Vickyydera:In some cultures, a Queen does not smile anyhow like person wey dem dey finger im womanliness. ![]() It's about dignity and decorum. |
Cway86:Ondo, Ebonyi, Bayelsa & Plateau may already have one or even or two sitting ambassadors that won't be moved or replaced. Remember we have far more than 50 embassies and high commissions abroad. But really your duty post matters more. Like Gambia cannot be compared to Germany. ![]() |
Codes151:My dear, I have tried educating many tribal supremacists here for many years now. The same argument broke out earlier this year & late last year after very unguarded utterances by Alake of Abeokuta & Olu of Warri about Ooni of Ife being senior to Oba of Benin. Read the thread here: https://www.nairaland.com/search?q=oranmiyan+did+not+set+foot+in+benin&search=Search To begin with, Olu of Warri cannot know because the first Olu of Warri was the son of Oba Olua of Benin (reigned 1473-1480AD). Any connection of Olu of Warri to Ododuwa is through Benin, so it is Benin who will tell him who his ancestors are. Just like Ashipa the first Eleko (now called Oba) of Lagos was a Benin Prince. I'm happy to see young people like you showing interest in your illustrious history. Because if you don't, other people will try to twist it and write in their favour. Ododuwa (Izoduwa) was Prince Ekaladerhan of Benin. He was exiled and made his way to Ife. When he was eventually made ruler of Ife, he said Izoduwa, Ima ghi d'oduwa meaning " I did not miss my destiny". But Ogiso Owodo, his father died in Benin with no heir. Eventually Benin chiefs learnt that Ekaladerhan was in fact now ruler of Ife. They went to bring him back but he refused. Maybe he was now old or the sad memory of banishment was still fresh or some other reason. But he later sent his son Oranmiyan to Benin. Therefore, Benin is the father of Ododuwa and all Obas in Yorubaland that descended from Ododuwa. Don't let anyone use modern politics of large population to deceive you. Rome was just a city with a fairly small population, but went on to dominate the world through Roman Empire that spanned much of Europe, Asia & North Africa. So was Benin in the South-Eastern part of West Africa from 1440 to 1897 AD. |
Codes151:My dear, very funny how little history people know. Bight of Benin was never called Slave Coast, for example. Benin today has no freed slave diaspora because the Oba did everything to protects Benins (not Binis as often wrongly written) from slavery. Even sending royal spies to slave holding cells at Ughoton/Gwatto to codedly check for any Edo speakers stolen by slave robbers and raiders. Often many people from former vassal lands accuse Benin of selling them as slaves, while never selling Benin people. Complete nonsense. Benin spent a lot of expense on mercenary soldiers to complement Benin/other Edoid tribes soldiers in imperial wars. Benin had a disadvantage of low population so it badly needed colonies/vassal lands to help provide more soldiers. So selling slaves in vassal lands was not in Benin's interest. In fact, the elites of vassal chiefdoms/lands/kingdoms lobbied to let slave trade in their own lands to continue. To avoid too much rebellion from colonies, Oba had to reluctantly agree but passed a decree that "No Benin person shall be sold as a slave, and no Benin person shall buy or sell a slave". Effectively forbidding core Benin from slave trade. This was about 200 years before Britain abolished slavery in 1807. This decree that was made imperative because the elites of other tribes (within the empire) wanted to continue slave trade is used to claim that Benin sold other tribes as slaves. A European slave trader travelled from Benin to Ughoton. According to his diary, on the way, he saw about 100 slaves for sale. On asking, he found out that no slave or trader was a Benin person. A record of slave origins (where they were bought from) as recorded by European slave traders, was on a thread here some years back. It confirmed that. Benin was missing from origin/trade areas of slaves. Of course one cannot say that no Benin person ever sold a slave. Just like narcotics are banned by every government, but some people still illegally sell. But if caught, serious punishment. |
igwegeorgiano:Learn what? He has already been an ambassador to many countries. He's in his 60s despite looking younger. Seen it all. Palace chiefs sent from Oba of Benin Palace to anywhere are accorded deserved reception. Oba doesn't need to go. By the way an ancient Edo parable goes that: someone satisfied with his home has no need perambulating about. |
Ajusshi:The three noble professions you mean. But remember that a doctor is first and foremost a teacher. Doctor even literally means teacher. So teaching is a noble profession. ![]() |

