Banking sector withstood fall in price for the past few trading days.....
Seems they are yielding to the persistent sell pressure........with GTB taking the lead now.

Billtommy, I wasn't expecting you to re-enter the market the time you did, guess you'll have to average down .....

It looks like the best time to average down, I hage stopped looking at my portfolio, will try to get some more funds to average down in stocks that are heavily bleeding. Thanks for looking out mcy...

Hi everyone,

both conditions in the IF . . . THEN statement have been fulfilled.

Zenith touched 18.08 AND closed this new week with a bearish body.

Now, I expect a sell off back to 11.90 support level.

All the best everyone!

Hello house, I wish to understand two things.

What determines the price movement of a particular stock in NSE? Asides from the general supply and demand laws. Mcy says frequently that a stocks needs a particular quantity for the price to move up or down. How do we access such information?

2. How does one find out the true value of a stock? I was told there are some kind of calculations for this. I think this would help to know stock that are undervalued and overvalued....hence guiding in making some investment decisions.

Over to you gurus, Sir OGG, mcy, Oracle.....please help.

Mcy56:

You jumped out of UBA and other ones too quickly and threw money away in the process but no need to feel bad, i blvd you still made something on them regardless.

I agreed with Sir OGG that its somehow difficult to advice on what to buy now, prices have jumped up...... however, there's pullback ongoing, maybe you just keep monitoring market to know when major reversal will occur.

Thsnk you mcy. I'm observing closely

Hello house...Is it safe to buy some bank stock tomorrow considering present price? Specifically zenith, fbn and gtb?
Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by billtommy(m): 11:29am On May 26, 2020
Coolcash1:

Best time as you have missed the march entry is to wait till October to cherry pick good stocks like zenith, gtb, nestle, access, uba, dangote cement, wapco, mtn at bargain prices ahead of earning season. However, if you are a long term investor, that is you plan to hold for 5years in return for yearly dividend, you can buy any of the ones i have mentioned now.

Boss can you break it down to the understanding of newbies? What will depress the prices of stocks come october?

The mistake u made was adding up the div and bonus before deducting from the equity price. U need to 1st deduct the div from price before running the result over the bonus ratio.
So u are among those who jump off the window when maths lesson are thought back in school days. wink cheesy grin

I believe the intent is to find out what would be the equity price of JULIUS BERGER on mark down date.
...a brief;
Where a coy declares a bonus plus dividend, simply use this formula to compute the mark down price;
Mark down price(Mp)= [(Pbm-Dd) X Br(Br+1)]
Where only a bonus was declared, use the formula Mp= Pbm[Br(Br+1)], and if its only a divided, simply use
Mp= Pbm--Dd.
...Where Pbm is the equity Price before mark down, Br is the Bonus ratio while Dd is the Dividend declared.

With the JB example, the coy closed on Friday @ N27.2, and if we assume that Wednesday is the mark down date, then using the formula above, Mark down price Mp= [27.2-2[1/5(1/5+1)]= 25.2x5/6= N21
Therefore on a N2 div and 1 for 5 bonus issue, mark down price @ N27.2/share of JB= N21
So @ rebakah was correct !!

For emphasis, just substitute the price of JB on qualification date or previous mkt closing price before markdown(Pbm) in the formula to get the Mark down price.
A N32 price on the qualification date should give a N25 price after mark down.

For details of how the formula was derived, refer to the link from my past post below for clues.

Mcy56 and gurus, good morning, i need an advise on wapco. the price is better after lockdown, do you think i should pull out or still wait for capital appreciation. Access is yet to move because of the uncertainties surrounding the bank..do you think one can still key into that stock for a short term?

Hello house, i need advise on which stock to buy this week or to hold cash like some suggested

There seems to be a whole lot of uncertainities considering the recent fall in price of bonny oil, then the news of looming crisis in the banking industry due to this same fall in oil price, and then the partial opening of the economy as the governors forum suggested.
I hereby seek advise on which short to medium stock to purchase this week considering these factors and others

Thank you

Wow, i used to think this is the sanest thread on NL. This has proved me wrong. Everyone is expected to treat each other with respect, dignity and address issues with maturity. This is fast becoming a rowdy market. Please lets caution ourselves and face the purpose we are here for.
