Any index that doesn't use average financial transaction of bvn linked account to access poverty is fake.

'Prevalence of poverty' is misleading as an individual may have ten million and live on 2000 daily while someone who has 500000 may live on 10000 daily.

similarity is different from common ancestry. Yes,there is no similarity BTW Igbo and Yoruba except for some known words which sound similar which is quite normal for ethnic groups who are nearly contiguous.

Exactly. I think the last part was what angered the Nigerian government. And when the Ameicans came calling, the Nigerian government supported them against the Gaddafi.

Who is now feeling the heat of our stupidity? The arms the Americans infiltrated into Libya has now found it's way into the country. Boko Haram and Herdmen get their weapons from Libyan fighters.
British media would then lash out at him and demonize him. They always see Nigeria as their establishment and anybody that calls for the split of the dysfunctional union they take things personal against him. Remember it was the Britain that Pushed Obama into the Libyan conflict. It was also the case during the Biafran war. They did everything possible to make the war an ojukwu issue instead of the historical incompatibility arising from the amalgamation which lead to pogrom. salient submissions made by the ahiara declaration were tossed.

Britain never wanted the world to see they were wrong. After all, who were the Igbos to challenge their colonial policies?

Today, it's clear to the world that Nigeria is a failed state. Fulani's jihadi mission is unraveled. Ojukwu was right and they were wrong. Their diplomatic grip on the rest of the global community is loosening and soon their narrative that Nigeria's break up will lead to sub regional instability will be questioned by all and sundry.

Ghadaffi called for Nigeria to split between north and south for religious reasons but after a week he called for a split into several countries after acknowledging that sharp ethnic differences was a problem too.

Ghadafi advised that Nigeria should be divided along religious lines. This would have created a Northern and Southern Nigeria. Having 2 presidents.

This would have brought the following advantages to the south.

1) Election of presidential candidates would have been based on education, experience and competence.

2) majority of voters would be educated and exposed people

3) resources spent tackling terrorism and insurgency over the years would have been channelled towards development.

4) less farmers herders clash and bloodshed.

5) easier to manage population of educated and skilled people. Creating more jobs.

Today the north that is the least educated is the most qualified for employment in government agencies.

The north groomed terrorism and sucked our nations resources through the channel.

Coronavirus have come and it also has become a channel to divert funds to the north.

But i wish the problem was just the north using coronavirus to suck our resources. That would have been bearable .

My greatest fear is how the north will serve as an incubator for coronavirus and distribute it all over the country.

That is when the south will regret not making the move.
He later amended his proposal saying the country be split into several units like Czechoslovakia because of ethnic differences. Take note.

if innosson thought like this, he would never start making cars. If dangote thought like this, he would never start making cement.

If Glo thought like this, MTN would still be the only network in Nigeria.

I dare say that once you start manufacturing, you will learn loopholes to keep your company competitive.

I like reading about Igbo industrialists....read about emzor pharmaceutical and orange drugs and juhel....their stories are online
This is pure wishful thinking. What is the price of an average innoson saloon car? compare it with the price of an imported Toyota saloon car talk more of the price in their home country. No power, no steal complex etc how does he even grow to produce engine itself? don't you know there are some components you can't manufacture with a generating set and he has to import them, skyrocketing his production cost. Despite his remarkable improvement, If there is no infrastructure his vehicle prices won't come down and if it remains that way, his growth is doubtful. It's not enough to establish business if the environment is not sustainable. Relocate IVM to south Africa and see wonders.

How is glo doing? As far as I'm concerned it is dead. politicians' loots is what sustaining it.

Bring Biafra, fix power, fix electoral system and tackle corruption. Less loot flying around means that hardwork, creativity are the only ways to be wealthy and achieve success. when politics become less lucrative, criminals are discouraged from it and genuine people are encouraged to pilot the system. When majority see business and production as the means to wealth, there will be massive, genuine and more effective demand for better business environment. No more politics of Fulani marginalisation or Yoruba jealousy or divided loyalty from our politicians.

