They were likely in excess of 120kph.

Notice that you have loose gravel on the road which shows it was also slippery. They should have been driving with caution

LMAO, reading through the comments here you can see the level of hypocrisy from the usual online warriors.
Just imagine if this story had been about Buhari or Tinubu, just imagine the level of vitriol and condemnation these brainwashed online warriors will be spewing regardless of whether the story is true or not.

Just read through the excuses they are giving in supporting their Governor. If this had happened in the North or SW that's when they will remember, dictatorship, rule of law, God fatherisim, election rigging, imposing etc. But now, it's to just blame to woman for exposing the sad state of affairs in their land.

#HYPOCRITES
Well not holding brief for Umahi, but fact is unlike the two mentioned, the governor is actually performing and is also extremely popular in the state. IF you've been to Ebonyi, you'll know what I'm talking about.

80m just for one lawmaker?? Multiply it by the number of lawmakers we have across Nigeria, both federal, states and LGAs and over these years..

These guys are sorely bleeding and ripping off this country.
I tell you. And this is just at the state level.

Interesting that the actual salary is just 500k a month, but by the time you add all the allowances, you really see how the politicians are bleeding us dry. And you wonder why 20 yrs into democracy we still manage just 30% for capitial expenditures

Got no respect for this woman but I am sane to recognize greatness when I see one. This woman is one of the very few politicians that were selected by her own people without any rigging or external influence. She’s loved and admired by her people and I respect her for that.

It’s her constitutional right to get paid.
It’s only in Nigeria and other backward countries that you will have such abuse of power without the judiciary checking it. Stand strong
Quite true. She is extremely popular at her constituency and has done quite a lot for her people.

The actions of Umahi is quite unbecoming.

Lalasticlala, other side of the story.

Emotions and sentiments apart;

First, sincerely when I watched the video yesterday I was confused. I didn't see any persona that looked like a DSS officer. I've once had an 'encounter' with DSS officers.
They escorted the corpse of a federal icon from Abuja to our village for burial. They arrived early in the night, witnessed the burial, shot guns in the air and drove off.

It was an intimidating experience. They were so organised and gallant. Their men were heavily built and their guns were sophisticated. No one in that video is similar to the typical DSS officer in my imagination.

Secondly, the word REVOLUTION that Sowore used is enough crime against him. I'm almost certain that if someone tried a tenth of such in the US he would be corpse in less than a month. Or at least be undead in Guantanamo.

Note: I'm opened to objective counter-arguments. If you rationally, objectively and politely debate my points then I'll listen to you. I'm willing to engage in intellectual debates.

But if all you have is insults and curses then expect no response from me.

Thanks for reading.
Neat points. Yes, I will admit I've taken a closer look at the videos, but cant seem to see any DSS in the courtroom, unless, like others have said, they were not fully kitted in their usual gear.

HOWEVER, while I may be tempted to give DSS account the benefit of doubt, the fact is their antecedents tilts heavily against them. The professionalism you painted is no longer the order of the day. Its now more of blatant rascility: the siege on the national assembly, arrest of sitting judges in dead of night, flagrant disobedience of court orders, just to mention a few.

Let us also not forget we're basing our conclusions on the few minutes video clips. Here is direct quote from Falana who witnessed the whole episode:

He said such an aberration had never taken place in Nigeria’s history even under a full blown military rule and vowed to challenge the violation of the court.

He said: “Even under full military dictatorship, you will be allowed to drive out of the court premises and then be arrested on the street but not in the web of the court, it has never happened before.

“The court was in session and was forced to rise. The judge had to rise because they were threatening to shoot. The judge had to withdraw because they were threatening to shoot, and asked lawyers to take a date for their cases.”
Is Falana also part of the drama?

VIPERVENOM:
Sentiments aside. When did DSS operatives start wearing suit? And again from the video it was falana that drove sowore out of court and DSS followed them (even SR confirmed it) meaning he was arrested somewhere else. So DSS are right. He wasn't arrested IN COURT. Emphasis IN COURT
Isn't that because they were PREVENTED FROM DOING SO?

NGpatriot:
I'm 100% sure that order did not come from the president, this is some overzealous DSS officials doing their own thing and they must be sanctioned.

PMB rightfully by nature and policy doesn't like to interfere, but his underlings oversteps because of the president's hands off approach which at the end of the day creates bad publicity and unnecessary distractions that the president doesn't need.

This incident can not go unchallenged or dealt with.
In practice the DSS is supposed to report to the NSA, who then reports to the president. If for the any reason the DSS is acting rouge then we expect swift, decisive action, as was the case when the previous DG was sacked.

But now over 24hours not a single word from FG. Instead what we're seeing are Lauretta Onochie already making empty noise all over the place.

We should condemn what should be condemned, and this episode is the height of all actions. Those images were sickening to watch in a constitutional democracy. It is barbaric. It is shameful.

