benalvino2:"Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand" This is a direct threat to a segment of the Nigerian society. These people felt threatened and reported the tweet to Twitter. This tweet is also insensitive, as the slogan after the war was "No victor, no vanquished" Buhari is telling us that he is a victor and they are the vanquished. |
benalvino2:We also have Nigerian National War Museum in Umuahia, so I don't understand the point you are making. He said those causing problems. So he is not reminding the Igbos but those causing problems. Killings and burning down of buildings. Those who are dragging the country to a civil warHe never mentioned those causing problems or killing and burning down buildings. He said those that misbehave would be reminded on how they on the field dealt with their fathers during the civil war. There is a legal process of dealing with people killing and burning down buildings and genocide is not one of them. |
infohenry:Oil and Gas industry kwa? How many people can the oil industry employ? What's the total number of people out of the millions of unemployed degree holders are employed by Shell, Total, Agip and Mobil. Maybe you are talking about tanker drivers and petrol station attendants. The oil industry is one of the least labour intensive industries in the world. It requires more specialized equipment than physical human labour. Solar energy employs far more labour than the oil industry. |
Where is the job? There are thousands of Master degree holders searching for job and you are talking about OND holder. The new maxim is to create job for yourself and others. If with your OND, HND, BSC or MSC certificate you cannot create job for yourself, then the certificate is not worth the paper it is written in. |
benalvino2:You mean reminding the igbos of the Genocide carried out during the civil war and promising to repeat same is no hate speech? Why not substitute the Nigerian civil war with WW2, and a German councillor reminding Jews of the Genocide the suffered and threatening to repeat it. See whether it would be termed love speech. |
budaatum:Believe me, in the years to come many other incumbents would use the Trump playbook to remain in power after losing elections. They would claim that the elections were rigged even though the election Commissions, legislature and courts have verified the elections. They would simply refuse to leave. |
Igboid:OBJ willingly or should I say ran from power simply because he was not part of the coup that brought the government in power. The people that toppled Gowon were Murtala, Danjuma, Yaradua, Dimka, Bisalla. Murtala, Bisalla and Dimka had been eliminated. There was no way OBJ would have remained in office beyond 1978. Remember Gowon was removed because he kept postponing handing over. Dimka and Bisalla were implicated in the attempted coup that killed Murtala. It was so unusual for military to willingly leave power that OBJ was celebrated for that feat. Till today he remained the only military Head of state to willingly relinquish power. But the same OBJ reluctantly relinquish power when he had actual power during his civilian administration. If not of serious opposition from both home and abroad, OBJ would probably be doing a 7th term by now. It's the wish of every miliary ruler to Transit to civilian ruler at a point because they are always scared of the endless circle of military coups that could topple or even take their lives. Most military leaders transmute to civilian leaders for reasons you already stated. Most Arab leaders take that route. The worse is that they impose their sons after they die. There is little world leaders can do outside sanctions and probably support another coup or insurrection. They would not send their soldiers to remove a military dictator. What do you mean by saying that Aburi would not work because the military big boys would fight each other? Didn't they fight each other even in the dysfunctional 12 state structure? How many coups did NIGERIA have before 1999? How did Murtala Mohammed die?Exactly my point. The Aburi accord that imposes military leaders would still result in coups and power play among senior military officers. So Aburi would not have changed anything. |
Igboid:This is just a manta you keep repeating to yourself everyday to make yourself feel good. Aburi would never have worked. The military big boys would have still fought each other to a stand still bringing the while county down with it. Gowon, Ojukwu, Murtala and Danjuma would never have agreed to take orders from any other officer. Where have you ever seen military rulers relinquish power willingly to civilians? Once military gets to power they never leave except through coup, assassination, Revolution or civil war. |
gidgiddy:Sorry to say your argument is now getting ridiculous. Aburi did not impose military leaders abi? it imposed civilian leaders? Who appoints the military governors? Who will be the head of state of Nigeria under Aburi? or are you saying Nigeria would have had 4 different heads of states? How can you have resource control under a unified civil service being controlled by a military head of state that rules by decrees. The Aburi accord to me was simply power play and power sharing by competing military officers trying to consolidate their hold on power. And Akenzua saw through it. |
