produce basic electricity to run our homes. |
Perfectbeing:I am sorry to say, but you are still stuck in the old mindset. You are talking about 20th century economy before the era of globalization and strict capitalism. In that era certificates, titles and prestige can sustain a company because you are operating in a localized and protected environment. In the 21st century the competition is fierce and you are competing in a global market. Certificates and degrees now take a back seat to the skills and productivity. Read about how Tanmay Bakshi a 14 year old Indian boy without a university degree earn $1.25 million annually without a university degree but taught himself artificial intelligence. - https://howafrica.com/youngest-developer-at-age-14-tanmay-bakshi-earns-1-25-million-in-salary-at-google/ Also read about Taylor Wilson, a 23 US citizen who at age 14 build a mini nuclear fusion reactor in his father's garage. - https://www.businessinsider.com/taylor-wilson-taking-the-energy-industry-by-storm-2017-11?r=US&IR=T He skipped university to focus on his research of nuclear fudion. Today he is earning millions working for Helena energy think tank. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying university education is useless. What I am saying is that a university education that cannot produce or add value is useless. A skill that can produce or add value is far more important that a degree without value. |
DannyXpress:Gbam. No relationship drama. No fights. No party. Not even booze. And you want Nigerian youths to be interested. When people were castigating BBNaija and asking for Gulder Ultimate Show, I just dey laugh like hyena. I come dey ask say who go watch am? How is the thread on nairaland sef? Was it as busy as the BBNaija thread? |
MT: 95% of Nigerian graduates are not employable, says don President and Chief Executive Officer, Postgraduate School of Credit and Financial Management, Prof Chris Onalo has expressed concern over the quality of Nigerian graduates, saying about 95 percent of them are not employable. He lamented that our present crops of graduates do not meet the need of the reality in the workplace and called for an urgent attention from all concerned to address the trend. Onalo who is also the founding Registrar, Institute of Credit Administration (ICA), the umbrella body for credit management professionals in the country spoke with The Guardian in his office on the various challenges confronting the sector and how best to tackle them. While expressing concern over the quality of products being churned out from our tertiary institutions, the eminent scholar posited that the curriculum must be finetuned in line with market demands and current trends for our graduates to be globally acceptable and relevant. “The curriculums are obsolete and not in tune with the reality and this is because money is not there to facilitate research. The lecturers don’t have support both from the government and the private sector. You don’t expect students to fund research projects. If you have a curriculum that is obsolete, a curriculum that is 50 years away from the reality, then who are you baking? On one hand, it is the tertiary institutions that should develop the initiative and convey it to the labour market that we want collaboration and strategic partnership so that the labour market, captains in the industry, corporate managers and directors will have a very cordial relationship with the universities to bring the reality to the system. We don’t have that.” https://guardian.ng/features/education/95-of-nigerian-graduates-are-not-employable-says-don/ |
basilico:For the umpteenth time, vaccines do not stop you from getting the virus. It only reduces its impact, in other words It only reduces hospitalisation and fatality. |
MT:This is the same wrong mindset that has put us in the precarious position we find ourselves today. We, and by we I mean the government and the people have a completely wrong view on education. Education should have goals for both the country and individual levels. The government must provide education through educational policy that reflects those goals. Education for the sake of just acquisition of knowledge is counter productive. Other countries are preparing for the economy of the future, while Nigerian educational system is stuck in the 1960s. |
Perfectbeing:A certificate you don't need is as useless as not having a certificate at all Zimbabwe has a literacy rate of close to 90% but remains one of the poorest countries in the world. |
contigiency:So what is the impact of the likes of Prof Soludo, Dora Akunyili, numerous professors, PhDs and captains of industries on our society? How has the education and certificates helped us to solve our basic existential problems when we still heavily rely on foreign goods and manpower? Mind you I am not against education in general as I am educated myself. What I quarrel with is that the education we acquire is not relevant to our needs, but to the needs of the original colonialist. That education will result in only making us sources of primary materials and market for industrialized countries. |
Jeromejnr:You are being disingenuous with your clip (screenshot). The article clearly defined what the term "missing children" means, which you conveniently avoid. Here is what the article said; It is estimated that 2,300 children are missing every day in the United States. Children can become missing for many reasons. The NISMART program identifies 5 categories of episodes that can cause children to become missing:You make it seem like the missing children were all abducted or killed. In the US if a child is abducted, it's mainly for sexual reasons. In the south west of nigeria young children are abducted mostly for ritual purpose. In the north Children are abducted from schools mainly for sexual reasons. Then about 21% of these children being sexually or physically abused. The report did not separate the sexual abuse from the physical abuse. In the US merely "konking" your child is termed physical abused for which you could be arrested and prosecuted. If we apply that same criteria to Nigeria. Then we can say 99% of nigerian children are or have been physically abused. |
