All set for nairaleague draft tomorrow! 6am PDT, 2PM nigerian time. May my enemies oversleep!

In round 1 of tomorrow's draft, we draft according to who won last year. After that its snaking, to give a fair chance to everyone. See definition of snaking below:

1 Killrhymz
2 birdman
3 KNIGHTBlaed
4 oisujeh
5 aliondo
6 SmooshCHN
7 Hohenheim
8 Hardetayour
9 donlittle25
10 steady986

In Snaking drafts (standard), pick order reverses each round. So, the team with the first pick in odd-numbered rounds gets the last pick in even rounds. Non-snaking drafts don't reverse, so the same team gets the first pick in every round.

The major issue is most people don't know how drugs get approved. Ivermectin is an approved horse dewormer, to put it through the testing for covid means you have to take a drug you know was developed for an animal and then get a test group of humans who have covid and then use it on them, instead of giving them already known treatment. You know what that will entail a freaking huge lawsuit with incredible payouts if people die during those trials. We are not talking dummy crash testing when we talk about medicine, we are talking about putting actual human lives in the balance to test a theory which already has a serviceable conclusion (i.e invermectin is a horse dewormer).

PS: Medical science has not failed anybody, we the people have continued to fail ourselves by letting capitalist, control things as important as medical research.
When you vote and support politicians/policies that insist of keeping medical research a profit based endeavor, what is currently occurring is what you get. Investors only care about return on capital, saving lives is an afterthought.
One thing should be self evident by now; Research of all kind in very costly and if the only funding available for researchers are controlled by investors then said researchers have no choice but to focus research on what those who pay the bills want them to do.
Thanks for adding this. I should mention though, that Ivermectin is used for river blindness in west africa, and has been for some time. I even remember the name of the parasite: Onchocerciasis from secondary school wink Obviously different dosage than given to horses. But Ivermectin is known to be safe for humans. Many studies on this abound. In particular, Japan views it as a wonder drug, because of the minimal side effects and other benefits.

Also, at the start of the pandemic, a Nigerian research institute did a 6 month study and found positive effects. Based on that study, several senators were dosed on Ivermectin and recovered. There was an even larger study in Argentina. I dont have the bandwidth to google either now.

So to me, this should have been enough for FDA to change its stance. Just because it is not being used already in the USA, is no reason to discount the usage in other parts of the world. Are the people using it for river blindness not people?

No one is saying medical science has failed anybody. But there is politics around that science, and sometimes results in less than optimal outcome. After all, people are people. The fact that Ivermectin usage world wide is not well known in the USA tells you not all facts are on the table. And these are the kinds of things than give anti-vaxxer conspiracies life.

I think Kyrie is lost. I think he is still struggling with self definition. How can you be this insanely skilled and still let everything wash down the drain for next to nothing? The cause he claims to be fighting for(which I think is a cover up by the way) is way too small compared to the gift and glory he is giving up. And please don't compare him to Muhammed Ali.

Or is this about a gift and a curse?
more like an unmanaged gift. If he had no skill and was just flipping burger at some low paying job, nobody would care what his views are. Like they say, your gift can take you where your character cant keep you.

Having said that my opinion is that there is a reason a phenomenon like the anti vaxxers movement is on the rise. The reason:
Medical science failed us, simple.

...

We need a medical system we can trust again.

I believe this is partly behind some of the frustrations of many anti-vaxxers.

And no I am not an anti-vaxxer.
I agree with you on this. No doubt, big pharma is more interested in money than saving lives. And FDA has colluded with them on occasion. It is well known that former FDA officials land cushy jobs in the industry on retirement.

I would even take it further. Drugs like Ivermectin should have been studied by FDA before dismissing it. There are dozens of large scale studies in multiple countries going back decades that show it is safe, and can be used by humans. More recent studies have shown some effect against the virus.

With all that being said, it is still a stretch to use this to conclude that you wont take the vaccine. For every distinguished scientist that hates the vaccine, there are 100 distinguished scientist that approve it. No matter the corruption in big pharma, there is more safety in checks by 100 people versus one lone wolf.

Instead, I think what we have is the same phenomenon that birthed a Trump presidency. Some people have figured out how to weave half a dozen true facts into a web of lies. And they know how to addict and perpetuate it in people's minds. There is a technique to it, and I fear we will see more of this in the future. As in, you will see the blue sky, and someone will be convinced its not blue, its really red. Or that the earth is flat. We have 500,000 dead in one year from one virus, and you will still see people trying to excuse it embarassed

shocked How do u know this? Abi u be witch? Its not in the OP’s story. According to the narrative, d school claimed he was 60yrs, i.e due for retirement, then on compassion he was redeployed, to which he CONSENTED. So it seems someone convinced him he can make more money suing the school than working as a lecturer.
Read it again, its there. And Im sure he would have tendered the said letter in court too.

