Ikengawo: Stop selling this lie
Rockview is owned by Chief Alex Ekwueme, he recently sold it to a group of investors that in collaboration with him are renovating the hotel.
You haven't posted a road that wasn't there before Rochas. Owerri has been beautiful for ages, we're not going to come here now and say the beautiful pictures of owerri are because Rochas came and build this city out of sand. Please stop. I'm not going to say his government is 100% ajiroro but as it stands we're the most indebted igbo state. This is the highest disgrace possible. On top of this imolites are having a hard time seeing where this money is going outside of trotting the country campaigning for an APC candidate that doesn't exist. What about these locals didn't exist in these locals 6 years ago? Do you think it's today that Wethedral started to wear a civilized face? Stop with the falsehood.
Okorocha is a clown. He's an absolute disgrace and the age where our state's highest seat is a stepping stone for anyone's federal ambition or business expansion is over. Time is no longer on our side, we have no space for lies. Okorocha has erected 1 school out of the '300' he set to do upon getting elected.
This thread is about showcasing Imo State and not for lies aimed at discrediting the obvious. Remember we are in internet age and its easy to dig up some old videos of these same places to appreciate the changes. Your hypocrisy is legendary. What did Chime for example do in Enugu during his 1st tenure? Was it not upgrading of existing roads and urban renewal? It is always right to be truthful and leave out unnecessary bitterness because one can no longer get free access to public funds. Most of Imo and Abia debts were incurred by Sam Mbakwe and I don't see anything wrong with that because he used it for some infrastructural development. Are you aware that Cross-river is the most indebted State in the East? Akwa-Ibom is now the 2nd most indebted State even though having the highest allocation in Nigeria? I also put it to you that Imo's debt has not increased under this administration. You people are the ones creating imaginary debt without a single evidence just for political reasons maybe because you are feeling bitter at the level of progress with little funds.

What you owe this thread is to go snap pictures of beautiful Imo State and upload.

This is Wetheral Road as at 2012. Tell me you can't see any differences now. Courtesy naijatv.

PoliticsAnambra Poll: I’ve Told Governor Obi To Hand Over To Tony Nwoye by abagoro(op): 9:31pm On Nov 13, 2013
Nothing man no go hear for this we Naija. Tufiakwa!

The National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday declared that he had personally informed Peter Obi, the Anambra State Governor, to hand over power to Tony Nwoye, the party’s gubernatorial aspirant.
Mr. Tukur disclosed this at the closing rally of the party’s campaign held at the Holy Trinity Centenary Ground in Onitsha.
“I told Gov. Obi to hand over to this young man,” Mr. Tukur said, pointing to Mr. Nwoye.

The PDP chairman also said that the presence of President Goodluck Jonathan at the rally signifies the seriousness of the party to reclaim the state.
‘If you wish for something you send an emissary, but if you really want it, you come yourself. That’s why your Excellency came himself,” Mr. Tukur added.
President Jonathan, who admitted that he had to cancel his trip to Colombo, Sri Lanka, to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting “at the eleventh hour”, called on the Anambra people to make a decision that will “push the state forward” on the election day, Saturday.
The president apologized for the absence of Namadi Sambo, the Vice President, whom he said could not attend the rally because two of them cannot be in the same place at the same time “in case anything happens.”
“From what Arthur Eze said, we (him and the gubernatorial candidate) have similar background: attended primary school without wearing slippers,” Mr. Jonathan said.
“His own may even be better than my own,” he added.
The rally was billed to begin by 10 a.m.; but the ground didn’t fill up until noon when the president arrived.
And when he arrived, President Jonathan, decked in a native attire and a red cap, did a lap of honour with the PDP gubernatorial candidates, jogging lightly through the four corners of the expansive ground before taking up his seat.