You raised very good concern. In fact, in a country like Nigeria, the bolded can happen now. It's sad situation.

But despite that, we still need to start transitioning to manufacturing of common goods locally.
yea, we are doing that already. But at what cost? most of our manufactures generate power by themselves, suffer unfair competition from govt looter who start businesses, pay exorbitant amount of money as taxes. Some of them even source for raw materials oversees and spend more to import them through lagos with the foreign exchange hurdles.

Now the cost of production is higher and product price is also higher. consumers don't care and will buy the cheaper foreign good produced under a favourable environment, except the government shuts down such importations. manufacturing in nigeria is not easy. It is easy to make certain demands but politics of development does not favour Igbo manufacturers.

op do you think Igbo's will be able to challenge the Chinese without having an independent state? You just stated that Chinese have been able to do achieve this feat because of their strong home manufacturing sector. Do you think you can develop manufacturing without critical infrastructure like power, seaports etc

The Chinese you speak of had to go communist and shut down their economy against imports just to industrialize. As stands China can even influence your presdo to target Igbo businesses talk more of challenging them.

The case of Lagos is complex and you know it. Even meteorologists when they forecast weathers for cities in Nigeria, they say for example Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Ibadan and Lagos. This you know. Besides the land mass of Lagos is the least in Nigeria after Anambra I guess. you'd have to strain your eyes to see its shape properly. Hence when talking about Lagos, You just generalise. Besides all parts of Lagos are somewhat developed so kilode? Remember a place needs a good amount of land mass to qualify as a city too. Lagos is both a state and a city
you guess? you just created a thread based on guess.

It's all about PRIDE. Have you ever seen any American President speaking French with a French President even if he happens to visit France?!!!

It's all about PRIDE. The English have PRIDE in their language. You have to learn theirs. They don't care about yours. You have to speak their own language not the other way round.

An average Hausa man values his language. Doesn't take pride in speaking another man's language.

Most other tribes are very much ashamed of speaking their language.

And to this Fact is the reason why the Hausa BBC is a fore runner in Africa.
NO MATTER THE QUEENS ENGLISH A HAUSA MAN CAN SPEAK FLUENTLY, EVEN IF HE IS A PROFESSOR. HE WILL SPEAK HAUSA WHEN IN THE MIDST OF HIS HAUSA BROTHERS. It's not so with mostly other tribes they prefer English because of their INFERIORITY COMPLEX.
smh... I thought Igbos are the "proud and domineering" ones. I never knew you have pride.

To your post, I think it's very uncharitable for a stranger to suffer so much indignation on the account of not being able to speak your local language. You can express your pride by clearing the almajiris off the street. You can express your pride by getting married when you are mature and have a legitimate source of income. You should express your pride by having the number of children you can properly take care of. pls express pride by ridding your region of book haram, Iswap, Isis, bandits etc. Why can't you express your pride by ridding your region of such infamy as being the poorest people in the entire world. Also express pride by coming out of the bottom of every academic performance index in the country, not by being nasty to strangers. It's called xenophobia!
Having pride in ONLY your local language makes you handicapped in your role as a citizen of a multicultural country, talk more of giving you the needed sophisticated to face the challenges of the modern world. Even the Chinese have realized this.

You are being deceived that others are ashamed to speak language. well if you attain the heights of southerners in the corporate and academic world and still speak your language like they speak theirs, then you can express your pride.
For now, the core north is one massive, poverty ravaged, crisis ridden, illiterate and vulnerable region whose deficiencies are being made up for by the scam called one Nigeria.

Sinach has over 100 million views on one song alone.
The first African gospel artist to sing at Lakewood.
The most recognizable of them all.

Ada Ehi comes next, pulling behind her very fast on global star power.

Those two have tours in Europe and America lined up.

Mercy chinwo and tope alabi are trying.
But I would classify them among local artists for the local Market.
you won't even compare mercy Chinwo with alabi who is only known in one part of Nigeria.

We don’t all have to be blindly loyal and as myopic as the typical Yoruba person is when it comes to acknowledging tribal similarities.

