Politics › FG Sacks 16,000 Resident Doctors by Boss13(op): 8:53am On Aug 15, 2014
HE Federal Government on Wednesday sacked all resident doctors in the country.

In a press release by the Deputy Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Health, Alhaji Isiaka Yusuf, the Federal Government said it had to do so after exploring all avenues to end the strike, which it said had compounded the health crisis in the country.

It would be recalled that the Nigeria Medical Association had directed its members natiuonwide to go on strike on July 1. The National Association of Resident Doctors, an affiliate of the NMA, has put its numerical strentgh at about 16,000.

“The situation has been compounded by the recent importation of the Ebola Virus Disease into Nigeria on July 20, 2014. Following the Presidential declaration of a National Public Health Emergency on Ebola Disease, which has united the entire country in the efforts to contain the disease, it is quite regrettable that the people who should take leadership role in the fight against the Ebola disease are now the most unsupportive,’” the statement said.

The resident doctors were unceremoniously relieved of their jobs after the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, on Wednesday, issued a directive terminating the residency training programme for doctors in the country until further notice.

The PUNCH learnt that the development, however, was without prejudice to the employment of locum doctors on six months renewable contract tied to excellent performance.

In a circular by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. L.N. Awute, to all Chief Medical Directors and medical directors in public hospitals across the country, said the development was “for the purposes of appraising the challenges in the health sector’.

“The honourable minister has directed that you issue letters of termination of Residency Training appointment to the affected Resident Doctors in your hospital immediately,’’ Awute said.

In another copy attached to the letter, the ministry also directed the CMDs to pay “salaries and allowances for one month in lieu of notice.”

“You are required to surrender all hospital property in your possession, including any staff identity card,” the statement added in the instruction to the doctors affected by the development.

The National Association of Resident Doctors, has however, described the directive as unfortunate.

In a telephone interview with our correspondent, the NARD president, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Moroof Abdulsalam said the development would be resisted. Abdulsalam who said he was not sure of the exact number of doctors affected, however disclosed that there are over 60 centres in Nigeria where residency training programmes are undertaken. According to him there are about 200 resident doctors in each of the centre.

“It came as a shock to us. As we speak, the national officers of the Nigeria Medical Association and the NARD are meeting. We are waiting for further directive. We have told our members to remain calm in the face of this provocation. We all know that resident doctors are the engine rooms of the health sector especially in this country where we have a shortage of specialists. That anyone would even moot the idea is unimaginable. The Lagos State Government did it two years ago and we all know what happened. We will resist this,” he said.

Politics › Re: EBOLA Cure Discovered!!! by Boss13: 6:18pm On Aug 05, 2014
citizenisb: A representative from the National Institutes of Health contacted Samaritan's Purse in Liberia and offered the experimental treatment, known as ZMapp, for the two patients, according to the source.

The drug was developed by the biotech firm Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc. The patients were told that this treatment had never been tried before in a human being but had shown promise in small experiments with monkeys.

According to company documents, four monkeys infected with Ebola survived after being given the therapy within 24 hours after infection.

Two of four additional monkeys that started therapy within 48 hours after infection also survived.

One monkey that was not treated died within five days of exposure to the virus.
Where did they get the Ebola used to infect the monkeyshuhhuhhuh That is where investigation should start from.
Politics › Re: Who Created The Ebola Virus? by Boss13: 5:32pm On Aug 04, 2014
suwailad: Who created the ebola virus?
I think 98% certainty that the ebola was a modified virus strain.now the question is who created it?
They tell us bats and monkey meat transmit it, i'm not a scientist but of a certain it would have been deliberate to allow it spread at this rate because it had to be tested on humans for a cure. Theres been news of the two american doctors and now they will sure get cured due to a "secret serum". Did they deliberately infect themselves on testing while waiting for the "cure" but the strain was too far and one of their subjects had to make a short stop here. In brief theres gona be a large market for capitalists to thrive e.g hand sanitizer not forgetting the ultimate secret serum (vaccine). So i.m asking, who created this virus and is who is responsible for its spread?
You are certainly right. They keep messing with our brains. Which monkey or bats got infected? The ebola virus strain is also similar to the HIV strain. I believe it was genetically modified by pharmaceutical giants and they are waiting for the reap off. Another reason they are yet to get vaccines.