As Sowore was coming out if the court he noticed the DSS men were waiting OUTSIDE the court to arrest him again. He ran back to the court shouting ..they want to rearrest me...The DSS men followed him back to the court to yake him out of the premises and ordered his arrest. At this time the sitting on his case had ended....As the tussle continued Falana said he would take him to the DSS office to answer questions there. At the DSS office Sowore was detained again. NOTE 1 DSS can arrest anybody anywhere even in church or mosque as long as you dont have immunity. 2. The hearing of the day had completed before the matter came up.3 A criminal can be rearrested even if he is released by a court.... There is a difference between Discharge and Discharge and Acquit... 4No order against his rearest..5 The resistance of arrest by Sowore led to the crisis in court... Even if it is wrong you dont resist arrest....Late Fahwehim was remanded several times in Nigeria He never resisted arrest. In fact he had a remand bag in his house containing all his toiletry and so on which he would use in the remand. Finally in order to avert recurrence of the drama as an activist Sowore should willingly follow DSS each time the agency wants to arrest him...That is the beauty of an activist...An activist should not be running away from arrest or shouting or making noise about it....
Nice attempt at playing devils advocate. But its really not worth it, pls. Almost all of PMB's supporters even here in NL have condemned this vicious, show of rascality. Isnt it instructive that over 24hours not a statement from the DSS or the FG? Instead they sent an easily expendable Lauretta to take the heat on social media. Honestly, if you were not appalled and worried by what occurred yesterday, then I am worried about you.

1. "DSS can arrest anywhere". FALSE. They CANNOT arrest within the court premises, especially when the court is still in session.
2. Well, this is contrary to the other accounts of what happened.
“The court was in session and was forced to rise. The judge had to rise because they were threatening to shoot. The judge had to withdraw because they were threatening to shoot, and asked lawyers to take a date for their cases.”
https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2019/12/07/anger-criticisms-trail-dss-re-arrest-of-sowore/
3. Yes, he can. But due process must be followed, and certainly not in the court premises.
4. No order against his arrest?? Pray, what in Musa's black gate does this mean? You may want to look up what is means to be granted bail.
5. Crises would have been averted had DSS not descend to the level even unbecoming of wild dogs (to paraphrase Soyinka).

[s]Where was Wole Soyinka when Nnamdi Kanu's bail was ignored, where was he when Nnamdi Kanu's family house was being desecrated by the military?

Why is Soyinka even complaining against a government whose emergence he actively worked for?
The chicken has come home to roost and they've begun whipping up empathy.

I refuse to buy in and it is simple.
I won't weep for you when your house is on fire if you didn't weep for me when mine was.

No way,

Sowore should pay the price for inciting a revolution against the government of the day out of animosity for not making the ministerial list.
The APC made it clear that they were not going to run a Government of National Unity, so what is Sowere's grouse?

Is it also a coincidence that his call for revolution came after the ministerial list was released?

We have better things like Allen Onyema and Air Peace to worry about and I find it rather paradoxical that our dear Professor has not made a comment on the ordeals of Allen Onyema.

Soyinka dines with the people he criticizes and laughs to their faces, accepts their awards and shows up for their invitations.
Visits their official residences and takes happy photographs with them. Worse even, he allows his children to serve under them.

Aside not being as literally sound, this two-faced nature is one of the reasons he will never be half the man Chinua Achebe was.

Chinua Achebe made his stand on issues unequivocally clear without any hues of grey, he turned down National awards based on personal principles, he never fraternized with people he believed made the country worse off and most importantly, he spoke out irrespective of whose ox it was that was being gored.

Wole Soyinka may have the unmerited award, but Achebe is the laurel itself.

How can the same people who said they couldn't trust Nigeria in the hands of Atiku "the looter" and "Made in China" Obi now complain that Nigeria is finished under their Mr. Intergrity and his Professor of Law vice?

No way.
We must get to our Next Level, nobody is jumping off this ship.[/s]

Buhari is seriously embarrassing those of us that supported him with the way he’s handling Sowore’s matter. The daylight abduction of Sowore inside the courtroom today is an act of tyranny and I join all Nigerians to condemn the barbaric act. There is no justification whatsoever for the evil act that was perpetrated by DSS today.

Buhari should immediately order the release of Sowore and apologize to Nigerians for desecrating the temple of justice. The next level should be of economic prosperity and not of oppression and barbarism.
Exactly what I said in the previous thread. My support for him waned over the years, but this latest show of shame is below the belt. It's despicable. It's barbaric. It's shameful.

Many people who married early too have problems with their marriage. The issue with marriages is something deeper than your analysis . It is about people's understanding of what marriage is. When you don't understand what you are going into, you lack the capacity to know what to do to stay in it. Proper definition of marriage, its purpose, its suitability or non-suitability for us helps us look for appropriate person that compliments ourselves. Until people stop dancing to social pressure and go into marriages on basis on strong understanding and conviction of what the institution of marriage is with inherent challenges, marriages will continue to have problem. Age, rather than being an impediment can help a man bring maturity into his marriage. From my own understanding, marriage is not for kids...