Where’s the unassailable evidence that akara and moi-moi are either Igbo or Yoruba? There aren’t any. That’s why it’s up for debate whether you choose to be nothing other than fervently patriotic or not.
so if there isn't evidence it means they are shared Igbo's and Yoruba's ONLY. Why don't you also acknowledge the "tribal" similarity among Nigerians since every Nigerian is familiar with these food instead of your obsession with Igbo.

You doubting whether I’m igbo or not doesn’t make a difference to me. Especially not when the origins of these foods are widely contested across the board. I’m just not as biased and fervently patriotic as some Igbos are.
Yea. however "widely contested" they are doesn't take away their origin. After all you can't take away people's right to lay claim to anything they admire, even when they know the true origin.

Thanks for admitting you're not as patriotic as an Igbo should be. That ends it.
Culture › Re: What Ethnic Group In Nigeria Ultimately Owns These Shared Foods? by Armaggedon: 1:01pm On Apr 15, 2020

There’s quite a few foods which more than one tribe eats as more or less indigenous food (Igbo and Yoruba shared foods in particular) but who’s willing to bet the ultimate origin of the following?

Jollof rice
Moi-moi (mai-mai, moin-moin)
Egusi soup
Akara

Puff-puff
Chin-chin
Nigerian buns
Fried rice
Jollof rice is not of Nigerian origin. It is also doubtful whether the delicacy moi moi his Nigerian origin. But the name moyin moyin is Yoruba just the way some Igbo's call it elele.

Egusi soup is Igbo not Yoruba or any other origin for that matter. Its originally pronounced egwusi but egusi is the anglicized version of the name. Ironically while some Yoruba people reject the foreign egusi name some claim the name and the delicacy, even attempting to yorubanize the name to elegunsi.

Akara name is Igbo but I doubt the origin of the delicacy. Beans cake is known world over.

puff puff, chin chin fried rice etc are foreign delicacies. I doubt you are Igbo and wonder whether you want to know the origins of the delicacies or want to make two people one with a shared history myth.

I don’t know which side you’re from but I think you need to let go of this superiority attitude and learn that Igbo and Yoruba share foods and certain other cultural marks because we have the same ancestral root and the former have been influenced by Bini and Igala in certain parts of igboland.
Learn when to say "I" instead of "we"

No one gave you the mandate to make statements on behalf of Igbos.
Politics › Re: What Does The S/west Produce That Compares With The North? by Armaggedon:
I guess the thread compares Yoruba with Hausa so I'm surprised seeing some Yorubas mentioning Igbo.

some said Yoruba's dominate among artisans, Taylors etc.

For the records Igbo's have taken over almost all the sectors. Yoruba's only dominate sectors of the economy where Igbo's have no interest or where there is questionable govt backing against Igbo interest. That is why you hardly see a viable sector open to competition that is dominated by Yoruba's. If they have richer and more professional artisans why don't they have their own indigenous industrial and technological Hubs like Aba and Nnewi?

Even the banking sector has been taken over. They're crying of Igbo dominance while also claiming dominance.

Avoid these newspaper, they peddle fake news alot.

Newspaper always peddling fake news include

Punch newspaper
Nation's newspaper
Tribune newspaper
Dailytrust
Sahara reporters ( Though gives sound info sometimes)
TVC

Legit and sound newspapers
Punch - can be neutral but susceptible to brown envelope and govt manipulation.

The nations- tinubus paper, yoruba propaganda outfit, complete fake news peddler, and 80% negative coverage of igboland. Anytime you see a piece of bad news in a remote part of Igboland, an obvious attempt to run down an igbo business or an establishment, or a petty attempt to defend yoruba interest through a veiled tribal fight, check the source it's usually the nations.

Tribune- another yoruba paper less.

Dailytrust- Hausa newspaper.

Saharareporters- activist newspaper, opposition leaning and also highly susceptible to govt and brown envelope manipulation.

TVC- tinubus outfit and anti igbo coverage(who watched their documentary on Inoma?)
