Ratello:
Even before you know my political leaning you have already judged me, my condemnation of this bogus Chinese loan is premised on the current economic woes we are currently....you can borrow yourself to financial emancipation and this is what Fayose stood for, my post did not indicate anything Western assistance so I wondered where that one popped out from? undecided be calm next time. Good afternoon.
Am I right that we got a loan from IMF recently, where was Fayose then? Your conclusion that Fayose is saying something that makes him more credible than Buhari is what I`m not happy with. I can assure you that I`m calmer than you. No disrespect.

Ratello:
Believe that Buhari knows what he is doing at your own peril sometimes I laugh at naive-mindef ones here who think governance is like ABC. Trust me, Nigeria has no business borrowing that loan in the first place especially when a President who still relies on his analogue way of reasoning in a digital age. This loan will end up being Nigeria undoings in the scheme of things. Just follow the analysis of Fayose meditatively you will understand the complexities embedded in loans, grants, favours from developed nations to developing ones.......may God help Nigeria from this one chance government.
And those your embedded complexities wouldn`t have been there if world bank had given us that loan? A loan from the world bank ties you to all the imperialist West while a bilateral loan ties you to one country. That is one single advantage you musn`t ignore. Have you ever heard of counter-trade before? Yea, another evidence that Buhari doesn`t know what he is doing. The difference between people like you and Buhari is that you enjoy being slaves to the West while Buhari and Buharists don`t.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan Carrying Femi Fani-kayode's Son by ATERI(m): 1:53pm On Apr 16, 2016
When it mattered most, Jonathan put his motherland first...by relniquishing power. One of the things Ibrahim Babangida claimed prevented him from respecting the results of the most credible general election Nigeria ever conducted was that his junior in the military threatened to kill him if he ever handed over power to the winner of that election, notwithstanding the fact that handing over to the winner was what Nigerians wanted and it was the right thing to do. The general election that removed Jonathan from office was far from being flawless, definitely not as free and fair as the elections Babangida and his fellow criminals decided to rubbish, but still Jonathan respected its outcome and did the right thing. Every Nigerian should wish Jonathan and his family well regardless of his imperfections while in office.

One of my weaknesses is to think irrationally, so ignore me if I`m being irrational here. A couple of days ago, Kanu and Fashanu were with FFK now it is the former President Jonathan calling. We all know that Buhari`s trip to China and the shift it represents is not going to be taken lying low by the West especially America. Therefore, could there be more to these visits to FFK than meet the eye? Could it be the beginning of mobilzsing Nigerians against Buhari at the instigation of America? Let me explain something.

FFK is one of the very few political leaders in Nigeria today I like to call a complete package. During the Jonathan period, as America was holding Jonathan to ransom, frustrating his fight against Boko Haram; neither Jonathan, law-makers or state governors was bold, brillant and patriotic enough to go on television and condemn America, but FFK did. Well, FFK has numerous enemies that hate him with passion for different reasons. For me, what he did then has made him my type of politician and leader. FFK`s criticism forced America`s ambassador to Nigeria to go on television and committed suicide, the rest is history. In other words, US knows that FFK matters in Nigeria and knows he is fearless. It`s people like him they would like to recruit for their evil agenda, but would FFK fall for it? Well, the people visiting him recently are all pro-American, let me put it that way. What experience has shown is that FFK is not good at saying NO-that remains his most fundamental weakness

What all of them need to understand is that, Buhari is not doing anything for Buhari`s sake; 90% of what he is doing is in the interest of this country, so anyone that allows the western megalomaniacs to use him/her would be judged by posterity. I have always believed that Buhari needs to introduce minimum welfare system in Nigeria so as to let the poorest among us know that he cares. He is now a democrat that would need to renew his mandate soon, he should bear it in mind that he needs the poor on his side if he wants to defeat the terrorists in America and their naive local collaborators. Those of us that support him in principle would be too few to guarantee his success at the polls should what I foresee here be real.
PoliticsRe: Governor Fayose's Letter To China: Should He Be Charged For Treason? by ATERI(m): 4:42pm On Apr 15, 2016
Some people are funny! For the avoidance of doubt, in a federal system of government, no units of that federation can go abroad to undermine the President of the federation. You can go to advance your state`s agenda but you don`t criticize the federal government abroad. Even opposition leaders that venture abroad try to respect that democratic tradition. Today, Hong Kong and Taiwan are seen as autonomous states of China, but can they go around the world to criticzse China? ]Fayose making representation to China in opposition to the federal government is the type of political mannerism you will expect from a village rascal

Now those of you that have allowed parochial sentiments to cloud your judgement need to ask yourselves what a dictator would have done in response to Fayose`s kindergarten move. Can Taiwan or a regional leader in China write that type of letter to a foreign government and not made to sweat afterwards? Buhari has been very presidential all through this, which I find very commendable.

He has two characteristics around which all other things revolve: he never criticizes the West and thinks that every problem in Nigeria would be solved by privatization. What specifically would he do if he were to be a minister in this government today? A lot of general statements without any specifics. He is another Fashola that, thankfully, we don`t have to worry about in government.

