SmooshCHN:man, the way they keep arguing, even when the mistakes are pointed out. omo, information is not the same as wisdom o. It would be a laughing matter if not for whole families wiped out before they could repent of their foolishness. |
Android17:If the vaccine didn't provide immunity, it would be useless. All the field tests by moderna, pfizer etc must have been made up. No one would need to get it. Right? What you have missed is that viral load does not correlate with immunity - you can have similar viral load to a vaccinated person, but the vaccinated person is much more likely to recover quicker and survive, and therefore much less likely to infect. This small distinction has killed hundreds already, who live on tidbits of information without looking at the whole picture. The experts read the same papers you read. I will take general consensus of experts over your own conclusion. Another example: Masks. Yes, its true that most masks cannot protect you for more than 30 minutes in a room which the virus is airborne. Some people mistakenly assume this means masks are not effective. What they forget, is that if everyone is wearing a mask, the virus is much less likely to be airborne. Again, limited information resulting in bad conclusion with deadly consequences. And this is the problem with Kyrie, and a lot of anti-vaxxers. There is a lot of information and papers out there, and they think they can read it in the span of minutes and argue with immunologists who have 4 decades of experience and training. You want us to take your conclusion on bits of research info and jump to your conclusion. Are you better trained than Fauci and co? what are you credentials? I am being harsh on purpose, because people like to argue about in circles for days on an issue they have no expertise on. There is no need. If you dont want to take the vaccine, cool. Dont endanger everybody else. That is what the experts have said. Again, I will take them over lone wolf doctors with politicized opinions. |
Android17:Bro, lets not go too far. There is no comparison between Kaepernick kneeling against police brutality versus Kyrie not taking the vaccine. Instead, lets take the Kyrie issue by itself. 1. Nobody is forcing Kyrie to take the vaccine. If he wants a religious exemption, he can, and will get it 2. The issue here, is that covid, when caught, is contagious. And not taking the vaccine makes you more likely to catch covid. So while Kyrie has a right to NOT take the vaccine, the team also has a right to protect other players from a player that has a higher risk So again, Kyrie can qualify for any exemption he wants. Free country. But you cannot make others suffer the choice you made. Now if this were tetanus or some other disease, maybe they let him play. But a disease that took out half a million people in less than a year, even with intensive hospital care? No. NBA cant risk it. |
steady986:use nairaland to PM me |
A40:Going back to school at 35! Having to rough it with kids half your age. No doubt I figured JR wrong |
SmooshCHN:worst thing for these players is to go back to your hometown. You will just have a bunch of people leeching off you, telling you want you want to hear. Right up until he wrecks his career. |
KNIGHTBlaed:I enjoyed trolling smooshchn last year. I bumped him out of the final playoffs spot, and made it all the way to the finals. I cant even lie, it was a sweet ride ![]() |
steady986:You roster will have like 12 guys. You will have the following 8 positions to fill PG G SG F SF C Util Util I usually use the weekly button to fill week by week, and daily I adjust if needed |
steady986:Actually its the opposite. Star players get injured or load managed often, which can kill your plan A. To counter, you can add and drop players all season long. Rookies and sophomores are very valuable in this regard - some will catch fire midway into the season. Some vets also turn the tables and drop double-doubles after being traded. I owe my run last year to predicting which players are about to get hot and picking them in time. smooshchn and joephemzyz are very good at this btw. Many times, they will have snatched the guy I was setting for like hours beforehand. Other guys know how to beat you with a team that looks inferior, without add/dropping players. Then there are the cats that play like 3 fantasy leagues so they have benefit of strategy from other leagues. I wont name them here before them KILL me ![]() In short, after like the first month, everyone is scrambling for plan B, C and D |
steady986:The short of it: you draft about 10 players that you think will be the best players in the upcoming season. Every week you line those players up against a different opponent and compete in 10 categories like Most Points, Most Assists, Least Turnovers, FG % etc. Each category you win in is 1 pt. So if you played SmooshCHN week 1, final score might be 7-3 for example. We tally these points per week, and towards the end of the season, the top 6 players enter the playoffs. Obviously the initial draft is key, and people use different strategies. If you draft a Harden and other scorers, you likely win Most Points category every week you play. But if you draft too many scorers, your rebounds and assists suffer and you might lose overall each week. Or you can draft balanced teams, so that if you have a superstar like AD that goes down due to injury, you team still has enough balance to win categories. The draft has 10 rounds, and by round 3, most of the big name players are gone. This is where you have to think about diamonds in the rough, players no one knows that will ball in the upcoming season. Every season we have played has its own challenges. Last year, the injury bug was strong in the league, and it changed peoples strategies. Imagine you picked AD with your high draft pick, and he gets injured half the season! You have to figure out how to replace him from free agency. You might