Jeromejnr:Please provide your sources or links so that we can see that you are not just making conjectures off the top of your head. Do you know how may abortions (not for medical reasons) are done in the U.S monthly?Abortions are legal in California and in fact the US as a whole (some states limit abortion Windows). Do you also know how many abortions are done in Nigeria on daily basis (even though it is illegal here)? You think it's by CNN that will just mention maybe a special case and that's all the killings for that year.Once again provide sources for your claims. In Nigeria here it is very dangerous to leave your children in the streets or public spaces unattended, the probability of the child being kidnapped and killed for ritual purposes are extremely high. |
inumidun2010:It produces more sheeps for the Shepards to milk. If you have enough data watch this TED TALK by Rev. Walter Wambazi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfBzEAieaAM |
RepoMan007:Its the churches that encourages and promotes prosperity by any means necessary. Like miracle alerts, sudden wealth without asking about source and equating material possessions and acquisitions as evidence of blessings from God. |
Jeromejnr:How many ritual killings go on in Southern California? How many baby factories are there in Southern California? How many kidnapping and raping of women and children are going on in California? What is the level of corruption by government, youths and elders in Southern California? Sodom and Gomorrah main sin is sexual perversion. Nigeria's sins are the same sexual immorality (though hidden) and so much more. In fact Nigeria makes Sodom and Gomorrah look like a monastery. |
Chuvin22:The Christians also did the same. They had to readjust their sacrificial, worship and festival schedules to fit Roman pagan religion and calendar. |
kufre2010:The irony is that the igbos stubbornly resisted Christianity initially, but had to succumb to the pressure of the colonialist. |
Krismas:So there are a billion Chinese, Indians and Japanese that live outside the far east like in Africa, Europe Americas and Middle East? Ok. Provide us with the statistics of Chinese, Indians and Japanese that live in Africa, Europe, Americas and Middle east before we start talking about the number of them that are Christians and then the ones that are prosperous. You guys know how to make stupendous claims without any basis in reality. |
Krismas:There are no billions of prosperous Chinese Indians and Japanese who worship Jehovah thru Jesus Christ because there are no billion of Christians in those three countries. The total number of christians in China, India and Japan combined is not up to 70 million before we even start talking of prosperous ones. |
Igbodicool:Jehovah/Yahweh/YHWH is the mountain God of the Hebrews. We had no relations with him until the slave traders forced him unto us. To conquer a people completely you have to replace their Gods with with your own, by force or fire. That's what what the Europeans did to those they conquered and enslaved - particularly Africans and South Americans. |
ChiefS:Why should their sister send any money to him at all, after he burnt 70k she earlier sent. That would be rewarding bad behaviour and would embolden him to do worse. |
CUMIN:So because he is on drugs, he should get away with arson and threats to his father? In that case the whole family better start worshipping him. So at 24 someone should be giving him stipends out of fear? His mates are walking the streets looking for jobs or trying to further their education, you his family to continue funding his drug habits. |
CUMIN:Why should the elder sister be giving him any money at all? A 24 year old graduate of economics for that matter. He slashed their dad's car tyres and you think he should be rewarded with more money. Next time he will probably burn the house down. He has no regards for the father or the family. A family that paid his education up to university level. He is just a spoilt and entitled brat. Now the OP needs to file a police report with the video as evidence. He must be made to pay for the vandalized car. He must start learning that actions have consequences, which I am sorry to say your family has refused to teach him. He must also never be allowed to return to the house, until he truly repents. He most probably has joined bad gangs or cults, which is a danger to the whole family. |
after reading this thread by the OP, I realised he and his wife has more serious challenges. akpunda86:The wife herself is having medical challenges - both physical and psychological. You need to first and foremost take her to a specialist hospital to properly diagnose the cause of her waist pains. Then you need to talk to a physiologist or councillor to get to the root of her psychological condition. Sorry to say, you just can abandon her and run away as you have 4 kids who will need their mother to have a chance at a rounded life. Sorry for your predicament. |
akpunda86:Thanks. Please make sure you give those children a memorable Christmas, take them out to a mall or cinema (avoid the beaches). Then when their mother comes back from the village, have a heart to heart talk. The situation might be more serious than she is telling you. Women are sometimes mysterious beings, they sometime expect us to be mind readers. Ask her why she abandoned the children when they need her for Christmas. Encourage her to pour out her mind about the marriage. Why does she not cook in bulk. Cooking everyday can be draining. Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. |