Though we are yet to hear from Governor Chime, this letter reveals nothing but a humble man treading on his own path. He has been going through a lot and yet kept quiet. His reasons are enough to create a public scandal and make newspaper headlines. I do not know what caused their rift, but Chime should give the man a break and stop listening to gossip from aides because I believe gossip resulted to this misunderstanding.

zicoraads: You didn't answer my question, did you watch Chelsea's match and subsequent truimph in the UCL? Was Mikel's impact minimal? And did RDM not say something aabout Mikel being the 'unsung hero' in the team? You shouldn't say anything about football if u don't havve any meaningful contribution.

I don't care what ur comments are meant to do, neither is Mikel one of my favorite players, but the fact is most of u tallking are just kids hu started watching football yesterday. When France went to the 2002 world cup with the likes of Henry, Trezeguet, Vieira, Wiltord, Desaily, Petit and co, who thought they were gonna have such a bad tournament? With those array of stars.

Most of you kids here were singing his name to the high heavens when Nigeria won the last AFCON. Or even in the Confederations cup when his performance wasn't soo bad. Suddenly, y'all want to crucify him based on one tournament where he underperfomed. Fickle minds!!!
Point of correction. I am not a kid. Please go through my timelines. That should explain a bit of myself to you. I have nothing more to say.
Sports › Re: Mourinho Desperate To Sell Either Torres Or John Obi Mikel Or Petr Cech by Boss13: 5:14pm On Jul 30, 2014
zicoraads: Mikel's impact was minimal and surreal with medio what? I wouldn't want to conclude u jus started watching football in the just concluded FIFA world cup. When Chelsea lifted the UCL, was his impact also minimal? Y'all should cut the guy some slack abeg, even the best players in the world don't always have a good tournament. Nigerians are just so fickle and petty. And to think u even believe Mikel has no suitors has just erased any doubt I initially had about you.
You sound like a 12 year old running hard to impress mummy. I comment not to impress but to express my own opinions. Mikel benefited more from Chelsea, than the otherwise. His back-passes were signature trade marks and can easily be predicted. He adds little to the game and in most cases brought in to tire out opponents. True Chelsea fans know. I am not particular about whether he could have been a Man Utd player but I do know he would have been utilised as a CAM (Central Attacking Midfielder) which would have been a plus for both him and the super eagles. Mikel was expected to be our playmaker in Brazil 2014 and he was certainly our playmaker given the outcome of our performance.
Sports › Re: Mourinho Desperate To Sell Either Torres Or John Obi Mikel Or Petr Cech by Boss13: 4:55pm On Jul 30, 2014
shadrach77: Aren't you silly? Mikel has spent 8 years in Chelsea. It's obvious he has to go at some point. Nothing lasts forever. But saying if he had gone to Man U he would have done better sounds phoolish. What happened to Eric Djemba Djemba? How many players of African descent lasted 2 seasons in Man U not to talk of 8? Let's not make it look as if Mikel leaving Chelsea is a big deal. Chelsea is not that big, moreso he has spent almost a decade there and has won everything winnable with them. Nothing lasts forever. Please cut him some slack! angry angry angry angry angry
When people fail to read, they fail to understand. I do not mean Mikel must stay in Chelsea forever. He is not the owner of the club. Mikel made little contribution to Chelsea FC. His impact was minimal and surreal with mediocrity. There are certain clubs you play for and you are lauded continuously by lovers of football even when you are not a striker. Man Utd got tired of Vidic and it was a no-brainer for Inter Milan. Evra (Juventus). Rio Ferdinand (QPR). Funny enough Scholes just signed a 4 year deal with BT Sports. These are tired and expired legs - Old players. Mikel, except he changed his age, is still a young player and should be at his prime because he is considered to be experienced. However, when clubs are not even considering your situation then there is a problem. Truth be told, Chelsea FC damaged Mikel football and now the same coach considers him to be irrelevant.

