PoliticsN18.5bn Debt: AMCON To Take Over TINAPA by abagoro(op): 1:04pm On Oct 16, 2013
The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria is to take over the management of Tinapa Business Resort following a settlement agreement with the Cross River State Government for the transfer of its controlling interest.

By the agreement, AMCON is to buy back Tinapa’s debts totalling N18.5bn and provide N26bn for the revitalisation and resuscitation of the resort to reposition it as a private sector driven enterprise.

Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Larry Odey, who informed members through a letter with reference no SSG/GSA/300VOLXV1/223 and captioned Re-approval for the transfer of controlling interest in Tinapa to AMCON, said the development was a thing of joy to the people of the state.

The circular was obtained by our correspondent in Calabar on Tuesday.

Odey said, “The negotiation has been concluded and this is cheery news to members of the Cross River State House of Assembly.”

The Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort was inaugurated in 2007 by President Olusegun Obasanjo with the aim of boosting the socio-economic development of Cross River State.

Unfortunately, the huge edifice, which would have been the ‘Dubai of Africa,’ had been faced with several challenges which had hampered the achievement of its objective.

Over the years, the state government had explored several avenues to ensure the realisation of the objective for which Tinapa was established.

Following the inability of the resort to meet desired expectations of the state government, core investors, especially banks and some LGAs, it was realised that the most viable option to salvage Tinapa was to seek a private sector equity investment and divestment of significant interest of the state in the project.

The matter, which has been presented to the Cross River State Executive Council, is being given express consideration.

A member representing Ikom 1 Constituency in the assembly, Mr. Agbiji Agbiji, however, observed that the content of the letter did not mention the contributions of local government areas in the state.

He said, “The LGAs have invested, so the state government and they want to know the cost of ceding ownership to AMCON and other details of the Memorandum of Understanding.”

Another member, Mr. Jake Enyia, commended the wisdom of the state government, but added that the LGAs’ interest must be taken into consideration.

He noted that the idea behind the establishment of Tinapa was elitist, even though the intention was to transform the Cross River State economy and improve its revenue profile.

“We should not just pass it because it will amount to legislative rascality; we need to put things straight because when I was chairman of council, I contributed N180m, so also other council areas.”

pazienza: I had once met a woman from Abi lga, an agbo from the town of Igbo ekureku. She said that their language is far from the central igbo, but that they have many igbo words in their language, and that it won't take a person from her town too long to learn central igbo, but that an igbo person cannot easily understand her language.

I met her in a market, i noticed she was making a phone call in a language that sounded igbo, yet i couldn't understand a word, i mean nothing at all, yet the language sounded like igbo, when i queried her,she told me that she is from cross river. According to her, it took her 3months of staying in Aba to learn how to speak central igbo.
Legbo is also called Igbo by locals but is not exactly same as Igbo of Southeast. The issue here is that Ikwo people of Ebonyi can understand Legbo while Legbo people understand Ikwo and they share same names and traditions as a result of long interaction. The creation of ethnic groups by Europeans led to the definition of boundary between these two brothers and there has never been peace since then. Legbo is related to Ekoi who are also the source of origin of many Igbo communities while Ikwo is Igbo.

millionaireman: Yes, perhaps ketoprofen and chino72 are laughing at Orlu and its people for massively supporting an Okorocha who turned around to undermine development in Orlu that most supported him in 2011. Okorocha's first act of decreeing that water supply is privatised by his govt was the first and near fatal blow on Orlu, including on Okorocha's place of ancestry. It shoul have been the turn of Orlu and environs to be provded mass water supply system by govt when Okorocha assumed office as Imo sttate governor. After all, BILLIONS OF NAIRA WORTH mass water supply infrastructure invested by govt are on ground in both Okigwe and Owerri waiting to be reactivated by any government. As stated earlier, both Udenwa and Ararume got the Feds to help in completing the Okigwe water scheme. During the last days of Udenwa/Obj admins, Udenwa pleaded with OBJ for the Fed's assistance to help the state govt realize the Orlu surface water supply scheme. The plea was made in front of then governor-elect Ohakim. But for now, Okorocha has sentenced Orlu people to untreated and unsafe borehole water with his privatization aimed to save money for who knows for what. It costs three times what is spent to build borehole in Owerri to do same in Orlu. Abagworo may not even know that it is worse to drink untreated water from borehole from his Oguta area nearer to oil and gas producing wells. Check all these facts written out here if in doubt.
From what you wrote above, I've concluded that you are a hater and no longer deserve my attention. I'm sure your type will dismiss all the glaring good deeds and keep looking for what has not been done. The entire Nigeria use borehole.