akpunda86:I am jobless as I have other (plenty others) jobbing for me. In fact I am on my bed right but I am still coordinating by businesses. If you have job for me, I would but mind, since you seem to be very jobfull. Now, I am just giving you mature advice. Having been married for 15 years, I assume I am qualified to give you advice on marital issues. I had thought you posted the thread to ask for advice. I didn't realise you desired an echo chamber. You have poor communication with your wife and you don't think of highly of her and her opinion. If you had better communication, you would have told her your conditions before she is allowed to travel. Under normal circumstances my wife (who incidentally is from Imo) cooks for 2 weeks at a time and divides the food in compartments in the freezer. So even if she travels for 2 weeks, we will not starve. You are the head of the family, you need to lead but in love. Discuss your requirements, plans, and aspirations with your wife in order to achieve a common goal. I don't like the fact that you are threatening divorce on a very minor issue. You are talking like you did your wife a favour by marrying her. Yes! Sapele water is our culture, but at the same time woman no fit use food do shakara for us. |
akpunda86:Compliments of the season you too. May you find happiness this season and beyond. Well fellas sincerely wish I have the power to terminate my marriage I'm fed up 200%.You do have the power to terminate the marriage. If it's a court wedding, employ a lawyer and file at the nearest magistrate court. If it's traditional marriage, get your people together to go to your wife's people to return the bride price. Is Christmas season of love all families stay together but my wife left home to her villa to see mum, yeah is a gud stuff going home to see parents, but if well planned. We planned after 25th she can go at least stay with the kids, suddenly she said she wanna go, I let her go, just yesterday wanted to eat, our helper said no soup in freezer, Kai I have to go buy soup outside. Today 24th, I'm gonna go to market to buy soup stuff. It's most probably an emergency. You said further down that her mother is sick. It depends on the nature and seriousness of the sickness. She wanted to be there for her mother in case she dies. You my friend is being unreasonable for getting angry and wanting a divorce because your wife went to see her sick mother during Christmas. Is this the last chrismas that will happen before Jesus comes? Besides are you a child? To most men Christmas is for children. Abi you expect your wife to take you to see father Christmas? It is very painful. I regret getting married cos in this season any sensible person knows families gonna be together. In fact kids need to enjoy it as we did during our time.Family is supposed to be together every time (as situation demands) and not only at Christmas. Nothing stops you from taking the children out after she gets back. There is no law that says you can only take your children out on Christmas days. Salad we can't do, not that I don't have the money but I can't do it.You mean you can't prepare ordinary salad? And you are proud to say that? Well should out to Niger Delta guys - We dey cook pass our wives. My children alway look forward too days I take over the kitchen. They all tell my wife that I am a better cook. Her mum I told I'm not against ur daughter coming to see you, but she has to put her house in order first before embarking on a long journey. It was an emergency. She didn't have time or state of mind to put her house in order before going to see her sick mother. Why can't you help her put the house in order? After all marriage is supposed to be a partnership and not a employer/ employee relationship. Makes me regret a lot of stuff marrying outside my state, infact one can remarry, my spouse no go pass Enugu/Anambra.Marriage is not about tribe or clan, but about love, understanding and respect. There are lots of marriages from the same clan failing, even couples from Enugu/Anambra. Her mum sick, going see her I'm not against, my kids all crying all day long mummy mummy, I try pacify them. Her mum is sick and all you care about is your own selfish interest? You are very cruel and selfish. Your kids are crying all day even though they are in your custody? You must be a bad father then. I stayed alone with my kids for 1 week when their mother went to the village to bury her elder brother. There was no crying. Every December Na stress. It is true it is women that are mostly good in taking care of parents though we guys also do our best, but my wife has 3 brothes all married, as it is Xmas none of the wives is around so the daughters fall on.Women are closer and more emotionally attached to their parents than guys. Most women take care of their parents after marriage than men. I'm not writing this long epistle just that I feel bad as I don't know wat to do, sexually I gain noting from her, financially she doesn't support, it is only challenges she brings to me. If it continues like this, I'll leave the house for months 4 her and let her brain reset. You need to look into yourself and make necessary adjustments. You don't seem to love your wife and it shows. That's why she probably don't show you love too. You want to her to sexually satisfy you but you are treating her like a house girl. It doesn't work that way. My bother look into the mirror, and there you will find your problems. |