Compassion where? Lol. If it was retirement and he consented to redeployment, it would all have been documented, and the court would have ruled in favor of the school. This is a university, not a mom and pop shop. The retirement was an "explanation" made up to look less guilty in court. Thankfully, the judge looked at the mans contract, not dem say.

Hopefully there is some internal review within the university to fish out those who tried to bully this man, and why. They just cost the school N10m.

So Kyrie has said he isn't anti-vax and needs time to process all that is going on. It went from I'm skipping the VAX due to religious reasons (whether rumours or true), to I'm a voice to the voiceless, to I'm not anti-vax and need time. I see what he's trying to do here. He's wants our sympathy but doesn't want to own up for all the noise he has caused in the past few weeks. Las las baba go collect the vaccine then come out and say there was no doubt in his mind he was going to take the vax, that he just needed time.
What I am seeing with most antivaxxers, when you refute their theories with hard facts and numbers is that they shift the argument to something else. To be able to say gee, I am wrong is nearly impossible. Because they would have to admit they have been bamboozeld into believing nonsense. Till now sef, there are Trump supported still asking for more audits!!! grin

I said I won't say anything again but I just want to say Kyrie is now my favourite player in the NBA. I just read that the Nets offered him a chance to take regular tests before games and he refused - that is ballsy. I would not have refused that option. The man is fully committed to his convictions and I will always root for such a player whether I agree with him or not. I pray he goes to a team that will let him play and I will also be praying that he wins an MVP and finals MVP to go with another ring. He has heart and he deserves to succeed. As for other wise people who can smell a rat - 70K healthcare workers were fired in NYC for not taking a jab during a "pandemic". If anyone could think, they should find out how in one breath someone can complain about health institutions being overwhelmed (hoax) and in another breath, you fire the workforce that would have prevented you from being overwhelmed. Like someone on the Chelsea thread said, I laugh in new world order. Don't forget brethren, that these same healthcare workers were called heroes because they worked during the heat of the crisis last year when there was no jab available. Now they are selfish because they won't take a "free" jab. But this is about science!!!!
In case you were referring to me, I know nurses and doctors. So this is not some theoretical research I am doing on the internet. One of your antivaxxers even challenged me on that. So I sent him the URLs to several states EMS capacity indicators (most states track emergency room capacity in real-time and post it online in Yankee). He verified I was telling the truth, but did that change his stance? Of course not grin. He just moved on to another "research" he had discovered. As usual, you guys will ignore any evidence that doesnt support what you want, and just go find "research" that supports what you want to hear. Carry the h*ll on grin

I think this is a case of someone who really knows his right and is willing to explore it. So redeployment in a workplace without consent is potentially illegal? Never knew.
Not if he has a contract tenuring him at a specific dept. Someone wanted to punish him for having the effontery to have a contrary opinion. Luckily, the man knew his rights.
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 12:09pm On Oct 14, 2021
People talking about their rights to not take the vaccine, except when they actually get sick as a dog, these same people have no problem driving to the hospital and insisting already overworked nurses treat them. We currently have people dying of treatable issues because the emergency wards are already filled with covid patients, and surgeries are being postponed. Even cancer treatments schedules are now messed up! Social and mental help is now scarce as resources are diverted to covid problems. Even law enforcement are feeling it as murder rates double - all the social work that would normally reduce mental breakdowns is limited.

But no, I wont walk down the road to take a free vaccine, because... Kyrie deserves every bit of crap he gets for this nonsense. He said he is thinking of workers that are being forced to vaxx. What of the nurses with mental breakdowns? The diabetic that needs surgery but dies before he can get one because there is no space. The millions of other people who cant get good healthcare. What of those guys?

Knowledge without wisdom is dangerous!

Make I just give the team one month first. I'll make a definite conclusion after that.
This lakers team has the feel of the Boston Celtics when Garnett and Ray Allen joined Pierce. Celtics picked up veteran swingmen like Posey and just filled the bench with players who used to be good, but now a little older. Lots of one year rentals and almost retiring players looking for a ring.

If this Lakers team develops that same type of chemistry and can play lockdown defense for 15 minutes most nights, they have a good shot of OGing the younger teams. This is going to be real tricky.

Props to Nash for playing the right amount of politics so that he does not look like the bad guy should Kyrie return. I actually feel sorry for Kyrie - a fool that doesnt know hes a fool. Maybe a hard stance will wake this guy up. But I think a trade might be in order. Trade him far away, where all the funny influences cant reach him.

