Edit: Talking of the mix, the masons did 10 paint buckets of plaster sand plus two buckets of sharp sand to a bag of cement. Are you sure of this your mix as usage for plastering ? Is this the usual mix within your location or there's an engineering or logical reason behind this mix? If yes, can one put a nail on this plastered wall and it will hold? |

My girlfriend doesn't do that when she comes around If you certainly know, deep down in you that you can't control your girlfriend, can't put her in checks and she does not listen to you of which she waves your talks with her hands.......... burggerx: One thing that scares the hell out of me about my girlfriend is her attitude. When you talk about a disrespectful and unsubmissive lady, my girlfriend is the headquarters of all the disrespectful and unsubmissive ladies I've ever met. Even if she does something good, I don't tend to notice it because her bad attitude has already overshadowed the good side of her
Even if she acts respectful to me, it's so obvious she's only forcing it since it's a trait she lacks. Just when a little brawl ensues, curses and abusive words are usually not far-fetched from her mouth. She has even insulted my family before during a heated argument. The only thing my girlfriend is yet to do is to beat me up
I believe they say respect is earned but I've done everything a man should do to earn respect from his lady yet this lady talks to me like a kid. No sign of humility at all
My girlfriend is not only dominating but toxic and does not accept correction. She makes it look like giving authority as a man is slavery and she questions my authority every time. The annoying part is that she argues a lot and always wants to be right at all times. Feminism is written all over her to the extent that even in movies, my girlfriend will have the back of a woman who is unsubmissive and disrespectful to an innocent husband.
Although she acts like a respectful girlfriend in the presence of my family but my mom in question is smart enough to know that she's only faking it despite trying all my best to portray my girlfriend as someone that gives me joy in the face of my mom
Before my mom traveled to the UK in September, she sat me down up to three times and advised me to let go of this girl if I really want to spend the rest of life with peace of mind and that if I insist on marrying her, she doesn't have a choice than to respect my decision but she will remind me of her advice which I didn't yield to if I eventually end up as a frustrated man in the future
I've tried to terminate the relationship but she cries and makes the whole thing look like I don't love her and that if I do, I should be able to cope with her flaws. There was even a time she told me she doesn't have a choice than to respect me if I marry her and I was like WTF!
I have decided to call the relationship a quit once and for all since I'm not in for any future drama. I don't want to end up with a woman that will be rude and disrespect me in the face of my own children.
But there's one question I want to ask is that, can a ride girlfriend ever change after marriage? Is it worth taking the risk that she will change with time? It appears you have not finally made peace with yourself to let her go. Try this out and let the outcome be the judge.... Bring out all your dirty clothes of one month ago and that of about 3 of your friends. Also add hers to it and tell her to do the washing while you sit down and observe. ....... I'll like to know how it plays |

TheSkyIsBlue: My Sister Is About To Commit A Serious Taboo All In The Name Of Marriage
Hello Nairalanders!
Please ignore any typographical or grammatical error. I just want to pour it out the way it is in my heart.
I am seriously confused and worried about what is happening in my family and I will appreciate your candid advice.
There is this guy my sister has been in a relationship with for over seven years now. so he actually asked her hand in marriage and decided to come see my parents for introduction, about some months ago. My family decided to take their time to find out more about the guys family background as is required in Igbo tradition.
After several questions asked, my family came to find out that the guy is an Osu (an outcast). On knowing this, everybody in my family told my sister to cut ties with him and discontinue the relationship because it is a big taboo to get married to an Osu in my place . If you do, no family member or friend will attend your wedding or even have anything to do with you again.
But my sister refused to listen to anybody claiming she really loves the guy, that they have been together for a very long time and that she is not getting younger anymore (mind you, she is in her early thirties). Everybody (my parents and extended family members) tried to talk her out of it but she still didn't listen.
After much pressure and her continues insistence, my dad decided to give them his blessings, although against his wish (my dad is actually not really deep into tradition). Now the guy has done all the traditional rights and paid for her dowry. Their wedding is coming up soon.
But the problem now is, according to tradition and from what I heard, if she was allowed to go with the guy without my dad giving them his blessings, the stigma would have just been on her and she alone would have been considered Osu, since she insisted to continue with the marriage. But now that my dad has given them his blessings, it is considered that all of us (her siblings) will also have that link of Osu too. Except if she decide to put an end to the relationship and discontinue with the wedding, which I don't think my sister is ready to do.
I am really worried and depressed about it, cause I don't want anything that will affect me tomorrow when I want to get married just because of my sister's mistakes.
I will really like to get opinions and sincere advice especially from those that are familiar with tradition, cause I'm seriously bothered. Thanks! It would interest us to know which of the igbo speaking states, lga and community. Anyways I thought some elders of your region came up some time ago to abolish this act and put penalties on anyone stigmatizing others. .. |

