dancok:Ah, well. There's your cause. Either the valve oil seal or the oil rings are shot. Either way, you drive it as it is until the oil consumption becomes unbearable or your neighbours insist you stop fumigating the compound or you change the engine or rebuild. |
Here we go again. The only advise I can give is that you go with a competent mechanic to check both out. Both are good cars. Of course, the know how to fix the camry abound. Not so much for the e320. Buy what you like. And if you buy a lemon, you learn a thing or two from it for your next car adventure. A car is meant to take you from a to b in comfort and send you back to your village with empty pocket. Have this in mind when buying. |
EgunMogaji2:You know na. ![]() |
lanre2009:You've used the car for 3 years in factory state without issues, why do you now want to create issues. Change the radiator to whatever cell you want. It's duty is just to take heat away. Retain the fan and thermostat setup the way it is. Ensure you use the recommended coolant instead of water. |
Originalsly:Simple. It's is what it is. It's not for the average income earner. You need to be okay to drive a Benz. You can't afford a Benz on a corolla salary. It goes beyond fuelling it. I like Mercedes Benz. Yes I said that but I've got better things to do with my money right now. If I have a lot more disposable income, why not, I'd buy an e class. I love them. But not now. If you ever open a thread asking if you should buy a Benz, then you aren't ready to own one yet. |
banky3w:You no say them no dey gree hear. |
diportivo: @ uber thread. |
valarinz:They don't know. |
I'm yet to see a Benz thread where Toyota and Honda doesn't get mentioned. And FFS, c180 and corolla are in the same category in car classing. Argue with your keyboard on that. Lest I forget, there is no Benz that can give the op what he wants. At least not any Benz made after after the bean counters took over. |
chukel:I go test am for you for Lagos. ![]() |
Eddee:You mean say you dey fence or you Don pitch tent for lekki or ogba? ![]() |
radautoworks:You are getting what no other mechanism will touch. A quote of 6 hour work on a Range Rover will surprisingly turn to 18 hours by the time you start undoing the damage already inflicted on it. Same with ford. And as soon as you fix one, they tell the others that there is one shop like in Kelli that can take their sorrows away. ![]() Then boom, they start pouring in. Keep up the good work. |
radautoworks:20w50 on the beat. ![]() |
chukel:Remind me to come for a ride. Welcome on board the mdx wagon. It will always leave a smile on your face. |
Things are getting out of hand. Cartalk is gradually turning to childrens playground. All is well Las Las. Auntyradu, you try gan. I for show ur side for B maintenance but it's just a B schedule maintenance without any numerical suffix. So I go just dey my house change the oil. ![]() When B1 service due, I go show. |
None that know of. It's just a Honda underneath those styling. Tuned differently and with slightly different awd setup. The j37 engine in the mdx is a replica of the j35 in Honda. Transmission is similar as well. So joining a Honda thread is same. The number of mdx owners is not big enough to have followership if someone creates a group on Nairaland. |
utimate:Like I said, the engine on the mdx is bullet proof. It was well made. I give that to Honda. The 2010 and up model engines burn oil a bit. But other than that, you are okay. Service engine and transmission when due and you are fine. Changing the belt when due is no biggie. It's same as the regular 6 cylinder engines that most mechanical do daily. Use recommended fluids and you will be fine. |
Smartchoiice:Does Mercedes manufacture parts? Pumps by Bosch, calipers by Bleep, pistons by Bleep, liners by Bleep etc etc. So anyone can buy from any of the Mercedes suppliers. |
It's fairly normal. They hunt gears. They try to stay in higher gears as much as possible in favour of fuel economy. If you can't find the update, don't bother yourself. It's normal |
chukel:Luvvinhubby should know |
Smartchoiice:Possible. Been there. Drove my Skoda Octavia tdi from ph to Lagos (Ajao estate), then to Iyana itire on 33 liters. Fueled up at Iyana itire and brimmed out the tank with 33 liters. If I had not filled up at iyana itire, I'd have got to owerri before refueling again. The tank on the Skoda maxes out at 60 litres. |
Smartchoiice:ML is short for miserable life. Op, if you are down for the misery, go ahead. |
victorsmile:How many miles did you cover with that half tank? You may have driven the length and breadth of Lagos and be expecting your needle not to move. |
It all depends. I drive the 08 mdx and used the highlander briefly in Lagos before porting down to the east. Drive: acura. That ride moves. 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. Faster than most sedans Durability: This is touchy. The acura 07-09 has a bullet proof engine as long as you change your timing belt when due and observe the b maintenance fluid schedules (transfer case, gear box, rear axle, engine oil etc). A variant of the highlander has the 2gr engine which is known to fail a bit too often from what I have read here and observed. Probably cos of wrong oils and OCI's. So for this, I'd say they are equal. Offroad: this is naija. If you ever find yourself in the village, you will appreciate the shawd of the mdx. I give the mdx this one. This also improves the driving g dynamics of the mdx Fuel economy: highlander hands down. Most mdx struggle to achieve 13mpg in the city and 17mpg on the highway. Thanks to our shity fuel. The highlander (4 cylinder) will give you the mpg of a sedan in an SUV. Ageing : both age well. I am yet to see a rickety or bad looking highlander or mdx Resale value:highlander. It's got the Toyota badge so that gives it an automatic 500k extra resale value. Parts: both cost roughly the same. None is cheap. The Bumpers for the 2010 mdx costs twice as much as that of the 08 model. So be careful who bashes you. Let it be a Range Rover so he can pay. If you want to out those pesky little cars in your dear mirror whenever they become annoying on the highway, get the mdx. Though you'd need to do this with the car light. If loaded, OYO is your case. |
ornicus:Any other question? |
kunmiiii:Call a spade a spade. The truck didn't leave the road to maim these kids in their homes or by the road. Look at the picture again, remove sentiments and tell yourself the bloody truth. The parents should be tried and jailed for sending these kids to hawk. This is even a highway FFS!!! When are we going to start accepting responsibility for our actions in this country and stop playing petty blame games? Next thing now is one idiot will light that truck on fire for nothing!!! |
Eddee:That's minimal. Why not try 10w40? It's still synthetic and shouldn't burn as fast. |
perpeling22:Any accident is blamed overspeeding. How convenient. No one has ever asked why okada is allowed to ply a highway. It is against the law for okada to ply the highway and they are quite reckless. FRSC should investigate the accident and prosecute those found culpable. I'm tired of hearing overspending as the cause of accidents in this silly country. Tired. Where the road self where you wan speed? With a million check points and pot holes (craters) dotting our roads. Mtchew |
makeitijn:You can't leave mowe by 6 and get to your workplace on the island by 7 or 8. You'd be late and you can't leave your office by 5 and get to mowe by 6. Blatant lie |
uboma:Recall my statement about vehicle size. Diesel has very high low end torque so it makes getting the heavy vehicles moving easier especially in city driving. |
Yeah well. That's what we get with Benz. No Lexus owner will advise another owner to sell cos of key. *Runs away from thread.* |