I keep telling guys to stop looking at names. There is only one rock and LBJ is not a magician. I want to see what the Lakers look like defensively come season start. Defense is their hope, because offensively, I can name 3, 4 teams in the west alone far better than they are. As far as I am concerned, Lakers have a big 2. I dont consider WB and Melo as legit championship threats. They have to prove me wrong.

This is why people need to go to school. This is the kind of things anti-vaxxers do when they say they are conducting their research. This should only be taken seriously in a comedy class. Not even when more then 80% have done it without a single complication. Every work place have their rules. If you can't live with it, just leave. It's that simple. grin grin

Brother, this is not true. If it were, Wiggins' request would have been honoured. That is the issue - such requests are being denied.

Your 2nd point would have been spot on if the so-called vaccine provided immunity. It does not. You are not more likely to get COVID19 without the jab - Fauci said both jabbed and unjabbed people carried equal viral loads. If you doubt me, what is the rationale behind "protecting other players" if the other players are jabbed? Should they not be protected by the jab? I know someone who thinks they are informed might say the jab only protects against hospitalizations and deaths. Granted, does it not mean only Kyrie is at risk of hospitalization and death? The reality is nobody has been able to make a convincing argument in support of NYC or the NBA - and I guarantee you that this is part of why Kyrie is unwilling to yield. Look at Jaylen Brown who has been jabbed, he recently tested positive and is going to miss games. Why is he not being accused of risking people's lives since he too could have spread the virus? Let me guess, he is not risking people's lives because he complied but if Kyrie was the one who tested positive today, he would have been accused of risking people's lives. Something is diabolically wrong with the logic behind this.
If the vaccine didn't provide immunity, it would be useless. All the field tests by moderna, pfizer etc must have been made up. No one would need to get it. Right? What you have missed is that viral load does not correlate with immunity - you can have similar viral load to a vaccinated person, but the vaccinated person is much more likely to recover quicker and survive, and therefore much less likely to infect. This small distinction has killed hundreds already, who live on tidbits of information without looking at the whole picture. The experts read the same papers you read. I will take general consensus of experts over your own conclusion.

Another example: Masks. Yes, its true that most masks cannot protect you for more than 30 minutes in a room which the virus is airborne. Some people mistakenly assume this means masks are not effective. What they forget, is that if everyone is wearing a mask, the virus is much less likely to be airborne. Again, limited information resulting in bad conclusion with deadly consequences.

And this is the problem with Kyrie, and a lot of anti-vaxxers. There is a lot of information and papers out there, and they think they can read it in the span of minutes and argue with immunologists who have 4 decades of experience and training. You want us to take your conclusion on bits of research info and jump to your conclusion. Are you better trained than Fauci and co? what are you credentials?

I am being harsh on purpose, because people like to argue about in circles for days on an issue they have no expertise on. There is no need. If you dont want to take the vaccine, cool. Dont endanger everybody else. That is what the experts have said. Again, I will take them over lone wolf doctors with politicized opinions.

What is happening to the world we live in? Should the behaviour of another muslim be used as a yardstick for all others or should it not be about the tenets of their faith? I asked a question which the 2 other people who tried to respond to ignored because it pokes a big hole in their flawed and uninformed perspective. When NYC announced their mandate, did they not say certain individuals will be exempted from it for medical and religious reasons? If that is the case, then why should Kyrie not qualify for a religious exemption? If people cannot see that something is fundamentally wrong with issuing a mandate, pretending to allow for exemptions to that mandate but then denying all such requests for exemptions, I shudder at what we as humans have become. Then why do they take the knee in solidarity with Colin and why does the NBA allow them to do it? They are all as vicious and insensitive as the people who blackballed Colin for his own beliefs.
Bro, lets not go too far. There is no comparison between Kaepernick kneeling against police brutality versus Kyrie not taking the vaccine. Instead, lets take the Kyrie issue by itself.

1. Nobody is forcing Kyrie to take the vaccine. If he wants a religious exemption, he can, and will get it

2. The issue here, is that covid, when caught, is contagious. And not taking the vaccine makes you more likely to catch covid. So while Kyrie has a right to NOT take the vaccine, the team also has a right to protect other players from a player that has a higher risk

So again, Kyrie can qualify for any exemption he wants. Free country. But you cannot make others suffer the choice you made. Now if this were tetanus or some other disease, maybe they let him play. But a disease that took out half a million people in less than a year, even with intensive hospital care? No. NBA cant risk it.