tevanso: what is your reason for chaining internal walls **Because of over zealous engineers/builders/artisans once there's a crack on the wall they will attribute it to the impartial chaining of lintel. ** It reduces clients fear in circumstances when there is need to modify the structure(breaking of walls or recreating something else). ** The chaining of internal walls acts like an opposing force that balances that on the external walls when all are properly linked. |

I intend to use columns, i am considering doing short lintels and doing a roof beam or to do chain lintel and leave the room beam, please which would u advice? Thanks Cc saydfact bixton and other great experts There are several reasons for doing a roof beam but given cost cutting ............. Option 1.... Do chain lintel on external walls and on any major wall cutting the building if there is. You can do short lintel on internal walls. Option 2..... Do chain lintel on all internal and external walls of the building. N/B: Due to clips used in holding the wall plate onto the wall, please kindly inform your engineer/builder, carpenter to liaise with the iron bender to cut quarter rods(it has different thickness) of appropriate length to be fastened unto the lintel before you pour your concrete. Ensure the length cut is sufficient depending on number of blocks you intend putting after the lintel works. |

In this case, would I still get 5% from the owners of the land while the person who led us to the owner of the land gets his sorted by them? In an ideal environment both buyer and seller pays an agreed percentage of total purchase amount to be shared amongst their respective middle men separately. As a buyers' middle man, your percentage comes from your client. Sellers' middle man will often times collect from both sides due to their role. temi4fash: About some few meters high but not high enough to enter in the house.
The building is a ground floor structure. 4 room bungalow. The cause of that is level of groundwater beneath the house. The flood water has increased the level of the water probably in an unanticipated way, that's why; meaning the DPC level is on the low side. Possible solution(s) is to do a rich concrete mix of desired thickness with a mixture of water sealant cement(used by tilers) to be place on a DPM. There are various types and sizes(the water sealant) but you should buy that one which the pack is big and not the sachet size. It's quite expensive. The other one is to de-roof the house and increase the height of the DPC and make all corrections upwards before re-installing the roof members. This second option is what I did at a client's residence when we had the 2012 flooding in Bayelsa/Yenagoa. It was a 5 bedroom bungalow, 3 units- one bedroom apartments and 2 units self contain, all in the same plot. Also had to increase the height of the compound since generally it was on the low side. Good luck. |

temi4fash: Thanks for this.
Any idea how we can resolve the issue? Although her foundation is pretty high though, about 3 blocks above ground as you suggested that was why we were surprised water could get thru the foundation. Could it mean the foundation was not well sand filled and rammed??
Would including a nylon in the German floor stop this kind of stuff from happening in a new building??
Thanks again If I may ask.... What is the level of water outside the building in the compound? |

temi4fash: Good afternoon all,
We have an undeveloped property in Mangoro, When the rains got very heavy coupled with the opened dam, water entered into our neighbors house from the Foundation, All the tiles opened up. Affected 2 rooms and the parlor.
What could be the issue and any insight to how to get ti resolved.
We are thinking of continuing our own property cos we are in the foundation stage, Kindly advise on what to do so that we dont have that kind of issue in our own house when we done.
Thanks in advance Is the house just a ground floor structure or storey building? If water got into the house via the foundation(sub-structure) then it means that the building is sitting on a place where underground water runs and the release of the water from the dam just raised the water level. But all the same, the buildings' foundation is on the low side. Another thing......when you say all the tiles opened up. That is just an indication of low quality work. There's no sufficient cement when they screed the floor before placing the tiles. When you intend building your house ensure that your foundation is quite high. And if there is any water on the surrounding environment ensure the height of your foundation is by 3 blocks. |

