Car Talk › Re: Your Experience With Near Death Car Crashes by 9icetoo(m): 8:13am On Nov 08, 2019 |
Abujafood: Hi All,
I just thought I start this thread first as a way to thank God for the miracle I had this morning while driving to meet up with an appointment! I was just a few inches away from death and how I managed to steer my car to avoid a collision with a trailer is still a mystery to me.
I had just missed my way heading towards Durumi (I initially wanted to connect Maitama with the highway heading towards Area 1) when I suddenly found myself driving towards Gwarinpa. I realised I was on the wrong route and decided to reverse on the service lane to re-enter the express from a diversion to make a u-turn and head back towards Wuse when suddenly I found a trailer which I hadn't seen from the rare view mirror driving at full speed on my left also trying to negotiate through the same diversion. The path was so narrow and the trailer so close to me that I just started saying my last prayers while still trying to control the vehicle. Luckily the trailer over took me without any contact made but the closeness between me and the trailer was so narrow with almost no space left that I thought I wouldn't live to see another day.
Anyways lesson learnt! Share yours pls! What lesson did you learn? I'd like to know. |

mammanbawa: In the case of Matrix and vibe Who copied who? Also, there are more similarities between the vibe and matrix than there are between the benz and Nissan Asi asi. X class and navarra na the same.show pictures to prove otherwise.
There's a very huge difference between the x class and navarra X class is wider There's a turbo diesel powertrain that's not from Nissan Interior is 100% dissimilar Suspension setup is not the same Handling is not the same Safety features too Ride quality too Exclusivity Benz reformed the navara and gave us a masterpiece Vibe and matrix have nothing dissimilar except for exterior features and maybe suspension |

Car Talk › Re: Get Your Quality Tyres Of Various Brands And Sizes!!!!!! by 9icetoo(m): 3:44pm On Nov 04, 2019 |
Temp A: effectively dissipates heat 115mph and above(how many of us drive this fast for sustained periods? On which naija road?. We don't really need it but if you can get it, good for you). Temp B:Effectively dissipates heat between 100mph and 115mph (who drives this fast for sustained periods in this our pothole infested roads for more than 10 minutes?) Temp C: effectively dissipates heat at maximum speeds of 85mph to 100mph (this is well out of most folks daily driving speed). From the above you can see that insisting on Temp A tires is just overkill. Granted, these ratings will degrade as the tires age but it doesn't make a temp B a ticking time bomb after just four years of use.
Treadwear is a ratio of how fast a tire wears against a tire makers other tyres. A treadwear of 400 is just saying the tyre will wear 4 times slower than a tyre with a treadwear of 100.
Traction of AA is best. A is superb, B and C will suffice if you drive within the limits but AA is the best. Lower traction rating of B and C will probably extend your stopping distance by a few meters. If you already know your cars braking capacity and factor this into your driving, I don't see this as being suicidal.
This reminds me of the synthetic and mineral oil argument. Even 1999 corolla owners were told to buy synthetic. Lol.
If you are not driving a race car, I wonder why you need to buy z rated tyres with AA traction and all that only to drive from Ladipo to Oshodi.
Go to your car manual, buy what your manufacturer specifies. You can also use good judgement to buy what is reasonably applicable.
My 2 cents. |

sooperrescue: I am not against his hustling but he should be knowledgeable in tyres to be able to educate us. The last picture shown does not look like summer tyres. Nigeria needs summer tyres at all times. There are a lot of tyres coming from the US that are all season tyres, a little to the left and a little to the right. Most of the tyres are speed restricted and so you find tyres with S speed ratings and temperature b. For a tyre to survive in the country, it must be temperature a without which the motorist is taking suicidal chances. He cannot now sell tyres to those asking without asking for the type of vehicle that needs the tyres. If it's a BMW, he does not know and therefore should ask and therefore propose to the buyer the type of tyres that will fit their car. Let him take pictures of the tyres showing the speed ratings and temperature rating of the tyres . Let's forget for now the date the tyre was made because that's another issue altogether. Let him tell us with pictorial evidence the speed and temperature ratings of the tyres that he wants to sell to the public. You didn't answer the question the guy asked you. I get your point about temp and speed rating but I tell you, I do not know any b rated tyre that can't sustain 120km/hr for 10 hours. The h speed rating commonly found on Chinese tyres can also withstand our national speed limit for hours. He has tyres to sell. Let him sell. If I tell him I drive a 2023 Mercedes without telling him if it's a tow truck or an A class, he won't be able to advise on the size or type of tyre I should use. Buyers will look at their existing tyre and buy same. As long as he doesn't sell tyres that are too old to be used (subjective, personally I wouldn't use any tyre more than 6 years old), or re-branded old tyres, then I believe (my opinion here) he is not doing any bad. |

vinzita1: Check engine light is not on Though, I have not scan it. Did you buy this car as a Nigerian used? Maybe the check engine light has been taped over or moved. Scan the regardless of the absence of check light. Check if you have a vacuum leak. Maybe you have gross air leak somewhere along the intake. My 2cents though. |