America does this because our fightbackabiility is zero. Of all the countries in this world, America is one of the few that should not be throwing muds. Well, since they are talking about human right abuses, I will use this opportunity to remind American government that 102 UNARMED blacks were killed by the police in America in 2015. Only the cold-blooded murder of Matthew Ajibade resulted in a conviction. The policeman`s jail sentence was one year for killing a fellow human being.
The most important reason why we are being bombarded with these negatives is because Buhari is moving closer to other world powers like China abandoning western terrorists led by America and London. May America continue to live on Chinese credit.Amen

You might not agree with their politics and ideology but that does not remove the fact that they are a very popular newspaper and widely circulated.

From available statistics, they are the sixth most widely circulated in the UK- selling 300,000 copies more than the Guardian. It is worth noting that most of the papers that are more circulated are cheap newspapers and the rest like the Metro and Evening Standard are free.

In terms of the major traditional newspapers (non-tabloid), The telegraph is the most circulated in the UK.

How did you arrive at the Times being the most authoritative? Can you kindly refer me to the research carried out to arrive at that conclusion or is this just your own perception?
Have you lived in the UK before or still living in the UK?

stephenduru:
Members of the #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) group, were on Thursday, prevented from gaining access into the presidential villa, Abuja.

In commemoration of the two year anniversary of the abducted Chibok girls, the protesters embarked on a march to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari but they were cut short by police officers on the road leading to the villa.

Speaking on the incident, leader of the BBOG group, Obiageli Ezekwesili described the action of the police as a reminder of the military era.

Ezekwesili said the presidency had been informed of the procession of the group to the villa gate, where they were scheduled to deliver a message to the government.

While expressing shock at the development, she maintained that the BBOG would deliver its message on the road in spite of the barricade.

This is absolutely false!

The Daily Telegraph is a well respected newspaper in the UK. It is a conservative medium and has a very large readership and influence in the UK.

The Mayor of London- Boris Johnson who is predicted to be the next Prime Minister of the UK is a columnist for the paper.

@ topic

What happened is a case of an unprofessional journalist who must have been bombarded with false information and he didnt bother to cross check its veracity before publishing.

Nigerians should be aware that there is an ongoing media and propaganda guerrilla war being carried out against this government. They are feeding news outlets with lies round the clock.

You mentioned the Trent. Go and check their top management, it consists of Professors and Academicians based in the US, most of whom are of Igbo descent. They are smart people who will use scientific methods to weaken and ultimately destroy the public perception of this government.

I hope the Nigerian government is aware of all this.
The Daily Telegraph is well respected by whom? How can you describe an evil right-wing newspaper that never sees anything good in Nigeria and Nigerians as a well respected newspaper? The Sun Newspaper is the most popular newspaper in the UK and The Times is the most authoritative, so what criteria are you using?

Spot on analysis,
Let the market determine the exchange rate,
Pegging the exchange rate at 190 naira while the black market rate is at 320, will only encourage the same corruption he claims to be fighting.
If China had allowed the market to determine the exchange rate, China wouldn`t have got to where it`s today. China is today the workshop of the world producing virtually everything, therefore it is the type of country that should devalue so that her numerous exports would be cheaper to buy, but Chinese leaders could see what the intentions of Western terrorists are. Nigeria that doesn`t produce anything and have nothing to export shouldn`t destroy her currency-just because one dying entity in America says so. Why is it that you can`t see through the fraud called market forces?

Coming from someone who probably is clamouring for the open trial of dasuki and dilector.
If the Nigerian state is convinced that Dasuki has done something illegal, then they should present the evidence in a court of law. Where is the similarity between that and publishing people`s names in a newspaper before any case has been brought against those individuals? What happens to innocent until proven guilty? Remember what happened when names of Nigerians that supposedly owed banks were published last time around? Let`s treat others how we want to be treated; no-one has the right to publish your name for wrong-doing based on rumours and innuendos.

DeanSim:
I weep wholeheartedly for this country which we don't seems to cherish dearly. Our number 1 enemy is disunity. It might seems stupid or negative but let's be realistic. Our hearts are not one sincerely.

Another problem is the poverty stricken mentality among majority of us. It saddens me that we are so immune to darkness, poor pipe borne water, lack of shelter, low-quality education and bad infrastructures.

I guess, we lack metrics for development. We don't objectively have a platform where we can analyze phenomena whether there is progression or otherwise. Do we have data or have the culture of collecting and maintaining one.

That Occupy Nigeria will forever be memorable to me. Some fellow youth died for that cause and what happen? What's the result? It doesn't worth it.

Since I was born, almost every homes have been providing their own stable facilities to survive. It is getting worse and becoming a culture.
I have concluded that, I will contribute only my part with wisdom to further make this country a better place for us to live and take strategy careful steps to influence the government where possible and promote good governance.
Our political system and governance is below average.
The point I was making in my first piece is worthy of repetion: nothing foreign is going to bring about change in Nigeria, because we have tried it all. Occupy started in America as a way of drawing attention to the unjust world order that puts the control of the world and its resources in the hands of 1%. For anything to work in Nigeria, it must be unique and special. It musn`t have been used elsewhere, so as to catch everyone by surprise.