Igboid:You are making assumptions or should I say excuses that was not in the Aburi accord. The Aburi accord never said anything about returning to civilian rule. How would the regions be maintained in a military unitary system without elected executives and legislature? |
gidgiddy:Exactly. That would still have been the fate of Nigeria under the Aburi accord. Confederation could never have worked under a military government. The military operates a unitary command structure. The military heads of the regions would still take their authority and orders from the head of state. The Aburi accord would have had a chance to work only under a democratic environment, where the people are free to choose their leaders. One more thing you failed to consider is that the two most powerful military officers at that time - Murtala and Danjuma did not attend the Aburi accord, meaning they disagreed with the whole negotiations. So even if Gowon decided to implement the accord against the wishes of the other regions, what stops Murtala and Danjuma of planing a coup to remove Gowon, and then issue another decree cancelling the whole accord. Thereby plunging us into the war. It seemed that once the January 1966 coup took place, war was almost inevitable. |
gidgiddy:I am talking about the elected regional representatives before they were overthrown by General Ironsi. General Ironsi's decree 34 suspended the federal republican constitution of 1963 abolished the regions 3 months earlier. After Godin took over in July 1966, the situation was one of confusion. People though Gowon would return the country back to constitutional democracy, no he instead build on General Ironsi's legacy. 2) Aburi gave the 4 Regions a lot more powers than they had before the first coup. Infact, Aburi more or less made the 4 Regions a confederation because it gave them Regional Military. How did Aburi give the 4 Regions / provinces more powers when it imposed military leaders on them? How did Aburi give the 4 Regions more powers when the federal government civil service that is responsible to the military head of state controls everything? Is it possible for the regions to have control of their own affairs without their own executives, legislature and civil service? So it is mindboggling that an agreement that gave all 4 Regions so much autonomy is what Akenzua was againstAnd You think you are wiser than the former Oba of Benin and all representatives of the other 3 regions that rejected the Aburi accord? |
gwafaeziokwu:No mind am. If igbo women carry gun and help liberate their lands, what will be their rewards. Does he not know that accordung to igbo culture, women cannot inherit their fathers land? Why do you want women to sacrifice their lives for a land they cannot inherit? Also ask am what is the fate of Kurdistan today? With women carrying gun and fighting on the field and after more than 100 years of fighting, is Kurdistan a country? |
Icumsa45:Who unanimously agreed? We're the regions represented at Aburi? What what happened here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJLE8GGmY-I To me the Aburi accord was a selfish power grab by the military. It would have turned Nigeria into a military oligarchy in the guise of confederation. What happened to democracy and civilian rule that was truncated by the same power hungry military? |
Tolexandre:God bless you. You seem to be the only one that read beyond the headlines. The title is different from the article. The article said " It’s frightening that Nigeria has only 10 standard and accredited laboratories across the country" , but the heading spun it to "Only 10 Medical Labs In Nigeria Produce Reliable Results" . This simply means that many Medical Laboratories don't bother to register and go through the accreditation process because of high processing fees, high dues, frustrating administrative bottlenecks and of course "egunje". I am sure the only ones that gets accredited are government laboratories. I am sure states and federal government laboratories are more than 10. So it means that some government laboratories are not even accredited. |
Icumsa45:Because the other regions rejected the Aburi accord after it had been signed, especially the Midwest region. In a letter to general Gowon Prince Akenzua of Benin Kingdom rejected the Aburi Accord. |
basilico:Because ALL the people that had work for Trump always end up worse than before they started working for him. All his previous lawyers are either in jail or about to be prosecuted for crimes. His accountants and close aids are about to be prosecuted for crimes. Even his children that works for him are facing criminal charges. Most that that escape criminal charges can only get work at Foxnews after working for him. Is that the person you want me to work for? Not for all the dollars in the world |
Sipsum:Because Twitter cannot possible read hundreds of millions of tweets everyday. They depend on people reporting violations before they can look at it. Same with nairaland, a moniker has to be reported before it can be banned. That's how social media world. If the government had reported Kanu's tweets and it was not acted upon, then you can blame Twitter for double standards. |
Aaronsrod:Where is the giant? While I was staying at Orile Iganmu, rats that come to visit the house every night is bigger than that rational there. |