“50 per cent of the private jets in Nigeria are owned by Anambra people,” the president stated during his keynote address.

payless: In a country like China, she would have been charged. Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa who steal money like that should be sent to prison.
If it was in China, she and most others should have been executed long ago. Nigeria needs to draw a line, forgive the past offenders and declare that henceforth any offender will face the death penalty.
CultureRe: Delta Igbo, Bendel Igbo: What Does That Even Mean. by abagoro(m): 12:27pm On Oct 31, 2013
bigfrancis21: By Delta Igbo, I'm referring to the true natives of the land. And not recent migrants from other areas such as the Ebu-Igala people, Ukwunzu-Ugbodu-Ondo people, and Oza Nagogo-Eshan people who are migrants from Igala, Ondo and Eshan lands respectively, who also recognize that they are migrants into Delta Igbo land.
Which ever way you look at it, every man has right to identity and cannot be forced to be what he choses not to be. This argument has lingered on for too long. I have stated times without number that Anioma people obviously speak Igbo language and share Igbo culture but also share Benin culture. The arguments I've been having with people like sonya, agbotaen etc is on falsifying and modifying history and language like claiming that Ika is not a version of Igbo language even though it obviously is.

Igbo bu Igbo or Igbos that completely agree to be part of Igbo union should try and work together 1st before trying to drag other Igbos into their union. Some people from your State like Nripriest, Chino and their likes in real world are instrumental to the inability of Igbos to work together. IMHO, it might even be better if Igbos go back to their original ethnic independence or some more liberal Igbos found in Ebonyi, Imo and Abia form a new type of Igbo without discrimination and jealousy as found in the present Igbo.

Igbos don't hate anybody but most of these Nairaland Igbos are just PDP agents playing to the gallery of their masters. Igbos as a people are very individualistic and often have differed opinions on every issue and can never agree. So never judge all Igbos from what is seen on Nairaland.

I was in Owerri and there's a dangerous direction politics is going. If I were Rochas, I wouldn't waste my money developing anything in Mbano and Mbaise and with Orlu zone being majority, he should form ally with Mbaitoli and Ikeduru so that Governorship will be rotated between Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta block, Old Orlu block, Mbaitoli/Ikeduru block and some parts of Okigwe. Most of those Nairalanders from Imo that lie against Rochas are from that area and some places in Owerri North like Ulakwo, Emii and Emekuku. Their main reason is because of Ohakim and Agbaso and 2ndly the development of Orlu. Abia State Government is actually attacking Orlu people who make up a bulk of the Millionaires and Billionaires in Aba believing that they are the ones behind Rochas.

PoliticsIts Not True That 62% Of Nigerians Live On Less Than $1 by abagoro(op): 6:50pm On Oct 30, 2013
A survey conducted lately by NOI Polls not only questions the dollar-a-day poverty threshold it also found out that Nigerians eat mainly bread, spaghetti, noodles, eba, fufu, semovita or amala.

This will no doubt get policymakers and development agencies talking and reconsidering how best to measure poverty. For business executives and economist that decry Nigeria’s lack of accurate quantitative data, I’m curious to find out how they connect the dots.

The major revelation of the poll was summarised thus “only about 2 in 10 Nigerians (19%) were found spending below N160 (US$1) for their meals in a day, with 80% spending above the threshold. Furthermore, on the assumption that people eat at least three times a day, the results indicate that less than 1% of Nigerians were found to spend below N160 daily.”

The disposable income and purchasing power of consumers in various regions across Nigeria and major economic factors such as local and international money transfers influence the demand and consumption of food items like instant noodles.

Edward Kingston, a consulting company, ranks Lagos, Kano, Oyo, Kaduna and Rivers as the states with the highest levels of consumption. Of the five, only Lagos produces more than it consumes. And of the 20 hotspots for growth by 2050, 5 of the cities are in Nigeria: Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Abuja and Port Harcourt.

http://businessdayonline.com/2013/10/what-nigerians-are-eating/

Notice that the poll was only on food and revealed that only 20% eat food of less that a dollar. This is without beer, water, soft drinks and others. Now compare with these reports as well as your personal experience.

http://bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-17015873

http://www.mydailynewswatchng.com/2013/10/08/62-per-cent-nigerians-still-live-poverty-line/

Poverty has risen in Nigeria, with almost 100 million people living on less than a $1 (£0.63) a day, despite economic growth, statistics have shown.

