EducationRe: 10 Common Words Nigerians Use Everyday That Don't Exist by Afam4eva(m): 7:35am On Apr 19, 2017
ngoremeka:
Many people speak English as their first language. It is one of the most commonly spoken languages in the world.
Nigerians are very good at a number of things and one of them is inventing their own version of English which has become popular overtime.
Some of the words and phrases we use often cannot be found in the dictionary. Some are words you picked up from others and they have become quite a norm.
It is not only the uneducated folks that are guilty of using these wrong words as the very educated Nigerians also use the English language inappropriately.
Below are words Nigerians use that don’t exist in the English dictionary.
1. Go-slow: When Nigerians say go-slow, they mean congested traffic, which is wrong. The meaning of go-slow in the English dictionary is, a form of industrial action in which work or progress is deliberately delayed or slowed down.
2. Disvirgin: This word is used on a daily basis by many Nigerians when they intend to say a woman has lost her virginity. There is no word like disvirgin. The correct word to use is deflower. Disvirgin simply does not exist.
3. Trafficate: Nigerians use the word to describe a situation where a driver indicates to other drivers that he/she wants to take a turn. It is used so often, that it has started to sound like proper English.
4. Flashing: Every Nigerian knows “flashing” to mean when someone calls your mobile phone and cuts off before you answer. The word ‘flash’ is so common among Nigerians and its used at least once daily by many. Flash has different meanings but none has anything to do with a phone call. The word doesn’t exist in that sense in English.
5. Installmentally: Don’t be tempted to use the word ‘installmentally’. Though it sounds correct, it isn’t. There is no such word in the English dictionary as it exists only in the Nigerian edition of English language. The correct thing to say is ‘in installments’.
6. Opportuned: What exists in English dictionaries is ‘opportune,’ without ‘d’ at the end. Opportune means ‘timely’ or ‘well-time, especially convenient or appropriate for a particular action or event. Opportuned is only common in Nigerian English.
7. Cunny: This is a word which Nigerians use to describe someone that is being deceitful or crafty. The right word is cunning not cunny.
8. Next tomorrow: Most Nigerians generally use “next tomorrow” but there is not such word as next tomorrow. Instead you should say, “a day after tomorrow."
9. Packer: Nigerians probably got the word from pack. The right word is dustpan. Since dustpan packs dirt, Nigerians like to call it packer.
10. Pepperish: It is common to hear Nigerians describe a meal that has too much pepper in it as pepperish. The proper word should be ‘peppery’. No native English speaker uses the word pepperish” to describe the burning sensation we feel from eating pepper.
Which of these words are you guilty of?
Not too late to learn something new,I learnt too.. you can add other mistakes below
Atleast you could have given credit to the original writer.

If you have the money, then building is better because you can build the house according to your taste. The only downside of building is that you may not get a favourable location whereas you can buy a house in any location.

please tell me what you enjoy there, even Stella is a better writer.
I don't think even Linda Ikeji has ever claimed to being the best writer or blogger. She's just simply the biggest and most successful, that commercial success. Stella's blog hasn't translated into money for her. Maybe she's not after the money anyways but i doubt that.
CelebritiesWhy Lindaikejis Blog Is Failing by Afam4eva(op): 7:36pm On Apr 18, 2017
I just read a remilar topic here https://www.nairaland.com/3573363/lindaikejisblog-failing-it-seems-linda and the issues raised as to why Linda Ikeji's blog is failing are cogent points and as much as putting those things in place will give a website more credibility, it doesn't really apply to Nigerian sites, espcially entertainment blog and especiall if it's Lindaikejisblog.

Linda Ikeji has been running her blog all the time that she was in the top 5 most visited sites in Nigeria and not much has changed as far as the site design or structure is concerned.

Considering the fact that Linda Ikeji did not perform any magic to get where she is today, it is safe to say that she was lucky. I'm not underscoring the hardwork she has put into her blog over the years but she started blogging at a time when there was little or no competition in blogging and she kept at it for years while a lot other fell by the way side.

Now, she has gotten to the highest height in blogging and that is the point where hardwork no longer cuts it. You have to do more than just hardwork. Linda Ikeji is not a techy person and doesn't understand how these things work. Even now that she has managed to get some tech guys, i feel that they're either inexperience or are not telling her the truth.

Having said all these. Now to the real reason why her blog is gradually losing it.

Her blog started losing it at the exact time she launched LindaIkejiSocial. She put most of her effort on the social media platform and neglected her blog. Some one said that she used to have a lot of comments on her blog but it has reduced drastically. Actually, it hasn't reduced. it;s just that she doesn't come around to approving hundreds of comment for each post like she used to.

Another reason is the fact that some of her loyal fans have crossed over to her social media site. I was there briefly and there are some die hard LIS people who eat and breath LIS.

Let's also not forget that instagram happened and you can get almost the same news you get on Linda Ikeji blog on some Instagram pages. So, what the heck?