Omeizadean:Exactly. Most of our grand mothers or great grandmothers were given out in marriage before they were 16. There were never cases of cervical cancer. Even in Europe, during the Middle Ages and before the age of enlightenment, girls were given out in marriage once they start seeing their period. We did not hear of cervical cancer. Even till today, girls are given out in marriage before the age of 15 in predominantly Islamic countries like Pakistan, Indonesia, Afghanistan, etc. They don't record cases of cervical cancer. Where is the medical report and data linking cervical cancer with early sex in girls less than 16 years. Where is the research paper? I am not condoning teen sex, as it presents other physical and psychological risks. But giving wrong and unverified information should not be used to discourage it. |
basilico:What your brains find difficult to process is that you cannot accuse anyone based on assumptions. You require hard evidence. That you are unable to present evidence of something is not proof of fraud or crime. Even if you are caught m in a room with a dead person, you cannot be guilty of murder without the murder weapon, motif and opportunity. How come even before the result of the audit report comes out, you are already 100% sure of widespread fraud. From where did you get your evidence? Then if you guys are really concerned about election integrity in the future, should you guys not request forensic audit of the whole elections? Why only large counties in swing states that Trump lost? If there were fraud in all those counties as alleged, don't you then think the same fraud would have happened in all counties in the US? |
basilico:How can the root cause of people dying be investigated when the Republicans resist any form of investigation. They have been looking at Trump's tax returns since he was sworn in in 2016, since he has been hiding his tax returns. It did not start on January 6th. A lot of us has been ejaculating over Trump's indictment to come. We have been saying it for years, that he cannot escape the southern district of New York once he losses immunity. We all knew for decades that he ran a criminal organization in the guise of a property development company from New York. |
basilico:F o r posterity's sake I am asserting once and for all that, there was no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 US elections. The only evidence of miniscule fraud that had been proven was perpetuated by Republican voters. Joe Biden won clear, fair and square with 81m votes. Now if you have any evidence of fraud by Joe Biden or democrats in general, instead of assumptions, innuendos and conspiracy theories, present them for all to see. |
To douse probable legal tension, it is important for the proclamation instrument of the statement of emergency to expressly provide for the suspension of Chapter IV of the 1999 Constitution and its attendant enforcement rules,In effect Mr Malami is asking Buhari to execute a coup against the Government and people of Nigeria. |
Obrigardo:Trump's power lies with Twitter and to some extent facebook. These platform gives him the opportunity to reach out to large groups of far right organizations and members like QAnon, Proud boys, oath keepers, etc. Without Twitter Trump is a lame duck. His so called "latest technological innovation' - a simple blog, is a huge failure. The cloud of indictments is slowly gathering and a storm of charges will follow, with high possibility of jail time for Trump. I eagerly await the reaction of his cult worshippers. |
LegendHero:OBJ issued a shoot at sight order on OPC which is a pressure group of his own tribe. Can Buhari issue a shoot at sight order on Boko Haram or Fulani Herdsmen? Buhari is soft on Fulani Herdsmen because they are his brothers and sons, but issues shoot at sight order on IPOB. Is that not clanish or rather tribalistic. If I am president, I won’t also sit back and do nothing when herdsmen start killing my fellow Nigerians, burning crops, villages and raping women. No president in the world would remain in office with the degree of murders and insecurity being experienced in Nigeria. Such president would have since resigned, because the primary duty of government is protection of lives and property. |
GalaticHorde:What he does not understand is that voter turnout is highest when people are dissatisfied with the current administration, and lowest when people are not bothered enough to come out and vote out the administration. The unusual high turn out in the last elections was due to the democrats being fired up by their hatred of Trump and an equally riled up Republican base of Trump. Even within the Republican base you had riled up groups like the Lincoln Project that energized Republicans against Trump. |
basilico:It's not me dismissing the article as conspiracy theory from a right wing publication, the writer did it by himself in the last two paragraphs.
|
basilico:A lot of GOP did not like him. The press did not like him. The majority of Americans did not like him. The CIA, FBI and Civil servants did not like him. But you guys insisted had won the elections. Does that sound reasonable. It's now zuckerberg cash. Before it was George Soros cash, then it was Bloomberg cash and later Jeff Bezos cash. No one knows how zuckerberg cash was used, but then somehow you know it was used to bribe Maricopa County Board officials to rig Biden in. Honestly you have serious issues. |
basilico:A largely Republican board has something to hide? What exactly? |
Romanoff:Looks more like a bite wound. He better quickly go for a rabbis shot |