The National Bureau of Statistics said 60.9% of Nigerians in 2010 were living in "absolute poverty" - this figure had risen from 54.7% in 2004.

Acknowledging Nri-Oka civilization n the role played by the Nri does not take anything away from the part played by Oka.
Nri is not all of Igbo, but they did play a great role in shaping what we know today as the greater Igbo culture along with other Igbo groups like Aro.That is not such a hard thing to acknowledge n accept.
Oh,my beef with u is not about the most renowned of deities, that is a matter of individual opinion actually. My grouse is with ur classification of Oracular n "ordinary" deities, whatever those mean.
I personally challenge you to point out "Abagworo's revisionism" as you claimed. In all my statements I've always acknowledged Nri's influence but I boldly say it that Nri is not an Igbo aboriginal group for they came and met Igbos who were already settled. I'm ready to challenge anyone on that. The earliest Igbos are the Ihites/Ifites or Nfunalas or literally those that sprouted from earth or those that have lost history of ever migrating from anywhere and meeting any previous peoples.

How can Ironsi rush to kill Nzeogwu when the northerners have already killed many Igbo army officials and were still doing more?
How many northerners did Tafawa kill when Islamic fundamentalists were killing other nigerian s in the north in the 60s?
I know IBB killed Vatsa who happened to be his cousin for treason. Even Ojukwu ended up killing some of those people that Ironsi could not kill. Meanwhile I got another report from Imo State on another protest supporting her removal.

http://www.channelstv.com/home/2013/10/27/oduah-supporters-storm-enugu-airport-in-counter-protest/

Also, the kinsmen of the embattled minister who were joined in the protest led by a George Nwabueze, traditional ruler from Ogbaru community, threw their weight behind the Aviation minister. They argued that the whole scenario is a political witch hunt by some people who are against the re-election of the President in 2015.

Meanwhile, a group under aegis of South East Progressive Assembly (SEPA) condemned the action of the protesters. And insisted that the aviation minister must resign honourably to avoid the wrath of tax payers of whom she used their money in purchasing the armoured bullet proof cars.

While addressing newsmen in Owerri the Imo state capital, the president of the South east progressive assembly Ebere Uzoukwa said the actions by the aviation minister showed that she’s not capable of running the affairs of the ministry and as such, she should resign and allow President Goodluck Jonathan to appoint capable hands from any other part of the country.

Then Owelle is a fool and supporting stealing. This was exactly what led to Ironsi's death and massive killing of Igbos. If your sister is wrong, give her the punishment she deserves. If Ironsi hurriedly judged Nzeogwu et al and executed them as required by law without sentiments, there would not have been any war in the 1st place.
CultureRe: Ndigbo And Her 'integrated' Eri/nri Brother by abagoro(m): 10:33pm On Oct 27, 2013
NRI PRIEST: Nobody said there is nothing like Ubuni Ukpabi but don't you try to overstretch its reach and Importance. Leave Ubini Ukpabi where it rightly belong,Aro and sorrounding towns like Ngwa, Ikwerre and the rest. Ubini Ukpabi was a deity used to sale slave and defraud people. Why wasn't Ubini Ukpabi, ozuzu, kamalu and the one from awka consecrated and venerated all over Igboland and beyong like Ikenga, the four ancient Igbo gods(Eke Oye Afor Nkwo) and Ogwugwu deities like Udo,Omena of Onicha,Ogwugwu Akpu Okija ?

Now there is a new way popularity is judged: And that is by how many people that visited you and not by HOW MANY PEOPLE THAT KNOWS you. Achuo ya na ubi ogaa na oba...lol. funny character.
Ibinu Ukpabi is the Chief oracle of Southern Nigeria and nothing more. The Amadioha and Umonoha oracles at Etche and Isu were also founded by Aros. In terms of popularity Amadioha is like the Sango of Igboland and Chukwu is today used as the God of all Gods in Igboland. Many people do not even know that it originated from Arochuku.