In another news, Ihenacho scored again for Man City. He would have made the same mistake like Mikel - beckoning to the wishes of football agents so that they can make money/gains for their personal self.
Sports › Re: Mourinho Desperate To Sell Either Torres Or John Obi Mikel Or Petr Cech by Boss13: 2:08pm On Jul 30, 2014
I remember the transfer controversy with Mikel after he agreed with Man Utd and quickly signed for Chelsea. Well, the love for money. It is so bad when clubs are not beckoning on you to ply your trade with them and also your club considers you irrelevant to them. Making it even worst, your presence now gives your manager headache. Mikel's case is now so bad that he is not even considered for B' team.

Chelsea might end up loaning him off to a club in order to avoid sanctions and that club will continue benching Mikel because they do not really need him - they were only trying to do Chelsea FC a favour.

Mikel, if you had looked into the future and saw this coming you would probably sign for Man Utd, play better and still be regarded highly. Greed, they say is a sweet poison.

He cannot reform the police. For the police to be totalling reformed, the IGP and his deputies must be foreigners (people who have not within the police hierarchy) or the Police must report directly to the Police Council. This council must be made up of innovative and pragmatic people else we would still get the same result from our police.

Kinkybraids: Im really interested in reading this article...please share the link. Also with regards of being brainwashed; Westernization will soon take over many African countries whether we like it or not. International markets are emerging. The western world gaining control by enforcing policies mainly through dangling Aid and Business prospects in Africa. So All African countries have a decision to make to either preserve the countries Identity or perish in poverty...its sad but it true. Nigeria made its decision and so Did South Africa...and we are both leaving with the consequences. I dont mind westernization as long as when I go home I can still here my children (In future) speakong our language and doing things common in our culture, that's is the parents responsibility to not let the culture die not the government's. Key principle highlighted by Charles Darwin ( lol dont remember much from History) but you either adapt or perish...We are adapting undecided
You write and sound intelligent. Very typical and an educated person. I don't mean having an education but educating yourself with other contemporary issues. You are certainly right about westernization but it will be sad if we lose our heritage because we strive for more money/wealth. Africans need Nigeria because in Nigeria lies the soul, culture, belief, aspirations, traditions of every black person on the planet. A destroyed Nigerian is a destroyed black race. So I think we may not allow westernization define us as a people but re-define westernization that is why the term "The Nigerian Hustle" is coined.

Skywalker5: Thats what i was expecting too. To find out how much they cost since the mods kept it on front-page that the price and pix are included
I did not click on the link to look at pictures. We have all seen the pictures. They are even readily available online. If Innoson is not serious about his business. Then I will wait for Nissan who will start mass production soon or rather Toyota who has agreed to build an assembly plant in Nigeria. I have even done an estimation of Toyota made in Nigeria cars and that should cost roughly N3,000,000 - N5,000,000.

I think Innoson still pride himself that he is the first Nigerian to build a car and forgets that he owns a business that should survive. He likes that title conferred on him by his local chiefs. In 5 years, he would be so surprise that he won't be able to sell 20 units of his vehicles because of the new auto vehicle policy. I am saying this because I have studied him and have been wondering why is he so slow to cease the African market before the likes of Nissan, Kia and Toyota come in and take over market share.

Put the prices side by side. Little wonder your vehicles are not selling because of poor marketing/sales skills. Price is a powerful marketing tool, if they are affordable, let your customers know. The cost/price of a product assist a potential customer make up his mind, it is a rational tool for decision making and not the specification or quality of the product especially when the product is in a perfect competitive market.