Piyke: Looks like its cheaper on Konga. My dear initially thought car was GDI o! MPFI can also suffer from carbon build up on intake valves/combustion chamber but not as much as GDI. Besides no one knows the octane rating and level of detergents in the petrol we use in Naija. Good thing is that the CRC intake cleaner is safe for use in MPFI engines as well. Since I will inspect with a borescope, I should be able to see any reduction in carbon after. I will try to make a YouTube video. The gumout on konga doesn't contain PEA. Without PEA, it's just like any other injector cleaner out there. Won't be very effective. PEA is what does the job. |

I checked the price of the humour on Jumia and it's 13k. Will do the maths and see if it's worth it. If I have to use it twice to get results, that's 26k. Almost three tanks of fuel. |

Piyke: Polyetheramine (PEA) is reputed to be the top-of-the-line detergent that breaks down carbon deposits. It is the strongest cleaning agent, generally expensive and not many cleaners contain it. Where did you buy it? And how much? |

Used 4 minutes him, tube, insulation tape and scotch tape to mend my Skoda Octavia turbo hose. Hose blew on a trip to Enugu from ph. A journey of 4 hours turned to 6. Couldn't get the hose in Enugu so got to work patching it. The finished work was impressive and held for two months until I replaced the hose. Even my in-law who witnessed the fix asked if I was a Kazeem. |

Car Talk › Re: Audi Vs Mercedes by 9icetoo(m): 7:50am On Oct 22, 2019 |
HeavenlyBang: That's funny. Let's compare 0-60 numbers. Audi Rs5: 3.7s AMG C63s: 3.7s
Both are equal stock, even though the Merc has way more torque and power. The Audi is also far more tunable, though.
Audi RS6: 3.6s E63s: 3.0s
E63s is faster.
Mercedes' fastest car is the AMG Gt63s doing 0-60 in 2.9s. Audi's fastest car is the R8 V10 Plus, 0-60 in 2.6s.
I have no idea how Mercedes-AMG is somehow better than Audi's performance arm. I was about to mention the R8. Merv hasn't beat that R8 yet. |
Car Talk › Re: Audi Vs Mercedes by 9icetoo(m): 11:22am On Oct 21, 2019 |
Neroiam: Yes, Audi offers enhanced performance and upgraded suspensions in some of their models
but Benz takes it to a whole new level with their AMG tuning arm.. Please you guys should stop mentioning AMG when talking about Benz in this group. Majority of the people who comment here can't afford it. Can't buy it and will not buy it. Let's not stretch the discussion to 2018/2020 models. Let's be realistic, we are probably talking about 04-13 models here which is within the buying power of majority of people here. Unless OP comes out to say he is looking a 13 models and above which his description does not suggest. Any time a Benz discussion comes up, someone throws in an AMG. Abeg, make we focus. Back to the topic, Audi is Volkswagen Las Las with higher luxury. I'd take an Audi over a Benz only if it will be a second car. I can't kill myself by myself. Remember, it's still a Volkswagen under that body with all the shortcomings of a modern Volkswagen. |

Iogobenz: Honestly as a young man trying to make a headway for himself,Merc or say German luxury isn't such a smart thing to do,except for early bloomers. My Merc has cost me more than ×3 of it's purchase money just to keep it running for 5years+ now. Japs are very reliable,I noticed ever since I went the Lexus way and my honda too back in the days never disappointed,no matter what! Also for speed, most japs take off the line very fast but then after 100kph,mercs start to catch up and later feed them dust till the end, except for some few. 9icetoo my car na C230k facelift, not C180k E pain me say n.a. you dey confuse my own car like this. Kingreign, you really think your RX330 will race my C230k and win?I don't think so. As for the 05 V6 Camry,I can attest to this,I don chop severe beating from e hand before and also from the 07 accord v6. Also some of these recent Mazda 626 na fire ooo. If I succeed to sell this my old Merc e go tay before I buy another one o lol. Maybe by say 2023/2024 I'll get a W205 jeje. Be wise, life no start and end on cars!! Ah, sorry bro. I been think say na C180. Just remembered that it has a supercharger. You you say all these una Benz nomenclature dey confuse me. Lol. No worries. Car Talk › Re: The Official Car Comparison/Recommendation Thread by 9icetoo(m): 8:13am On Oct 21, 2019 |
HeavenlyBang: The TL definitely doesn't handle as well as the G35. I believe the G has a 51/49 weight distribution, with a Viscous Limited Slip Differential. Also has a lower center of gravity. The TL with the shawd handles better than any sedan in its class and launches better. It can send more than 70% torque to any wheel and almost 80% to the rear when required. The CG should be similar to the G35. Acura had the best awd system in that generation. No other car manufacturer came close. |

You'll be surprised at the number of educated folks who will argue vehicle A moving at same speed as vehicle B can be faster. Some of them dey this thread dey observe on a low key
Years ago when I knew nothing about cars, I had an argument with my cousins on this topic. I tried in vain to convince them they were wrong. For where, they shut me down and said I've never even "driven" a bicycle and I'm arguing with them who have years of driving experience. These were well educated guys... Lol |