Billyonaire: Hahahaha This Rochas is a cunning comedian and Political Philistine. Comparing Hell Fire to Road, makes him my comic object of 21st Century leadership. I like his hypocrisy though.
So what is hypocritical here? The bad road has lasted for more than 20 years before Okorocha came to power and people seem to ignore all his works and focused on the road as his shortcoming. The next thing now is for the haters to ask villagers to resist the expansion of the road and arrange kidnap of road workers.
PoliticsRe: Orji Stops Okorocha’s Birthday Reception In Abia by abagoro(m): 8:31pm On Oct 15, 2013
millionaireman: Abagworo? At this stage, he must have disappeared from the thread? I specialize in saying the truth after he must have spammed any thread with falsehood.
And you expect all the roads in Orlu to be 100% complete within 1 and half years. I've not been to Imo State for about 6 months now but most roads in Orlu were 80% complete when I went there last. I believe that they should be completed by middle of next year. Infact by middle of 2014 many of the roads started by Rochas would be completed or nearing completion. Rochas remains the best politician and successful Governor to come out of Igboland hands down and the only close competitor is Ngige. Chime is an achiever but not a politician. Akwa-Ibom as at 2009 which was Akpabio's 2nd year with high allocation and reputable Julius Berger had not commissioned anything. In fact the Governor was even pelted with sachet water.

https://www.nairaland.com/370680/gov-akpabio-stoned-satchet-water

So what Rochas has done in 2 years has never ever been done in Nigeria. In fact many people even mistaken him as being in his 2nd term.

The difference between a man elected by the masses and a man rigged into office is that the elected one listens to the voice of criticism and considers the people in his actions and inactions. Okorocha is indeed a listener. What else will the critics say now?
PoliticsOkorocha Declares State Of Emergency On Failed Naze-obinze Road by abagoro(op): 8:15pm On Oct 15, 2013
Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has declared a state of emergency on the Naze-Nekede-Ihiagwa-Obinze road, describing it as “worse than hell fire.”
Okorocha, who made the declaration during an assessment tour of the deteriorated road, also confirmed that he had received several complaints on the bad state of the road.
“I have received several complaints about the bad state of this road. Honestly, I never envisaged that it was as bad as what I am seeing now. It is worse than hell fire,” Okorocha said.
He assured the people that trooped out to welcome him at Nkwo Ukwu Ihiagwa market square that the contractor must start work on the road as soon as the rains stop.
“I assure you that the contractor will resume work on this very important road as soon as the rains stop. The suffering of the people of this area must stop”, Okorocha said.
He, however, warned that people must be prepared to make some sacrifice, pointing out that those whose stores, kiosks or buildings were built along the way, which equally obstructed free flow of flood water, will be demolished in the process.
The governor also warned the people to also resist the temptation of building their houses close to major roads, adding that such development impedes expansion of the road whenever government was ready to do so.
Speaking also, traditional ruler of Ihiagwa, Eze James Muruako, commended the governor for coming to see things for himself, pointing out that his people have suffered more than enough as a result of the bad road.
The royal father pleaded with the governor to ensure that only a reputable contracting firm was given the assignment of doing the road.

I think it is best to change the title to "Rwanda an evidence of judicious leadership". That way we can take a very critical look at Nigeria in general and understand how wicked our leaders are and how dirty our followers are. Why can't Nigerians repaint their buildings, mow their lawns and dispose of refuse adequately. The state of Kigali should be a shame to all of us claiming giant of Africa. We need complete re-orientation.