get lucky and pick up a no name player that gets hot, or you could trade with another team to re-arrange your roster. You can swap players from free agency up to 4 times per week to help with injuries. Last season people used this a lot to stay afloat. All of this means the initial draft we do next week is crucial. Everybody wants to pick the superstars like Giannis and Durant obviously. But if you see AD and Lillard available, who do you pick? If you think AD will have his best year ever, you pick the all-rounder AD. If you think AD will have another injury season, you pick a Lillard instead and take his points with a high TO and low FG pct. I should add that most nairalanders I have played with are bloodhounds, These guys have no joy and will punish you as much as possible. You make a mistake and they will gladly flog you an 8-2 or 9-1. Nigerians have a high level of wickedness in the blood But dont worry, some of us are nice guys, and we will treat you humanely until you learn the ropes. ![]() |

A40:Hmm, true talk. AB has been low key for a minute. Even with ring |
A40:I hope he writes a book or documentary on his mindset. I was looking forward to reading Kobe's own some day. The kind of discipline that trumps talent is very very rare. |
Wait, why are Lakers working out Monta Ellis, 4 years after he left the league? Make it make sense somebody ![]() |
Roland17:Professional guy mehn. Know his job, does his job. No fuss, no muss |
Roland17:fortune favors the brave. I would be surprised if his throwing gets significantly better. |
Coach Fizdale joins the Lakers Now I know a lot of folk are moved more by player trades than coaching hires, so you may think Im wrong. BUT before yall jump on me and start beating me, check out his one season as head coach with the Grizzlies. This guy is a defensive genius, much better than Thibodeau in my opinion. This guy wont last a year before someone else picks him up as head coach. To me, the biggest failing of Lakers last season was team defense, because all the injuries put them out of sync. There is no way Booker would have lit up the previous years Lakers like he did. If Lakers button up their defense with Fizdale, they are coming out of the West. And they have a good chance to make a Lakers-Nets matchup best of 3 in a 7 game series. |
Roland17:Love celtic ke? Im only giving props to Pierce, not the organization. Its like goat meat. I eat the meat, throw away d bones ![]() |
Roland17:very interesting that KG is who he chose to sit next to him at the speech. A lifetime bond in 3 years of playing together. well deserved. a profound and truthful speech. definitely a softer side of Pierce. good to see ray there as well. |
A40:those hits add up. all the strength training in the world cannot save you from the effect of naturally bigger guys lighting your @** up every sunday. At least e don get contract ![]() |
Roland17:I havent seen how much he bulked up, but tmac and kobe did that together one season, and they got injured all the time. Next season they dropped the weight. Even an extra 5-10 pounds of muscle adds a lot more stress to joints than one would think. Its fun to watch though, because you get to the rim much easier. And you can play forward/center sometimes |
Michael K is gone yall. Im shook |
steady986:I could be wrong, but I would be very shocked if Lebron can play as well as you think this coming season. |
SmooshCHN:They are picking these guys up for minimum dollars. I think these teams know better than you and me how much these guys have left in the tank. Gasol made a splash trade last year, but had nothing left in the tank. Rondo has big name, but you can tell his best days are over. Same with Ariza. Kendrick Nunn is the only guy I am excited about in all the trades Lakers made. Everything else na filler As far as deep teams, Nets and Warriors are the teams to watch. They are the deepest and most talented. The next level teams in the west are Denver, Lakers and Clippers. East is Bucks, 76ers, Hawks. |
steady986:Yeah, you right. Lots of bigger bodies - again I see it as insurance to have a viable team if Lebron or AD goes down. These are all has been players, but what they bring is not necessarily shown in the stats. Its the veteran presence, know how and calm. At the very least no team can bully you on the floor. One weakness though, it doesnt account for teams that can win playing small ball, like the Warriors. This will be a problem to solve come playoffs |

steady986:One one hand, I feel like team USA should have chilled and kept the score respectable. On the other hand, I see Costa Rica going a whole quarter without scoring. You can suck so much, no one can save you what a disgrace |
steady986:I wish they had picked up IT instead. But I guess the emphasis is on size for defense vs offense |
https://thesportsrush.com/nba-news-he-really-said-fck-you-joakim-noah-paul-pierce-reveals-how-kevin-garnett-crushed-a-rookie-joakim-noahs-heart-after-receiving-genuine-praise-from-the-bulls-center/You guys were making it seem like I just picked on Garnett. Even pierce the truth is telling the truth. That Celtic big 3 championship ring was gutsy thrill ride. And I enjoyed it. But I dont know of any other championship team that ended up that dysfunctional. Till today, Ray Allen is on the outs. The Detroit Pistons team under Billups was a lot meaner, but that killer instinct never spilled over outside the bball court. Really weird. I wonder if Ray Allen could have been the cool down factor on the team. Probably didnt help when Doc Rivers undermined him in favor of Rondo. This is relevant to the 76ers as well, because if Doc Rivers doesnt handle this Simmons thing well, and Simmons is still with the team, this could get toxic quick |
steady986:Thats how you know Skip no understand basketball I would like to see Rondo back on the Lakers though. He wont win you a ring, but he is very smart, complemented Lebron well on the floor |