Politics › Re: Senators Pass Tax Bill That They Have Not Seen Or Read - Premium Times by bixton(m): 9:13am On Nov 07, 2019 |
fergie001: Nigerian senators on Wednesday passed a tax bill that they have not seen and are not fully aware of its content.
The approval given on Wednesday by the Senate is the second in a series of legislative and executive steps to make the bill become law. The bill was read for the first time at the Senate on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, at least two senators complained, wondering how they would debate and pass a bill whose content they do not know. Senate President Ahmad Lawan overruled both senators.
The Senate then passed the second reading of the bill that seeks to increase the value-added tax (VAT) from five per cent to 7.5 per cent.
No copies of the bill were shared to senators to allow for any meaningful contribution before it was debated and passed.
President Muhammadu Buhari had, in October, presented the bill to a joint session of the National Assembly for consideration and passage into law. He made the presentation of the Finance Bill alongside the 2020 Appropriation Bill.
Raising Concerns
Before deliberations began on the bill, Binos Yaroe (Adamawa South, PDP), drew the attention of the Senate to its rules which requires that all senators must have a copy of the bill before it is deliberated upon.
He said according to the rules, every senator should have copies of the bill.
“Our rules say that printed copies of the bill shall as soon as possible be sent to every senator. We are at the stage of the second reading of this bill. I don’t know for others but I have not received the bill, I don’t know how we can debate a bill that we have not received,” the Adamawa lawmaker said asking how lawmakers could debate a bill whose content they do not know.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, noted his point but said the debate would still go on.
Senator President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan “We are at this point going to debate the general principles of the bill and in line with our tradition, convention here, even the Appropriations Bill that we debate, we don’t have the bill normally,” he said.
Not satisfied, Betty Apiafi (Rivers West, PDP), also raised the same concern but Mr Lawan simply said “When the Senate committee on finance reports this, the bills will be made available and we can compare with what we are amending.”
He then ruled Ms Apiafi out of order.
The Lead Debate
The Senate Leader, Abdullahi Yahaya, who led the debate, said the bill has five strategic objectives.
He said they are to promote fiscal equity by mitigating instances of regressive taxation; to reform domestic tax laws to align with global best practices and to introduce tax incentives for investment in infrastructure.
Others are to support ongoing ease of doing business reforms and to raise revenues for government including the proposal to increase the value-added tax (VAT) from five per cent to 7.5 per cent.
He said the 2020 appropriation bill is based on the provisions of this bill and additional revenues will be used to fund health, education and infrastructure programmes. The lawmaker said the states and local governments are allocated 85 per cent of VAT revenues.
He said the bill seeks to amend the following tax provisions and make them more responsive to the policies of the federal government.
(A) The company tax CAP C21 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. (B) To reform VAT CAP 4 2007 – this is in line with global best practices. It seeks to improve the efficiency of the Nigerian VAT system. (C ) Customs and excise tariff act CAP C49 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 – this bill seeks to subject certain goods to excise duties in similar manner of their local manufactured counterparts. (D) Reforming personal income tax E8 laws of the Federation of Nigeria – the bill seeks to provide clarity in individual taxes of Nigeria (E) Capital gains tax act CAP C1 laws of the federation of Nigeria 2007 – this bill seeks and cover taxation of business combinations and seeks to prevent abuse of provisions of the act on group restructuring. (F) Stock duty act 58 laws of the federation of Nigeria – this bill seeks to increase the duty on electronic stocks and electronic consumption. (G) Petroleum profit tax – this bill seeks to increase revenue by removing the tax exemption granted for dividends or income derived from companies charges under the act.
Mr Yahaya stated that VAT is a good avenue for generating high revenue for the government. He added that the bill will transform Nigeria’s economic fortunes.
The other lawmakers who made comments hailed the provisions of the bill and urged other colleagues to support its passage. Some of the lawmakers who spoke are Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto East, APC), Istifanus Gyang (Plateau North, PDP), Buhari Abdulfatai (Oyo North, APC), George Sekibo (Rivers East, PDP) and Sahabi Yau (Zamfara North, PDP). None of the lawmakers, across party lines, who supported the bill claimed they had seen a copy of it or were sure of its content. Yet, they supported it.
The bill was thereafter read for the second time and referred to the Senate Committee on Judiciary for further legislative work. The committee was asked to report back after two weeks.
https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/361319-nigerian-senators-pass-tax-bill-that-theyve-not-seen-read.html Very very useless set of legislators who will never understand simple economics or how to go about increasing revenue for the Nigerian state.