. Was that not the exact way you S.Easterners / S.Southerners felt when Jonathan was attacked or you are one of those that argued superiority of the souterners "Igbo" over the almajiri northerner simply because one as an education ?

The reason why a revolution will not happen in Nigeria is pretty basic, the problem of the regions is different from each other so the masses are not oppressed in a uniform manner that can lead to a nationwide uproar. The fuel you buy 150 in the south is sold 200 in the north without complain, what you spend of food in the north is negligible compared to what you invest on it in the south. Militant trouble only the SS, Boko haram only the NE, Fulani marauders NC while the East n West suffers from lack of employment oppotunities something other regions consider Eldorado.

.

The June scenario is a very strong case to buttress my argument above. Did you notice even with the nationwide wild appeal n voting of MKO from all regions only the SW was left to fight for the mandate without a single protest from any state outside the region ?

It is also the reason why few Nigerian are sympathetic to the Biafran agitation today but maybe if these Fulani maraders are able to spread their tentacle of the calamity far enough have they been steadily progressing from the NC to the East n West maybe nigerians will finally have a unifying cause that night lead to a revolution.
Very well said! One of the things that can bring people together, surprisingly quickly, is an empty stomach. Hunger never uses a foreign language that people would find difficult to understand. In today`s world, a hungry and angry graduate in Kaduna is now in touch with the one in Osogbo who went to the same school with the one in Enugu; this can nullify some of the variables we often focus on revolution. Once you have no food, no job and not sure of a roof over your head tomorrow, you have nothing to lose.

PoliticsRe: What Will Ever Make Nigerians Protest by ATERI(m): 12:48am On Apr 08, 2016
What those that are relatively older have come to understand is that right is not the same thing as might. I mentioned it before that the agitation that followed June 12 annulment ought to have brought about change, but didn`t. There is nothing in life that can`t reach a point of diminishing returns, and I believe that peaceful agitation in Nigeria has reached that point. Gideon Orka did a mini-Ojukwu and failed. So there is nothing that have been bringing change elsewhere that haven`t failed in Nigeria. What that means is that, people need to go back to the drawing table. Nigeria is unique therefore only something special would bring everlasting change to our country. The heroes of our country were those nameless young activists that had died at the barricade, a lot of them died during the Babangida and Abacha era. The struggle continues.
PoliticsRe: Panama Papers Leaks: Nigerians 'praying' As The World Is Outraged by ATERI(m): 4:35pm On Apr 07, 2016
It`s the job of Nigerian activists to mobilize at times like this, but which activists do not have an empty stomach right now? Poverty makes many things impossible, so it`s difficult to be blaming Nigerians for not taking to the streets. I have said it before and I would say it again that, Nigeria is going to be a project for a special few sooner or later. Where we are today dates back to June 12 palaver, so Nigerians are tired and deflated.

Another thing is that Nigeria is huge. Iceland has a population of over 300,000 so it is very easy to make things happen in an environment like that. Also important to point out that London has more names on that list more than any other countries in the world yet they are not taking to the streets yet.

uche77zero:
I did a review of the major landmark supreme court cases of the United State Of America from 1803 to 2015. I noticed that most cases that led to the supreme court were issues that concerned the bettermnet of the ordinary man,
1. 1824, Gibbons v. Ogden defined broadly Congress's right to regulate commerce.
2. 1857. Dred Scott v. Sandford was a highly controversial case that intensified the national debate over slavery.
3. 1954, Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka invalidated racial segregation in schools and led to the unraveling of de jure segregation in all areas of public life.
4. 1963, Gideon v. Wainwright guaranteed a defendant's right to legal counsel.
5. 1973, Roe v. Wade legalized abortion and is at the center of the current controversy between “pro-life” and “pro-choice” advocates.
6. 1978, Regents of the University of California v. Bakke imposed limitations on affirmative action to ensure that providing greater opportunities for minorities
7. 2003, Grutter v. Bollinger upheld the University of Michigan Law School's consideration of race and ethnicity in admissions.
8. My favourite 2012, in National Federation of Independent Business v. Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, one of the most anticipated rulings in recent history, the Supreme Court upheld most of President Barack Obama's healthcare law—the signature legislation
of his first term, including the individual mandate, which requires that most Americans buy health insurance or pay a fee.
The only major supreme case that was of a personal interest was 2000, Bush v. Gore the Court reversed the Florida Supreme Court decision ordering manual recount of presidential election ballots.
While in my country they only go to the supreme court for their personal interest to resolve their power tussles. In their quest for power they have succeeded in taking away our power
Whatever one has against America, you can`t compare the Supreme Court there with what we have in Nigeria. What we have in Nigeria is a joke. They only rule against the government whenever nothing is at stake. Their first, second and third priority is their stomach and the need to be liked by the Executive; our Supreme Court is a mere assemblage of the worst wimps in the country. The judiciary remains the best organ of government in the United States.