I think this thread is about origin of Igbos and not the most influential Igbos. By the time Edo/Bini people come to claim the origin of Benin styled Kingship in one part of Igboland then another argument will start on which Kingship is superior whether Idu, Aro or Nri.

People are fighting cultural supremacy battle for no reason. Nri contributed to Igbo culture and nobody has ever doubted that but Igbo originating from Nri is blatant falsehood, wickedness to the real Igbos and a gross misrepresentation of facts.

Arochukwu writers acknowledged their mixed Igbo+Ibibio heritage but Nri writers have deliberately refused to acknowledge their mixed Igbo+Igala heritage, but rather claimed they founded Igbo and Igala.
CultureRe: Ndigbo And Her 'integrated' Eri/nri Brother by abagoro(m): 3:13pm On Oct 27, 2013
NRI PRIEST: Well,in order of popularity:

Ogwugwu Nri/Nshi
Ikenga Nshi/Nri.

These aare the only two deities that historians has identified as the most popular deities. Popular because almost all the communities in Igboland and beyond worshipped them.

I am waiting for you to tell me what made UbiniUkpabi the most important and how many communities whorshipped the oracle.

Even the apex Igbo group took her name from the most powerful and famous Nri deity,IKENGA. The group beign AKA-IKENGA. By the way Agbala is another name for Alusi/Deity/Oracle. Try again,mr revisionist!
You are very funny. The most popular deity in Igboland is Amadioha and it is an Aro thing. Most people started hearing about this Nri or Nshi while reading in school and not from their village or parents.

All of Igboland and beyond to Ijawland, Cameroun and Efik/Ibibio were consulting the Ibini Ukpabi or Chukwu.

ezeagu: Just for reference sake, Eri's date of existence in 'reputable' academia is between 900-1250. So we're talking about a 500+ year window here which is ridiculous.
That's a lie. Most of the Eri migration stories are centered around 15th to 17th century. The reason why the 9th century issue came up is because of the Igbo Nkwo discovery. Nri writers linked it to Nri instead of the host community who are of course not Nri.
CultureRe: Ndigbo And Her 'integrated' Eri/nri Brother by abagoro(m): 12:01am On Oct 26, 2013
Antivirus92: My stand in igbo history is that we should find the missing links in our history and not destroying them. I am from oraukwu. I grew up only to be told by my elders that my town is majority of migrants from nri. And that my family is among them. Igbos speaking same language and same culture is more than coincidence. Igbo has existed thousands of years before the advent of white men. So there is no way the white men can give an accurate account of what has existed before them. Our oral tradition has an extent to which it will break. So relying on it is useless. Our fore fathers did not document or write any form of histories. So when a community which use to be igbos only expirience any form of invasion or influx of strangers. The oral history will be adjusted. So the histories we have today may just be watered ones which has metamorphosized over time.
The fact that needs to be addressed is that Nri met already established Igbo communities and those people are the real Igbos. Nris, Aros and Idus came to already established proto-Igbo communities and affected their normal lives by establishing Kingship, deities and slave trade.

COTONOU  (AFP) – Benin said Thursday that it had discovered 87 million barrels of oil off its coast, a tiny amount compared to neighbouring Nigeria’s reserves, but which could boost the small country’s economy.
“We have discovered oil in a significant commercial quantity with Sapetro company which works on Bloc 1 of the sedimentary basin off Seme Podji coast”, energy minister Barthelemy Kassa told AFP.
Sapetro is a Nigerian gas exploration and production company.
Its chief executive, Daisy Danjuma, wife of a former Nigerian army chief Theophilus Danjuma, said that first commercial oil production will begin in late 2014.
Kassa said the discovery would help to finance the country’s development projects.
“It is a historic discovery for our country because this will enable us to finance our development projects,” he stated.