PoliticsRe: Rivers State VS Rwanda: Why Amaechi Should Is An Underachiever by abagoro(m): 11:13am On Sep 21, 2013
What has your Oga done for Riverine people in particular and Niger Delta in general? Let us start with that. I'll list Amaechi's contributions outside Port-Harcourt.

1) Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo road with several bridges. By December this year and for the 1st time in the history of mankind my Opobo brothers can drive their families home by road with their family car which they use in Aba, Port-Harcourt or Yenagoa. http://www.nigeriannews.net.s2.gvirabi.com/index.php/sid/215283906/scat/8db1f72cde37faf3

2) The Rufus Ada George ring road in Okrika which is ironically Patience Jonathan's hometown.

3) Ogu/Bolo link road. Ogu-Bolo LGA is inhabited by same Okrika people.

4) Trans-Kalabari highway which will link all Kalabari communities is under construction as I write. This is something many considered impossible in the past.

All these projects are in riverine areas which has same terrain as Bayelsa.

NTA-Choba is a complete road today. Maybe he was in Port-Harcourt last year. Like I wrote earlier, Amaechi does not go about with helicopters taking pictures of roads to boast or show off. I believe many people living in Port-Harcourt don't even know the looks of Okporo Road today.

PoliticsRe: Amaechi's Port Harcourt In Pictures by abagoro(m): 10:26am On Sep 21, 2013
PapaBrowne: If you believe Port Harcourt is nice, why not show us some pictures of nice port Harcourt with wonderful roads that Amaechi has built.

I'm a regular PH visitor and the city is disappointing. I mean what happens to all the allocation that accrues monthly.
If you visit Uyo you can see the obvious impact of the governor and thats why the internet is filled with pictures of the city.
Same with Enugu. Same with Calabar and even Benin City is coming up.
If you go to Lagos, you will see the Obvious impact of Fashola on the state.

But Port Harcourt, a complete mess. The only thing Amaechi did was the schools he built. However, you never see students at the school and I wonder why.
Why the lie brother? Almost the entire old Port-harcourt has received new drainages with pavements and walkways. That alone has surpassed everything in Akwa-Ibom State. The compensation on demolished houses alone has cost more than the entire roads in Akwa-Ibom or Enugu. I cited example with Okporo road which is a short road of about 2.5km where compensation of over 2billion was paid. What about NTA road which is over 22km and runs through several settlements with demolished properties? I can't list Amaechi's impact because they are endless and incomparable.

r u a spy or sumtin..,thats flood i see there..,a typical example of environmental crinkum crankum..,a recent one just hit colorado, usa.giv us better shots or don't post anything atall
There are many bad roads in Rivers State but I believe that what Amaechi has done thus far apart from the monorail and private jet (prestige projects) justify the allocations. Port-Harcourt is expanding so rapidly and hence the problem of indiscriminate building is expected.
PoliticsRe: Amaechi's Port Harcourt In Pictures by abagoro(m): 1:08am On Sep 21, 2013
Have you ever wondered why you don't see helicopter pictures of Rivers roads and adverts all over the internet? Amaechi is not a noise maker but he has achieved a lot. Let me just give an example with Artillery junction/Okporo road. More than 200 houses were demolished on this road and a compensation of more than 2billion Naira paid with people still demanding more till date. It passes through 4 very populated indigenous Ikwerre settlements of Rumuogba, Okporo, Mgbuesilaru and Rumuodara and the width of the road had to be compromised because of the ancient settlements. If Amaechi wanted cheap popularity,he would have used the 2billion to go outside Port Harcourt because fools will commend him more.

I don't think Roads are actually the true yardstick for measuring performance. Taking pictures of bad roads will only prove that there are lots of bad roads in Anambra but it does not give information on other sectors. Anambra as a State needs improvement in aesthetics and that's the part I've kept criticizing Peter Obi on. Its not all about money but beauty and good life is important as well.

I wonder how most of you came about certain things you spew out here. How did Odili betray his region? Odili's plight was as a result of his ethnicity. He's an Igbo from South-south and hence was resisted from taking the turn of South-south when they were considered by OBJ for Presidency. Odili was disliked in Rivers because of his political tactics of using youths and in that process creating militancy. It is the same with Patience and Bipi's style.