Gkemz: Cheating has no age limit. She's still single, not even engaged. What is the difference between cheating and someone proposed to her, while still dating OP? How often do people propose to someone they are not dating?? Lots of girls multiple-date right up to a week before wedding day these day. Scoping till last minute. These days, that girl or lady you both have planned to marry is very likely sneaking out to see other guys, weighing her options till wedding day. Many girls have even boldly told me that nothing is wrong with it till marriage. Trouble is not all can give it up after marriage. I have seen many of it. The likelihood is OP is not economically buoyant/generous enough in her view. Despite spending 2m so far. Op might even be her lowest paymaster among several magas she has. OP knows the truth already but he's still scared of confirming the reality. |
skarlett:Especially if you don't look as if you have made it. Like proudly flexing your Legedes Benz with sufferhead applicant shoes and blurting out some cheesy pickup line. ![]() |
And Buhari introduced this generation of political military thieves into government. It cost us a lot of goodwill and we surrendered our leadership position in Africa. Abacha's loot are still being recovered 18 years on. |
Pavore9:I know at least a dozen guys who as little boys were defiled by "auntie". Usually a friendly female neighbour, house help or some other female trusted to be with the kid. I was shocked first time we discussing in a group and so many guys said the experienced such, 20, 25 or so years ago. Some were just 5, some 7 years old boys then. |
Last time I checked, polygamy or being a baby mama is not illegal under FG laws. I have not come across any ad by Funke seeking relationship counselling. Olofofo everywhere you look. |
ireneony:You sure? You mean say na Oluwole call? My dear, how many calls be original again these days? |
ireneony:Haba! Ireneony, you too fyn to lambast your fellow babe like this na. Baba God just picked her call. Happy for her dear. ![]() |
To even begin, FG should dust up Confab Report and begin implementing it with immediate alacrity. Who will trust an FG navigated by two-faced chameleons? |
ShowYourCertificate:Let him work for the crumbs they throw at him. Under GEJ Apart from 9ja becoming Africa's biggest economy, 16 new universities, available fuel, decent electricity in many places, better roads, better airports, a boom in agriculture, automobile companies bringing assembly plants to 9ja and more, his best effort was trying to restructure the fake federal system 9ja has. Through Confab. Because the positive impact could last centuries. Now the Confab report will be consigned to the bin by the North. After unleashing Boko on GEJ's regime, the same people went on to blame him for insecurity. |
lorenzo9096:If Falana praised Buhari's medical tourism but did not ask why somebody claiming integrity could not equip any ENT department in 9ja adequately or even the billions budget Aso Rock clinic, after a year in office, then he's a just two-faced coward like most others. |
very poor 9ja journalism. Not marathon sex, na Olympic sex. |
ForeverNew:They must have trailed the car from his house, knowing the cars he uses. And perhaps thought he was in the car as it emerged from the compound. Perhaps Mrs Dokpesi disappeared into the hospital before they got close enough. Or were waiting for a man fitting her hubby's stature to emerge from the car but he never did. Maybe they now approached hoping to gun him down inside the car but was not there either. Maybe in frustration they wanted to kill the wife they had probably seen earlier in the car while trailing it. The next best thing to hurt him would be killing the wife. Dokpesi's African protection might be very potent to have confused the assassins, not to know which car he was definitely in or made him stay at home that moment. During OBJ's tenure, political assassinations were two for one kobo. Funsho Williams, Bola Ige and more. OBJ is adviser of this govt, just a coincidence? ![]() |
Well, back in the day, two Indian students rented my aunt's flat near the university in 9ja. We now go to India with our money and pay to get attacked. See how 9ja has fallen badly. ![]() |
emmasege:Oh, his father is still alive?? I'm shocked. Can someone be an Oba in Africa when his dad is still alive? Wow! I never knew that. If any monarch should offer me a chieftaincy title today, I'd decline and ask it to be given to my dad, as additional title. I can only succeed his titles (if applicable) when he has gone to relax. Not until then. ![]() |
bloodyBLOGGER:You say respect the kings and you say that about other Kings? Is that not contradictory. Most of those Kings you said sit at home were once ambassadors, army/police chief, university prof, permanent sec who had led fulfilling lives, been to almost all important places on earth, know lots of people & can call who's who on phone if they want. Monarchy is a dignified position & not be seen to cosy up too much to politicians (neutrality) even as our constitution expects. I doubt Fashola would refuse to go see the Ooni in his hotel or wherever he's putting up in Abj. Kings of the calibre of Oba of Benin, Ooni, Awujale, Aalafin, Alake can send palace chiefs to any politician & they would be received as though the King went by himself. Ooni's position is too important to be seen everywhere like that. |

DeCleff:I tire o. What do they think about 70% of people in rural areas in SS do? Sit at home and sleep all day? Edo & Delta are first & second in plantain production in 9ja. Ondo third. Yam, cocoa, cocoyam, cassava, oil palm, timber and vegetable (okro, pumpkin leaves, garden eggs, tomatoes, green leaves, pepper, etc) are normal farm produce there. I don't know where they got the idea that SS has no food. Some people recently just focus on cassava & plantain because they are easier to maintain many acres of it, make more money compared to yam that requires more tending & relatively cheap to buy from the North. Just commercial calculations. ![]() |
Nagasaki7:Leave the mumu. Good. Fuel your cars with yam powder. ![]() Oil will conveniently pay for food import from Cameroon & Ghana & American rice. Canned tomato will replace Ebola tomato. Oil money will be used to fund greenhouses for vegetables/legumes. Fruits already abound in SS. SS produce yam, cassava, cocoyam & lots of plantain. Plantain/amala is even healthier than calorie-loaded yam sef. Let's see how much LNG & petrol/diesel your N250 yam tubers will buy you. They should hurry up and go their own way. If he doesn't push for separation, he must be a gargantuan FOOL. ![]() |
Ginaz:Correction: Most girls. ![]() Hardly any girl likes suwegbe levels in this discipline. The more churchy the babe, the rougher they dig it. Says Area Fada. ![]() |

Xuccessly:May God let us live long like Methuselah to witness the day European/North American prime ministers/presidents will be coming to Nigeria to visit ENT surgeons. ![]() Amen! Ise! Ase! Ameen! |
Poor souls, RIP. The way death is on the prowl is shocking. Obviously, no body came to their aid, not even CPR. Ambulance services is still like aliens or martians in many parts of 9ja. ![]() |
SirWere:And a guy she met only minutes earlier. Chai, these are the type that are supposed to innovate, become entrepreneurs and leaders of tomorrow. Now we can see why Buhari has a difficult job. ![]() |
Rip dude. |
