Rheinmetal, I totally disagree with the bolded part above. If you watch that video, not once did Lerato raise that wine or glass in any threatening position. Rather she kept trying to balance the glass of wine in her hand and this contributed to her falling down.
Also, during there chest to chest face off, not one drop of wine fell from those glasses as they were kept in natural positions, thus such a statement/defense by Hanni would only show him as not being contrite but knowingly pushing/hitting Lerato.

You cannot give the same punishment to the villain as well as the victim, that is not the essence of justice. Or is it?

To me, HiTV had a faulty business plan.

1. Their model was based on EPL being the main thing Nigerians wanted on cable or DTH, very bad assumption! And forgot to develop other contents.
Imagine trying to get 2,500 from CTL for showing EPL matches when the subscription to that cable is 3,500!

2. They were burning bridges rather than partnering.
They chased and harassed viewing centres and other cable providers. Even their CMTV deal eventually hit the rocks! They wanted to be the ONLY  player rather than the 'biggest' player. If they had shared and entered into partnerships, who knows what would have happened.

3. They relied on the Nigerian business environment, where deadlines are not enforced. The FA gave them an ultimatum, they failed to meet the deadline set. Simple. They knew about the deadlines for over a month. One wonders why they were shopping for foreign backers when they couldn't even get the local banks for back them up.

@Toskom, do not get deceived, HiTV only paid for 1 season as was required, the other two seasons they had a right of first refusal at the reserved price. HiTV failed to pay or provide a guarantee that they would pay. Don't allow your Nigerian mentality to affect how you analyze businesses. Businesses thrive when they have money or guarantees that money would come in. The FA aint no father Christmas you know.

Yes, they have used EPL to launch themselves, but I am dismayed that they have not done so much to develop more content. Once the EPL season ended, HiTV programming was lost in the oceans.

That a business district is about 4 square miles is no problem, but to refer to it as a city? Haba! That VI is congested is a mirage of a belief by people that are lazy. The Vegas strip keeps evolving with new hotels almost every two years. However, the strip itself has not been expanded in 30 years! What smart people do is reclaim the land, destroy the old and build new ones. With the right financing, you would have two vegas strips in VI without any probs.

The floor limit is about MAXIMUM height, paddy_lo had been inferring a MINIMUM HEIGHT.  There is a whole world of difference between the two.

Read Mr Chagouri's mail to you, he clearly also stated that they have no say in what the developers build, just that they need to conform to certain zoning. That they build one circular financial centre within the estate doesn't make it any better than what it is. That teh developers, can build whatever they want, so long as they conform to zoning.

In case you do not know, 80% of the Lagos coastline, is for now inaccessible for lack of development. While another 40% of the accessible ones have been taking up by the government agencies (their offices and all, almost the entire Ahmadu Bello way beach front is occupied by government offices, leaving only the Bar Beach end for public use. So when private developers now decide to put Meridian Atlantic city in its front, you believe the people should keep quiet because there are private beaches also in Rio and Cape Town. Try and visit Cape Town and see the expanse of public beach compared to the private ones and the development there before you start to compare the two.

I still have not gotten responses on this particular aspect of the project. According to Chagouri, the project development includes road development, utilities etc. So, I am thinking this will be a fully self-serviced estate on the island for now. I am also assuming the roads,water, electricity, and possibly security etc will be produced and provided by the main project owners and so there will be not much of a need for government intervention. And this also brings up more questions. Like, if it is really the case that the government has no control on what is done in this area, exactly how much do we get in taxes as so many claim will be the benefit we get to reap from this?

Once there are businesses there, then government has got to be involved. A whole Lagos State can't have its own police force and you want to believe the Eko Atlantic Estate would provide its own security!
What of refuse disposal? Sewage management? Electricity? We are in Nigeria, electricity usually means power lines are there and would be connected to public grid.

Nope! That is the simplistic way of looking at it. Once this project is completed and people are living and paying taxes to Lagos State government, gbam, the problem is now that of the government.
Supposing there is a massive thunderstorm that threatens the island, who is going to respond? Who has to deploy resources to save lives and properties? Whose monies would be used for that venture?
I am sure none of the above questions can be answered with Chagouri and his group can it?

You are quite right. Which is why many a posters have been saying that the postulation that the government of Lagos has nothing to do with this is preposterous. One government gave the go ahead, government gave some guarantees to the bank and when completed the Lagos state government has to provide electricity, security and other government presence. All this cost money and this funds could have been better utilized for the good of all if Orile had been bought over and demolished for this mega estate.

Been following this for a while now and just some clarity.

First and foremost, irrespective of its nomenclature 'Eko Atlantic City', the project does not build a city, it's just an island estate.
Proof: The developers say it is 4 square miles. That is less than Orile Iganmu!

Meaning, the government of Lagos State, the city of Lagos and the people of Lagos would have been better served if Orile Iganmu was acquired and new developments built.
However, that would not serve the big boys so they reclaim the land and thus have private beaches.

Yes you can make down payments. Our payment plan is simple and straight forward. In Phase 1, which is expected to be sand filled by the end of this year or beginning of next, is 50% down payment and 50% when you receive your land. In phase 2 and on, it is 25% down payment, 25% at the  1 year and 2 year anniversary, and the last 25% when you receive your land.

They have clearly also stated that they have no say in what the developers build, just that they need to conform to certain zoning.

And by the way, your initial assertion that the place is not residential is totally incorrect. Their adverts and even wiki page did clearly state that it would have residential zones and well as business districts. The leisure parks are a given as it is the beaches that is driving this.

I also noted that one of the selling points of the project is that it would purportedly help to control erosion of the Lagos public beaches!

As much as this project would put us on the map as doing something, it is however doing something in the wrong direction. One of the successes of the SA World Cup, is that they learnt from the failures of the Korea-Japan 2002 edition. Japan did build fantastic stadiums but they were located away from the populace and didn't have a plan for steady utilization, those WC stadiums are losing Japan a steady $25M every year.
This project is the same, doing something good in the wrong direction.
