A member of the Labour Party representing Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency in 2012 defected to another party. This case lingered until the Supreme Court in 2022 ordered him to immediately vacate the seat following his defection from the party. The Court’s unanimous judgement held that the lawmaker who decamped from the Labour Party to another party was constitutionally unfit to retain his seat as a federal lawmaker in the federal House of Representatives.

A High Court Sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on a few days ago confirmed Edison Ehie as the authentic and recognized Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly. Justice M.W. Danagogo, who gave the ruling, ordered Martins Amaewhule and Dumle Maol to stop parading themselves as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

What will happen to the commissioners who of their own volition resigned?
So the 5 men who are recognized should suddenly give up their positions just like that?
INEC should simply tear the notice of vacant seats from the house or ignore it?
The budget has been signed. How can it be presented again?
The commissioners who resigned should just get back to their offices without screening again?

Please these are the issues. Is it not that this so called directive is set to further cause problems in the state? Is it so simple as that to withdraw the cases from court?
What if PDP at the national level insist that the 27 are no longer with them?

Maybe we should keep watching events as they unfold.

Whichever way the group of 27 go, they have failed already. They on their own declared themselves non grata in the state assembly when they decamped. How our lawmakers break the same laws is unbelievable.

Even as they sit, who will pay their salaries? The bill recently passed by the group of 27, who will pay them or finance their running costs? Oh maybe Wike will pay?

They remembered that other people eye their seats. They found that Ehie had not sent the letter to INEC. They quickly retraced their steps and declared their support. If they want to decamp, they can do so at the next elections. They were not kicked out. Their names were not included in the list to INEC.