Come to think of it. Even the Linda Ikeji social that she spent all her time on and managed to get into the top 300 most visited sites in NIgeria is currently at 1,819 which is embarrassing in my humble opinion. Even Linda Ikeji music is error. The traffic is embarrassing. The only place she seems to be doing well is in her Youtube channel which she has managed to garner atleast 8k followers.

Ultimately, Linda Ikeji has to understand that having more business interests does not mean that others should suffer. She should get more technical hands because it seems she's suffering in that department.

Anyways, i think Linda Ikeji will be relevant for a very long time to come. Not necessarily through her blog though. We wish her the best.

Yeah, very true! Her comments section keeps dwindling every day! You hardly find any post with up to 100 comments!
I think she is putting too much effort in that her new website!
It's actually not dwindling. She's the one who doesn't find time to approve her comments.

First and foremost, Yoruba no dey answer that kain english name. So, the guy is either from the south east, south south or middle belt.

No, looking at the fake name he used "Michael Mordi", only an Igbo person or someone conversant with Igbo names will choose that surname. Someone who isn't Igbo and wants to use an Igbo name will use popular names such as Nwachukwu, Chukwuka or even Chineke.

Besides, that guy's confidence despite been dealth a big blow to the eye seems very Igbo to me. If na Yoruba guy, im facial expression would read "Aiye mi ti ta grin".

As the representative of Ndigbo all over the internet, i hereby accept this impersonator as our personal person. I confer on him the "Onye oshi 1 of Lagos".

Which one is upland and riverine. Rivers state is one. It doesn't matter where the governor comes from as long as he performs.

Btw, where does the Ogoni people come in all this because by definition, they are upland.

12. There is no gainsaying however, that Rivers Ijaw remains the largest single sub-tribe in Rivers State, bigger than the Ikwerre and bigger than the Ogoni nationality.
Who can verify this claim.

RomanceRe: You Can't Cheat On A Girlfriend, You Can Only Cheat On A Wife - Reno Omokri by Afam4eva(m): 1:43pm On Apr 18, 2017
Actually, it depends on how you choose to look at it.

When you get married to someone, both of you have made an agreement, both consensual and documented not to cheat on each other.

When you become someone's boyfriend or girlfriend, there's also an unwritten rule that both of you will be faithful to each other.

The only difference is that the latter is not documented. But even the one that id documented is not binding as it's not a crime to cheat. It's only immoral.

I believe ones word should be their bond whether it id documented or not. If i become your boyfriend, you have agreed to be with only me, except it;s explicitly stated otherwise. So, when you cheat, you have gone against our verbal agreement, though it's not a crime.

Please, I'm dating this girl since about January. she loves me and I like her too. but the problem is she seem to be giving much attention to my 'not too close friend' whom I feel they've developed feelings for each other. it makes me feel im standing in the chance of something great. I recently stumbled upon his inbox and was wowed with the kind of chat history they had. but I know they aren't dating yet.

im thinking of a break up now cus I'm not sure my emotions can stand their friendship and plus I get so jealous at every slight thing.
but the other me seems to say I might lose something great.

pls drop your candid opinion.
My friend, what will be will be. All you have to do is confront her and hear what she has to say and if she denies it and you still feel an affinity between the two of them, then it's in your best interest to break up with her. Atleast you've already prepared yourself mentally which shows that you're a good person. She doesn't deserve you.

No. I gave her attention because she looked like a student of that school, and I was surprised she was selling what she was selling. I only put the pretty there to get people to read the story. You can see I didn't mention her looks in the story.
Why did you think she looked like a student of the school? Don't tell me it's not because she's pretty. As much as i hail her hustle, i think it's imperative that we stopped giving people recognition because of how they look. There are thousands or even millions of hawkers all over Ibadan selling all sorts but your eye was only caught by this one girl?

FamilyRe: The Dilemma Of Inter-tribal Marriage by Afam4eva(m): 10:37pm On Apr 17, 2017
BaesDiary:
1. Should we go into an intertribal marriage that lacks the consent, approval or happiness of our parents?
Every prospective couple will have to decide what is best for them. Just like some people get married because of their partner's good behavior, others get married because of hips or boobs. In the same way you have to decide which is important, consent or love. It's the decision of the couple to make.

BaesDiary:
2. Should a woman who has the love and support of her man do what it takes to marry him and ignore signs of all the impending-troubles?
Like i said, it;s her choice to make. If she's ready to take what comes to her from his family because of love, then why not.

BaesDiary:
3. Why do people kick against inter-tribal marriages? Are there disadvantages of inter-tribal marriages?
People kick against inter tribal marriage for several reasons which includes but not limited to the fact that they want someone who understands them based on cultural terms.

There are merits and demerits of inter tribal marriage but it's still boils down to the people involved. If an inter-tribal couple break up after one year in marriage, it's not necessarily because they're from different tribes but because they failed to work on their marriage just like other marriages of people from the same tribe.

If they broke up because of tribal misunderstandings then it's because they allowed their misunderstandings get to them. It's no different from couples having financial problems.

Though his comment is highly irresponsible and he deserves what he gets. I wonder why someone will just use their own hand to destroy what they've built.
